Hello Darkness, My New Friend
July 5th, 2015
Godric Hollow, England
Henry
Annabeth
Arthur
Luke
It was a quiet summer day in Godric Hollow. The wind blew through the town as children ran in all directions, laughing the day away. Looking for something to do to pass the time. Looking for some chaos to cause...
Along the row of homes, a fairly one large house sat at the end. A garden that was now fall from over grown was growing our front, the grass papered loose it hadn't been cut for a while. Leaves were scattered across the porch and grounds from the large overhanging tree that grows besides the house.
The Knight - Alluring residence has seen better days. It was once a beautiful, joyful sight with a small family of five laughing, playing together on the grounds. The garden flourished with large beautiful flowers often cut and given to friends and neighbors. The kids invented games to take up the leaves that usually ended with climbing the large tree. It was a beautiful sight.
But now... Now the garden is overgrown wor weeds, leaves collected into piles on the grounds, no one was seen on the porch laughing or running around playing.
It was quiet. To quiet.
The eldest; Arthur Knight at thirteen just return from school at Hogwarts. He just completed his third year but the house that he left, was now different. The atmosphere was different now and some would think that it will never be the same again. Not since the attack that one faithful night during the end of the Christmas holiday only a few months ago.
June 2nd. Luke packed a bag and left his three kids for a few days. Ministry business he always said but never went into details when his children would ask questions, as this continued the less questions there would be. The more regular it would become. After the attack. After the death of their mother, with their father constantly leaving. Occasionally it felt like they lost both parents instead of only one.
Arthur was sitting underneath the tree by his house. Reading a book on transfiguration in preparation for his fourth year at Hogwarts. The only thing he can do. Read and study. The last few months still haunting the boy like much of his family. However when his father stepped down, he would step up. Setting aside his own emotions for his younger siblings, steeping up to care and help his young brother and sister.
Annabeth was far from her twin. It seemed that night changed the relationship between the two. The girl would hardly spend time with her twin now, choosing to be else. Talk with others. Have sleepovers with members of the troop. All to avoid her twin it seems. Today, Annabeth was hanging out with Scarlett Aden and the rest of the Troop in godric hollow. The troop known for mischief is a group of children in godric hollow, naturally Annabeth was part of the group and now spent most of her time with them. Like she was doing that day.
Henry Knight. Annabeth's twin. Arthur's younger brother. Luke's son. The one who had a physical change from the attack that night a few months ago. A scar along his chest. Running just below his collar bone and right above his belly button. A reminder of that night. Of the attack. That comes with a monster living within him.
Each full moon being forced to transform into a werewolf. A monster. In the basement of his house. Hidden away from all. Ignored by the world both wizarding and muggle. Listening to prejudices on werewolves daily. Listening to words on his mother's death daily. No escape from others. From there words. There opinions.
Henry looked at himself in the mirror of his bathroom. Blue eyes on the scar. Long and wide. A reminder of what he wanted to forget.
The seven year old tentatively and carefully moved his hand toward his chest. Fingers tingling as they reached for the scar. Lightly touching it, with his skin. The feeling strange. His tan smooth skin now uneven from the scar. Running his fingers along the scar. Flinching a bit at the feeling. The night of the attacked flashed through his mind's eye.
The stars. The oak tree. The night. The glowing full moon above. The smiles. The laughing heard from them all. The two werewolves. The scream. The spells thrown at them. The blood. His mother. The werewolf. The claws. The scar.
Henry jerked his hand away in a instant, taking a small gulp as his shaky hands reached for his blue short sleeve shirt. Pulling it over his head. Eyes landing back on the mirror. Looking at himself. Titling his head to the side as he examined his messy hair, lighty tan skin, bright blue eyes, skinny appearance.
A thought occurred to him. He wasn't pretty. His appearance was awful. He was ugly.
Henry bit his bottom trembling lip for a moment then brushed his hair out of his face with his hands and decided to leave. To head outside.
The young boy left the bathroom, walking through his house. Eyes gazing in each room, each picture, each detail holds a memory. A memory of his mother who isn't there anymore, who he wouldn't be able to see again. To talk to again. To ask for help again. To create memories together again. She wasn't there. She was a memory now.
Henry took a breath and picked up the pace. Racing toward the door. Opening it, stepping outside and shutting the door behind him. Unable to handle the memories flashing through his mind. Unable to remember his mother without feeling certain strong emotions. Unable to remember without thinking of that night. Unable to unable without blaming himself for her death. For the attack. For the night.
Henry walked down the steps, taking a few steps onto the overgrown grass. Blue eyes gazing around the front yard.
