Cosmo heaved her luggage through the front door with a grunt. It wasn't easy carrying a trunk and a rapidly growing kitten, so by the time she arrived at the unicorn cabin she was thoroughly tired. With a sigh of relief she turned and took in what would be her home for the next month. It was very different from all of the other cabins she had peeked into as her group passed them, and a smile began to form as each new bright feature popped out. Next her gaze raked over the other students already in her cabin; two boys she didn't know were talking together, and four girls were chattering happily. Two of them Cosmo hadn't met, but she noticed that Lavinia, one of Haley's friends, was there, and Aurora from the train station earlier.

She quickly dragged her belongings into an empty room, and left them still unpacked, eager not to miss any fun. Once she had returned, this time only holding Emerald in her arms, Cosmo settled down and slipped herself into a break in the conversation.

"Hi again Aurora! And I don't know if you remember me Lavinia but I was at Haley's birthday party last year," she grinned before turning to the other two "I don't know either of you though, so hello! My name is Cosmo, Hogwarts,"

Emerald had been sitting quietly in Cosmo's lap, but now that she was getting more comfortable in her surroundings she leapt softly to the floor and padded towards Lucifer. Cosmo watched with interest as her silver tabby approached the silver siberian. She spoke next to Aurora.

"How old is your kitten? This is Emerald, she's just over six months," a fond smile found its way onto her face, she loved talking to other people about Emerald, and she loved hearing others talk about their pets. She hoped that Emerald could be friends with Aurora's cat, it would certainly keep the energetic kitten out of trouble.

Luckily for Gabriella, Aurora recognised her, although admittedly only as a first-string beater. "Hi," she grinned. "You're the second-string beater, right? I'm sure you'd do a much better job at it than me, though. In that last match, I was - well, I'm sure you saw..." She grimaced at Aurora, hoping the other girl had missed her tumbling off her broom to the ground beneath. "I wanted to be a chaser," she said, by way of explanation, "but it was full, and I saw that there were places going for beater so I thought, you know, why not? I'm sure I'll be far more used to it by next year. WE'RE GONNA KILL YOU, OTHER HOUSES!" she exclaimed, a little too loudly.

Just then, another girl from the quidditch team walked in - one of the chasers, Lavovia or something. She introduced herself as Lavinia. Ah, yes, Gabby thought to herself, I should have known Lavovia wasn't a name. "Hi," she said to Lavinia, with a small smile, before turning her attention to Aurora's cat, who was currently lolling playfully about the floor.

The next person to enter was a girl Gabriella had never come across before, but who introduced herself as Cosmo from Hogwarts. Evidently, she already knew Aurora and Lavinia. "Hi, Cosmo," grinned Gabriella, who after a terrible summer so far was now eager to make friends. "I'm Gabriella, also from Hogwarts - you can call me Gabby though. It's really great to meet you!"

Cosmo began talking to Aurora about the cat, and Gabriella's mind was left free to wander about the cabin. It really was, as Lavinia had said, really something, and the Ravenclaw was yet to decide whether she liked it or not. At least her cabinmates were nice, which was something. And they had nice cats, which was something else. She grinned, and for that moment she was perfectly content with the world.

Milena blinked. Heaven? That … no. If anything it was hell. But Aurora was right, it was definitely neither dull nor boring and so she agreed: “Hm, yes. Dull and boring are really not the words I would use.”

With her calling the cabin heaven and naming her cat after the devil, Milena idly wondered if Aurora was religious but she discarded that thought immediately after. It probably had nothing to do with such a thing. Mentions of either (And exclamations of either, too) were part of, what was it again?, mainroa-, no, mainstream media? Yes, that was the term bandied around in that one book she’d gotten on their last excursion into the Muggle world. (She had bought the book in the hopes that it would explain some of the evolving concepts and progress and whatnot in the Muggle world. The book had failed to deliver. It had been a rant about something … she’d read the book twice and still could not make heads or tails of it.)

Milena was about to inquire about the pets at Hogwarts – how where they handled? – but second girl arrived before she had the chance. She wasn’t quite sure how the new girl hadn’t seen her, it wasn’t as if she’d been hiding or something but then again people could have tunnel vision, especially when it came to their friends, right? And it seemed the two girls were acquainted, at least. On the other hand Aurora did not seem to know the second girl’s name. No matter. “Hello. I’m Milena Sergejevna Orlova, Durmstrang student. Milena is fine though. It is nice to meet you, too.”, Milena introduced herself with a polite smile and shook Gabriella’s – Gabby’s? – hand.

