Mysterious Maze Group 1
Late Evening - Aug 10th
After the students had so graciously helped destroy part of the school grounds before leaving for summer vacation, Eliseo had set to work preparing a bit of a surprise for those students who would return over the summer. Taking up a large piece of the grounds, there was now a looming hedge maze just begging for the passing and curious student to wander into its depths.
The maze would be open in the early evening for students to try their hand at navigating their way through the labyrinth. The somewhat strange Groundskeeper was quite curious to see how quickly the students could meander their way to freedom but made sure to work a few surprises in the dark depths of the maze.
The lowering sunlight allowed the heat of the day to relent and the excessive height of the hedges further cooled the air within the labyrinth. It had been quite challenging to erect the massive structure but Eliseo believed its winding corridors would allow the students to truly find themselves...or become inexplicably lost and terrified.
While the interior of the maze was still shrouded in mystery, the entrance offered its welcome. In the wall of dark green hedges were three large openings. Three different entrances into the maze would offer slightly different journeys for the travelers. But once inside, there was no telling what twists and turns would be waiting. An unnatural fog sat around the maze further obscuring the depth in which the students would be able to peer once inside.
Each maw of the maze was ready to claim its victims, but Eliseo had faith in the students to find their way. In his final walk through the maze, he had dropped a particularly scrumptious-looking cupcake and was rather disappointed that it was now lost in the maze. But perhaps some noble student would locate it and be able to rescue it before it was lost forever. Or perhaps there would be students lost in the maze forever...Probably not as that would reflect poorly on the future of Eliseo’s employment but he assumed that some students may find themselves more interested in the deadends.
But now, divided into small groups. It was up to the students to decide what they would do. Would they stick together? Would they scurry off on their own? Only time would tell. Their firs choice was simple. They needed to choose which of the three entrances they would be venturing into. The Northern and Southern entrances both seemed to weave to the left while the center entrance quickly turned to the right. Any of the entrances could get them through but each held different bits of absurdity within the ominous fog.
Navigation Options
All participants can choose to enter one of these entrances:
1. The Northern Entrance - It has a strange smell of watermelon lingering in the air...
2. The Middle Entrance - There is a note pressed against the side of the entrance reading 'Are you sure?'
3. The Southern Entrance- On the ground just in front sits an empty bucket.
How to Navigate the Maze
1. Each round you can choose an available direction to travel or to take a different action.
2. Each moderation will list the available directions for each student.
3. You can choose to stay as a group or wander off on your own. But if you are alone...beware of the orange.
4. Depending on the paths chosen, you may encounter challenges or changes within the maze.
5. Stats will be used in this tread and thus you will need to ensure they are in your trunk.
6. There will be a moderation post at least once a week. Quicker moderations will be done if all active participants have replied.
7. If a participant misses two weeks of moderation, it will be assumed they decided to take a nap and will be removed from the maze for their safety!
8. As always...clothing will be required in this thread!

Avery zipped up his jacket as a cold evening wind swept through the grounds, and hurried towards The Mysterious Maze from his cabin. Already, the young pre-teen was wondering whether he had made the right decision to sign up for this event. A fog was settling on the grounds, making the sinister shadows of bushes and trees especially haunting on the edges of the grounds.
He saw some tall, straight hedges in the distance, and rushed towards them, hoping he wasn't late -- at least, that's how he explained to himself as to why he was in a rush, certainly not because he was scared (well, never!). He pushed his messy black hair out of his dark brown eyes and hurried forwards to what he thought was the maze entrance meeting point for Group 1. Three gaping entrances opened their dark maws to the small East Asian boy, and he stopped a few feet from the middle entrance.
The place was eerily silent and it seemed that he was the first to arrive. He glanced at his wristwatch and noticed that he was a couple minutes early for Group 1's arranged start time. The dark entrances beckoned to him, and he peeked at each of them curiously while making sure to maintain his distance.
He noticed a faint smell of fruit from the first entrance, and his stomach grumbled. It was some time since he'd had dinner, and a bit of fruit would be tasty.... He shook his head to clear the thought. Not now, Avery! The second entrance seemed to have a note tacked to its side. He approached hesitantly and read the message: "Are you sure?" He caught his breath. No, now he wasn't sure. He peered at the third entrance and saw an item placed in front if it. he went over to investigate, and found it was an empty bucket. How strange... "Are we meant to throw up inside of this?" he wondered aloud, his mind immediately going towards the worst possible scenario. Perhaps this bucket was supposed to be useful in case they hurled along their journey. He shuddered -- not from the cold, mind you -- and stood back. Perhaps he should wait until others from his group arrived before diving into the maze.

