The Humble Hovels
Luckily for Gabriella, the girl didn't seem to mind much that she was "copying" - well, not that she was copying, but there was no doubt that she had made her shelter very similar to the girl's by accident. The girl seemed friendly enough too, which was good. She introduced herself as Winter Wolfhartz, from Hufflepuff - well really she said pufflehuff, but Gabby supposed this must just be a slip of the tongue or a bad joke - and the Ravenclaw introduced herself in return. "I'm Gabriella," she said. "You can call me Gabby though, if you like."
For a while, Gabriella wondered if she should be friendly and ask Winter some questions. She seemed a nice girl, and apart from Atlas she didn't know any Hufflepuffs. But then she had come down here to be alone, and smalltalk had never really been her thing. (Do I really care what you did last weekend? No, but guess what, I'm going to ask you anyway!) Instead she decided to get on with making her own shelter - and more importantly, making a SIGN for the outside - and she would talk to Winter if she decided to talk to her.
The Ravenclaw began to collect more sticks, using shorter sticks to fashion a little opening in the front of the tent. This, at least, deviated from Winter's design. Once she had collected all the sticks she needed, she found a bundle of vines and began weaving them in and out of the sticks, to bind them together. "Take whatever you need," Winter said. "Competition or not, if this was a real test teamwork is the best defence!"
True, thought Gabriella, irritably, but this isn't a real test, is it?
Sure, her thoughts on this activity had greatly fluctuated while she had been here. At first, she had wanted to create a great survival tent and pretend she was really lost in the wilderness. Then she had been taken up in the thrill of possibly, *possibly* making a sign afterwards. And now she just wanted to do whatever, as long as she was allowed to be alone. But Winter's offer was friendly and helpful, so Gabriella smiled. "Thanks," she said, and because she felt she hadn't been the most accommodating she added, "you're really nice, by the way."
Gabriella, however, didn't actually need any of Winter's supplies, so continued in systematically weaving her vines around the logs at three key points - the bottom, the middle, and the top. Then, she shook the shelter a little, and when she decided it still wasn't sturdy enough she decided to add more lengths of twine.
"Oh yeah," said Winter, "looks don't matter much now, you can always decorate later! If you place moss or debris where there are openings it would help keep the heat in better!"
"Yeah, thanks," replied Gabby. "I was actually going to stick moss all along the inside walls, to trap in as much heat as I could. I'm just tying all the logs together right now." This wasn't strictly true - she hadn't been planning to do anything to trap the heat in - but it was a good idea of Winter's, and Gabriella had come up with a way to improve it.
"Oh, and good luck! I'm sure you have what it takes to win!"
By this point, Gabriella was actually getting rather cross with Winter's constant interruptions, although she would never dream of showing it. Despite how she felt today, she was nice, and she didn't want to end up getting into another spat like the one she had had with Tory, that ended up in the two girls becoming enemies for life. So, instead of lashing out at Winter, she murmured her thanks. "Thank you," she said, quietly. "I'm sure you'll win though. Yours is great."Word count: 643

Santario was used to having tarps to cover things up to protect them from the elements, but here there was none of that. Maybe if they made enough of the ropes, they could layer up and secure enough branches to the side that it would suffice. “I think I have an idea, but we’ll do it one step at a time first. Best not to get ahead of ourselves.” Her nimble fingers moved quickly; braiding was an action she was very used to doing, though, with hair, the idea was just the same.Open to Interactions
“A captain, yes, one of the three.” Dmitri probably would have killed her if she had not clarified. She was a co-captain which in her eyes meant all the captains were on equal footing to help each other out and the team equally. She knew Dmitri did not see it that way. Regardless of him and Santario being chosen simultaneously, he felt superior, which came as a surprise to literally nobody who knew him.
“We do three duel stages a year between all of the houses. All duels are two versus two, with one of the captains overseeing the duel along with a medical team, usually older students who volunteer with the nurse. We have a specific set of spells that can be used, and we go until one team stands. Your team gets house points if they win, and probably the better reward, in my opinion, is the practical skill you get. You can practice against dummies in a classroom all day long. It does not compare to being against a team having to anticipate their next action while also trying to stay in tune with your partner.”
It should be no surprise that Santario would highly recommend it over Quidditch and Broom racing if asked. Unless you wanted to be a professional quidditch player, it really did not benefit you in the long wrong. Broom racing was a little different since you had to avoid people, things, and obstacles, but what was the chance you would get into a highspeed chase over fighting someone?
She would continue to braid the available vines that she had already collected, and when he asked San if she wanted anything else besides more vines, she nodded. “See if you can find some evergreen boughs, but if not, do not stress. We’ll figure out something else. I’m going to start digging the holes to brace the three main branches.” As the boy walked away, Santario would stand up and grab the three branches she already had next to her, bracing them against the tree in a teepee-like structure, pushing them into the ground to show where she needed to dig in a little.
Once she knew where her spots were, she would move the branches back out of the way and start digging in small holes with her hands.

