Ezekiel looked down to the paper and quill at his hands. He had just been appointed the next male prefect of Slytherin and honestly, he wasn't sure he was ready for this kinda control. He needed to ask his mother for advice, even with her being so far away, he knew he could rely on her in the long run. So, he began to write.
Dear Mother,
Thank you for all the well wishes for the previous letter, but a lot has happened between when I began the year to know. I got in a fight, let's start there I suppose. I was in the library and I fell back, and these two boys were climbing up the shelves behind me? I think one was a girl, fell down on me, the boy did.
I shoved him off and he went and bumped his head. Then I heard this scream and saw this other student jump down at started hitting me. I couldn't get her off. Luckily, a prefect was there and she saved me, I ended up in the hospital for a few weeks, but I'm fine now really! Anyways I've met a lot of new people, and they've all been super helpful and I'm grateful for them. Oh-oh-oh, and also. I became a prefect for Slytherin! Isn't that awesome. It was decided a couple of days ago, I was super surprised by it. I hope you write back soon, and if you see dad, tell him I said hi.

Ezekiel looked down at the paper and smiled, sealing the paper and handing it to the owl. "Fly my friend!" He yelled out, watching as the owl soared off into the distance.

It had been a few days since Ezekiel's last letter home and still no response. Usually, his mom was to answer as soon as she could to tell him how she was doing. So Ezekiel decided to write another one, retelling what had happened in the days since the previous.
Hey Mom,
I miss you a ton, Hogwarts is amazing. I hung out with a couple of other prefects and we just had a ton of fun. Me and Eris went and built this HUGE snow castle that we defended from the invaders on the grounds. We pushed them back with our snowball cannons and took over the outside of the castle! But then, the snow started melting so we had to abandon the fort, buy me and Eris still had a ton of fun! Also, me and another prefect went to Hogsmeade and bought a bunch of candies to bring back to the school. It was her idea to by so much candy, I just wanted to go out and explore all around the castle.
I hope you're doing better, and tell dad I said hi.

Ezekiel smiled at his letter, taking it in his hands and handing it to one of the owls. "Freedom!" He called out as the owl took to the air, flying out towards his old home.

It was strange for this mom to not write back whenever she received a letter from him, She was always interested in what was going on with him at Hogwarts. He shrugged off the questions he had about her not responding and set to work writing another message back to her.
Hi Mom,
This year is going amazing. Besides a few occasions problems, I'm having so much fun. I think one of the biggest things that happened was I met this girl named Reyna. We were walking through the halls and I guess I scared her, so she fell back and hurt her head really bad. I brought her down to the hospital wing and the nurses took care of her. I sat with her till she woke up to make sure she was okay. She's fine now, but I was worried about her. Also one of my other friends, Lucette, had to leave the school. The headmaster wouldn't tell us why it was, I hope she's okay... Anyways, I've been hanging out with Eris and Reyna a lot know. They are both Gryffindors if I didn't tell you before. They are both really awesome and I love talking to them and just being around them. I love you mom, and tell dad I said hi.

Ezekiel looked at his letter. Just writing their names made him feel a bit happier about everything that was going on in the school. It was a bit strange for Lucette to just disappear. He really hoped she was okay. He missed talking to her and home much she taught him when he first came to the school. He shook his head, taking hold of the letter and handing it to an owl, sending them off with a short. "Fly!"

Nearly a month had passed since Ezekiel's last letter. All the ones he had sent out before had returned, as well as his most recent one. He asked the owl politely to collect any letters that she would find on the ground in and around the house. And she had done just that. Returning with Ezekiel's unopened letters back home. He was in tears, he didn't know what was going on. All he could do was write at this point.
Dear mom,
I hope you're doing okay, I uh, got fired from being a prefect I guess? It's weird and I just didn't know what to do. I cried for a long time, but I guess I'm okay now. I still have my friends from when I was, and they won't leave me I hope. Where are you? What have you been doing? You haven't responded to any of my letters and I just want to make sure I know where to be mailing the letters to the right place...
He drew a half attempted smiley face, but it faded away as a tear dropped onto it, bleeding the ink away from the paper. Ezekiel shook his head, taking the paper in his hand. "Where did you go..." He sobbed, ripping up the previous letters. He couldn't stay up in owlery anymore. Too many bad thoughts, too many bad memories...
