So far, Gabriella reasoned with herself, summer camp had been alright. Her cabinmates were nice, she was enjoying the time she had to relax and she had even made a new friend, that Winter girl from the shelter-building event. Best of all, she hadn't yet had the misfortune to stumble across her arch-enemy, Tory Williamson (even the name of that ghastly Gryffindor made her retch these days), and if that wasn't a good thing she didn't know what was.

Today just hadn't been so great for her. She didn't really know why; there hadn't been any particular major terrible event. It just hadn't been a great day, and she had spent most of it shut up in her own little area of the cabin, reading angsty Muggle romance novels and getting angry about why she wasn't in a relationship herself - despite only being twelve years old.

By the time it got to late afternoon, the Ravenclaw was getting rather bored of the books - which, admittedly, didn't have much of a plotline at all and were mainly focused on the swollen, bleeding heart of the melodramatic 14-year-old protagonist - and decided it would be best for her if she stopped and went for a walk. She had skipped lunch, not having been particularly interested at the time, and she really needed the breath of fresh air she hadn't been able to procure in her stuffy cabin.

The campgrounds, at least, were nice. It was a sunny day, and the lake glistened in the sunlight, looking incredibly inviting. I might just take a dip in the water, she thought. It would be nice. A crowd of students were huddled in one area of the grounds, partaking in the arts and crafts session that Gabby herself had attended a couple of times. It was just... just scenic, and the Ravenclaw felt that now, things were finally starting to go right for her. Maybe this evening she'd skip the campfire, lean out of her cabin window and paint what she saw. The fresh warm air licking her face, her hair waving gently in the summer breeze. Picturesque. This evening, however, was not now, and Gabriella was just considering joining in with the arts and crafts session when she saw her.

Her. Her. Tory Williamson, Gabriella's own arch-enemy and the one person she had been hoping against hope she wouldn't see today. Suddenly, the girl's pent-up rage got the better of her, and she flew at Tory in a storm, unexpected even to herself.

She had no clue what she was saying. All she knew was that she hated this girl with all her heart, and that she would do anything to ruin her day in the same way as she had ruined Gabriella's. Of course, Tory hadn't ruined Gabby's day at all, but if Gabriella could dispel her as a scapegoat, she would.

"Williamson!" she cried. "Why have you been hiding from me all this time? Are you scared, Williamson? Are you scared of scary Gabriella? Are you imposed by her imposing height?" It was fairly safe to say that the flustered Ravenclaw had no clue where she was going with this outburst. Yes, she had just described being scared as 'scary' and being imposed as 'imposing'. No, she hadn't noticed. Yes, this was the girl who used to label herself as a writer. "Shut up," she spat, although Tory hadn't actually said anything yet. "Leave me alone."

Suddenly, she realised what she'd said, and for the first time she began to see why Tory might be justified to hate her. Gabriella still hated the Gryffindor, of course - but she couldn't help feeling a little sorry for her arch-nemesis. "I mean-" she stuttered, "I mean - I'm glad you haven't come near me - and I think I'll just... leave..." She knew it was far too late, and that Tory was sure to pounce on her. In fact, she knew that her sudden change of tone would only make Tory's retaliation worse for her. She gritted her teeth and readied herself for a comeuppance.

Tory had been reading under the same oak tree for over 2 hours now, and with the wind just slightly brushing her hair to the side and the soothing sound of the Great Lake lapping against the shore, she wouldn’t have it any other way. Having been in a surprisingly good mood today, she had thought it would be fun to come sit and read for a bit, seeing as how nice it was out. It was strange, for some reason, she had thought that coming to summer camp and being away from her mother for part of the summer would be sad and depressing and she would feel extremely homesick.

But no, that assumption was incorrect, as she was having a great time so far. She didn’t know anyone in her cabin, and the Gryffindor had barely spoken a word this entire time, but somehow, she really enjoyed it like that. Plus, she hadn’t ran into Haworth yet. Not once. In fact, she had barely done as much as glanced at Haworth. Speaking of Haworth, why was the giraffe of a girl coming towards Tory right now? And why so quickly?!