Xander took a seat on the ground as he tried to figure out the next problem to this shelter building contest, how to keep everything together. He thought it over, he would weave leaves together into a rope, but that would take far too long, and a lot of leaves. Maybe, try and find some vines out in the woods to tie all the branches and logs he was going to be using, yes that was possible, he had thought to himself. He saw a movie once, where a man was stranded on a island, and to tie things up, he peeled the bark off of certain trees, but Xander didn’t think those kind of trees would be here, those were more of a tropical kinda tree, rather then a tree in the woods in Scotland.
Xander then got up off the ground and dusted himself off a bit, when someone started to speak to him. He turned around and saw that it was Cosmo, one of the people he had met on his way here to camp. He gave her a smile, when he realised it was her. “Oh hey, Cosmo, how are you?” He asked. “Good to see you again too.” He added. He looked down at his rock outline and then at the pieces of wood he had dragged out of the forest surrounding them. “Yea, they were super heavy. Almost didn’t think I was gonna be able to get them all over here.” He said as he placed his foot on one of them and stretched a bit.
He looked back at Cosmo. “You gonna take part in this contest too?” He asked her. “If you want you can join me.” He said with a smirk. “God knows I could use the help. Especially with trying to figure out a way to keep all the wood together and not collapse once I get inside of it.” He said with a slight chuckle in his voice. “I was thinking of possibly getting vines or roots or something like that and using that as a rope or string type of material.” He informed her. “What do you think of that?” He asked her, trying to get her opinions of what to do.

@Santario Martin
We go until one team stands.
A fine way to phrase it. A funny thing, linguistics, how much one could tell about a person from the words they used. From the way she framed victory from the perspective of the victor, Isaac surmised that Santario had not lost for a very long time. Or perhaps she was just being tactful so as not to scare him with what being on the losing end was like. It was okay, though. He already knew.
They drool when they’re unconscious. Perhaps not the best detail to share. “Is it an important practical skill to have?” he went with that instead, bouncing off of what she had said with a cheeky smile. “Do you often find yourself defending your family from rogue wizards and monsters?” He hadn’t meant it seriously. After all, they were just kids.
His untroubled gaze wandered towards the supply piles in the distance as he soon found his hands empty. Giving his cabinmate an apologetic smile, he rose and went to get more vines and the evergreen boughs she had requested. It didn’t take him long to find both, and he swiftly returned so they could pick up right where they had left off - thank goodness for his mother’s love for gardening that he even knew what plant she was referring to.
Isaac lowered the great stack of branches held firmly against his broad chest, small bristle-like leaves trembling in the summer heat. When he thought about it, they reminded him of the branches of a Christmas tree. They even had a few loose hanging pinecones to go with it.
Then, he knelt next to one of the marked holes that was supposed to be dug out. He hesitated for a moment, searching around for a tool he could use. He was visibly discomforted by the thought of what he was about to do, but eventually he got on with it. His naturally large hands ploughed into the dirt like a shovel, and he had no trouble ripping out large chunks of earth with them alone.
As they worked, he jokingly asked another question, “No one’s died on the campus ever since the Second Wizarding War, right?”

The Gryffindor had heard of the activity and had been looking forward to it all evening to the point of barely being able to fall asleep. What an opportunity to venture into the edges of the forbidden forest in order to build a couple of stick houses. It sounded fantastic and like a bunch of fun would occur. Now that it was time, he had been carrying Tiger on one of his arms, balancing the feline comfortably as he made his way to the edge of the forest where from afar he could already see a bunch of the students as well as the familiar figure of one of the staff members. "Good morning, Mister Eliseo!", he chirped with the energy only a morning person could bring up and gave the man in question a toothy grin. "Let's hope those structures will hold up better against weather than the family did," he elongated his greetings to the man, sure he would catch the hint of Alan talking about the couple of snowmen the two of them had built around the man's cabin to protect him. Though apparently they hadn't protected themselves against the approaching spring that had made them melt away into small puddles, decorated by only a few carrots.
He would also spy out San, who seemed so focused on digging out a hole out the ground with her bare hands, that he chuckled as he carefully snuck up on her. He had been very careful not to tread on any branches or dry leaves as to make no noise as he approached her. A grin ever so steady on his face as he suddenly dropped down next to her and hugged her from her side, silly laughter erupting from him. "You ought to be more aware of your surroundings in this forest," he wheezed in between laughter as he tried to force himself to calm down. Possibly others would have known it to be not so smart to spook San, who had been known for quick duelling reflexes, but the older boy just couldn't help but seize the opportunity. Finally as he calmed down he would inspect the hole the girl was digging and tilted his head curiously, "What kind of shelter is on your mind?" he would ask her, still grinning. Tiger in the meantime had jumped off his arm and found a sitting place ona nearby thick branch that had been on the forest floors.