His elder brother sitting underneath a tree, reading a transfiguration book. A few butterflies flew over the overgrown garden, mainly full of weeds now. Henry walked closed to it, dropping his hand closest and running his fingers along the longer stems. Remembering where it once bloomed with larger, brightly colored flowers. Remembering how it once was one of the most beautiful and organized gardens in the street. Remembering how friends and neighbor's were given flowers from the garden. Remembering watching his mother care, water, and nurture the plants and flowers in the garden. Watching with his twin, making little jokes and smiling occasionally getting sprayed with water from their mother.
Henry smiled a little before feeling his stomach flip and turn. The boy wrapped his arms around his stomach and turned, walking along the road that is next to the row of houses.
Henry walked alone, holding his arms across his chest keeping his eyes ahead. Walking slow not to any specific place.
Henry continued his walk until three kids around his age came running out, stopping in front of him forcing Henry to come to a halt.
Henry looked up and recognizes them, they were from magical families as well.
Layla and Connor. Twins. Seven years old and from a pureblood family like Henry and Annabeth. Except Connor was athletic and enjoyed insulting kids his age, Layla usually followed and went along with her brother.
Flynn a eight year old from a halfblood family and best friends with Connor. The boy enjoyed reading and often was the brains behind Connor.
The three were bullies to Henry Knight. The last thing he needed now.
"C..Can you g..g..guys p..please leave m..me alone t..today," Henry spoke holding his stomach as his eyes moved to the ground feeling fear and also something else creeping within him. Possibly around or above him actually.
"C..C..C..Can you g..guys leave m..me alone," Connor laughed along with Layla and Fynn in front of a frighten little boy who hasn't grown into his more sarcastic and emotionless slytherin that he would be come at hogwarts in a few years.
Connor crossed his arms with a smirk as he spoke" so what were you planning to do today, Knight? Uh strange surname right guys," Connor smirked at his two friends as Henry slightly opened his mouth to ask them to stop but couldn't get the words out as his bottom lip trembled and his arms gripped his stomach. Turning within him.
His shining blue eyes glisten with fear and aim downwards as Flynn looked at him and spoke" A Knight someone who is courageous and brave, that doesn't sound much like him," laughter from the three filled his ears and he looked down at his scuffed up trainers. Feeling his cheeks glow red and blue eyes glisten with tears threatening to fall.
Connor seemed to spot this and laugh" look Kighty is going to cry, it seems he needs a actual Knight now," laughter rang throughout. No one around to tell the kids to leave. No one there to chase them off the street. Henry was stuck, stuck with his emotions spilling out to three kids who enjoyed making fun of him.
"Are you crying, mate," Fylnn laughed not meaning that in a friendly way. In godric hollow nearly everyone said 'mate' that didn't exactly mean the person being referred was a friend or anything. Henry clutched his stomach tighter, eyes downward glistening with tears as Connor laughed" he is crying! Your such a baby- no your a crybaby Henry," laughter filled his ears as the first tears fell onto his cheeks. Hot tears strung his red cheeks as he griped his stomach turned and flipped as a different, much new emotional and feeling surrounded him.
"Do you need your mommy? Shame she's gone," Layla voice cried out in between laughs with her brother and friend each word making Henry tremble. Tears ran down his cheeks. Blinking only made them run faster. As the words started to circle around his mind.
"No mommy to protect you now, Knighty. All alone," Connor laughed cussing flashes of memories to play in Henry's minds eyes as the words of the three soiled around his mind. Layla kneeled down a bit as he spoke"didn't mommy ever teach you to have eye contact when talking to others or was she not able to get to that lesson yet?" Laughter. Henry felt his breathing quicken, he started taking gasps of air unsure what was happening with him as his body trembled like his bottom lip. Tears ran down.
"Do you need to hide behind your brother and Scarlett," Flynn laughed with the others as Henry trembled with his emotions. His breathing quicken, taking gasps unsure what's happening as his hands moved to his head. Holding his head with his hands as tears ran down his reddish cheek. His heart beaten a little faster than normal. His head started hurt from all the laughing and words. His body trembled with every passing second. His bottom lip quibbling. His mind hurting and as the words and laughter continued another voice broke out. It was different and sounded familiar yet he never heard it before. It was within his mind. This was the first time he would hear the voice within his head speak.
"Little Knighty with no one to cry on."
'You are all alone, no ones with you'
"All brains and no words."
'Just a nerd with your nose buried in books'
"You can't do anything right, you can't do anything at all."
'A Failure. Your a failure and will always be a failure'
"your alone because no one wants to be around you!"
'You are and will always be a outsider.'
