Summer camp was in full swing now, it had been a while since he arrived back at Hogwarts. Dale had gotten used to the chaotic days of summer, he had Annie dragging him to every event she went to or just to guide her around. Dale wasn’t upset at her at all, in fact, he was glad she was doing it, it served as a distraction, his day was so taken up that he wasn’t able to think about his mom. But there was nothing to distract him at night, the books he brought with him were already all read by now, and the library wasn’t open yet. The cabin itself did not help him. It wasn’t his first time sleeping in bunks but for some reason, the beds seemed smaller than usual. Often times when he would think back to the times he spent with his mom he could feel the tears come on, he never let them fall though, he didn’t want to make his cabin mates uncomfortable.

Dale loved sneaking out, especially past curfew, the grounds were so much more… empty at night, more serene and calm the wind felt amazing, and the biggest upside, it wasn't bad, and especially right now, it was hard to find a spot alone during the day. But at night he had free reign, as long as he avoided any kind of patrolling prefect or professor. But even if he was caught, which he hasn’t been so far, he knew his parents wouldn't care, in fact his mother would’ve been proud of him!.. If she was still alive, which Dale sadly reminded himself that she wasn’t, it wasn’t parents anymore it was just… parent. Dale sighed, no he couldn’t think about that, not yet.

He eventually found a hill, a nice hill. The elevated area seemed to make the wind even better, but maybe that was a placebo. Dale did one more check around for anybody, he didn’t see anyone around, so it was time to relax. He sat down in the grass, the feel of it felt familiar, sure he had touched grass before now, but the fact of it being at night, and the fact that he was breaking some rules, just made the experience better. Another thing that made the night even better was the starry skies. He still hadn’t gotten over the fact the sheer amount of stars you could see without any kind of artificial lights, astrology was one of his favorite classes for a reason. He remembered right before she died, he talked to his mom a lot about the stars, he remembered how years ago he went stargazing with his family, his mother had spent the week before memorizing the location of all the constellations so she could show Dale where they were. At this point Dale couldn’t stop the tears, there weren't that many and he stopped any kind of sobbing, he didn’t want to get caught right now, especially not when he was crying, he didn’t want his friends seeing him like this much less some random person.
