Aftermath of Ruinous Ruminations: Main Story Thread for the winning house Feb 2021.

To say the journey from the Ravenclaw tower to the hospital wing was hard would be a huge understatement. Carolyn's leg was on fire and yet it was probably nothing compared to the pain Callie was currently feeling. The raven-haired girl did her best to carry most of her friend's weight but there was only so much she could do with her own injury hindering the process. "Lean on me and let's take it slowly, step by step. I know you can't see much without your glasses so we have to be careful and you have to trust my lead." She told the other girl kindly, trying to sound as reassuring as she possibly could. She was good at staying calm...she could do this.

The rest of the way was spent mostly in silence as Carolyn tried her best to stay focused and keep her classmate safe. She would offer words of support here and there but she also wanted to get to their target location as quickly as possible. Not only for their own sake but also for the others they left behind. And yes... Carolyn was still feeling guilty about that one. What if Robert doesn't make it? A heavy weight settled over her heart. It would be my fault for leaving him there. Perhaps I should have tried again. There was no sense pondering about it now but the girl simply couldn’t help it. “Hold on, we are nearly there,” she informed Callie as they finally reached the doors leading to the infirmary. She could only hope some of the others were following in their footsteps and would arrive shortly after. The first year, she got into trouble, would need medical attention for sure. The last time she had seen her, the little girl had a shadow creature holding onto her back. It didn't matter though, either way she was about to send help to them. After all…that what she promised to do before leaving.

Carolyn swung the door open, caring little about any sleeping residents. She needed the school nurse and she needed him NOW! She could feel sorry about her behaviour later. “Mr. Brumby, please, my friend needs help!” The witch called out desperately as she was settling Callie to the nearest bed. “We were attacked by shadow monsters in the Ravenclaw tower! Some other students are still there!” She expressed her worry immediately after spotting the man. To be fair, she needed tending to as well but she promptly willed the wetness in her eyes away. She could hold it in for a little bit longer. Callie needed his help first for sure. “You are safe now, you’ll be okay.” She muttered under her breath, not sure if her friend was even listening at this point.
OOC: Just a quick sum up of the girls' injuries as described by mod in the story thread:
⚕️Callie is cursed once (stabbed by shadow spider), would be in the throes of agony.
⚕️Carolyn (Eun-ji) was bitten twice on her leg, looks like black freckles that hurt a lot.

To say the journey down from the Ravenclaw tower was a difficult one was one hell of an understatement. Each step brought forth a new kind of pain that Callie was entirely unequipped to handle and she could barely bring herself to remove her hand from her abdomen even if clutching it did nothing to ease the pain. It was safe to say that being turned into a human kebab by a spider wasn't an experience she would try again. Hell being knocked out in a duel was a kinder fate than this brand of agony. At least then she wasn't concious to feel the full impact of everything she was hit with.

Yet in spite of everything she couldn't quite shake the immense guilt of putting Carolyn through the ordeal of actually getting her to the arms of the infirmary. The guilt of leaving the others to fend for themselves with the tenuous promise of fetching help. The loneliness she felt in the absence of Thomas despite knowing full well she didn't want to experience the same sensation she had just been blessed with.

As the pair moved to their destination Callie muttered endless apologies through her teeth and rather stubbornly did her best to carry the majority of her own weight. Each step seemed to loosen Callie's increasingly fragile grip on reality and soon the occasional words of Carolyn was the only thing keeping her feet moving.

Step by step, inch by inch.

That was the only way she'd manage to make it through this thing without turning into a heap on the floor. In theory at least, in practice the girl slipped from Carolyn's grip the second she stepped or rather fell through the door of the infirmary. It took a great deal of strength to even consider making the effort to move to a nearby bed. All she could focus on was the agony, guilt and loneliness. If it wasn't for the assistance of Carolyn she likely would've reduced herself to a meagre heap on the floor after all. As soon as she felt the soft embrace of the bed Callie moved to lay on her side and brought her knees up as close to her chin as she could, all whilst holding in the scream she was so desperate to let out.

"S-Spiders! So many."
She called out through her teeth as Callie let tears slide down her face. "Common room...dorm room..dorm room...Thomas! He's still there, oh god." She pulled her head out from her cuccoon and looked to Carolyn with fear written all over her face. Trying to hide it anymore was a fools errand. "Robert..they need to help Robert first."

It was late evening, usually he was off the clock about the time curfew hit, though he would sometimes stay after, depending on the workload. Most days were straight-forward, simple. Cuts and bruises, broken bones from a Quidditch match. Lots of kids came in for a routine Thick Golden Potion, a thing that had been explained to him like it was par for the course, and kids who had long accepted the strange black ichor sitting impatiently in their veins like a crouched tiger. As unsettling as it was, it wasn't like he knew where they got it, nor was he in any position legally to do anything about it besides give them their treatment.

Today however he was lucky enough to get one of his rare non-healing visits from a fellow adult. Marcus Iwasaki had taken to stopping by every once in a while for a friendly chat, which Kelsey was more than happy to accommodate. Since his shift was almost over, he could concentrate on the conversation and actually get some healthy social interaction while he wrapped up the evening. Shuffling around the last few bits of straggling things left to do, tidying up bottles that needed to be locked up and checking off his daily inventory, there was unmistakable commotion off in the distance. At this point, only very few, if any, students were still wandering the halls, so the echoing sound of discordant footsteps, hushed talking, and distress reached the doors long before the two girls did. It triggered alertness in the otherwise sleepy nurse and his companion bird dad, his movement and attention focused completely as he listened. It was like the distant rumble of thunder-- waiting to hear the next big rumble to confirm that a large storm was heading your way.

