-Kwidich what's th...
Hildegard stopped, she realized that Samantha was talking about Quidditch. A smile started to form on the pale girl's face almost letting a laught, laught that was stopped out of respect for Samantha.
The pure blooded witch was not particularly a fan of quidditch even though she liked the idea of flying with a broom.
But she knew well enough about it to explain it to people who did not know about it at all.
Hildegard smiled,
-Sure, She said with a gentle voice.
It is actually called Quidditch, it's a popular wizard sport in all of the Wizarding World ! We even have a world cup of it once in a while, I've heard we can also play it at Hogwarts, each house have a team !
Miss Schneider paused, then continued.
- So in quidditch we play one team versus another team, each player need to fly on a broom, hum, the team that get the maximum point win at the end of a match win the match.
So hum, to win points you need to mark goals using the Quaffle, a bewitched ball, for a march to end one team need to grab the snitch another betwitched ball, but a small golden one with wings, if tou grab it your team also gain 150 points. There is a third ball called Bludger that a player can use to hit or annoy another player. Hum, and... players all have a different role in a team, not everyone can try to catch the snitch for exemple.
She paused as it was a long explaination, but then had an idea that might be nice,
-Samantha, do you want to see a match together ? It can be fun ! I mean as long as we don't get hit by one of the ball... which I guess is unlikely to happen.

A new beginning . . . or Another Mistake?
Samantha figured that she pronounced the word wrong when Hildegard gave out a slight giggle after she asked the question. Her cheeks flushed red in embarrassment, looking slightly away from the pale girl for a moment.
Once Hildegard explained how Quidditch works, Samantha eagerly listened. So it was a sport, after all; it was not some sort of cuisine. 'Well, it sounded like food to me,' Samantha thought. She wasn't really that into sports either, but knowing how the game works amazed her a lot. It was also fascinating to know that people actually fly on broomsticks, and she thought those things only exist in Halloween-themed movies.
"So it's basically soccer, basketball, baseball, and dodgeball combined... together with people flying on broomsticks and catching some tiny, flying ball," Samantha said. Even though Samantha figured out Hildegard would find the terms soccer, basketball, baseball, and dodgeball a bit weird, she hoped that it would still be a good topic so that the pure-blood witch could know a bit about the Muggle world.
Samantha's eyes seemed to twinkle when Hildegard invited her to watch a Quidditch match. This seemed to be the first time someone else would invite her to do something fun. Other than that, Samantha's initial thought of Hildegard being quite hostile towards Muggle-borns was drifting away. The pale girl seemed so nice after all.
"Of course I'd like to watch a game with you!" Samantha exclaimed. "Well, I may not be that interested in sports in general, but Quidditch is way different than the sports I grew up to know, so why not?"
Samantha paused for a moment, frowning because of a thought that crossed her mind. "What if we're in different Houses, though? Can two people from different Houses seat next to each other or something? I sure hope that's the case."

A new beginning . . . or Another Mistake?
Hui Ming let out a choked sound as he seemed to look at Avery in disbelief. Oh dear, had Avery done it again, spewing out random thoughts that were a little too sincere left and right? He didn't think he had a big mouth, but compared to Hui Ming, he probably seemed to sputter utter nonsense.
“No you’re fine, I assure you.” Avery breathed a brief sigh of relief, because if Hui Ming had anything negative to say, he was sure he would've burned Avery right away with a tone dripping acid. “Though how you get away with such restlessness, I can’t imagine. Baba and Ma would have been scandalized if I were to act so….freely.” Avery contemplated this. His parents often did find his stubbornness irritating. It was blasphemy if he didn't practice violin well enough, or focus on homework hard enough, or somehow seemed to shamefully 丢脸 or "lose face" for the family by disgracing their image. "Well I've probably been spanked and grounded far more times than you have in your life, so consider yourself lucky, mate!" he said with a crooked grin. In truth, getting to behave his own way didn't come naturally at all times, due to his upbringing. After all, "the nail that sticks up always gets struck down". He still had a very innate longing to just "appear normal" and feared judgement easily...
Hui Ming apologized suddenly, and seemed to be slightly embarrassed by his admission and thanks. Avery shrugged it off. "Yeah, you were totally giving me flashbacks of my dad. I was seriously scared for a moment there, but thankfully you can't ground me for annoyingly barging in, so why don't we just call this even?" He smiled and stuck out his hand to shake. If Hui Ming didn't take it, he wouldn't be too offended because he can do him.
"Do you think we should go back?" he asked, realizing that they had just completely ditched the girls. "If they asked why we ran out, you can just say that I smelled bad and I can say it's because I wanted to chase you with my odor," he joked and laughed at his own joke, before catching himself and closing his mouth. Okay, maybe it's a little too early be joking with the guy.

