"Fight"

One would think Mathias Pride would avoid confrontation with the number of enemies has has made during his short tenure but such was not the case. -Fight me matt smh, whatever smh means. A time and place determined, his refusal of places with delayed intervention such as the showers unreasonably denied. Merely a reflection of his fear, his uncertainty and his discomfort made him a rather unremarkable opponent.
So a one Matt Pride would arrive alone, no need for back-up, cronies, or fan girls. Truth be told, Percival's lady would likely hear about this incident and... well, the subsequent losses of his woman choosing an upgrade would be merely collateral damage. He would take a book from one of the shelves, an alien wonder likely to Rainwood. It would be awhile likely before he arrived. he did know where the library was, right? He was under the delusion that fights were "quiet", one was left to wonder what sort of "fight" the boy was expecting. The sort with locked lips and tangled limbs or the short with announced obscenities' and closed fists making meaty impact.
Percival, I am not that sorta boy...
OK, I totally am.
Come on in big boy.

Percival was not too sure why he had chosen such a public place for a fight with his dormmate. It would have made more sense to keep things within the dormitory. Free of prying eyes and ears that could run to grab a Professor. Maybe that was why he had chosen the Library. Pride had to keep his big mouth shut lest he wanted to land them both in detention. He wasn't too sure he could deal with fighting Pride if the other kept flopping his jowls at him. Besides, he couldn't lie the adrenaline rush he was getting currently getting was more than worth it.| Outfit |
The other's loud mouth had ended them up in this situation. Running to the teacher to blab to her about their rule-breaking. He refused to accept that the intervention of Professor Jensen was probably a blessing in disguise. Or the fact that they were getting their asses handed to them in the dungeon. All that he decided to accept was the other was a rat through and through. Everyone knew that rats should be put down as quickly as possible. You never know when one of those flea-ridden beasts was carrying the plague. The last thing his dorm needed was for an infection to spread.
The boy gritted his teeth together his jaw tightening as he recalled the events. Even if he wanted to back down he could not. He had promised the other that he would enact his own fucked up version of justice. Percival had called for revenge. To back down now, he would look like nothing more than a coward with no backbone. Even if he were to lose this fight of there's, it would look far better than him just simply not showing up like promised.
So, Percival strode into the Library his head held high as he made his way through. Self-assured that he could take the other on without gaining the notice of the Librarian. The boy bit the inside of his cheek as he looked about for the familiar ginger-head. His gaze caught a flash of red to his left. Percival turned his head taking in the scene in front of him. Pride looked the picture-perfect of calm despite the reasoning behind why they both were here. Reading a book when he should have been shaking in his shoes.
The boy's jaw tightened even more as he strode up to the boy. His shoes clicked sharply against the stone flooring that made up the floor of the Library. "Pride." he said his tone sharp and full of aggression. The building pressure in his chest lashing out in his words. Revealing just how angry he already was. "Have you even prepared? Or did you only think to catch up on some light reading?" he scorned.

There was Percival. Percival erm... well, one of them. Seen one, seen them all. Yadda-yadda. In any case, a Percival was approaching with purpose, the sort of expression with a clenched jaw that one would know that they were so constipated that their eyes had to be brown. Well, black in Percy's case. Why the hell to the girls simp for someone so full of shit?
"Pride."
"Percival-something or other," Mathias made a dismissive waving motion with his hand.
"Have you even prepared? Or did you only think to catch up on some light reading?"
"Honestly, I was rather certain you would get lost trying to find the place," Mathias claimed as he closed the book he was pretended to be enthralled by. This was where he was supposed to rise, perhaps make a show of his physical prowess -- a concave pectoral region and noodle-thin arms, that was not happening with a twelve year old's physique.
"But I am prepared enough because you came unarmed," Mathias Pride claimed with the sort of grin that was not physically intimidating but was unsettling in other ways. A long look from the youth would travel from a determined, potentially agitated face down his neck to his chest. Eyes up here baby? No, his eyes continued to wander from the hit portals to his arms, to the sort of 'armed' that Percival would likely consider prepared. Meatier fists, brutal implements of bludgeoning. "Unless you err to believe that the fact that you have arms attached to you that being 'armed' is a literal statement." He closed the book on the table in front of him and pushed it across the table in Rainwood's direction. "It is dangerous here in unfamiliar lands. take this."
There was a way to win this fight despite the year difference between the duo. Yes, Rainwood was bigger, stronger, and had more spells at his disposal. But he lacked one thing in particular which would become readily apparent in the coming minutes. "Before you "pummel" me," yes, there were quote marks being made with his fingers.
"Walk me through the logic," Mathias walked around the table to get a bit closer to the upper classman. "You pick the library, unfamiliar terrain. That is populated," by both students, prefects and adult staff. "It is as if you don't want to fight me, you just want to make a point," either hopeful that the younger would not show or a sense of bravado for his peers. "If you wanted a date, all you had to do was ask."