When it was closer and more obvious, Kels rallied up the few similarly concerned helpers who hadn't already been dismissed, grabbed his emergency response potions kit, and went to meet the girls as the came in. It was a horror show, for sure, the pain on their faces said everything, despite the words out of their mouths saying even more. One had been helping the other, who collapsed on the nearest bed with dark black puncture wound. They must not have seen their head of house in the darkening wing, but they no doubt saw him quickly leaving out the door the moment it was said that the Ravenclaw tower was under attack. The entire wing suddenly came alive with movement, the smell of sweat and blood the catalyst for a complete change in atmosphere.

Shadow monster. Spiders. That was alarming for sure, but that was Marcus' problem, as it was Doc's before him. Brief connections were being made in Kelsey's thoughts, but they couldn't be fully entertained. What mattered at the moment was the light haired girl on the bed who looked like she was a solid 10/10 on the pain scale. Before anything at all could be done, he had to check on her status, and the wound. If he just started trying to heal it without looking at it, he could end up making things worse. She was impaled, an entry wound on her back being the place that he began looking as she curled up into a ball.

It was quite intense, a more devastating wound than anything he would have expected. Not only that, but it looked shockingly similar to the symptoms the cursed students were suffering from. So... these attacking creatures were cursing students through their skin? It was like a bite, or a stinger? His first instinct was to use the Thick Golden Potion as quickly as possible before the curse could spread further, but it bothered him to jump to answers he'd been told to use, rather than treating it like a new case and investigating it properly. Still, the suffering needed to stop.

Opening up his kit, he'd briefly put a hand on Callie's forehead to gauge her temperature, as well as a miniscule attempt to calm her frayed nerves. He had to cut the shirt to get to the wound on her shoulder, and only gave a brief warning, if she could even still hear right. "Thissis gonna sting." With that, he tipped a tall glass bottle over the wound, which billowed smoke on contact. It would be nothing worse than what she was already feeling, but still seeing. Who knew how contaminated it could have become by that point. An infection was the last thing she needed.

After swiping away the cloud from his face, he looked closely to make sure there hadn't been any kind of reaction. Thankfully, all he saw was a sterile wound. After that, he'd swiftly apply some of his Butterfly Balm to the surrounding area, a magically quick numbing that would make at least half of the agony disappear. The topical medicine wasn't going to make her insides feel any better.

Less great was the now tragically familiar signs of an entry wound marked by necrotic tissue, something that would spread, cause almost nonstop dull pain, require her to join the queue of students who got their mandatory weekly potion. Why were there still more? This was still happening, right now? He didn't have any of the golden potion in his kit, so instead he pulled out a blood red potion along with deep purple potion, standing up to move to the other side of her so she wouldn't have to press her back to the bed.

"What the flap..." He muttered to himself, openly frustrated. He turned to the dark haired girl, who was understandably shaken. Kelsey was not good enough with people to offer her any of the right words to make her feel better, but he was at least good at his job. "Did you get bit too? Stung?"

Regardless of her answer, he would offer the red bottle to the undoubtedly very unhappy Callie. He'd hold it right in front of her face, speaking loudly, "Drink this." Then, he'd look at the other girl, "Make sure she drinks this."

Putting the other potion on the night stand, he'd leave the two girls to go back to the nurses' station where all the cabinets had only moments earlier been locked up. At this point, any unlucky kid who just happened to be mid-treatment was sitting upright and locking eyes with the unraveling tension spreading through the room. It would be added to by the smacking of shoe to tile in a clearly rushed gait. He'd wave his arms at the other nursing interns who had been watching quietly, needing to know what was next.

"Wound cleaning potion, blood replenishing potion, thick golden potion!"

And with that, the healers all clicked into movement, scavenging around the drawers and cabinets preparing for what seemed to be 'a big storm'.

Image posted by the memberFinally, after all the misfortune the girls had to endure it seemed like a little bit of luck might be on their side after all. Carolyn didn’t notice their Head of the House upon entering the room, too busy trying to help Callie on the bed but she did notice him running out the door soon after. Thank god! Hold on everyone, help is coming. The witch let out a relived sigh.“Shh…it’s okay,” she turned back to her distraught classmate. “Don’t worry Callie, Professor Iwasaki is on his way now. He will save Robert and the others for sure,” she informed the girl in hopes of calming her down. She probably didn’t see Marcus so Carolyn wanted to make sure she knew all the others still in the tower would be taken care of now and It was time she focused on her own well-being.

The young Ravenclaw sidestepped a little, not really leaving her friend’s side but allowing the school nurse to do his job. She had to grind her teeth as she did so since the action disturbed her own injuries but she wouldn’t ask for help just yet. Callie clearly needed it more. Carolyn would simply wait her turn. She has spent most of her childhood assisting her parents either at the St. Mungo’s or the muggle hospital in her hometown. She wouldn’t be very useful but she liked to watch and learn whenever her parents allowed her to do so. She wouldn’t be very useful here either but at least she knew how to behave in the situation and she was here to answer any question Mr. Brumby might have had about the injuries. Sometimes doctors needed to know what happened even after inspecting the wound in order to proceed with the treatment. In this case however, Kelsey managed to work well with just her initial information of who or rather WHAT the attacker was. It is not his first time seeing this, she realised but remained standing nearby in case the man needed something later.