Quidditch players, huh? Milena couldn’t help but wonder what exactly had happened at the game they were talking about. Had Gabriella accidentally hit a fellow team member with a bludger?

It seemed she had been right Hogwarts students were more numerous, she noted as another girl joined them and a third shortly thereafter. Was it common here to only introduce themselves with their first name? It seemed terribly informal which probably meant that they were not daughters of Pure-Blood families. Introducing oneself while omitting their family name – she couldn’t imagine that happening in Society. Maybe she should offer a more informal introduction as well? She didn’t think she could drop her family name completely but she could leave out her Отчество*, even if she was more used to be called Milena Sergejevna than Milena Orlova. But since they were all using only first names or nicknames… “Hello, It is nice to meet you both. I’m Milena Orlova. Durmstrang. Call me Milena. ”, she offered while smiling politely.

And there was a second cat even! Hogwarts was absolutely big on pets. She had to admit she was curious to see if they would get along or not. (And if there were any cat shenanigans in their future.)

The first time you hear a joke, it’s funny. The second time, it might be if you had forgotten it. But when the same joke is repeated over and over, it quickly looses it’s funny factor. By around the 100th time you hear a joke, you want to scream and stuff your head in the ground just to avoid hearing it again. There tends to be some sort of running joke with anyone, either something about their appearance, something funny that happened a long time ago, an inside joke, whatever it is, there’s usually something to tease any given person about. Over time, though, it gets forgotten, at least, for some people. For Iris, the running joke never fades… ever. The name Iris is not only for an Ilvermorney fourth year, but also of an ancient Goddess of Rainbows. So naturally, at some point someone thought it would be funny to make a joke about it. The joke never faded.

Iris was constantly teased about her name. Sarcastic birthday cards written in colorful pens, owls delivering letters written on multicolored paper, her school robes painted over with rainbow paint, various school supplies doused in bright colors of paint. For several years Iris had been a good sport about it, she’d laugh or brush it off, maybe make a joke at her own sake or pretend nothing happened. Recently though, with her life the epitome of a dumpster fire, she had given up being a good sport about it. Her reaction backed off the well meaning pranks and brought on the rude teasing ones but finally the number of pranks started to dwindle.

That is until her summer camp assignment. Iris had finally escaped the grips of her grandmother to enjoy a few weeks at Hogwarts summer camp only to find another prank. There was no feasible way it was unintentional. She ended up in the unicorn cabin. Iris had nothing against unicorns, but this cabin was decked out in the brightest, most annoying colors. Everything was a technicolor hell. It was like some tie-dyed clowns barfed all over the room, leaving everything a different abrasive color.

Iris dragged her luggage to the cabin door, swung it open and drug the two huge suitcases in, took a look inside the cabin and nearly lost it. “WHO’S BRIGHT IDEA WAS THIS?

NO REALLY, I’D LOVE TO KNOW,” Iris’ voice was loud and thick with sarcasm. “IRIS. RAINBOWS. I GET IT. SO FUNNY,” Iris stood for a few moments waiting for someone to address her and took a better look at the nightmare of a cabin. It wasn’t even like a normal cabin set up, there were tunnels that led from one place to the next. It was absurd. A total joke. “Fine, whatever,” Iris finally said, having at least let out a bit of her pent up energy in her big exclamation.

Iris managed to get her luggage into a room, a small room with a big bed. The bed with cloud pillows. Iris crammed her bags in the closet along with the stupid cloud pillows, rubbing her eyes from the massive amounts of just annoying color before returning to the main room. The main room that was less of a main room than where everyone was at the moment---which she had to climb through a tunnel to get to. Sure, Iris was glad to be away from the preppy stuffy wannabe pureblood drama she’d been facing before coming here but this cabin was just an insult to everything.

Iris sulked into a nook in the wall near where everyone else was congregating and glowered at the brightness of the cabin. Iris couldn’t believe she was going to be stuck here the entire duration of camp. What a lame joke.