"At Hogwarts, I bet he won't be sorted at all. Who would want him in their house."
'A failure who will remain a outsider'
"I bet he doesn't even have magic, he's probably a squib."
'You'll never be enough'
"Even if he does make it Hogwarts, they'll probably just send him home the first day."
'You'll never be good enough for your family and friends'
"They'll be too embarrassed of him and send him home, Connor."
'You'll only disappoint everyone around you'
"Oh won't be embarrassed of him? He's weird, that's why he has no friends."
'Always looking in from the outside'
"Someone as weird and nerdy as you, will never have friends."
'You'll always be watching from the outside'
"A weirdo with no mommy."
'You'll always be a failure and disappointment'
"A weirdo whose only mates are books."
'Always will be a monster'
Laughter from the three. Their words muffled as his mind raced, tears fell from his crystal blue eyes. His breathing quicken, taking big breaths and his mind hurt. He felt strange, he never had these feelings before. What was happening?
The bot fell back a bit. Eyes spiraling around as thoughts spiraled his end making him become dizzy. Taking breaths. There laughter. His head. His chest tighten, larger breaths. The world felt like it was moving, spiraling around him. As he took a few more steps backwards.
Laughter. Dizziness. Tears. Head hurting. Breathing larger and quicken. Chest tighten. Images flew past him. Voices continued.
A beat
Then suddenly Henry fell backwards to the amusement of the three kids and the seven year old felt himself breathing hard. He turned on his heels and ran back to his house. Running and not looking back as he ran. Tears dropped down from his cheeks and flew to the ground creating small splashes.
Running. Past the row of houses. The crumbles of the asphalt below his trainers. Running. Running and not looking back as the boy ran back to his house.
The house stood quiet. Empty. No longer filled of laughter and light that it once was full of. It now stood empty, a reminder of what once was. Of what was lost.
The over grown garden filled of weeds tangled around the flowers and fruit brushes, once was a clean and beautiful sight. Now was something that others passed over, that ones eyes couldn't look at. Now only empty statement of 'I'll get to it later' was used to describe about the garden. The garden was a reminder of what once was. If what was lost.
Henry avoided looking at it, he couldn't bear to look at the garden. The area that his mum use to tend and care with pride. Wish happiness.
Henry ran past, tears falling.
Racing past Arthur sitting at underneath the tree, still reading who would look up and spoke his younger brother racing past.
Henry wouldn't stop racing past his house toward the past, running into the forest. Running through leaves and wood chips, jumping over branches and fallen trees as he ran the short distance to the fort.
The fort is a treehouse type of structure. The base was already built when Henry found it walking through the woods last year.
His father helped build the walls and reinforce the base so didn't collapse during bad weather or with the passing years.
His mum decorated the inside, finding furniture and small items to fill the space of the fort. To fill it with things that reminder them of home but also filled with items to give it a hideaway feel since his mum use to say that the fort was a hideaway or akin to one.
His Mum also built the bridge, it was her idea to give the fort a creative entryway to help creatively grow and flourish with the fort.
Then Arthur, Henry, and Annabeth filled the fort with small items and their own touch. Carving names on the tree trunk, piling books in the shelves, setting up quidditch posters on the walls. The three found all sought of things to add to the fort, to their hideaway. It was once a place to escape to. To leave reality for a few moments and escape to their own place. Where they laughed and crated new memories and had fun. It was a incredible place.
Now it was where Henry went when he wanted to hide. When he wanted to be alone. When he wanted to get away from his current situation and hold his knees and think of past times, of happier times.
Henry ran through the woods, stepping on leaves coaching them to crush under his feet and nearly tripping over fall trees and branches with tears falling down his face.
Henry ran through, reaching the bridge. The bridge his mum built. Now sat uneven in the air as it blew, slightly moving the bridge from side to side. The rope handles moist with rain water from the past nights and the wood soaked with water from the rainy nights and leaves from the fallen trees that no one clean off for a while.
Henry felt his body tremble and tears run as he stepped onto the swinging bridge then he ran across it.
His blue eyes on the fort only a foot ahead, memories washed over him. To much to bear as the young boy felt his boy tremble. Head throbbed and tears ran down his cheeks.
The seven year old couldn't step into the fort. He couldn't bring himself to enter the place. To relive past memories, to see items from another time. A happier time.
Henry moved toward the front of the fort, sliding down and sitting underneath the window of the fort. Back against the moist wood, liquid steeping into his shirt as he brought his knees up and hugged them. Burying his face into his knees.