At last Carolyn could feel her usual calm self returning. After making sure Callie was being treated and getting the promised help for her classmates in the tower, she no longer felt as panicked as before. With the panic however, went the previously much appreciated adrenaline, meaning her limb was properly on fire now. Or well…at least it felt like it. Was she sweating? The witch couldn’t say for sure but it was definitely getting harder and harder to ignore it. "Did you get bit too? Stung?" At last, something to distract herself. “Bitten, Sir…twice.” She answered politely, showing the two black dots on her leg. She was good at handling the pain but this one was different, she needed help as well. Not to mention, she was a ballerina. She needed to get better if she wanted to practice again. “It was something tiny though…not the big spider that hurt Callie.” Carolyn added quickly, although that much was probably apparent from the size of her injuries. She then briefly looked around to collect her thoughts. It was okay, he knew now... someone would treat her wounds eventually.

It was honestly a relief to see the place filled with so many people. Carolyn was worried that they would find no one here upon their arrival. After all, it was way past the curfew. Luckily, such was not the case today and there were plenty nursing interns around to help. They would be needed for sure. “I will, thank you.” The witch acknowledged her task, allowing the man to go and pass further instructions to his interns. She recognised some of the potions lying around. Her mother used them at work too. Slowly, Carolyn sat down next to Callie, keeping an eye on her and making sure she drank the potion and that she didn’t drop it. She was ready to help her drink it if it looked like she needed help. “Hey, feeling any better?” She asked kindly. She must have been in so much pain but Mr. Brumby did his best and Carolyn didn’t doubt for a second his treatment made a difference. The potion should help with that as well. “You’ll feel better once you drink this,” she then looked at the purple potion on the night stand. “And that one might help you go to sleep…I think. Which you probably should. You need rest in order to heal but..." She paused for a moment. "...if you need anything before that let me know? I’ll try to do my best to help. Others might arrive soon so it will be busy here.” Oh Merlin, please let Robert survive this. She remembered the boy once again, still unable to shake off the feeling of guilt despite bringing Callie here and sending help his way. She held him in her arms for a moment before abandoning him. Sure, he made it clear he didn’t want her help but his state of mind wasn’t exactly in the best place at that very moment so it wasn’t really his fault. If anything, it was hers that she gave up on him so quickly...

OOC note: At the bottom of the post stands some information about the injuries
Samantha and Robert will arrive about 10 minutes after Callie and Carolyn, because they left the common room later and their journey to the hospital wing took longer.
The relieve Samantha had felt when she finally left the common room was replaced with stress. How was she going to get down the stairs? If she would have been alone it would have been easy, but she wasn't alone. The young girl looked at the unconscious boy she had just dragged out of the common room. He wasn't looking to good, the fact that he had been attacked twice and had lay under a blanket of darkness hadn't really done anything good for him.

The adrenaline Samantha felt, had helped her get out of the common room away from the danger. The fact that Aurora had casted leviosa had made Robert lighter and Sam had been able to drag him out of the common room. But none of that was going to help them now. It seemed like everything was working against the first years. One was unconscious, the other had been through 5 attacks and there was nobody to help them get down the stairs.

It would have helped if Robert hadn't been unconscious. Maybe then he would have been able to walk, or maybe help them get down the stairs. What also didn't help was the fact that Samantha was one of the smallest students in Hogwarts. She was not strong at all and had never exercised in her life. It was surprising that she even had been able to get Robert out of the common room in one try. Maybe the adrenaline and Aurora's spell had helped her, but that wasn't important to the young girl. All that mattered was getting Robert and herself to the hospital wing.

After thinking the brunette had made a plan. It was important to get to the hospital wing as fast as possible, she couldn't wait for anybody else, she had to do this alone. She laid Robert down on the ground, so she could hold him in a better way. She knew she couldn't let the boy fall, otherwise he might break his neck and that was something she very much liked to avoid.

She walked down the stairs, dragging Robert with her. After 4 steps she started to hate the placement of the Ravenclaw common room. Why couldn't the founders have place it next to the hospital wing, without stairs? On the 7 step Samantha started to miss the amazing muggle invention, the elevator. After her 11 step she started to regret not exercising, she had no strength and her arms were tired. When she was halfway down the stairs she remember a silly song her dad used to sing to tease her, in particular the last two lines. She though about how true those last lines were from the Dutch song and how much they fitted the situation. If you would translate it to English the last two lines would mean something like: if you fall down the stairs, you are fast downstairs. With every step the idea of trowing Robert down the stairs got more tempting. They would save a lot of time with it, but no, she knew she couldn't.

After she had finally reached the bottom of the stairs Samantha let out a sigh from relief, the hard part was over. Now she only had to drag the boy to the hospital wing, which should have been easier. But for Samantha it wasn't that much better. Yes, physical it was easier, but mentally it wasn't.

Now the young girl didn't have to focus on getting them down the stairs save, her thoughts had free play. Samantha hadn't had the time to proces anything that had happend, but now she could. Her mind went over everything, the giant spider that had attacked Robert leaving a giant wound, the moving shadows that attacked all the students, the darkness that had been on her back, the chaos in the room, the spells that were casted at the spiders. How were the other students doing? The ones that they had left in the common room? Would they be alright? Were they save?