A quick adjustment of the black leather travel bag was made, his hand shifting up to adjust the strap that was gripped to his likewise black jacket's shoulder. The train trip was quite uneventful for him, quiet, which allowed him to go through the contents of his bag to adjust the shifting wood pieces that'd allow him to pursue his hobbies while still attending the camp for the summer. After hearing that his best friend Rafa was not going to be joining this year, he was slightly disappointed, but still, decided it was best to attend with the rest of his fellow students.

There was a clear path for the students to walk, the area where they'd be assigned cabins, where the professors lingered and watched over the throng of individuals that were socializing, an eager buzz of excitement rumbling among them. Personally, he was hoping that the cabin assortment would have been much more like the previous summer, where he'd been placed with a gathering of friends, but, he hadn't a clue at this time that other schools students would also be conjoined with the students of Hogwarts. What an annoyance that would be to the Irish youth.

The freehand he had that didn't grip the strap of his leather bag would shift to adjust his light grey, thin material hoodie. As always, he had a sense of his own style that was at times a stark contrast to the vast majority of his peers; they seemed to have no style to him and caused him to have a slight mental judgemental phase whenever he met a new person. As always, his wand, his greatest companion was close, the hilt sticking from the waistband of his white-washed blue jeans; the ivory-white aspen wood wand would stay near to him at all times.

Dancing his way through the crowded area to where they were showing the cabin assignments, he'd approach where he could find his name upon the lists and found a shocking revelation to the name of his cabin, 'Unicorn', or whatever it was called. This caused a sneer to pull across his facial features for a moment until a stray hair fell down across his face which he'd promptly blow away with a quick breath. Double-checking to see that it was indeed his name next to the cabin list, he'd roll those golden eyes and turn to make his way towards the cabin's direction, being led by the words he overheard of others. It was awe-inspiring what you could learn just by listening, staying quiet, and observing your surroundings.

It wasn't long before he approached the cabin that he was designated to and honestly he was ready to just turn around and head right back towards the train; if that was even an option. Maybe he could make up something, a family emergency? Irritable bowel syndrome? Anything to get him away from the obvious screech of noise of a foreign accent that clearly drifted out of the entrance of the cabin. After a moment of thought though, he did realize something, there were no options. Realization of this fact made him enter the cabin behind some girl who immediately started yelling, clearly an American.

When he crossed the threshold of the cabin, he'd stop, looking around for a moment at the others and not recognizing any of them; hell, he wouldn't have cared if he did and would have treated them all the same regardless, with quiet disdain. The best part about this cabin that he could find as he made his way through the hall of it was that each of the students seemed to have their own private room; this would be a first for Zykeal. The boy had grown up relatively poor and even at Hogwarts, he wasn't able to escape the necessity of dorm life. As such, he found one of the rooms closer to the entrance of the cabin so that he'd be able to quickly come and go as he pleased.

Maneuvering his way into the room, he'd shoulder off his leather bag and set it up on the top of the bed where he'd be able to quickly undo the straps that held the bag together. Sifting through it, he'd go ahead and fetch out a long cylindrically shaped piece of wood that he had collected previously, it had barely fit into his bag and was wrapped in newspaper so that its shedding wouldn't dirty the rest of the contents of the bag. Along with the piece of wood, he'd fetch his carving knife and quickly stow it inside the pocket of his jacket so that no one saw it.

Hobby supplies acquired, he'd go ahead to quickly reseal the bag that was opened and make his way out of the room. Along the way, he'd give quick looks into the open doorways of other rooms to see whom the inhabitants of them would be, curiosity, but, also sizing up the cabin-mates to see if there were any potential threats among them; he noted none of interest. This would lead him to leave straight out front from the cabin's entrance where he would turn directly to the side of the front, cabin itself had a porch to which he'd make his way towards the end of it so that he could sit upon the wooden ledge of it.

This is where the young Gryffindor would spend most of his time while at the summer camp, tending to the piece of wood and shaping it with his carving knife into something that resembled a faux-wand. It was his ambition in life to become a wandmaker, to travel the world, finding the rarest quality of items to test new wand creations. Zykeal knew that his own wand did not feel betrayed by this, it was his wand and the wand knew that for a fact; it served him loyally and his loyalty towards it was obvious. The soft chips could be heard if there wasn't so much noise going on, maybe in the evening it'd be heard, but for now, he'd take the carving blade out of the pocket of his jacket and start to etch out slivers of the piece of wood so that it started to slowly resemble, in shape at least, a wand.