With arms sat behind his head, Jack strutted up to the giant hedge maze with such bravado. Thankfully he wasn't intimidated by much of anything, so a bunch of grass stacked on itself wasn't gonna do it for him. The third-year was wearing a simple white button-up shirt with salmon-colored pants that little had tiny little white crabs etched into the fabric. The boy wore a staple to his look; a backward black baseball cap and a prefect badge stuck on his short's waistband. He could feel the excitement building in his chest, like a tiger ready to jump loose at any moment! Jack could imagine the trials that awaited him in between those perilous-looking walls of bush. Considering that he was usually the one to run towards danger, he would consider himself the leader of this party. If people didn't like it, Warren would just go off on his own. Jack knew he was skillful and competent. Plus, he figured that having scaredy cats clinging on to him would get annoying. As he passed by the entrances to reach their designated group meeting point, a specific entrance decided to give him a challenge! 'Are you sure?' it read. HOW DARE THE SIGN DOUBT HIS MANLINESS. He was fixed on which entry he was going to start through.
Pressing his lips together, the boy let out a jaunty little whistling tune as he approached was seemed to be the only other person from his group that had shown up thus far. Jack felt like he had a pretty good grasp on the student body as a whole, so seeing as the prefect hadn't seen this kid before, he had to be a first year. "Oi, mate. Why are you standing near the shite bucket?" Did Jack actually know what the bucket was used for? Absolutely not, but he figured it would be funny since he caught the puke bucket comment from the Newby. The boy sauntered over to stand next to the kid. "Jack Warren. Hufflepuff prefect. You're in my group, yeah?" The boy's lilting and lazy way of talking was a style choice made by the boy. He liked the idea of being laidback, plus it made him seem more mysterious in his own head. "So... We gonna go through the middle way, right? Because, it seems like a challenge." The boy lazily moved to the center entrance and stood there. He did, however, take the occasional moment to stop and glower at the sign. Nobody challenges Jack Warren.

A jaunty tune reached his ears amidst the rustling of a breeze among the hedges. He whipped around to see an older boy strutting nonchalantly towards the hedges, as if he had been prepared for this trial his entire life. The small pre-teen only wished he had such confidence tonight.
"Oi, mate. Why are you standing near the shite bucket?" the boy called out to him. Avery jumped a foot away from the bucket. Well, if the older boy said that it was, that's probably what it was. Who knew what bacteria-infested filth had claimed this bucket throughout its miserable life. No way he was going to found standing next to it as if he was planning on using it.
"Jack Warren. Hufflepuff prefect. You're in my group, yeah?" The older boy's lilting tone drifted through the dark night. So this boy was a prefect! No wonder he knew what he was doing. If there was anyone he'd rather have as a groupmate in this mysterious, undoubtedly dangerous maze, it was someone like him. "Avery Chen, incoming first year. Nice to meet you," he introduced himself, hopefully not sounding too unconfident about the fact that he didn't know any magic to defend himself in this maze. "Yes, sir, I'm in Group One," he said, wondering if it was a bit too formal or strange to call this older boy 'sir', but he really needed to be in his good graces in order to get through this maze whole.
"So... We gonna go through the middle way, right? Because, it seems like a challenge." Avery watched wide-eyed as Jack sauntered over to the middle entrance. "Are you sure?" he almost sputtered, petrified that the boy wanted to take the one that seemed most treacherous. He glanced behind his shoulder to see if anyone else was coming, but only heard a night owl. Well, he wasn't about to go into another entrance on his own. "Y-yeah," he began, then realized he was stuttering, "Let's go through the middle one, because, bring it on!" His voice ended in a little-boy squeak. So much for trying to sound brave! He moved towards the boy and the middle entrance.