With the adrenaline slowly going away and the pain still there, the girl started to panic. She had to get to the hospital wing, she had to make it. She had to make the older students proud, they had told her to get to the hospital wing, some had asked her, some had threaten her with detention if she wouldn't do it. She had to get her and Robert to safety. She had to follow Carolyn and Callie, who were hopefully already there.

Her blue eyes were filled with tears. She didn't know if she could make it, it was so hard. Robert was a burden, he was heavy for the small girl and he couldn't help her. But Samantha didn't want to leave him behind, she couldn't. He was her responsibly, he couldn't get himself to safety so now she had to do it for him.

Even though the girl was in panic, the fact that she wasn't only responsabel for herself made her keep moving. If she had been alone she would have rolled up into a tiny ball and started crying in the middle of the hallway. But she couldn't, so she kept walking and dragging Robert with her.

There it was! The hosiptal wing! She could she it trough her tears, they were almost there. "We are almost there!" She told the unconscious boy, even though she knew he couldn't hear her. "You are almost save, hang on, we are almost there." Her voice cracked in the middle of her sentence, they were almost there. She could do it, the last meters, she could get them to safety.

She dragged Robert though the door and looked up. "We are here, he needs help, please!" Samantha's were filled with tears, she was exhausted and scared. When the young girl saw the school nurse she was so happy. He was an adult, mr. Brumby would know what to do. She was save now, Robert was save now, her job was done.

Samantha's injuries (140 health):
She was attacked twice by something on her back by something with many legs. Also a swarm would climb her legs, they would start at her ankles and as one bit the other would climb. When she wanted to save Robert, who was under a cloak of darkness, she got attacked again.
From modpost:
"In defiance of logic, she would grab hold of him and she would feel it immediately, this searing, endless pain that extended from her hand to her shoulder as she secured a grip and the darkness would spread from the felled to her."
"Movement was arduous and slow, with every exerting movement she would suffer still even as her arms were washed free of the viscous darkness and she would see it, a dark almost rash on her arms."

Information about the first injuries from Callie and Robert:
In one of the first rounds Samantha observed and saw this (from modpost):
"There were two people injured very very badly. Yet despite the deep wounds, the blood appeared limited. Yet there was an uncanny darkness that seemed to fill the wounds, it seemed out of place. Like when someone's flesh dies. The fringe resembling char, the only likeness the young girl might have seen before but had she lived a life where medicine was very much a part of her daily routine she would have recognized it as necrosis. Death."

Truth be told not much of what was going on around her registered with Callie at this point. All she could really make sense of was the pain and the guilt. Rushed footsteps seemed as insigificant as rain beating against a window pane. Even the presumably reassuring words of Carolyn breezed past her entirely, with only the phrase 'Iwasaki' managing to break past the accidental wall Callie had built.

The sudden touch of the school nurse caused Callie to recoil briefly on instict before entirely submitting to whatever needed to be done. It didn't take a genius to realise that she was in a bad state and at this point she'd take whatever help she could get. Anything to distract from the all encompassing pain but that didn't stop Callie from getting a fright when Kelsey pressed his palm against her forehead. Apart from her occasional recoils Callie barely uttered a sound, instead remaining alarmingly silent as fear gripped the majority of her consciousness. The next few moments barely registered with Callie apart from the sensation of her shirt being cut and a vague warning that something was going to sting. If something did sting Callie barely noticed considering the agony she'd been gifted by an especially kind spider. However before Callie could sink too deeply into spider related thoughts the sensation of some kind of balm being applied around the wound finally registered with the girl, causing an involuntary sigh of relief.

With the pain slowly becoming more manageable, Callie finally started to focus on those around her even if all she could see was a vague assortment of fuzzy outlines without her glasses. Thankfully whatever she was being instructed to drink was held closely to her face, allowing Callie to see whatever she'd been perscribed with some degree of clarity. As soon as it was pressed down to the nightstand and Carolyn started speaking. "Drink? Yes." Callie agreed eventually as she forced herself to sit upright, sparking a hiss of pain through her gritted teeth. "I-I don't have my glasses! Urgh, I need contacts!" Callie lamented as she squinted her eyes in an attempt to hunt for the mysterious potion she'd been assigned. Sadly Callie wasn't an especially careful individual and in her blind hunt for the potion she managed to knock it off the nightstand and right into her companion's lap. "Argh! Where'd it go!" She questioned whilst frantically attempting to search for the cursed object with little success. "Are you alright Carolyn? You are Carolyn..right? Sorry, I can't see much." She gave an apologetic smile to the outline she presumed was her companion all whilst still hunting for the potion. "God, this hurts." She managed after a brief silence with a slight tear starting to drift down her cheek. Everything hurt, she couldn't see very well and the potion continued to elude her grasp.

Today definitely ranked among one of the worst days of Callie's life thus far, even worse than the time she accidentally stepped on a beetle.