The fourth, nearly fifth year had arrived with his trunk at the camp, with his feline companion trailing behind him, careful not to step in front of any walking people. Alan however, after having been assigned to the Unicorn cabin, was not exactly sure how he felt about it. He thought that the phoenix cabin would have sounded a lot more magnificent but he wasn't disappointed by the Unicorn cabin in the slightest. He was curious about who he would be sharing the cabin with and whether he knew any of them yet.

As he entered, he recognized a few faces, well mostly two to be specific, but he was sure he would get to know the rest of the students as well. He wondered how many of them were older already and what schools some of the exchange students would come from. As well as someone he had just recently been confronted with, a new girl that had joined the team of duellists. Other than that he would recognize Zykeal from various short encounters and the shared time of injury during a game of tug o' war, as well as a girl he had no recollection of having heard their name. She had however given him a hug during the annual blossom ball and offered him chocolate only to consume it herself afterwards as she was off to cause more trouble he had presumed back then. He was oddly happy to see her again, as it meant she was well.

He would find himself one of the beds that were adorned with cute cloud pillows, and heaved his trunk on top of the blanket so that he could access the contents more easily as he went to place his belongings into a cabinet, which also included a tiny box that he would carefully place on his bed. His parents had gotten less strictly or probably would have called him crazy if they went and had checked what he brought to school, but for now he looked at the little box, before he got out his wand and twirled it. "Finite Incantatem," [d20:6+7) he would cast on the small box as he waved his wand in the telltale pattern of the general counter charm and promptly the little box would return to its original size, a bigger box filled to the brim with candy, especially chocolate. The boy dressed in white pants and a red shirt, with a white cap and a little watermelon symbol stitched at the front of it, would offer a grin to the other kids that already found their way into the cabin. "Feel free to dig in!" he chirped as he placed the little box on top of the counter so it would be accessible for everyone without having to feel awkward. Tiger by that point had found his way onto the bed and curled up on one of the cushions.

Gabriella and some others seemed to notice the bad attempt of recalling people’s names. At this point, she should make a list of nicknames that will possibly help her remembering process. The first string beater did, however, took the nasty bludger that caused her to fall to her doom. Knowing how it felt, Aurora cringed at the last match memory. Bad things shall pass. A little blush crept in her already flushed cheek as Gabby complimented her not so good performance, didn’t she know that the kid missed two times in a row and warn her target before it hits? Very star beater attitude. “Ah- I only did one match, I am sure you are so much experienced than me.” Looking away sheepishly, she continued, “Actually I was seeking the seeker position, but now I think being a beater is way more fun.” Although she only experienced the pleasure of being a seeker in the scrimmage for quite a short time, it was enough for Aurora to give up that position and pursue the needed skill to be a good beater. Turning her head towards Milena and ask her a question, perhaps she could tell the bird one or two things about her school. "What about you? are you a quidditch person?"

Shortly after her quidditch talk, someone greeted her. What was her name again? Costal? No- Cosmetology? Too long and complicated for a name, is it? Luck was in her favour as the forgotten girl started to mention her name. Cosmo, close. “H-hi! How are you?” They just met a couple of hours ago, board the same train, the same compartment, and here she was, forgetting their names like it was nothing. To be fair, she did it to almost everyone. The sight of Lucifur getting along with other cats just made her heart full. “He’s only four months old. Still an icky kitten”

Everything went great. The people in the unicorn cabin gave a positive first impression. Until a familiar figure nonchalantly entered the room. The other might felt a little breeze as he came in, but not Aurora. Perhaps a pang of guilt for everything she did in the cold and dark underworld. Both hands tried to cover her face, maybe her new hairstyle might make her unrecognizable. Oh no. He sees me. As he placed a box, though she didn’t realise it yet, the rather problematic Ravenclaw greeted him a little too loud. “Hi- you- uh- Mr Policeman!” Awkwardly glancing towards the prefect. Her criminal record in his eyes must be full of pages after pages. “How’s your day s-sir? Pretty good?” Silently hoping the guy in a red shirt had amnesia or something similar. Zero recollection of the shady business she did a couple of months ago would do the job as well. The first violation was casting flipendo at the wrong person, then lying, then cast a curse, yet again, at another innocent student, so on and so forth. Diffusing the tension was not the girl’s speciality. If anything, she could make the awkwardness in the air add up as the clock is ticking like a time bomb.