Percival gritted his teeth together as he studied the boy. One would think the other would step carefully when another was jousting for a fight. Despite his harsh words, the other seemed completely unaffected by them. Similar words had been spoken to Miller, and yet unlike the wimp of a boy, Pride seemed to brush them off quite easily. It seemed that Pride was far too blinded to even bother controlling his mouth. He wondered how much of it was pridefulness or just plain arrogance. Pride seemed self-assured but he found himself having trouble dictating whether or not the red-haired boy actually had the skills to back it up. It wasn't as if he had ever been this close to the boy before now. Percival didn't find much reason to converse with the younger students in his dorm. Especially on a more socially acceptable level. He had an inkling that the majority of society would find burning a boy unacceptable. Though, he found himself hardly caring. He had more important things to worry about.| Outfit |
"It's Rainwood." his tone was cold as he glared at the younger boy.
Percival found himself scoffing quite loudly at the other's claim. Unsure whether the other boy was even being serious. A part of him wanted to call out loudly that he was clearly not that dumb. Though, the other seemed to be on a tangent now. The boy found himself raising a brow studying the other's figure in an attempt to see if he had a wand hidden. Percival was fairly certain the other had been unarmed. Though, it wasn't like he had truly been looking to see if the other was carrying his wand. Especially, with his main focus being stuck on his stupid face.
The boy frowned before glowering at the other. Percival brought his arm out, knocking the book onto the ground in a sweeping motion. "I don't need little words to protect me from you Pride. Nor do I need a wand to do the work for me. Unlike you, it seems. When was the last time you lifted anything heavier than a feather?" he snapped out his voice only slightly hushed. His tone turned cruel as he smirked at the red-haired boy.
Percival's brows furrowed as he watched the boy slowly move closer towards him. Confusion flitted across his facial features as he listened to the boy speak until the other boy said the word 'date'. Percival couldn't tell what emotion was winning the battle for placement across his face. Bafflement, anger, and a small tinge of disgust. He was trying to fight this boy not date him! Percival felt anger coil within his chest as he glowered down at the younger boy.
"How could you misconstrue my actions so horribly Pride? I do not want to date you. he snapped out as if it was the most obvious thing in this world.

"It's Rainwood."
"Ah, the proud Rain Wood family... I wonder the etymology of the family name." It was an American name, the sort of name that is created in the modern era, not passed down from antiquity. "No matter." he dismissed the curiosity of a half-blood's lineage. It was beneath concern.
A bit of a standoff, he would fill the silence with words. Offer him a book for his protection. No books, books are the enemy of the Rainwood clan. The book would get pushed away and topple not particularly silently onto the floor.
"I don't need little words to protect me from you Pride. Nor do I need a wand to do the work for me. Unlike you, it seems. When was the last time you lifted anything heavier than a feather?"
"There is a your mother joke in there isn't there?" Mathias quipped as he shrugged his shoulders and exposed his palms upward. It was rather obvious, Mathias was not a fighter. Some might say he was a lover, but that was not true either. After all, he was only 12. "Was hoping you could do the heavy lifting for me" he gave the elder a cheeky smile and a wink. He was rather easy to read, he wondered at this point how easy he would be to control. Like taking control of a soon to be castrated bull.
Mathias would talk about dates. A dalliance between the pair, how illicit truly. Rainwood did nto seem the type to enjoy talking about romance. Did it make him uncomfortable, reveal some hidden truth or insecurity? How droll.
"How could you misconstrue my actions so horribly Pride? I do not want to date you."
He would look around and then cock his head to the side like a curious bird. "So you brought me to a library for the purpose of a quiet pummeling?" His eyes darted to either side, a glimmer or mirth. "You realize that as soon as I make a noise, every staff member would converge on this space within seconds. You, the older... more powerful student and I... the weak... pitiful and poor first year being bullied so recklessly by--" his eyes would look him up and down. There sure was a lot of him but if the truth he said, he had the features of a semi-pretty girl. He let out a small laugh. -- Never mind.
He would attempt to place a hand on Percival's shoulder (feel free to avoid or slap it away, you can be effective at either) and ask a simple question "was that really the plan?"