As soon as she noticed the sun beginning to go down Akari briskly made her way over to the starting points of the maze. Her hair was neatly pulled back into a ponytail and she was dressed in a simple outfit which just entailed a navy blue zip-up sweatshirt and a pair of black leggings.
As she approached the entrances she noticed a couple of other lads gathering in front, but before getting the chance to say anything to them, her eyes immediately fell upon the "Are you sure?" sign plastered on the side of one of the entryways, distracting her. A frown then rapidly spread across her face. Initially, she had been excited for this activity and thought that a little adventure would be quite enjoyable but now being here and seeing that sign along with all the eerie fog that shrouded the place, she couldn't but wonder what in the world it meant and if she should be worried.
No no no, it was just trying to psych her out, wasn't it? It was only a silly sign, nothing to worry about, right? Well, that's what she told herself.
"What a dodgy poster" She nevertheless mumbled to herself with a small huff as she slowly turned back in the direction of the boys she had seen earlier.
Attempting to push away all skeptical thoughts for the time being Akari made her way over to where the other two stood and then spoke up. "Hey guys"
A small friendly smile formed as she continued.
"Uhm considering that we have no idea what will happen once we enter this maze, you two wouldn't mind having more company would you?" She asked them. She didn't know about them but she certainly was not keen on going in alone.
Only then realizing that she had just walked up to two guys whom she had never spoken to before meaning they probably had no clue who she was, so she then quickly added "Oh and I'm Akari by the way"

Starlee had been excited about another one of her misadventures. Exploring a fun maze that the school had set up (or at least she assumed had set up) sounded like quite the fun quest. She had been assigned into a group, none of which whom she knew. She certainly had hoped that Cash would have been with her, she felt like the pair made an unstoppable team, but alas, they had been selected somewhere else.
So, when the time came, Starlee would don some jeans, a light tank, and a flannel she would tie around her waist, just in case it got cold. This was still the Scottish Highlands after all. Her hair would be pulled back in a taught low ponytail, her bangs gracefully plopped on her forehead. She would watch three of their group make their way into the central entrance - the one marked 'Are you sure.' Oh of course it was a challenge, something that Starlee would have liked to proove herself in, but the annoying Hufflepuff Prefect - or so he claimed - had cockily made his way right to it. Not after insulting what appeared to be a first year. Starlee rolled her eyes. No way was she going to go with that a-hole.
She would turn to the rest of the group. "Well, I don't know about you guys, but I don't want to be around that... Jack Warren guy." She would emphasize his name. If you want someone who actually knows what their doing, then follow me - one of the Slytherin dueling champions right here." Typically Starlee didn't have quite so much bravado, but that Jack character had really pissed her off. She was gonna show him that her (potential) little group could make just as much progress. Even if no one joined her, she would at least prove she could go it alone.
She liked the smell of watermelon, plus it could mean food (and who wouldn't want food when you were about to traverse a treacherous maze) so she would make her way into the northern entrance, happily smiling at anyone who would want to join her, introducing herself as well.

Of all the events she knew were to be happening at the summer camp, Scarlet was most excited for this one. The sun was setting above the looming hedge maze, and as she got closer to the entrance, the safety she felt from it's warm amber glow began to waver. She had no idea how long she would be in the maze for so had opted for another one of her hoodies paired with her favourite trainers in case she was out late. She had kept her hair down for now, but brought with her a grey hair tie, kept on her wrist.
She was soon able to distinguish three different entrances to the maze, as well as a group of students hanging about in the clearing in front of them. A blonde girl she recognised as part of her houses dueling team had just approached the group before her, Scarlet found a place stood near the blonde girl just as she spoke up to the rest of the group.
"Well, I don't know about you guys, but I don't want to be around that... Jack Warren guy," Scarlet looked to the rest of the group, and then remembered where she recognised the name from, the prefect from her own cabin was stood by the middle entrance with two other students. "If you want someone who actually knows what their doing, then follow me - one of the Slytherin dueling champions right here," the girl continued, before approaching the northern entrance to the maze.
Scarlet wanted to check out each of the entrances before making her own decision, but she would be lying if said she wasn't swayed by the Slytherin. She walked up to the southern entrance, free of any other students, an empty bucket on the ground in front of it, 'was that something to bring with them' she wondered, but she wasn't keen on going by herself, wouldn't be as much fun at the very least. She walked past the small group of students with Jack Warren, pausing briefly to read the sign affixed to the side of the middle entrance, before approaching the blonde Slytherin at the third entrance.
"Hey! I'm Scarlet, wannabe Slytherin duelist," she said with a small laugh, referencing the girl's last comment. A sweet, fruity smell filled the air around this entrance, watermelon she thought. Smiling, the girl introduced herself as Starlee, "well, you've got yourself a partner," Scarlet said returning the smile, "not to mention it smells amazing around this entrance! Scarlet felt only excitement now, she wouldn't be going in the maze alone, and she felt they had chosen the best entrance too, 'bring it on,' she thought to herself.