The 12 year old didn’t have time to try to think of answers to her own questions, for shortly after asking them she was bombarded with a loud cry from Haworth. Covering her ears, the shorter of the two dropped her book and glared up at the furious Ravenclaw. Once Haworth was apparently done shouting, Tory rose to her feet, crossing her arms across her chest. She was enjoying one of her perfectly fun, peaceful days, in a while, when all of a sudden, this girl comes up and disrupts the tranquility. How dare she. Tory was about to snap something back, but then came along the other girls next words. The Gryffindor burst out in laughter, jokingly looking behind her to see of someone else had said something.

“Talking to ghosts now, Haworth?” She spat, snickering one last time before taking a step forwards so that now she and Haworth were face-to-face (or as face-to-face as they could get, seeing as Gabriella was over 4 inches taller than Tory was). After a minute or two of silence, the Gryffindor thought it might be a good idea to just be the bigger person and simply walk away, as it looked like Haworth was in an awful mood, and as she began to slowly back away with her eyes still on the black haired girl, she heard some stutters come from her nemesis. She couldn’t help herself. At the odd change of tone, it was almost impossible not to laugh, especially when it was someone you hated.

Tory doubled over laughing, finally catching some breath and sneering, “Guess your less of a giraffe then I thought. Your more of a chicken.”. She began walking closer to Haworth again, still laughing to herself, when she tripped on a stick she hadn’t seen there. And she flew. And she landed right on top of the girl she was supposed to be arguing with. Even worse, this was eerily similar to the time they first met, when almost the same thing had happened. Why, oh why, did Tory always manage to embarrass herself in situations like these? I mean, imagine if somebody came up and saw her laying on top of Haworth like this, all sprawled out.

That person could get some very wrong -gag- romantic ideas, and romantic ideas were just about the last thing the Gryffindor wanted to be included in, especially if they were with Haworth. Yikes.

Recently, Ara had been getting into books, and she had been dragging Scarlett into her obsession as well. Early on in the short month Scarlett had been home, Ara had proudly shown Scarlett her brand-new bookcase, completed with volume upon volume of Muggle literature. "Mum wants me to read more sophisticated literature," said Ara with an eye roll. "She says it's weird for me, a budding actress and fabulous - if I do say so myself - future diva, to be enjoying books! And she says that if I was going to like a book, it should be high-brow and helpful to my studies! Can you believe her? I don't think she gets the point of 'I can like fashion and read a book' honestly."

"Which mum?" asked Scarlett, never really a fan of books.

"Oh, Rosalind," said Ara. The twins had two mums so when they referred to one of them as 'mum', it was common practice for the rest of the Troop to ask - which mum? "But anyway, go read this, you'll love it." She then promptly thrusted a bright paperback in Scarlett's hands, the words Red, White and Royal Blue titled in fancy lettering across the cover. "Uh thanks," Scarlett had said. She took the book home. She did not read it.

Scarlett didn't read for pleasure anyway, and Ara accepted that after a while. She was more than happy to sit, perched on Ara's bedspread, listening to her raving about her favourite novels.

So it was second nature, after a month of Ara gushing and ranting and crying and praising, that Scarlett would automatically connect a popular book trope to a real life event. The two girls currently lying on top of each other in the grass were a perfect example of this. And, on instinct, Scarlett's mind flashed to a memory of Ara saying the words enemies to lovers.

It was fitting - the two girls had hatred burning in their eyes, directed at each other. Though a few months ago, Scarlett might not have seen any romantic chemistry between the two - heck, Scarlett never saw romantic chemistry between anyone, unless specifically pointed out to her - after thirty-one days of education on the YA lit, even if it was slightly reluctant, Scarlett had enough book titles and character names and ship names and clichés burned into her brain to fill up a novel herself.

Scarlett was bored. She was walking to her cabin, and her cabin was boring. So why not poke some fun at the girls? She didn't mean it, necessarily.

Scarlett snapped her fingers. "Ooh I know this type!" she said with her trademark wicked grin. "Enemies to lovers. When two characters - I mean, people - hate each other with a passion that turns to love! Uh, slowburn, 100k angst." She was pretty much directly quoting Ara at this point, with a vague idea of what 'slowburn, 100k angst' meant from Ara's fangirling.