Percival's frown grew as the other talked about his name as if he were talking about tea leaves that had gone stale. His brow furrowed as he studied the boy with a harsh look. "As if you have any room to speak, Pride. Were they truly that pressed for a name?" he asked his tone cold. He was not too sure what it was about this red-haired boy in front of him. The other annoyed him greatly, but not in the same way that Miller or Burnett annoyed him. Maybe it was the fact the other walked about with such a pompous attitude. Though, it could be more than likely he just despised the look of the boy's piggish nose. He wondered if the other would be able to breathe through his nose if he started to cry. Maybe the other would be unable to as snot dripped down his sorry face. The thought amused him as much as it irked him. Though, he hardly had any understanding as to why it made him feel that way. Maybe it was the thought of getting the other's snot on his knuckles that annoyed him greatly.
The boy's harsh facial features broke into confusion at the other's question. Breaking his inward spiral of thoughts. "Why would I joke about my own Mother?" he asked his brows furrowing downward. Percival had little understanding as to what motivates the younger boy in order for him to be playing so dangerously with fire. Was the other's bad attempts at flirting merely an act to make him back off? Or was it an attempt to anger him into slipping up? It seemed unlikely that the other actually had a crush on him. Which brings him right back to the beginning.
What were the other's motivations?
Curiosity burned away at the lining of his stomach. Threatening to escape up his throat in an attempt to consume him whole. Percival swallowed thickly, imagining pushing the fire back downward, as he studied the other with furrowed brows. Every second he spent in the younger boy's presence felt as if he were adding gasoline to an already out of control fire. The answers were far too close. Far too tantalizing to just simply ignored. A part of him wanted to just leave before he too was burned alive. Yet, another part of him wanted to force the boy's mind open in order to sate his own curiosity.
Percival listened to the other speak his jaw tightening the more the other continued. Most people did not appreciate practically being called stupid, and he was one of them. Though, the other made a few fair points that could not be ignored. If the other even made a small peep their small hideaway would be swarmed. Percival gritted his teeth glowering down at the boy as he fisted his hands into fists. The boy was so caught up in trying to think of what to say that he did not realize right away that the other was making a move. A sudden pressure on his shoulder caused him to quickly slap the boy's hand. Before, shooting his hand outward to shove at the boy's chest in an attempt to push him away from him. "Maybe it was my plan. I hardly see any reason to explain my reasoning to you, Pride." he snapped in an attempt to save face.

