Summer Camp Summer Camp Adventure Group 3 Closed

The whole summer camp Haley had not been lucky enough to be in any group with her best friend, but luck was on her side today. Today the two of them were finally in a group and could solve the next tasks together. Haley listened intently to Alan's explanations as she impatiently shifted her weight on both her legs in turn. As soon as they got the go, Haley grabbed Cosmo gently by the arm and pulled her with her to the tent. Haley could hardly wait to see what the mysterious adventure was.

As she walked through the tent, she found herself in a small room. Magic, she loved it. She slowly spun on her axis, taking it all in. Shelves, books, not just books, whole towers of books. Jazz music played softly in the background and all in all it had a quaint atmosphere. She could see a lit wooden stool with a small scroll on it. Haley stepped closer to it and realised that it was sealed with a red wax seal. A quill lay next to it.

Haley picked up the scroll and looked over her shoulder at her team. "I think this one is for us." She said as she held the scroll up in the air for a moment. Carefully she opened the seal and unrolled the writing. After her eyes quickly skimmed over the writing once, she read the text aloud one more time for everyone before offering to pass the letter on to someone who might want to read it again themselves.

"I know the first answer. " Haley quipped delightedly. This was something Haley surprisingly knew without thinking. As soon as she had found out that she was a witch, she wanted to know everything about this magical world. But most of all she wanted to know about this magic in her home country and as the red-haired girl had always been interested in nature and animals, she eventually learned about the bird that was native to Ireland and Britain. The Irish Phoenix.

"It's the Augurey, correct me if I'm wrong." She continued now, but was sure she was right about that.

As Haley now pondered the next questions, she walked around the room intently. "Do you have any ideas?" she asked Cosmo as she looked more closely at the twoer of books. "Maybe we can find the answers here somewhere in the books too." Haley thought aloud and looked to see if she could find anything. But how was she supposed to find anything with all these books? She didn't even know where to start and secretly hoped that one of the other members of her team already had the answer in mind.

Cosmo was overjoyed to finally be doing an activity with her best friend. It had been a good summer for them, with many happy days spent relaxing by the lake and enjoying one another's company. Still, she couldn't help be a little disappointed when with each new game they were sorted into seperate groups. As Cosmo walked towards the big tent and saw Haley there, she let out an excited whoop and took the other gryffindor in a big bear hug, as though they hadn't seen each other in months. Then Alan began his explanation, and the whole thing seemed simple enough, but knowing Hogwarts it was never simple so Cosmo was glad to know he would be accompanying their group through the tent.

A small gasp escaped Cosmo as she and Haley walked through the tent doors arm in arm. It felt as though they had just stepped into a little bookshop from back home. The dim lights and soft music were there, the only thing missing was the smell of tea and tobacco wafting through the shelves. This was much nicer, more kid friendly. Cosmo listened quietly as Haley read from the scroll, and beamed when her friend knew the first answer.

"That's amazing love! Good job!" she never ceased to be impressed with Haley's knowledge. Especially as she felt that her own was so often lacking when it came to the wizarding world. Cosmo had been raised as a muggle, but Annabel Keith did her best to explain as much about magic to her daughter as she could. Everything she knew came from Lewis Keith, who went missing well before Cosmo even reached the age of one, but before then he would chatter to his wife and new baby about his job endlessly. As far as Annabel understood it, he worked for a magical organisation within the muggle army which was learning to incorporate divination into muggle wars. One week he would talk about the difference in Jupiter and Saturn's rising rates and the next he would talk about centaurs. Annabel was completely lost, but she loved to listen, which was exactly how Cosmo felt when her mother relayed the information years later.

Cosmo scratched her head and scrunched up her nose in response to Haley asking if she knew any answers. "Y'know what, the word Demiguise is familiar..." she mused, "I think mum said dad was talking about them at some point, and dad always used to talk about things to do with divination. Maybe a Demiguise is like Centaurs and their eyes go blue when they're telling what the future is?" she was far less certain than her friend, but there wasn't anything else her dad would talk about for hours on end like he had with divination. "If either of you two know better though, please say," Cosmo flashed a grin at Willow and Ruka, only just acknowledging their presence. She realised a second later her mistake, and immediately apologised.

"Oh I'm sorry! My name is Cosmo, and this is my friend Haley. We're second year gryffindors, pleasure to meet you!" she stuck out her hand to be shook with a smile.