Santario did not look at him when he asked his question. A question that hit so close to home, and she did not know how to answer. Scaring the kid was a bad idea, so she smiled; Hogwarts was a place where you learned quickly whether you wanted to or not. “I think it is always important to expect the unexpected.” A neutral but wise statement and one soon proven to be ironic.Open to Interactions
She continued to dig her first hole when Issac came back, and she looked up. “Those are perfect! I think they would keep out the wind.” Looking back down, she would focus on her task at hand when Isaac delivered his next question. The answer to his question was yes, someone had, but she would not have an opportunity to answer him as arms wrapped around her. A deep gasp emitted from her lips, one hand going to the pocket where her wand was kept, but she stopped short. A familiar scent of earth and fruit and the sound of his laughter. “ALAN!” She yelled his name playfully before breaking out into giggles and shaking her head at him.
“Alan, this is Isaac. He is a new incoming first year and in my cabin. Isaac meet Alan Vanes, fifth-year Gryffindor Prefect, and a butt head.” She stuck her tongue out at Alan. If anyone could bring out her very rare playful side, it was him. When asked about the shelter, San looked back up at her work. “Kinda like a tee-pee shape braced against this tree. We’ve braided some vines to use as rope and now are just making small holes to brace the three main branches in before tying them to the tree. Then was going to figure out how to secure these evergreen boughs as the side to brace against the wind. It seems good in theory; I’m just not sure about the execution. My mom and I did something similar to this for our gardens through winter but we hard tarp and metal.” San reached up and scratched the side of her cheek, leaving an effective dirt smudge there. “Want to help?”

Winter had a bad habit of being way too nice, all the way to the point she would gives bullies sympathy, making multiple excuses for things things like 'they probably have trouble at home' or 'well they must have a good reason for what they did there's a reason for everything!'. Besides being extremely nice, after a few interactions with a fellow friend from Slytherin, Winter learned its great to be nice but you can be mean if its necessary. But thankfully this wasn't one of those cases where it would be needed to return anger, Gabriella or otherwise named Gabby would be actually quite nice in return to winters gestures.
"Oh alright! Its a pleasure to meet you gabby" she responded with a smile, her eyes focusing on her shelter again. Sure everyone came here to be alone, well not EVERYONE, there were a few teams scattered around the area. It made her wonder if she should have brought Xeno to help, then again he was probably busy with his other friends. The idea of a team sounded quite helpful and honestly fun, the imagination of ones mind blended with that of another, the possibilities of the outcome are endless!
She would get a few good sized sticks, both medium in height and width, slicing them quite thinly with the fashioned blade and a rock. Each time the rock would hit the top of the blade, it would slice down the stick further. Sure winter had messed up a few times, but what is trying without mistakes? She continued to make thin slices out of the sticks before she had placed her items on display for gabby to use as she needed.
Winter had her mind set on building, she had no care for winning, nor caring if this were a real test. She had come to let her mind run wild, and to see what she could come up with out of only items around her person. And with that said, she sat back down, testing the flexibility of the thin wood slices, weaving them in and out of each other to create a door. Getting up, she planted another stick Into the ground, right by the opening ( entrance ) was located, using the string to tie her door to the stick. It had opened and closed fine, but that wasn't good enough for winter ( someone who has a bad tendency of leaving doors open ) so she had weaved a basket, and placed rocks in it, tying it to the door so that each time it opens, it closes on its own.
Gabby had thanked winter as she responded with "Its really not a problem" she smiled once more, the Ravenclaw almost complementing her nice personality "Yea.. sometimes i think i'm a little too nice..." her voice getting lower as she spoke more, her smile slowly turning into a frown. She shook her head as if to clear the thoughts from her mind, and once again the smile came to her face, as if it had never left. After had given gabby some advice she seemed to pull a quick card, 'lining the inside of her shelter with moss' winter furrowed her eyebrows, you were supposed to places moss on the outside for both rain protection and heat- but she wasn't going to correct her just yet. She could do that later on in attempt to help.
It was obvious by gabbys body movements and aura, she was getting a bit angry at winter, maybe for interrupting so much? Winter wasn't phased though considering the fellow witch was still keeping her poker face, and being nice either way. A thought crossed winters mind, yes a great thought. In return of the compliment winter sent out, she got one straight back from gabby, along with a quiet thanks. Winter had smiled bigger when told she could win as she looked at gabby, tilting her head slightly