IMPORTANT: I have recently changed my character’s name but the IC change is in effect from July so at this time I’m still using the old name, which was Carolyn Hunt.
Image posted by the memberCallie looked slightly better now but Carolyn doubted she felt a massive improvement. The relief was apparent and it was most likely enough to clear the fog in her head but the pain obviously persisted. The potion should help with that. She decided determinedly. Mr. Brumby obviously knew what he was doing. What she or any potion couldn’t help her classmate with however, was the glasses situation. Even if the girl had spare ones in the dorm, there was no way to fetch them now. “Careful,” Carolyn warned the girl when she saw her reaching for the potion, not realising that the warning wouldn’t be helpful to Callie in any way. She couldn’t see and therefore wouldn’t know what she was supposed to be careful about. This mistake landed the raven-haired witch a potion in her lap. Thankfully, it was closed securely so the contents didn’t spill.

“Yes, it’s me and don’t worry, I’m okay.” She reassured the other girl. Truth to be told, her injury had yet to be treated but Callie didn’t need to know that. She would make sure her friend drank the potion and then she would go and ask for assistance herself. “Here, let me help.” Picking up the small bottle from her lap, she carefully opened it and took Callie’s hand gently pressing the potion into it. “Careful, it’s open now. Don’t spill any of it. It will make you feel better.” Carolyn warned the girl, this time making sure to specify her warning. She also wouldn’t let go of the bottle until she was sure Callie held it firmly in her grasp. ”Nevermind the glasses, you will probably go to sleep soon and I will be around so if you need anything, you can just tell me.” She added, trying to ease some of her worries. Now if only the others arrived as well. Carolyn was starting to get REALLY nervous about the Robert situation. She was worried before of course but knowing the boy needed immediate help and any second lost brought him closer to death was a pure torture. It’s taking too long. She was about to get up and ask for a potion for herself when the door finally revealed another pair of survivors.

“Robert…Robert is here…one of the girls too,” she informed Callie with a huge relief. “Make sure to finish that potion. I’ll go help and then come back, okay?” It was clear, the small hero needed help with the boy and she was most likely in pain too. Another wave of guilt washed over Carolyn. She gave up on the boy and ended up making the small girl do all the work. She was also the one to get her involved in the first place. A huge mistake on her part. As she got up, her leg nearly gave up on her. With all that was happening, she almost got used to the burning pain and forgot she wasn’t exactly stable. No matter, help the two and then seek help yourself, she thought as she steadied herself and walked towards the newcomers.

“Good job, you did well…I got you...” Carolyn told the young girl kindly as she relieved her of the burden that was Robert’s weight. She was sure the nurse would be there to take care of him within seconds but she could at least help put the boy in bed before clearing out and letting the professionals do the work. “You should definitely lie down too. Rest, you are safe now.” She paused then. “I’m sorry. I should have told you to get away back there instead of sending you to the danger.” She avoided looking at Robert’s injuries while setting him down (or passing him to any of the staff had they reached her sooner than she did so). Despite her young age, she had seen her fair share of horrible injuries but this was different. She knew the person in question and she failed to save him.

If there were any intern left that wasn’t busy with the two new patients, she would limp towards them afterwards. “I’m sorry…My injury is not as serious as the others but if you are not busy, could you help? At least with the pain?” She showed the person her leg. “I can wait if you can’t help. I just don’t want to neglect anything.”

Noting the fact that the wound was clarified as a bite, and shown the spot on her leg, Kels was unnerved, it really must have been two different creatures. She confirmed, saying the other girl was attacked by a large spider. It didn't make any sense, though, spiders didn't have stingers, they had pedipalps. Not even acromantulas differed in that regard, that that was the only 'giant spider' he had ever heard of. They did have venom, though. He would only nod in acknowledgement before he had finished his spiel and left the bedside.

Over at his desk, it was quickly becoming hectic. There were only a few people left, maybe three of them, scrambling to unlock the doors and get the large collection of golden potion out. No one had any idea how many more kids to expect, was it a few more, or a hundred more? Still, they aty least knew what needed to treat it, for now.

Then, a new pair waddled in looking somehow even worse for the wear. He snapped and whistled at the interns to get them to go help them out (hopefully they would forgive him for how much of a pill he was in emergency situations), while finishing up with what he wanted to grab and taking it with him back into the fray.

Of the new patients, the only boy so far seemed like he had taken a massive brunt of the damage. It was dreadful, the wounds looked even bigger for being on such a small, frail body. He knew he'd have to start working on him right away. First thing was first of course, the antiseptic was critical.

Seeing that another nurse was called back over to the young girls from before, he snapped again to get their attention, "Hey, try an anti-venom, tell me if there's any reaction."

He'd pat the crying girl on the back, letting the interns do the potion regiment he had prescribed.

"Hey! Are you bit?" He'd ask, maybe a bit too loud.
Time has passed, anyone who has exited Ruinous Ruminations after the last mod can now enter the Hospital Wing and be pathetic

Brumby is asking @Samantha Salwis if she is bitten
An intern is giving @Eun-ji Lee Hunt an anti-venom. It will have no effect
@Robert Toukmond is being treated by another intern, he will soon stabilize.

It wasn't much longer before Sylvain made his way down the flights of stairs leading to the Hospital Wing with the other evacuees in tow. Holding the door, he would usher those behind him onward until the majority of the injured, rattled or otherwise incapable had made it to safety. He himself was lucky to have escaped any physical trauma whatsoever. His hands and feet covered in soot, the prefect scooted over to the side of the wing to prevent a traffic jam. He wasn't trained in first aid, nor did he have any practical knowledge of healing like those interns who stood helping Brumby now. No, instead of helping them heal he would stay out of their way where only those who knew what he was doing might stop to investigate, interact and engage.