She was shipping twelve year olds, yes, but many twelve year olds she knew - her classmates even - were already dating people so it wasn't that odd. "Planning on hooking up soon?" she asked the two.

"I guess you're less of a giraffe than I thought," jeered Williamson. "You're more of a chicken." Gabriella had to give it to her enemy, it was a sharp comeback. She winced as though she had been whipped.
"Well-" she began, but it was too late. Tory was flying at her. Gabriella hadn't quite been able to see how it had happened, but it was clear her enemy was very angry with her.

Immediately Gabriella found herself sprawled on the grass, her mortal enemy right on top of her. She grappled the Gryffindor's arms and tried to make her budge - maybe it was just a mistake, maybe Williamson had just slipped, maybe she hadn't meant to tackle Gabby at all - but Williamson still held tight. "Get off!" cried Gabriella, her voice muffled by the weight of her enemy on top of her. "What the heck-"

Suddenly she was interrupted by a voice - a voice that, thankfully, wasn't Williamson's. Maybe this newcomer would be able to get her out of this fix...
"Ooh, I know this type!" squealed the voice - a female voice, although Gabby couldn't actually see because Tory was still on top of her. With some effort, she rolled out from underneath her enemy, her hair knotted and falling about her face as though she had just been dragged through a thorny bush backwards. "Enemies to lovers. When two characters - I mean, people - hate each other with a passion that turns to love!"
"What," groaned Gabriella. It was less of a question, more of a statement. "Enemies to- no, no no no..." Was this what was happening? Gabriella had only just registered what this girl had said. Enemies to lovers? The Ravenclaw had heard of this trope before, not least because of the gushy romances she had spent all day reading, but the fact that it should be affiliated with her? Her and Tory Williamson, no less? "No," she repeated, "that's not what's happening, no way... Williamson and I - we hate each other..."

She realised she wasn't making a very good case for herself, but what could she do? The stronger her denials, the more this girl had to play off. And who was this girl, actually? Certainly Gabriella had never met her. Was she in her year, even? Was she in the year above? The Ravenclaw was certain this girl wasn't in first year, but who the hell was she? And why did she think she had the right to- no, wait, Gabby, said something in her mind. Why are you directing your anger at her? Shouldn't you be directing it at- "TORY WILLIAMSON!" she screamed. "You - little - you little bitch, Tory Williamson!" Hastily, she picked up Tory's book and promptly slapped her in the face with it. "Now look what you've got us into!"

The second-year turned back to the girl and looked her earnestly in the face. "I promise you," she said, "there's nothing at all like that going on."

The next few moments following would seem to be in slow motion, Tory too shocked to say anything much. For one thing, no matter how much she hated Haworth and Haworth hated her, the fact she just got slapped in the face by a book was something she couldn’t quite register. “Your one to to talk! If anybody’s the bitch, it’s you.” Was all she shrieked as the hard-covered book hit her square across the face. Her left cheek tingled with immense pain, and she could tell it was red. For another thing, her worst nightmare appeared to be coming true. She was being put into a romantic situation with none other than Gabriella Haworth herself. Why couldn’t she enjoy herself for one day? Why, out of 365 days, did this have to happen the one singular time she was actually having fun?

Not really thinking, just acting out of sheer anger, Tory turned and slapped Haworth back, it was what she deserved. Bad idea? Probably. Did she care at all? No. She then turned her attention the red-head who had made those disgusting assumptions. “Don’t make me throw up. This dimwitted git here is my enemy, always will be. None of that ‘enemies to lovers’ shit. Now leave us to fight, please.” She said sternly, using a loud voice just in case any other shipping maniacs nearby were listening.

This entire situation was just completely, utterly strange to the Gryffindor. The thought of ever dating and -bleh- ‘hooking up’ with her wasn’t really going through her head the right way. What did that person mean by ‘slow burn’ this was all too confusing. Tory didn’t even have crushes on boys, let alone girls and her literal enemy. Haworth wasn’t even a tad bit pretty. She was paler than a ghost and taller than Big Ben. She wasn’t very nice either, she had trashy insults and her rudeness was the sole reason the shorter of the two hated her so much. Wasn’t it clear that these two hated each other….there was only the ‘enemies’ in their relationship, no ‘lovers’, and so why in the entire world was the girl being all excited and giggly about it? It didn’t line up to Tory. None of this did, truthfully. Not Haworth randomly harassing her, not this person being all romantic about them, none of this.