Tears ran down his cheeks. The back of his neck started to burn from the warmth except it was a rainy day with the sun hidden behind the clouds. His lip trembled as he leaned it close to his knee, touching the tip of it to his pant leg as he blinked tears old ran faster. Tasting it has drops fell past his lips, onto his tongue. The salty taste of fear and emotion strung his lips.
His body shook. His shoulders trembled in place and his arms hugged tightly to his knees, it was hard to do so since his arms were getting tried. Numb. It was hard to hold of there as they shook, preparing to collapse to the ground. His legs felt uncomfortably numb, like he didn't have a muscles or surgery in them. They wanted to collapse but didn't. It felt strange and painful for the boy. His chest tighten, causing him to panic and breath rapid not sure what is happening with him. Not sure why his breathing is faster. Not sure if he would be alright. Not sure what was going on.
It felt like a lifetime as past
The bot cold have been up there, sitting against the exterior of the fort for weeks, days, hours even but actually it has been only a mere minutes. Minutes since looked at himself in the mirror, doubting his appearance and looks. Eyes focused on the scar that cut across his chest, that served has a reminder of a certain night that the boy only wanted to forget.
Minutes since he walk past his elder brother reading and the over grown garden, the garden that once was his mum's pride and joy. Not sat overgrown and abandoned. A reminder of what was. A forgotten memory.
Mintues since he found his walk come to a abruptly halt by Connor, Layla, and Flynn. Where the three told him words that belittled him and reminder him of a night that he believed to be his fault.
Mintues since one moment that changed everything for young Henry Knight.
Minutes since the words and laughter of childhood bullies awaken something deeper in young Henry Knight. Something that would surround him over years to come, that would affect everyone moment in his passing days not only the stressed or bad ones but every.
Minutes since the words and taunts the three children were saying to him affected him more than usual. They cut deeper then the scar that laid across his chest. They awaken a new feeling, a new sensation that couldn't be ignored or forgotten.
A new sensation within Henry. A new feeling. Something new awaken within the young boy and it is anything but good.
The words from the three children bullying and belittling Henry moments ago have opened up something that would torture Henry from the inside out for the coming years. Would doubt his every thought that passed through his mind and every action he took. Would add pressure and stress to every moment no matter how small or big it would be to his life. Would cause him to crate a barrier and hideaway his emotions from the public, never showing another soul them. Never to bringing them his barrier again. So he could never be laughed at again.
A few minutes ago and in that moment even through it wasn't professionally diagnosed but it was the moment that Henry Knight would experience his first panic attack and uncover that he has anxiety.
That moment unlocked his anxiety that laid dormant until moments ago when it woken up. Waken by the words of the three children bullies, by the recent events circling his mind, by the feelings he held about the scar that ran along his chest, by the recent emotions he had about losing his mum and the changes his family was going through because of it.
His anxiety had waken up and was now hovering over his head, pouring down onto him like a dark rain cloud.
Along with the anxiety breaking free and crawling to the surface, cane a small voice. A familiar voice that didn't belong to anyone he knew. A voice that played in his mind thought his life, reminding him of his past failures and of what he could have done better. Of words that the young boy would have preferred not to imagine and would consider being true circle around and play in his head. Being told to him almost like someone else was telling him them.
Henry hugged his years, tears ran down his cheeks as anxiety hung over his head almost like to a rain cloud threatening to pour down.
Anxiety. A strange concept. One that Henry would learn to live with and deal with in the coming years. Something that young Henry Knight would go through life and slowly learn to live with it and hide it when around others so they won't find out. So they won't know. So they won't know what type of freak he is.
The anxiety mixed with the inner wolf clawing at the surface, trying to get out. To reach freedom. To escape and take control for a while. The two mixed was cussing Henry to tremble more, he felt numb but also trembled as tears ran down his eyes.
Henry hugged his knees tighter, head buried in numb, shakey knees as years ran down his face.
Thoughts circled his mind. That familiar voice was back inside his head, telling him words he would have rather not heard or listened to but was starting to believe.
'Your a failure'
Knees being hugged tighter as they felt shaky and numb
'You'll always be alone'
Tears dropped from his blue eyes and ran down his cheeks
'You never have any friend or anyone'
Chest tighten as his breathing quicken and the young boy started to breath through his mouth, taking small breaths worried what was happening
'You'll always be a outsider'
Neck started burned from the warmth of emotions and anxiety reflecting back on it
'A failure who can't do anything right'
Knees to chest as the young boy hurried his head further into his knees
'You'll only disappointment'
Blue eyes shining with tears and emotion
'Your a disappointment'
Body feels shakey and numb, like he could fall but couldn't it bring himself to
'You will always be alone'
Head begun to throb from the thoughts and voice spiraling around his mind constantly refusing to halt for a moment break
'Your a failure'
A shaky glup as the young boy hugged his knees feeling his body shake and head throb, wanting it to stop. Wanting the feeling and pain to stop. Just for a moment.