A new beginning . . . or Another Mistake?
Hui Ming looked at the proffered hand a fraction of a second, surprise clearly etched on his face. But then the moment was gone and Hui Ming clasped the hand of his first friend in Hogwarts in a firm handshake.
“Even, then.” A small nod, as if to settle matters.
And then Avery – was it okay to call him that? He hadn’t told him not to drop the Mr. – had gone up and brought up the girls he’d left behind. Ming was about to worry, but then Avery made that horrible, horrible joke.
Ming froze, and stared at him for a moment, eyes wide. Then, he lost the battle to hold his composure and broke out in a fit of laughter. The image of him, running around in sheer terror as a sweaty, stinky Avery all but chased him down the train was simply too hilarious to overcome, and his only response was helpless laughter. Unrestrained, unrefined laughter – the kind that would get him disapproving frowns at the dinner table. He laughed and he laughed, until the worry and anxiety and stress drained from him, leaving only a small warm ball of contentedness.
“Chased away by your smell,” he chuckled finally. “I will not deny that that that could have been a possibility, some other day. For today, though. I’m glad you chased me.”
He patted his friend on the shoulder. “Come on then. Let’s head back.”

Avery was surprised as Hui Ming gripped his hand in a firm shake, but mostly glad that they were able to find some reconciliation. Here was the first person he met in the wizarding world who witnessed how much of a bumbling fiend he could be, but still was able to openly accept him.
Avery held his breath after catching himself mid-laugh at his own dumb joke, hoping he hadn't dropped his guard too early before letting loose that mouth of his. To his relief, Hui Ming's composure eventually broke and the two boys laughed together loudly, voices reverberating off the windows and compartment doors. Whatever feud they had between them seemed to melt away, off the pages of history.
“Chased away by your smell,” Ming chuckled as they both caught their breath. “I will not deny that that that could have been a possibility, some other day. For today, though. I’m glad you chased me.” Oh yes, Ming could be sure to count on that another day. "There's no way you can possibly ever escape this stench monster so easily! To be continued," he proclaimed.
Ming gave him a brief pat on the shoulder and the two boys headed back to the compartment, Avery still musing over their shared laughs. He slid open the compartment door and announced their arrival. "We're back!"

-From what I have heard the only thing that we can't do is going to each other's common room and dorm, apart from that I am pretty sure we can seat together where we want and cheer the team we want and so on. Hildegard replied to Samantha.
When Hildegard saw the two boys being back, she briefly looked at Samantha, then at the boys.
-Sorry to put this subject like that but, all of you, I have something important to tell you so you better listen, for your own good. She said coldly.
-As you know, the Wizarding World, us wizard are hiding ourselves from Muggle. And there is a reason for that.
She paused, a bit of anger and hate were slowly showing through her tone.
-We never were able to live together, every time, every single time, Muggle feared us, hunted us, burned us for what we were. While we only wanted to live in peace !
Again Hildegard paused took a breath to sound less emotional about it.
-We went into hiding, some say it's to protect ourselves some say it's to protect Muggles. I've heard lots of stories of some of my ancestor's being burned alive. and it's probably the same for lots of other wizard... All that to say that Wizards have often a bad relationship with what concerns Muggles. We even have a concept of blood purity, you see, some wizard consider themselves superior to other wizard because they have less muggle ancestors, on the peek of this hierarchy there is my kind, the pure-blooded wizards, we do not have any known muggle within our ancestry. There is also in-betweens but at the button there are your kind, the Muggle-born. Some people call you Mudblood but it's very pejorative, they hate you, think you are inferior and have less magical power. You should consider yourself lucky that I am not one of them, even though I do admit that I have a problem with your kind as I was talking with Samantha, I think your very existence is a problem for us wizard. You better be careful if you meet one of them I just wanted to let you know that. That's all.