Tory, more than anything, wanted a hole to open up and swallow her right about now. That would be great. She wanted to run away from this psychos, as far as she possibly could, and never see them again. But she wouldn’t run. She couldn’t. She’d look like a wimp, and Haworth probably wouldn’t let her ever hear the end of it. She’d just have to suck it up. Giddy.

Scarlett was having way too much fun with this whole 'shipping' thing. What with the lack of romance in her life - because Annabeth had run away and was being stupid(ly likable) - Scarlett assigned to herself the role of Cupid, seeing love when love was not there. Though Scarlett's Cupid focused less on her wish for people to meet their soulmates, and more for her wish for entertainment. Because Scarlett was bored, and what better way to quench your boredom than poking fun at people? She had been making fun of others since she could talk. This was just her new method.

Anyway, after one of them rolled off the others - honestly, it was hilarious to see how mortified they were - the roll-offer began to deny Scarlett's claim immediately, which not a good move. This only gave Scarlett another weapon in her fearsome shipping arsenal. She smirked even wider at the sight. Ara would have probably already descended into fangirling madness, and as her protegee, Scarlett was honour-bound to embody her spirit. Scarlett twirled her hair. "Denial. I see that all the time in my friend's romance novels. They hate each other, they like each other, they deny it until they can deny no more and then-"

But Scarlett was cut off by the girl screeching at the other girl - her soulmate - about how she was such a bitch. The other girl was called Tory Williamson, from what Scarlett could gather. Ship names started churning in her mind; all she needed was the first girl's name. "Cute," she remarked at the screaming. "There's always some fighting. You promise me? Well, in a few months, I promise you that you'll be making out with her." Her smile grew. She was in a mean mood today, for no reason. Her small ruthless streak was something that was hard to keep at bay.

"Real nice," she told Tory. "Calling my friend's preferences shit. How old are you anyway? Old enough to start dating your 'enemy', perhaps?" She paused for a moment, before adding on some more. With a rather fake exasperated sigh, she continued. "If you two are to fight, I'm staying right here. I love a good scene. When I fought someone, there was a whole crowd. Proper hand-to-hand combat that was." The words sounded particularly odd coming out of someone so short.

"Oh, and I need your name," she said to the girl who wasn't Tory.

For a moment, Williamson looked furious, before she swung her own arm round to smack Gabby in the face. Gabriella winced and stumbled back; the blow was forceful. She could feel the blood rushing to that place; she probably looked as red as Tory. I suppose I deserved that, she thought to herself.

Unsure of what to do to retaliate, Gabriella picked up a huge chunk of grass and hurled it at her enemy, smirking a little. It took a moment for the Ravenclaw to register that throwing grass wasn't at all impressive, and that would probably cause for even further retaliation from both Tory and this mystery shipper.

"Cute," said the girl, right on cue as Gabriella earnestly declared the two wanted nothing to do with each other. "There's always some fighting. You promise me? Well, in a few months, I promise you that you'll be making out with her."

Gabriella retched; this was simply going too far. For a fleeting moment she considered yelling for a prefect to get her out of this mess, before she remembered the tingling red patches on both her and her enemy's faces. They'd definitely been through some rough experiences in the last ten minutes, and they were sure to get in trouble. She weren't quite sure what the school rules were - in all honesty, Hogwarts hadn't always been the clearest where rules were concerned - but she was pretty sure slapping students with books broke quite a few.
“Don’t make me throw up. This dimwitted git here is my enemy, always will be. None of that ‘enemies to lovers’ shit. Now leave us to fight, please.” Gabriella was glad that Williamson had said it before she did - she had to give it to her enemy, the Gryffindor had articulated it far better than she would have done, although 'dimwitted git' was going a little far. I'm quite good at Charms, actually...
"Real nice," snapped the girl. "Calling my friend's preferences shit. How old are you anyway? Old enough to start dating your 'enemy', perhaps?"