Ruka had been surprised to find his efforts had been tracked even throughout summer holidays, and he had been even more surprised to find himself one of the most hardworking students, considering he hadn't exactly done a lot to warrant that description. Still, he had followed the call for them to gather and be divided into small groups, so Alan could explain to them what exactly it was they were supposed to be doing. Not that his explanation was anything but vague, really. Pushing their way into the tent, the setup was clear enough to tell them they were supposed to be gathering clues even without having been advised to do so while still outside.

The books were the first indicator, the ominous scroll the next. Two of the girls he was with were quick to jump into action. He wasn't familiar with either of them, so for the moment he stuck to the one person he did know; Willow. He only separated from her once one of the girls opened the scroll and read out the questions on it. They weren't exactly difficult, fell right into one of Ruka's biggest interests, so his eyes lit up for a moment with vague amusement. He nodded when the girl with the scroll titled the Irish Phoenix as the Augurey; Only just upon their arrival had Ruka told Kazuo and Erin about the Augurey, the roughed up looking bird with its green-grey feathers and their song predicting rain. His whole cabin was themed after it.

When the scroll was held out, Ruka was quick to take it, reading through the questions himself and frowning slightly at the excessive amount of space between the last question and the signature of that Oblivious Researcher. He truly had to be oblivious if he already struggled with simple questions like that. The second girl was also right in answering the questions about Demiguise, the creatures who's eyes turned blue while they were having visions. That only left one question unanswered, and Ruka grinned brightly as he put the scroll down on the surface it had been found on - Was there a desk or was everything placed on that single wooden stool? - and grabbed for the quill to dip it inside the ink and scribble away at the answers.

"The Fwooper is an African bird," he told the group excitedly, recalling what he had read in his thoroughly studied copy of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. "They're sold with a Silencing Charm on them because their song will drive you insane after a while. They come in all sorts of colours! Uric the Oddball once wanted to prove that their song had health benefits, but when he was supposed to present his findings after listening to it for a few months, he showed up wearing nothing but a dead badger on his head..." He drifted off there, unsure if anybody really cared about that much detail on this random magical bird and the people who had studied them. Just because he was enthused by the topic didn't exactly mean anybody else would be.

Instead he turned his attention to Cosmo, who was holding out her hand in greeting. After putting down the quill again,Ruka shook it rather awkwardly before taking a step back. "Seen you around before," he told the girls with a nod. They were all Gryffindors, after all, shared the same Common Room. "I'm Ruka." Leaving Willow to introduce herself, Ruka instead focused on the scroll again, curious to see if it might show any indication of whether their answers had been wrong or right.

Willow was excited that the extra work that she was doing despite it being summer was being rewarded. Not that she wouldn't have done it otherwise. She usually did extra work during the summer to try and keep up with students that she felt were more advanced than she was. There was always extra work to be done, and she was happy to do it as it made her feel like she was a more competent witch for it. The even more exciting part of this was the fact that she got to spend more time with Ruka. He had been an anomaly to her for quite awhile but she did want to be friends with him despite it all, and she thought maybe he wanted to be friends with her too.

There were a couple of other people that she didn't really know, so she stuck to Ruka's side while examining the room with the wide eyes of the house that was known for finding things. She was quickly pulled back into the conversation as people introduced themselves. "A badger among the lions, that's fun!" Her bright grin was proof that she was being genuine, "I'm Willow, soon to be third year of Hufflepuff!" She kind of air nudged Ruka (since he doesn't like to be touched, last time she touched him he abandoned her at a ball... twice) with her arm after his speech about Fwoopers, "Look at you go. Seems like you guys have all the answers."

She kind of pouted that she couldn't help with any of those. They seemed right so she had no correction to be made. But the light that was swinging was agitating her. So she attempted to reach up and grab it to steady it, and if possible pull it down. "This lamp is so annoying!" Her eyebrows furrowed in concentration, this was obviously a very important operation.

Another refreshing team that worked together in order to proceed, as Alan would notice in watching them solve the first part of the task. @Haley Rose would chime in as she gave the first response on the questionnaire. Augurey was the correct answer. And even @Cosmo Keith would try their best to be of use, before @Ruka Burnett-Tân would take over and start to write down the messages. The prefect would feel a little bad as @Willow Anderson felt bad for not getting to answer one of the questions, but Alan was sure there would be a time for her to shine. After all there would be many tasks.