A new beginning . . . or Another Mistake?
Samantha's question about people from two Houses sitting next to each other as they watch a Quidditch match was left unanswered when Avery and Ming came into the compartment. Looks like she was right that Avery came to talk to the other boy, and from smiles plastered on their faces, it seemed that everything went well. Still, Samantha was still itching to say what she wanted to say to Ming, but the guy looked pretty happy.
Samantha just decided to speak up a bit; she didn't want this to bother her any longer, and she wanted Ming to know that she was friendly anyway.
"Hey Ming, if ever I said something earlier that made you a bit uncomfortable earlier, I'm sorry. I never meant to offend you or something; all I did earlier was just voice out something. I... I hope we could still get along well."
After Samantha apologized, she heard Hildegard abruptly bringing up the topic the two girls brought up together. Samantha hoped that it would take a pretty long time before the pale girl would bring it up again, but apparently, Hildegard wanted to bring it up as soon as possible. Now that the other girl brought it up, Samantha had no choice but to listen intently.
As Samantha took in every word Hildegard said, she started to shudder a bit. Even in this world, there are still people who reject others just because they're different. Besides, Muggle-borns like her never did anything wrong to these wizards in the first place. Was it because of that thing Samantha read about burning suspected witches at the stake? If so, then she didn't know why they were still scared as Muggles that time were way different from those of the present day.
And also what Hildegard said made Samantha confused: "...I do admit that I have a problem with your kind... I think your very existence is a problem for us wizards." Surely Hildegard didn't have any problem with Samantha. They were casually talking about Quidditch earlier, and Hildegard seemed to be having fun as she talked to the bespectacled girl. Maybe the pale girl had a different thought but she didn't know exactly how to word it?
Whatever it was, Samantha decided to just smile reassuringly at Hildegard. "Thanks for the warning, Hildegard," Samantha said. "But I also wanna reassure you that us Muggle-borns will never reveal any secret about you guys to the Muggle world. Other than the fact that we were told to keep our mouths shut - well, assuming Avery and Ming were also informed - I'm sure that there is some other reason for that, and we respect why. So you don't have to worry; your secrets are safe with us Muggle-borns. You'll be fine, Hildegard."

A new beginning . . . or Another Mistake?
Hui Ming nodded in acknowledgement of the tall girl, and had just opened his mouth when the pale girl started on her story. Ming’s shoulders tensed imperceptibly, he schooled his features back into neutrality at the girls’ words. Inside he was seething. He did not like this girl. Not one little tiny bit.
… think your very existence is a problem for us wizard. You better be careful …
Who did this girl think she was? Ill-mannered but taking pride in her bloodline, speaking of how the purebloods with found that the Muggles and Muggle-borns were a problem. ‘Normalcy is just a common ground use to hurt others.' Those were the words Miss Foster that had sent him running before, but now...
Miss Foster was being her charming self and trying to reassure Schneider, but Hui Ming wouldn’t have any of it. He sat in the corner, his back straight, and looked over the three others in the room. How should he go about this . . . ?
His mind immediately leapt to the witches in the fairy tales, but that would probably cause more trouble than the satisfaction was worth.
“Well, I agree. Muggles and Mudbloods are scary,” he said finally, his voice flat and matter-of-fact. He looked Schneider right in the eye and continued. “They are different, and queer in unimaginable ways. Their motivations and life are different from what you’ve been taught. It is rather difficult to know what to expect. And there are just so many of them all over the world.”
He let his words hang in the air for just a moment.
“I wonder if anyone else in this cabin has to deal with being in the minority in a new and strange world, where people do and say the most odd things as if it was normal, and where common sense just goes out the window.” His eyes moved over to Miss Foster for but a second, before moving right back on Schneider.
“Or, perhaps if there are people who know what it feels like to be left out because something important about the way they are just doesn’t match with those around them.” A quick glance at Avery, but then his grey eyes were right back on Schneider. “Perhaps, some people even grew up reading children’s tales about how the witc- group of people they’ll be spending the rest of their lives with are always evil and selfish and cause trouble for no good reason.”
Hui Ming shrugged before reaching for his trunk, but the contempt was there in his voice for those that cared to pick up on it.
“It would be oh-so rude and selfish not to be considerate of those feelings.”
And with that, he withdrew a book on Introductory Physics, and opened it. “And I would never want to be seen as rude.”
And with that, he buried his face behind his book, determined not to speak another word to the stupid sickly girl for the rest of the train ride.