Choosing a trio of unoccupied chairs meant for those guests giving patients a visit, Sylvain sat in the middlemost seat and flipped Vladimir Athanatos's journal open. He began to read. Becoming somewhat enraptured by the immense amount of information they'd discovered, Sylvain's attention was almost entirely fixated on absorbing the data contained within the book's pages and boy was there a lot of it to fact check. If @Thomas Baines or @Aeron Frey chose this time and place to sit near to him and read over his shoulder he would slow his pace a bit, reading the contents in a hushed whisper so as not to disturb the others but to keep the three of them on track. If they did not, he would copy the journal down for them to read later. Sharing it once the dorms were cleared for occupation once more. One thing was for certain, this wasn't going in any of his prefect reports!

[font=Brush Script MT]January 1, 2018

A new year, a new me. Hogwarts has proven to be an opportunity for me to finally step out from under my father's shadow. His new wife has bought me this journal so that I could document my Hogwarts experience so that all my days might be known. Cryptic but that is nothing new for her.

Honestly, I find my time home awkward with the two of them. I know she is trying but in the end Victoria is not my mom, just a pretty lady that makes my father happy. Not that I can fault my father for moving on, mom has been dead for eleven years but I find it odd that he chose someone that was not like us. He was the one that has always went on about taking care who you pick to be with. I guess that is a part of growing up too, discovering that your parent is a hypocrite.

From now on, I will chronicle my days here.

January 3, 2018

A house elf broke my pocket watch. I don't know what happened but I am crushed.

January 6, 2018

I visited the ladies in the woods on this day. I know I am not supposed to talk with them but they asked me to make a wish for my birthday. It was not my birthday but I played along. I blew out a candle on a piece of cake and they were happy so no harm, no foul. The wish was harmless enough -- friends. What they said after was a bit unsettling, air from your lungs the cost, living force the price. A life for a life.

...freaks.

January 9, 2018

School is terribly slow, we have to keep up with the slowest of learners and I feel that I could be doing so much more with my time. There is a test next week and I am looking forward to seeing the panic in those Gryffindors that show up unprepared! My favorite class is Transfiguration because the subject matter feels challenging even if I find it elementary like most things. I hate to admit it but I also enjoy showing off.

January 15, 2018

A potions test impending. CRACKS KNUCKLES.

January 17, 2018

The exam went well, a perfect score as usual. My father will be satisfied.

Of note, my partner in Potions, Marion some Slytherin did better than I anticipated. A pretty face and a decent brain in a house besides Ravenclaw - who would have thought! She has been my partner since the start of the year, might study with her before the next test.

January 23, 2018

I learned a recipe for making pasta from one of the House Elves, "Cranbrey" I think. All-purpose flour, eggs, olive oil and salt. Yum!

January 29, 2018

Marion's friend Victor joined us for a study session. He is not nearly as smart as her with potions. I spent most of the afternoon teaching him the difference between a dash and a pinch.

February 3, 2018

Victor is an asshole. I can't believe it, he stuffed an open inkwell into my bag, not only destroying my leather sachel that cost more than his family home but also my books. What is his damn problem!

February 4, 2018

I visited the ladies once again. They tried to start a conversation with me, but I did as I was supposed to and never said a word to them. The barrier in place, I learned today that there are two. I must tell my father about this.

February 5, 2018

I was told to find them.

February 6, 2018

I think that it might have been a false alarm, there is only one.

February 10, 2018

Got into a fight with Victor. I should not have drawn my wand but he drew his first! Not that anything happened, a Professor happened upon us before we got to do anything but I am spending the next week in detention because of him.

February 14, 2018

Forgot all about Valentines Day. I sent a few cards out to the pureblood girls in my house, not that I am particularly interested in any of them. Not that any of them would likely be an option for me. Still, as dad would remind me I need to keep up appearances.

February 19, 2018

Had another study session with Marion and Victor. Nothing got done this session, I should have just stayed in my dorm because I knew better. I am not going to bother studying with them again.

February 20,2018

Noggle has been a dear to me. They have been doing a great job transcribing my notes. This is the only place they have not jotted anything down for me.

February 25, 2018

A nice girl confessed to me the other day. Shame she was a half-blood among other things. She seemed nice enough all the same. I let her down gently.

March 3, 2018

Had a great Transfiguration Class -- a few small explosions and we were let out early.

March 6, 2018

Went to the crones in the wood. They insist that they are not alone. They ask for a lock of my hair. I will not share my hair with them. They will not cross the living wood, it will again swallow them whole until the eve of the darkest night releases them once again.

March 9, 2018

The house elves have been acting agitated. I don't know why. I caught one of them rifling through my trunk. I did not report them because I really don't want them to lose their job.

March 15, 2018

Ran into a strange fellow, a part giant of some sort. He told me that he was supposed to check on me and refused to give me any additional information besides. I am sending a letter back home to see if he was sent by my father.

March 17, 2018

My father denies any involvement but the part giant has been lurking. I am getting a bad feeling about him.

March 18, 2018

Me and Victor got into another altercation. The part giant that has been following me all week came out of nowhere and beat him bloody. I feel bad but he got what he deserved.

