Dark lit tooms reminded Jo of her Common room in which, recently, she has been spending a lot of time reading, and looking at bloodlines. Although usually lit bright with the open windows, the closed windows of winter were prevalent in this classroom.

Jo took a seat, her almost grey Uniforms rustling as she did. Jo kept thinking about her friend. She was one of her only somewhat "real" friends in primary school. Jo never liked thinking of primary school, it was boring and in her words, "sad". Looking around the room it seemed to be a mixed class, Hufflepuff and Slytherin. Jo didn't at first even LIKE being a Slytherin, but over the last couple of months, she got used to it.

She looked at the old desks, some of them seemed to have parts of their paint peeling off, but It wasn't anything major and if it was, it was only on the sides. Everything in the classroom felt... at home in its own place. Although potions being Jo's favourite class, Jo enjoyed Charms and DADA more then she would have thought.

As she looked around the room, she made eye contact with someone eerily familiar. She looked a lot like the girl Jo was thinking of, her hair dark brown and long, her eyes are kind.

The DADA room was dimmer than a few of her other classes. The class was with Slytherins today. Callista didn't mind, although she knew that a lot of people didn't like the house. One of her closest friends was in Slytherin house, actually. In her honest opinion, house superstitions were biased and she didn't understand why they would exist or why it would make such a big deal. She had met plenty of perfectly nice people in Slytherin house. (Although, who doesn't have their biases?)

One of the earlier people to come as always, Callista entered the classroom with her usual bag, dressed in school robes with an everyday casual outfit underneath, her wand hidden in an inside pocket and books neatly stored in her bag. A few people were already there, and she took a seat and did her usual routine.

She slung her bag over the back of her chair, took her wand out and placed it on the table, getting the relevant textbooks out (mostly for show, she had already read through all of them) and plopping a bottle of ink on the desk as well. If one would look at her desk, they would find that it was neatly organized, textbooks clean and wand well cared for. The desk might have been a bit worn, but no matter - it worked perfectly fine, and who could expect an ordinary desk to hold up against years of sitting in a classroom where spells were performed by eager young wizards and witches?

As she finished her preparations, Callista lifted her head and met the eyes of a Slytherin sitting nearby. Her first instinct was to look away, not wanting to draw too much attention to herself. However, her eyes were drawn to the individual's red hair. Dyed, judging by how it's washing out, was her first thought. And then the internet words registered, and she had a moment of déjà vu. Dyed red hair..? The girl looked unsettlingly familiar, almost like... but no, that couldn't be possible. Her childhood friend had moved away, and besides, she was a Muggle... wasn't she?

The return of the prolonged look ( as it was not yet a stare) was returned to Jo. The girl held resemblance to someone, she just couldn't quiet put her finger on it. The darkly lit classroom was really getting to Jo's vision, her considering it average in normal lighting with a bit of hiccups here and there, the dark lighting made it hard to point out details and much more recognize a face from a long time ago.

As she sighed and looked over at her supplies, the bare basics. Parchment, quills, ink, and ofcourse a textbook and a wand. She quietly thought to herself about the girl who seemed so familiar but yet so distant to her, as she leaned back in her chair with arms crossed (which was a habit ever since her first day of school in general and symbolized her going into deep thought) she thought, names. Jo needed to remember names. She would have rather forgot almost every single name that wasn't someone from her family or someone she dearly missed, which considering Jo's strong will, she ofcourse did. Jo was good at remembering things most of the time, but names from a couple years ago that she has forgotten didn't very much fall into the category of things she remembered.

As she thought for what felt like hours (which was more like 1 minute) she came to a Name. One that the girl's face seemed to attach to.
"Callista?" Jo asked nervously

Callista looked away from the... girl... as she reviewed her notes from last lesson. She tried to focus, but her mind stubbornly kept thinking of that girl. And then - less than 5 minutes after she started reading, her name was called.

"Callista?" She looked up in confusion. Her name had been called by the girl that looked eerily familiar. There was no doubt that the other girl knew her - how else would she be familiar with Callista's name? - but she still couldn't get the name.

As she stared at the Slytherin girl, memories floated to her mind. Of younger days, days of sunshine and smiles. Something clicked in her mind. What had she thought? Jo... Jo. Josette. "Are you..." Callista paused. "Jo?" Staring, daring to hope.

The memories slowly started to filter back. Funny how that worked. It was like digging up a chest buried in dust, abandoned in an attic. But the chest wasn't filled with gold - no, it was filled with memories. Rainy days watching the drops fall, warm treats shared inside, and sunny days with laughter. Afternoons of quiet reading and days of running in the sun.

If one should look into Callista's eyes, they would find them trained on the redheaded Slytherin first-year's, filled with curiosity and undeniable hope. Her usual calm demeanor faltering, she waited. There was a lot she wanted to say, and yet nothing at all.

As Callista's soft brown eyes met Jo, eagerly awaiting a reply, Jo nodded meekly. She felt the hope slowly rising up in her. Jo wanted to so badly run over and greet her, but the ticking time bomb that was awaiting the class to behind was one of many reasons why she doesn't leave her seat. Jo shook with excitement seeing one of the people she missed most along with her family.
" I can't believe you're here! " Jo almost yelled, she was starting to fiddle with her hands, she was resisting the urge to go and give a warm hug to Callista./center]
Jo's eyes met with Callista's, the gentle curve of her eyelids the same as it was years prior, her dark brown eyes not at all cold. The room seemed to warm up with the realization of discovering a new (old) friend! It felt like finally seeing the polaroid picture after shaking and waiting and being surprised at how different it seemed from what you remembered. Much less anticipated the photo to look like.

The simple joy of seeing somebody she remembers filled her up to the brim with hope. It made her relax a bit, forget about the teasing in primary school about her rough and flaking books, forget about the hard times, and remember the times someone would comfort and help Jo.

The dim and grey skies, with skies coloured the colour of gravel, with tree shaped skies and simple people. It seemed like flipping open a new edition of your favourite series, same people new adventures.

At Jo's confirmation, Callista's eyes filled with disbelief, confusion, and joy all at once. To think that her childhood friend would be here, at Hogwarts, of all places. Her Asian features were just like she remembered, but she was much taller than Callista remembered, about four inches taller than her. She didn't remember seeing Jo around in the commons, and by her robes, she deduced that her friend had been sorted into Slytherin.

"Me neither!" Callista replied, still in awe. It was then that her logic caught up with her emotions, and her kind eyes clouded briefly with doubt. Her mind was replaying all the conversations they had together as children, wondering if Jo had always been magical. She didn't want to believe that her friend would lie to her, but she could understand why she might. If Callista had grown up in a magic family, she would keep quiet about it too.

Hesitantly, Callista asked, "Did you always know about... all this?" She waved her hands around aimlessly as if trying to signify Hogwarts, the existence of magic, and everything else she had learned upon receiving the letter with a brief gesture. Her voice was still soft and quiet, but her dark brown eyes were uncertain.

She had had few friends back in elementary school, and Jo was one of the only ones that had stuck around through the hard times, a welcome presence in her home. Callista never cared if her friend's supplies were old and weathered or if her clothes were baggy and didn't fit. If Jo forgot something, Callista would always lend her own. When one of them was feeling down or discouraged, the other would always be there to support them. It had always filled her heart with warmth, knowing that someone outside of her family cared.