His hand was swatted away.
People were incredibly easy to control when you knew what made them tick. Certainly psychology is far from a perfect science, the subjective statements and evidence one garners from interactions is nebulous at best but there were underlying consistencies. Mathias was an enigma to most, far too confident for his year. He was intelligent but he was not particularly strong. Even the dumbest among them could do the math, Pride was out of his depth.
He would prod and pry, only enhancing the teen's exasperation. The tone, the furrowed brow that curtained his eyes. The short, snapping, defensive phrases. Perhaps the pre-teen had a death wish. A want to be hurt, to be subdued, overpowered by Pervical's strong, manly arms. No, he was no Miller. He would get his jollies elsewhere.
"Just curious," Mathias admitted as Percival attempted to save face in front of his victim. "When was it that you discovered how afraid you are?" Mathias would once again pry once he discovered Rainwood's weakness, his insecurity. A simple one really -- he was not good enough. He never would be good enough. In spite of all of his bosting, his physical power and his ability to subjugate he was not good enough. That was why he forced his will onto others, at least in part. Nothing is truly so dichotomous. "Right now," he pulled Percival back to the present. "You're afraid of me," he pointed out. "You respect me," he continued. "And you hate yourself," he concluded.
He obvious question to ask was -- why? The obvious debate is No without substantiating fact because he was off-balance and Mathias planned to keep him there. "You're getting flustered, stumbling over your words, backing up and getting yourself cornered by someone physically inadequate," yes he was referring to himself. The boy was a realist, he knew his limitations. His mind was far more honed than his adolescent body. His arms too long, awkward. His narrow hips, flat ass. It would be a few years before he grew into his body and he was painfully aware.
"Who cares if you stumble over your words, lack a clever come back or you are intellectually driven to a corner as long as you have someone to redirect." That was what Rainwood lacked, a brain like the Tin Man. That person would be Mathias eventually, in spite of the fact that Percival had not truly thought that far ahead. "I can help you with that," Mathias offered.
An obvious attempt to escape. At least that was how most would see it. Yet no such thinly veiled attempts were coming from Mathias. No, he had bigger plans and they were well worth some momentary discomfort. "You're in a library, bad choice but make the best of a bad choice. think what can you do to me?" The plan was simple here, he had his doubts the meatball in front of him would catch on but even if he did it would behoove him all the same. Just the pace would be off.

Percival glowered at the boy his chest rising and falling in a quick manner. His gaze studied the younger boy as if he were studying a newfound species of bug. Not many people were able to work him up this much. Only Miller had been able to draw out a dark sludge from within the corners of his mind. Miller had been rightfully terrified when the sludge had bubbled up to the top. Seeking for the retribution and pain that it required. Yet here was Pride, pulling and tugging with no concern for his safety or well-being. It concerned himself as much as it drew him into a questioning state. If Pride was scared for his safety he certainly was not showing it. Was his show of confidence completely faux? Or was there something he was not seeing? The boy's frown grew as he studied the boy. He wondered how the other was able to recover so simply from his words. He was unused to this, someone batting him away as if he were nothing more than an annoying fly.| Outfit |
His gaze flicked up towards the boy his brow furrowing as he studied the boy as one would an unknown alien. 'I'm not afraid.' he would have said if he could have gotten the words past the lump that had lodged its way into his throat. His eyes being nothing more than two black holes amidst flesh and bone. As anger swirled in their depths. Percival was not too sure how to respond to the other's sharp words. Words that jabbed at his ego, bleeding like a fresh wound in buttery smooth flesh. "You insult me only to turn about and offer yourself to me?" he asked his voice holding the disbelief. His brows furrowing in confusion as he tried to understand the other boy's motive. "Why do you want to help someone who was planning on hurting you? What are you actually trying to accomplish here, Pride?" he asked mistrust in his tone as he studied the other.