March 19, 2018

Marion is mad at me.

March 20, 2018

I tried to make nice with Victor but he just made a scene and threw a book at my head.

March 23, 2018

I learned why Victor hates me, his parents work for my dad. I am just going to ignore him, there will be no fixing his animosity.

March 27, 2018

Marion is pretty, it is a shame she is a muggle born. I really want to get to know her better. I am going to ask her to the Blossom Ball.

April 1, 2018

Marion is into me too! I just got a letter from her asking me to meet her at the lake this evening. I am going to skip classes after lunch and borrow something from one of the upperclassmen to really catch her eye.

April 2, 2018

Victor is a damn asshole.

I waited for her at the water's edge until 11. She was a no show. Just as I was about to leave and head back to the dorm someone -Victor- had flippendoed me into the lake. A few of his friends were with him, they had a riot watching me ruin my dormate's suit.

April 3, 2018

How did he know that I was going to ask Marion out? Is he like me? That is impossible, his bloodline would have been better preserved than the mutt line he comes from.

April 5, 2018

Laddi, the house elf has been acting a bit strange. I found them lost in the trophy room, they could not recall where they were or how to return to the kitchens. I brought them to the infirmery.

I forgot to go into the woods. I will do it first thing in the morning!

April 6, 2018

The woods shifted, I have made a grave mistake. A few wild animals might have been skewered on branches, the crones were easy enough to placate. Dad is going to kill me. I don't think they noticed. I am a bit scuffed up but everything is managed.

April 7, 2018

I acquired a fake permission slip from an upper classman, I am going to go to Hogsmeade and buy some supplies to ask Marion to the ball.

April, 12, 2018

I got another letter. HaHa real funny. I am not falling for it twice.

April 13, 2018

I totally fell for it. FML.

April 17, 2018

Another exam, studying for this one on my own. Marion is studying with Victor. I can't stand him. Does he like her?

April 22, 2018

Perfect score. I beat the both of them.

April 24, 2018

There was a report in the paper regarding the theft of a glove and a mask in the Ministry of Magic. A copy of the article from the Daily Prophet was sent to me by owl the other day. I have not heard from my father since the inquiry regarding the part giant fellow that I have not seen since the first time he beat Victor up. Perhaps my father told him to back off, I don't need a bodyguard.

April 25, 2018

I approached Marion today, asked her if she was free on the 20th. There was hesitation in her face, I look a listen even though I should not have. She said -- took him long enough. It took everything I could to keep a straight face, she likes me back! Now I just have to prepare.

April 26, 2018

I got a strange note from "Canbey" which said -- "beware of false sentiments" signed Canbey. Cryptic, I asked them about it and they kicked me out of the kitchen shouting something to do with cold mashed potatoes. I narrowly avoided a flying potato masher.

April 27, 2018
- Blanket
- Wicker Basket
- 2 bottles of pumpkin juice
- 2 sandwhiches
- Candy (which is her favorite? Chocolate?)
- Candles

I got everything that I need.

April 29, 2018

I was going to meet Marion and she was not around. According to some girl with purple hair she had run off with Victor right after breakfast. I cannot believe this guy! I can't believe Marion. I pressed her dormmate for more information, like most Slytherins she was absolutely awful to talk to. I even took a listen and can't say she was better underneath it all either. Apparently he shown up with a wicker basket and a blanket and such and asked her on some sort of lunch date in the woods.

How did he know?

I am not going to let this go, not this time. I am going to find them, not sure what I will do when I find them but they won't ever forget this. I bet that they are laughing at me. That I am some sort of joke. They have no idea who they are dealing with.

April 30, 2018

Something happened. Something real bad happened. I don't know how or why, but somnething happened. I found them because they were screaming. I never saw anything like it, these dark creatures of shadow and nightmare. They were hurt, but I am not even sure what I saw.

I don't know how I knew what to do but I cast Lumos and the darkness faded away but their screams did not. There were these dark marks all over their bodies, hard and black, like a scab but wrong. It took me hours to drag them back to the castle. I considered leaving Victor, I could not stand to hear Marion cry. I hate to admit it but I think I only saved Victor because I liked hearing those terrible noises me made. I just can't ever admit that.

When the sun set, I was afraid that the dark things would come back. They did not. Once inside I got help, the house elves helped me. We went to the Infirmery but on the way something happened. The school was hosting a celebretry not that I was any the wiser. Harry Potter, the 'man who lived' was investigating something when he came upon Dolores Umbridge. He murdered her in cold blood. At least that was what I was told. All I saw was a green flash and heard a scream. Victor and Marion however saw the whole thing.

The next three days there was no sleep for any of us, I never left their bedside even when they were transferred to St. Mungos. It took them three days to find something that would make their screaming stop -- thick golden potion. Everything will be fine now, in a few days they will be fine and when Marion is well enough I will take her to the ball a hero.

May 14, 2018

They are not getting better. The potion is only slowing it down, the pain comes back if they miss a dose. The darkness is spreading under their skin - these strange black branches. I am being questioned by the Ministry. They don't believe Marion and Victor.

May 18, 2018

I am confirming Marion and Victor's story. They would never lie. Their incessant questioning and doubt is weighing on Marion's health.

May 22, 2018

I missed the Blossom Ball but my father made me return to Hogwarts. Victor and Marion are still at St. Mungos. I hope that they will get to come back soon. He said someone checked in and we need to have a conversation, the seals were broken.