"We're freaking twelve," said Gabriella. She realised that the word 'freaking' wouldn't have nearly as much of an effect as the word it was a replacement for, and that actually it was kinda lame, but it was too late. And currently, she had the upper ground. Incriminating the shipper. "Freaking twelve years freaking old."

Come on, Gabby, said her conscience, the more you say 'freaking', the lamer you sound...

Gabriella pushed the voice of her conscience to one side and continued on her rant. "So go pick on someone your own size."

As soon as she had said it, she realised it was a mistake. She knew the girl was older than she and Williamson, but it hardly showed - Gabriella must be, what, a full five inches taller, and although the shipper was just taller than Tory, coming from the giant Gabby was it seemed ridiculous to be saying it.

Pick on someone your own size. What a dumb thing to say. For a moment, Gabriella considered slapping this girl too, but that wouldn't end well. Who knows, what if the girl started shipping Gabby with herself, too? Disaster, thought the Ravenclaw, with a shudder. As if I haven't got myself into enough of a mess already.

"I need your name," said the girl suddenly, pointing at Gabriella.
"Flora," blurted out Gabby, before she'd had the chance to think.

Flora? Why Flora? Did she not even trust this girl with her name? What was she going to do with it?

Actually, there were quite a few things she could do with it. Paint the words Flora <3 Tory all over the Hogwarts corridors. Write fake Valentine's cards from one to the other. Really, she had no clue what the girl was going to do. Maybe it was best to keep her identity under wraps, though Tory would surely break down her barriers as soon as she got the chance.

Flora, she thought, time to embrace my new identity. "Flora. Flora-" she glanced at an oak tree on the perimeter of the field- "Flora Oaks. I'm in Hufflepuff, if you must know. How about you?" she added conversationally, thinking about how weird this would sound when the truth came out.

The shipping bandit spoke again, unwisely. "Real nice," She spoke to Tory, "calling my friend's preferences shit. How old are you anyway? Old enough to start dating your 'enemy', perhaps?" The lion's jaw fell to the ground with a clank. Date?! Enemy?! What in her right mind was this girl thinking? They were merely 12. The girl could barely manage her friendships, let alone a relationship. Romance was gross, anyways, and way too time consuming.

"We're freaking twelve," Retorted Haworth, and though Tory would have chosen a...different choice of words, for once she agreed with her enemy. Only freaking twelve, shippper lady. "Freaking twelve years freaking old." The Gryffindor chuckled coldly to herself. Haworth really seemed to want to make Tory laugh today. First with the using grass as a weapon, and now saying 'freaking' 3 times in a sentence. Wow. As if this couldn't get more funny to Tory, Haworth then added, '"So go pick on someone your own size.", which made her laugh more until she doubled over. Your own size. Weren't you meant to say that to people taller than you? Oh Haworth, what a comedian she was.

"I need your name." The shipping bandit said to Haworth , to which Tory didn't think much of...until Haworth answered incorrectly. She had given the red-head a fake name and thought up a whole false identity of Flora Oaks, a Hufflepuff. Laughing out loud to herself, the 12-year-old laughed a cold, high-pitched laugh. She would take any chance she could get to embarass Haworth in anyway possible, and this was just too much of an amazing opportunity.

"Flora Oaks doesn't even-" She began, but for some reason, stopped herself. Why did she stop herself, she didn't even know. Maybe it was because in this moment, for once, she and her nemesis were sort of teaming to protect not one, but both of their reputations. Tory knew, and didn't want it to, mean that they got along, because they didn't. She was solely having mercy for Haworth for her own self, so she wouldn't burn down alone. She wanted to reveal who Haworth actually was, she really did, make her annoyed and mad, but she wouldn't. She had stopped mid-sentence, and instead of calling her enemy out decided to focus her attention and anger on the shipper, the true bad guy for the time being. Tory would deal with Haworth's random harassment later on.

"Please just screw off, shipping lady. Nobody asked for this, you're just being annoying. Not cool or funny, just annoying. Leave. " Snapped Tory, throwing a menicing glance towards the girl. She'd keep her dear enemies identity protected. For now, at least.