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
"That is simple," Mathias answered as he looked up at the upper classman and relaxed his posture. "The only way to reach the discussion points I want to actually make with you, I needed you to wrestle with your intentions, impulses and inclinations," Mathias claimed. Yes, according to him, this interaction was going to plan. Of course the mental gymnastics to get here were dizzying they always were as the threads of fate could only be manipulated in as so far as he had the power to sway.
He gestured towards a chair, there were plenty here in the library. Mathias took one, no need for the faux aggression. "Let's be real here for a moment... You are mad at me because I had a little fun at Holmwood's expense. I lied," he gave a cheeky smile as he added "and it was funny."[/b][/color] Ultimately what was the harm and what was the gain? Why was Rainwood so invested in Holmwood? "What was the consequences of my lie? I got Miss Jensen there faster, had a chuckle for myself and saved a life," he was referring to Santario Martin who nearly died that day. "Flash had no interest in getting a Professor, ran off on his own into the bowels of hell itself adding to the potential body count and was a snarky dipshit about it," he explained in language that the teen likely knew well. "Beyond a disapproving glance from Miss Jensen, he suffered nothing for his alleged crimes... my lies," he reminded him. Yes, this ultimately had nothing to do with vindication. Had it, Mathias would be bleeding on the floor in some abandoned corner of the school and he knew it.
"You have never seen anything like me because you have never seen someone adequate," a reasonable and unfortunate truth. "People err to think that every learned, intelligent person ends up getting sorted into Ravenclaw but people forget that a cunning idiot would get nowhere," he explained. The weight of his explanation might be lost to Rainwood initially but he did not think the boy was as boundlessly stupid as the galaxy is large. It was a long way of saying, he was a cerebral creature. A thinker, a planner, a plotter. That was his skillset. What set him apart from his peers.
"I wanted to be here, vulnerable to you because I wanted to know something about you--" yes the part that was finally relevant to the half-blood. "You are trying to vindicate your wronged friend" he made quotation marks with his fingers as he said 'friend,' in reference to Flash Holmwood. He never saw the two together less when necessitated, a communality among most of the members of his dorm. They were less friends and more associates, roomates that on occasion erred to call one another friends but they really did not mean it because in practice that would mean spending idle moments with one another but they seemed to prefer grander gestures or nothing at all.
"I have come to a conclusion but I need you to come to the same one, so I have a mental exercise for you. Tell me what you aspire to be, to have, to make, to do..." with infinite possibilities his expectation from Percival is a befuddled 'none' perhaps hidden beneath a fragile veneer of bravado or aggression. "I can say that ambition, much like my namesake, are two things I never lack," he quipped with a casual tone. "With you I see opportunity and unharnessed potential."

Percival frowned as he studied the boy's relaxed posture. He wasn't too sure how he felt about the other subtly admitting he was trying to shift the conversation about till it benefited him. It irked at his prideful side being so outdone by the other's jabbering jowls. The boy glanced towards the pair of seats his brow furrowing as he studied it. Slowly, he slid into the seat. Taking one where he could look directly at Pride. "Why would I be mad at you for playing with Holmwood. I don't particularly care about Holmwood. As I'm sure he feels the same." he said.| Outfit |
"No, Pride. I was mad that you decided to get a Professor of all things. I see no reasoning behind exposing your fellow dormmates. It's a principle really Pride. What happens within our dorm should simply stay there. Even at the expense of another student." he said with a vindicative tone.
Percival blinked at the boy at the other's next words. His mind turning toward a far away promise. Two pinkies latching on to one another as words were spoken in hushed voices. Back then it had seemed childish. A way to reconnect the bonds of his and Hanako's tattered relationship. What child would truly want to burn the world down? For it to become nothing more then a charred mess below his feet. At the time it had seemed like a joke. Yet, here he sat staring at Pride with slightly widened eyes. Still entertaining him despite being able to leave at any moment.
He had always wanted to push against the restrictive bonds that wrapped tightly around him. It had started out so simple and small. Breaking curfew for nothing more then a bit of fun. Percival had trouble pinpointing when it had turned into breaking bones. He felt as if he were suffocating underneath the surface of growing aggression. A want to release the building tension growing in his chest.
Percival licked his dry lips as he considered his words. "I want to burn the world down, Pride. I don't particularly care how I do it." he said his voice hushed as if it were carrying a tremendous weight. Before, those words had been spoken only to Hanako with just as much weight. So long ago, but yet it still rung clearly in the crevices of his mind. He wasn't too sure Pride would receive his words well. They were quite vague as they were descriptive. A want to hurt the world as much as it seemed to hurt him sounded practically wonderful. An eye for an eye. At least that was what his Uncle Terrence would say.
He frowned ever so slightly as he studied the boy's red hair. So akin to the flame of his grandfather's lighter. His gaze moving down towards the boy's two pinpoints for eyes. "I'm not some reckless bull in a china shop, Pride." he muttered brow furrowing as he mulled over the words the other had spoken. Was he truly that reckless that other's were able to pick up on it so easily? It seemed so. The boy bit the inside of his cheek before nodding ever so slightly. "I must admit you are quite ambitious. As frustrating as it can be. Though, most people in our house are." he said.