Willow a bit agitated by the soft swinging of the lamp would reach for it and take it from its holding in order to stop its movement. She had now acquired a lamp which could proof useful in this dusty, dark room, especially if her goal was to find something.

With all of the answers filled in, the empty part would begin to fill in with words and unveil even more of text and a few points for their team.

With the revealed text something else appeared next to each of the questions, three little figurines, each depicting the creature in question; an Augurey, a Fwooper and a Demiguise. The little token would translate into three points at the end of this.

Talking to the whole group!

Cosmo already loved her group, Ruka had become adorably excited about Fwoopers, and began regaling them with tales of someone with the strangest name. Willow had a bright smile and seemed to be particularly merry, both points in her favour as far as Cosmo was concerned. After all answers had been filled in she peered around Ruka's arm, being far too small to look over his shoulder, and gasped softly as the previously blank part of parchment revealed its hidden message. It had been a whole year since Cosmo saw magic for the first time, but she still delighted in each new spell or fancy charm.

Bouncing on the tips of her toes now, she read the message out for Haley and Willow to hear, before following it up with an excited, "this is so cool! We should split up to find it faster, and maybe cast lumos? It's pretty dark in here," she grinned at Willow, "you don't need to of course! I think it's probably smart to bring that lantern into the next rooms too, just in case y'know?" With a happy bounce in her step, the young gryffindor parted ways from everyone else, and quietly cast the light charm before beginning to search. She looked between book stacks and up on the shelves, she ran her fingers along walls, tapping every now and then for hollow places and even peeked inside the old gramophone just to be certain.

Writing down the answers on the scroll actually revealed a message in the suspiciously empty part of the scroll, which made Ruka glad he hadn't wasted time on casting Revelio on the piece of parchment. This oblivious researcher had truly gone all out on forgetting about absolutely everything, including the exact location of that key they apparently needed to advance.

Lowering the parchment a little to allow Cosmo a better view, Ruka gave the little Fwooper figurine a fond look. It made him wish he had taken his owl along with him. Maybe Fuwa could have helped them find that key, or at the very least offered some fluffy company. Instead he had left her to roam the grounds, or maybe take whatever opportunity she could get to snuggle up to Kazuo while glaring at his cat. He made a note to take her along wherever he was going to go from here on out. Putting the scroll down, Ruka turned his attention to Willow for a moment, offering her a grin and actually nudging her arm with his elbow. A small act of permission to do more than just pat the air around him. He had come a long way since he had abandoned her at the Blossom Ball. "Badgers are fossorial animals," he pointed out with a lop-sided smile. "So you should be a great asset in our quest to dig our way out of here." What a great joke. Pat on the shoulder, Ruka.

With that said, he turned to face Cosmo again, a small giggle escaping him as he observed the girl's obvious excitement. She seemed about ready to find that key, and Ruka couldn't help but admit that her eagerness spurned him on as well. "Splitting up sounds like a solid plan," he agreed with a nod, looking around the rest of his group before setting off on his own search. Among those books, the message had said, so that was where Ruka focused his attention after having pulled out his wand to cast Lumos. Whether the spell worked or not, he would proceed to rummage through any of the books he could find, opening them and gently shaking out their pages, just in case there would be a key between them somewhere. Cosmo seemed to have all the other objects covered at least, even that gramophone, so he figured focusing on one specific part of the room was the best course of action.

The team quickly got into the swing of things and wrote down the first answers. It immediately became apparent that they were correct with their answers when a new text appeared on the paper. Haley had wondered why there was still so much space, but now it made sense.

Enthusiastically, Haley looked back and forth between the parchment on which they had just written the answers and Cosmo as she read aloud the message that had now appeared. Magic - she loved it. Haley grinned happily to herself as her gaze passed once around the room. "Lots to search here." she muttered more to herself than to her group, scratching the back of her head.

"Lumos is a good idea." she agreed with Cosmo, grabbing her wand and letting it light up, looking through the first tower of books, then at a shelf and on and on she would work her way through the room, hoping that one of the team would quickly find the key.

"Anyone find it yet?" Haley asked, but knew the answer. If someone had found something, they would have immediately told the group but maybe there were more clues somewhere where they could look.