May 25, 2018

A care package was sent to Victor and Marion from Hogwarts. The House Elves had sent them my favorite deserts -- Amygdalota and Bougatsa. I Hope they like them.

May 27, 2018

I have not heard anything from Victor and Marion in two days, I hope they are ok.

May 28, 2018

I STILL have not heard anything from Victor and Marion, I hope they are ok.

May 29, 2018

They are back in school but they are behind. They are going to be held back a year unless they can make up a month worth of school work. Apparently Marion was not doing as well in classes besides potions.

June 1, 2018

Study sessions every night, the three of us. Right after dinner Marion and Victor go to the Infirmary and take a thick golden potion and then we spend the rest of the evening in the Library. Victor is not so bad.

June 3, 2018

I had to leave Victor and Marion. The crones have moved camp. Concern. I see footpaths cutting through the woods. I don't think the woods swallow them any longer. No, I know it. They seem rather inert, friendly. Does father truly need to know?

Besides, they told me that they could have them.

June 4, 2018

Confirmed, the woods do not take them. I wonder if it even keeps them at bay. Not that it matters, he is a paranoid old scrooge. They are going to help me help them. Everything will be as my friends call it -- 'Millhouse'. I felt bad leaving them for the evening but they will understand.

June 14, 2018

Their health is not great. Victor and Marion need help walking the stairs. The potion is not enough. I am sending a letter to my father.

June 21, 2018

My father never sent me a reply. The school year is almost over and I can only hope once exams are done that the both of them will spend the summer relaxing and healing. They have mostly caught up on their assignments even if their grades are not particularly exceptional. They said that they can save them, if he won't help me then they will.

July 1, 2018

Train ride home. Finally peace.

July 2, 2018

No peace, I need to spend my summer in London for the trial of Harry Potter. I am not allowed to bring my journal. My father is insisting I have a personal tutor.

After reading Vlad's notes, Sylvain would look into the middle distance quietly as he attempted to disassemble the complex tapestry that had been woven in his mind. He had been too quick to judge Athanatos, that much was clear now. Even from the few times he'd had dealings with him, it was easy enough to see now that this was a particularly precarious situation teeteringly balanced against him. Vlad's precautions had led him to intense paranoia. A paranoia that would easily excuse his unwillingness to share information with others, even those he trusted, as well as serve to elucidate his 'villainous' behavior. This paranoia had most certainly warranted the obfuscation of the evidence, his very own perspective. Evidence which someone had attempted to destroy only a short while ago. Someone who intended to keep the hags' dealings a secret.

When Carolyn took Robert, Samantha was so relieved. When she had been holding Robert, she had been responsible for him. That had been to much for the little girl, she could barely take care of herself. Even though Robert was safe now she was worried she had done something wrong. She had been taking forever to get Robert to the hospital wing, maybe it already was to late for him.

Her worries disappeared when Carolyn told her she did a good job. Samantha looked at the older girl with her teary blue eyes. She nodded, Carolyn was right, she should rest. Somehow Samantha felt safe with Carolyn. The older girl had given her direction when she needed it. Samantha had asked how she could help and Carolyn was the first to give Sam a goal. The young girl was happy that somebody had told her what to do and now looked up to Carolyn, who in Sam's head knew what to do in stressful situations.

"You are sorry?" Samantha was confused, why would she be sorry? Carolyn hadn't done anything wrong, if she hadn't told Samantha to help Robert he would probably be dead right now. All the young girl did was repeat Carolyns words, she was to exhausted to say anything else.

She just wanted her mom, or dad, or even her sister. She wanted a hug, she wanted to feel save in their arms. She wanted to know that everything was going to be fine. She just wanted a hug. Samantha looked at Carolyn, she seemed really nice. Samantha wanted a hug and Carolyn seemed nice, so Samantha gave her a hug. Carolyn would feel the arms of the little girl around her waste. Because of Samantha's length her head barely reached the older's girls chest. While giving the hug Samantha looked down to hide her tears. She didn't say anything, but her hug was a way of showing Carolyn that she didn't have to be sorry for anything. Samantha hoped Carolyn would accept the hug, as the young girl really needed one right now.

A pat on her back, Samantha looked up to see the school nurse. "Hey," His voice sounded so loud. "Are you bit?" The young girl nodded, eager to help. She could cry later, she had to tell the nurse everything. "Well, actually it was more something like stinging." Even though Samantha was still shocked, she couldn't resist correcting the school nurse. The first year was even in serious situations a little know it all.

"I have this on my arm." Samantha rolled up her sleeves and showed her arms who were hurt when she pulled Robert to safety. She hadn't taken a look at her own arms, now was the first time she saw them to. She had know that they were injured as she could feel the pain, but they looked horrible, much worse then she thought. She turned her head away, feeling the tears coming again.

"And... On my back, I think. Maybe twice," She said, still looking away. She remember the pain that she had felt, she just didn't know if she had been attacked twice. "And my legs..." The young girl didn't show her legs or back, if the nurse wanted to see them he could as. But Samantha didn't want to see them herself, afraid for how they looked.

Talking about the attack made the girl made the girl want to cry again, but she wouldn't allow herself. She took a deep breath, she had to keep her tears in for a while. After the nurse got everything he needed she could cry. She could cry all she wanted, but not now.