'Your A Monster. Always'
With the three words Henry felt himself lose more tears then he thought was possible. He felt his body shake and legs become numb, he felt a lump in his throat that wouldn't budge no matter how much he swallowed. He felt his head throb from the spiraling of thoughts within his mind. He felt his chest tighten which only would cause him to quicken his breathing from worry and fear that something else would happen. His blue eyes glistening with emotions and anxiety and fear as tears ran down his tears crying.
That day. That day no one knew how much the young boy cried. No one know that the young bot was crying out around all of his tears which is why he wouldn't cry for the years ahead. That day. That day filled up anxiety and panicked and emotions was the reason why he will build a barrier to hide his emotions behind in the coming year. That day is why he won't show anyone his emotions again in the coming years. That day is why he would find it hard to open up to another. Because he would be afraid. Afraid that another would laugh at him or belittle him or make fun of him. An experience that Henry Knight didn't went to go through again.
Henry hugged his knees. Tears streaming down his blue eyes that shone with emotions and fears. His chest rose up and down rather quickly as his breathing speed increased with each passing second. His head throbbing from the thoughts and words that spiraled around his mind. Small and short hiccups started to form which only made the young boy more uncomfortable.
Henry thought he was alone. He thought no one would come for him or notice he was gone. He thought that he was completely and utterly alone.
That his thoughts were correct. That the voice was correct.
Only they weren't
He wasn't alone
Someone saw him and walked out into the woods. Crossed the bridge. And took a seat besides him on the exterior of the fort.
Arthur Knight. His elder brother was there and considered for him. Proving the point he wasn't alone and would have be, all one truly needed was there brother in life. Right?
"Are you alright?"
Arthur's voice rang in Henry's ears. A simple question. Are you okay? Was he? Henry wasn't sure but he couldn't bring himself to answer. He couldn't bring himself to speak. To say any words. The young boy was afraid that if he did then he would only produce more tears and is mouth would tremble uncontrollably open. It was better to say nothing and leave his head resting, buried in his knees then try to say something.
"Your alright."
Arthur's voice rang then the older boy wrapped his arms around Henry and held him close, hugging him tightly and holding him a bit where they sat.
"Your alright."
Henry felt tears run down his cheeks. Henry leaned his head aginest his brothers chest but continuing to hold his knees. Tears ran and thoughts spiraled, the voice still present and loud.
"Your alright."
Arthur started to rock back and fourth a but while holding Henry, holding him tight while Henry felt his breathing slow and trembling come to a halt. His head continued to throb and tears ran, how many tears could one boy even cry?
"Just breath. Breath, in and out."
Henry took a deep breath then followed his elder brother's words and started to take breaths.
In and out
In and out
In and out
In and out
Henry felt himself started to calm down, his breathing slowed and chest loosen with each passing breath. His Hess didn't hurt as much from the spiraling thoughts and his trebelming stopped. His tears stopped flowing and Henry rose a shakey hand and wipes his eyes before letting his knees go and leaning against his elder brother who hugged him.

Henry nodded slightly to his elder brother, it was small as he leaned against him. It was comfortable and a feeling of normal. Normal. It has been a while since something has felt normal.
"But you'll be alright, you can get through them and anxiety. Your brave Henry, you can handle this."
Henry heard his words. Bravery. Henry didn't believe that, not at that moment. Not after what he just went though. What he just experienced. That felt awful and the young boy didn't know how he would be able to handle it if it happened again and he wasn't with his brother who was hugging him close.
"No matter what your thoughts are telling you, don't listen to them. Their wrong and you can handle this. I know you, little brother."
Henry slightly close his eyes, feeling his brother hug him as he leaned on his elder brother rising breaths. He could have fell asleep there. On the exterior of the fort. After all he didn't think he had the strength to get up and leave.
"We can stay here for a bit, just breath. Breath."
Henry leaned into his older brother as he hugged him, blue eyes softly blink as they slightly closed. Head throbbed from the thoughts that spiraled as round his mind and he felt numb. Completely numb.
Henry took a breath. He wasn't ready to leave or stand but he could feel word inching up his throat as his mouthed opened a little and he softly would speak.
"P...Promise me you'll always b..be with me, t..that we'll always have each other Arthur."
Henry felt like his world was changing and he already lost enough people in his life, he didn't want to- he couldn't imagine losing anymore. Especially not his older brother.
"I promise, Henry. I'll always be by your side, we'll always have each other."