Interacting: n/aAnastasia had heard about the maze that had been created for the children to navigate and find their way in, so Anastasia decided to enter it and see how it looked and how quickly she could escape it. Why not? She thought, shrugging as she walked through the grounds towards the mysterious maze. Though she was excited, the death of her Quiddich mates was still very fresh, and well, Anastasia didn't know exactly how she could have fun after what had happened. These days, she was forcing herself to do fun things, for her own good. Of course, she was enjoying them, but for some reason, she felt guilty for doing so.
As she saw the other students socializing and talking to themselves (most of them were talking in English), unlike usually, she did not try to understand the English speakers, so she had no idea what they were talking about. Instead, she looked at the entrance of the maze, took a deep breath. She was surprised that a smell of fresh watermelon flowed into her nostrils. Since it had piqued her interest, why did she not go for it? Putting her hands in her pockets, Anastasia walked into the maze, following the rough smell of fresh watermelon that was so appetizing right now.Action: Following the watermelon smell to the Northern Entrance.ReducioStats: stamina 8 evasion 9 strength 2 wisdom 10 arcane power 3 accuracy 8

The young Hufflepuff couldn't help but grin at the first year as he stopped in the front of the challenging sign. "I'm very sure! We can do it! I doubt anything too terrible will show up. Maybe some spiders, but that isn't anything too bad." Jack had the thought of maybe mentioning acromantulas, but the kid seemed to be nervous as is. But he was pleasantly surprised when Avery decided to step up, and for that, Jack gave him a thumbs up! That's when the second of their group decided to show face! From the looks of it, a second year? Maybe first? Jack had a hard time remembering faces and determining the age of people. "Like I was tellin' Avery, I doubt it's gonna be anything to horrifying. The professors like to make things seem scarier than they are, but more company is always welcomed!" He just grinned. There were many bad things at this chaos-ridden school, but he doubted that the things that looked purposefully spooky were nothing to be afraid of. "I'm Jack, this is Avery." The prefect stuck a thumb towards the first year next to him.
That's when the trouble started. A blonde girl walked up with immediate hostility. What the hell was That Jack Warren guy supposed to mean? The boy never failed to take action against taunting, and this was goading 101. Jack clenched his fist as he could feel anger building up in his chest. "Oi, what the hell is your problem, you snake?!" Jack couldn't help but sneer at the girl. DuElInG ChAmPiOn his ass. "If you got a problem with me, don' be a chicken and say it to mah face!" As he spoke, his typically light Irish accent came out into full force. "But I bet you won't. You seem like the all bark an' no bite type. I bet you are a backup on the dueling team. " He didn't honestly believe that, but hopefully, it would get her goat. He would turn towards the note that stated, "Are you sure," and stuff the letter into his pocket with a huff. Jack felt like he had the last word, but he would bring it if this girl wanted a fight. With that Jack would enter into the maze, unless otherwise stopped

Northern Entrance

The great scent of watermelon proved too good of a lure for some of the students who decided they would try their luck along the sweet path. Or perhaps it was Starlee’s rejection of Jack’s navigation skills that brought a few of the students into the northernmost entrance.
The path immediately bent to the left before taking a second sharp turn to the right down a somewhat long corridor where the hedges seemed to be closer together than the entrance. The narrow corridor would force the students into a single file line. The fog only grew thicker inside the maze but the scent of watermelon held strong.
Eventually, the narrow corridor would reach a fork. One path turned sharply to the left and the other path gently curved to the right. There wasn’t anything inherently different between the paths at first glance. But keen ears might hear a soft rumbling noise coming from the right path. It was faint but a careful student may catch it. Starlee had claimed that she was the one to follow, but would her choices prove correct? Or were the northern students condemned to a night of chasing after watermelon smells.

Well, it seemed that the note left at the central entrance was no deterrent for several of the students. Instead of taking the note as a warning, it seemed that the young students were up for the challenge. Hopefully, they wouldn’t regret it…
The first student to move through the threshold of the middle was the scrappy Jack Warren, followed by a seemingly more reserved Avery. However, just moments after Akari stepped through the entrance, there was a low rumble. Suddenly tendrils of roots and vines erupted from the opening. Branches weaved and pulled together as the hedges quickly closed off the entrance to the middle path, leaving the students standing in the dark corridor with no way to get our except through the maze.
With the entrance now closed, the path became darker and more still as the hedges offered no more movement. The path inside would quickly weave to the right through a winding, but open path. A short way down the path, however, the students would be faced with a new option. A narrow path branched sharply to the left while the main path seemed to continue forward for a short way. In the darkness, which path would they choose?