A new beginning . . . or Another Mistake?
As he re-entered their compartment, he felt an air of seriousness settle over as Hildegard began to explain the feuding relationship between the muggle world and the wizarding world. Avery listened intently, and shuddered to learn that there were some pure-bloods who hated muggle-borns like him. He knew that issues of racism, classism, and sexism, et cetera existed in the muggle world he grew up in, but he never fully contemplated how different he might be compared to children like Hildegard who grew up in an environment so different from his -- he was simply excited to be joining a new school and doing his best to make friends and learn new things. Perhaps that had just been the naïve child within him.
He listened as Samantha assured the pale girl that muggle-borns like them would never reveal the secret of the wizarding world. He nodded in agreement. The boy had no intention of seeing conflict brew between the two worlds he came from, or betray one side of him to the other. He was also about to reassure Hildegard together with Samantha when Ming jumped in, his tone less reassuring than defensive. "...and there are just so many of them all over the world." Ming paused. Was that a threat? He imagined 7.7 billion muggles marching towards Diagon Alley with guns pointed. Perhaps Ming meant that there are so many muggles, muggle-borns and half-bloods that bigoted pure-bloods should consider themselves the minority instead?
"...or perhaps if there are people who know what it feels like to be left out because something important about the way they are just doesn’t match with those around them." Ming looked pointed at Avery, and he knew the boy was referring to him. Yes, he knew that feeling alright. The Chinese-British boy sometimes felt that he stuck out like a sore thumb in his extended Chinese family, less dignified and obedient than his cousins and possibly less accomplished, seeing how his parents compared him to them all the time.
“It would be oh-so rude and selfish not to be considerate of those feelings, and I would never want to be seen as rude." With that, Ming disappeared behind his book, his tone openly contemptuous of Hildegard.
Avery sat there, frozen, and not quite sure what to do in this somewhat awkward situation. Perhaps Hildegard would explain herself and answer Samantha's question. He looked back and forth at the other three.

Last post for me, thank you all of you, if you continue please consider that Hildegard is talking about random stuff, offering to play cards and stuff like that

Hildegard did not understand a thing of what Ming was trying to say, maybe was it his way of talking or something. So as he spoke she only looked at him as if he was a weirdo and even more when he started to read a book which had a word she did not even understand "Physics".
-What is that Physics thing? She wondered.
She did want to know but she really did not want to talk to Ming, she just wanted to ignore him for the rest of the travel.
She smiled at both Samantha and Avery, and started to chat with both of them about different things muggle and wizard things included during the few hours that seperated them to Hogwarts.
At some point later on she even pulled out a bewitched card game from her pocket and proposed both Samantha and Avery to play with her.
Just making those two her friends while ignoring Ming's very presence.
She thought to invite Samantha to a quidditch match as soon as there was one and was thinking about a way to deepen her friendship with Avery which she quite liked too.
- I really hope they end up in the same house as I do.
