About to meet @Ruth Warren

Back to witches and wizards, and magical beasts! To goblins and ghosts, and to magical feasts! It's all that I love, and it's all that I need. Hogwarts, Hogwarts! I think I'm going back—
-----------------------------------------------------

Yes, it was that time of year again. In the year prior, he had taken in the Hogwarts Express the day before and then had his first day of classes in his real actual (and yet still seemed unbelievable) wizarding school - of magic! It seemed too good to be true, like some odd dream he was having but one he never wanted to wake up from.

Now here he was, one year later - Simon Kincaid, Second-Year Hufflepuff. Now he knew a bit what to expect and he was still as excited, all the same.

He had his classes as he got to reconnect with some friends that didn't go to the school's Summer Camp. He would see the Rehearsal Room later on, when his desire for playing the piano would come to him and he would explore for more secret passageways in the Castle at another time. Right now, with classes through, his area of the dorm all settled in, and supper over, there was one destination he had in mind. The Library.

The Library was a truly magical place within a magical place. Granted, Simon was already a lover of books before attending Hogwarts but the zie of the Library alone was majestic. It contained tens of thousands of books on thousands of shelves. The students could go to peruse or borrow books to supplement their studies or just use for personal enjoyment. He himself liked to try and learn everything he could about the wizarding world, and one could only take in so much information. That part was a shame, really.

So he didn't stay for all of supper, and he headed through the corridors towards the school library.

Be kind to one another. (*iNPC is Miles Thatcher)

The corridors of any new school are scary for any first-year student -- full of potential bullies, judgemental and hormonal teens, or simply because they are unknown. The corridors of a school full of witches and wizards and magical beats, when you have been raised by science and electronics, I beg your pardon, are blood-curdling. If you are a muggle born first-year you might as well hide under your duvet and hope to soon wake up from all this nonsense, thank you very much.

While little herds of students walk past chatting undisturbed by the whispers of talking (talking!) portraits and the casual stroll of a ghost (a real, transparent, and even sassy ghost!), a child tries to hide behind the corner of a wall. From where he is coming, Simon has a direct and unobstructed vision of that back of this little girl as she is pressed against the stone wall just before it turns right: under the hem of her Hogwarts long robes, little, black lace-up shoes reveal the tidiest of heels, as the little miss who is wearing them lift herself up on her toes, in that typical and child-like attempt to spy on something one is too small to properly see. The entrance of the library just around that terrifying corner, one might easily deduct.

From Simon’s point of view, her messy ponytail suddenly opens up, just as a red and yellow ribbon that had been holding it together fatally falls down behind her back, flying lightly towards Simon.

As Ruth starts feeling the delicate strokes of her now loose hair on her white cheeks, her tiny shoulders appear to tense. Quickly, she turns arounds in a twirl of her Gryffindor robes – ones that, on her small frame, appears yet again too big for her size.
Silvery eyes on the child’s face look frantically around the floor, looking for the ribbon, revealing that mental blindness one always falls victim of when you are scared.

And, oh is she scared.

Startling @Ruth Warren

He was headed to the Library, his bag on his shoulder so he could collect a couple books for some night reading, when he first noticed her. The girl was acting in a particular manner like she was spying on someone, or perhaps avoiding them. Her movements were slow and calculated. His first thought was to ask her if she needed any help, as some first years tended to need (as had he when he first arrived) but if she was trying to be unnoticed, he would only draw attention to her.

Better to let her be.

That was, until her hair tie fell onto the floor. Not even trying, but with his quicker-than-human reflexes, he came behind her and picked up both the yellow and the red ribbon from the floor, and just as the girl was turning around, the two nearly collided into one another. "Sorry, so sorry!" he said softly for startling her.

"Your hair ribbons..." he began as he held them out to her, "they fell. I saved them from meeting an untimely demise," and he smiled some. Surely they would have been just fine on the stone floor of the corridors. The only fate they might have met was some trampling here and there. Still, better to keep them in the best condition. It was the start of the school year, after all.