“I think it is always important to expect the unexpected.”
To that, he nodded vigorously. From their short interaction alone, he was beginning to enjoy talking to Santario Martin. She appeared to be the kind of person who put no small amount of thought into her words, whereas many a time in his personal endeavours he had encountered people who opened their mouths before using their brains. To a similar degree, he felt that he was that kind of spontaneous individual who acted quickly, but often foolhardily. It was nice to meet someone smart.
As they finished digging the last of the three holes, he spotted a flash of red hair in the corner of his eye. Then, the red hair took the shape of a boy as it enveloped Santario.

Wait, a prefect? Did that mean he had to greet him?
Isaac’s eyes flared with panic and he made an immediate effort to stop slouching. First, Slytherin Dueling Captain and now Gryffindor Prefect. Alan was not nearly as tall as Vladimir, but his age, size, and position of power made him a commanding figure to the younger boy, even if he had burst onto the scene in giggles and laughter. Isaac’s reply to him was nervous and rigid as he wiped the sweat off his brow and moved his fringe neatly to the side.
“Good morning, sir!” he exclaimed loudly and formally. His right hand twitched as he resisted the urge to drop all his twigs and salute the prefect. It would’ve been a comical moment if not for the dread in his eyes and the reddened fluster of his cheeks as he venerated fifteen year-old Alan Vanes with a horrifying look of seriousness.

He couldn't help the laughter as he grinned at both her and the young student, “I think it is always important to expect the unexpected.”, he mocked the sentence he had caught her say as he snuck up on her and now it was his turn to stick out his tongue at her. He gasped at her with exaggerated fashion when she playfully insulted him, before he formally nodded at Isaac with a lighthearted smile and held out his hand for the other boy to shake. "Nice to meet you, just call me Alan and don't listen to San! Do you know what house you want to get sorted in?" he asked the boy curiously and a little bit excited. Would they get a new cub?
He liked the camp alone due to the fact that the pre-schoolers could get a sense of their surroundings and got introduce to all kind of years and houses through the cabins. Alan was pleased to know that San had taken one of them under her wing as it seemed. "Are you enjoying yourself here?" He added with a warm smile after they had finished the handshake (if Isaac wanted to) and pointed at his cat. "That's Tiger, he is like an icon here, you'll probably see him around a lot throughout the years," he introduced the feline with a chuckle.
As Santario was explaining her build he nodded as he could envision her ideas, "Perhaps you could get your hands on some tree sap and make cords with thin branches or plants," he suggested, hoping to help out a little. "I'll probably go build something over there as far as Eliseo let's us in, maybe a few shelters for creatures that ventured too far toward the forest edges," he chirped friendly, his all present aura of calm surrounded him and would have a calming impact on most minds.

“Oh hush you” Was all that she could retort with as he mocked her. Though her eyes widened a little at Isaac’s reaction. “Don’t listen to me?” A hand placed over her heart in mock despair. “You wound me, dear lion brother, you wound me.” When Tiger was Mention Santario’s eyes lit up, and she reached out her hand, rubbing together her thumb and index finger to try and catch his attention. “Oh yes, what house would you like to be in?” It was a good question.Open to Interactions
If Tiger came to her, San would give him gentle pets. Even if he did not come over, she would ask, “How is the handsome, fierce boy today? I bet he’s going to have fun.” Trying to collect sap had not really been a thought, but it could help to stick the boughs down and give it some more structure as well. Though she was unsure if acquiring as much sap as she had in mind was feasible or best for the trees around them.
“Animal shelters are a beautiful idea, Alan! Colder temperatures are on the way.” As much as she figured the things that lurked in the forests could shelter themselves, she loved the way that Alan cared for creatures. It was her favorite thing about him, how much he really cared, and in a way, she envied him for it.