At last, her gaze shifted from the older student to the box he brought. Just a second ago, the twelve year old kid considered the unicorn cabin as heaven on earth, but now that another beauty was in front of her eyes, her squishy thing so-called brain stopped working. Cotton candy being soaked in water is what her brain state was. Eyes widen, inaudible exclamation was the only thing that came out from her mouth. “O-oh!” Language? Spells? Never heard of those before. The moving picture of herself swimming in a pool of chocolates, jelly beans, and marshmallow jam packed her mind. "OOOHH!” The police guy will be claimed as her secret guardian angel without a doubt whether or not he would agree “Cho-chocolates and candies!?” With grabby hands and pleading eyes, Aurora looked at the box owner once again, “Can I?”

Talking to @Aurora Ranvier and @Gabriella Haworth
Mentioning Milena Orlova, Iris Fields, Zykeal Lane and Alan Vanes (plus kitty :p)
Aurora didn't seem to have as much recognition as Cosmo would have expected, especially considering how chaotic their train ride together was. It had been a very long day though, she supposed, and there were lots of new people to meet. Besides, who was she to hold forgetfulness against someone.

"I'm good, glad to finally be here, and don't worry," she assured Aurora with a chuckle, "he'll only get ickier. Emerald smashed my mums favourite vase these holidays."

As more people dragged belongings into the cabin and joined the group in their own ways, Cosmo could feel her excitement rising. This was like one big sleepover, except with people she didn't know yet! It was impossible not to form opinions based on first impressions though, and people were certainly making their impressions. Gabby was talking excitedly about Quidditch, and Cosmo smiled indulgently at her. She seemed very friendly and very passionate about her sport. It was nice when the same bubbly energy was directed to Cosmo.

"It's wonderful to meet you too! I heard you say you're a beater? I'm sorry to admit that I didn't see any matches last year, but I have a friend on the Gryffindor team, Haley Rose..." she smiled a little sheepishly, realising she didn't even know if Ravenclaw had played against Gryffindor. There was a lot about Quidditch she didn't understand yet. "I don't know if you've played against her or not, but maybe one day I'll finally get around to seeing a match, it would be good to cheer you on!"

Milena seemed to be a much more reserved individual, and Cosmo knew her energy levels could sometimes be tiresome for quiet people, so when the Durmstrang girl introduced herself instead of speaking Cosmo merely inclined her head with a smile. Then came an older girl who seemingly opposed Milena in all ways, Cosmo wasn't sure quite what she was upset over but her yells certainly carried through the cabin effectively. The temptation to go ask her why rainbows were so offensive was certainly there - but in this case Cosmo squished her curiosity down and let the girl go off to her room uninterrupted. Maybe in the coming days she would get to ask.

Next, a quiet boy came in but Cosmo only got a brief glance before he disappeared into a room. His entrance was so uneventful compared to the last that he was almost gone from her mind when he reappeared, only to go straight back outside again. This was intriguing, but not enough for Cosmo to follow him, and considering he hadn't spoken to anyone it was even quite likely that he didn't want to be disturbed.

Lastly a tall boy who Cosmo recognised as a Gryffindor prefect came in, with a truly gorgeous cat trailing behind. She had never seen a bengal before, and Emerald certainly hadn't. The young kitten paused her greeting with Lucifer to look over, as both the boy and his cat walked by. The bengal didn't return with his owner so it wasn't going to be tonight, but Cosmo couldn't wait for Emerald to meet Unicorn Cabin's latest animal addition.

Few things in life were as fine as a good summer. Campfire gatherings, tomato wars, storytelling, and spin the bottle were all things that the youth of today reveled in. Atticus however had his own reasons for signing up for summer camp. Ever since securing his position here as Transfiguration Professor, he couldn't help but keep getting the inclination that he needed more experience with the students. Life on the road as a hit wizard had left him sorely subpar for pop culture, and being an American had no doubt hurt his ability to connect with the youngins. All this to say he wasn't exactly the outgoing type, but like all obstacles in life, patience would help him overcome it.

Of course his plans weren't all that complex neither. Wade was simply here to observe and counsel those he'd been assigned to. From his perspective, there was very little incentive to interfere with the student's daily activities. To him it seemed most wanted the freedom of being on vacation with the familiarity of going back to school. Admittedly he was just there in case his presence was needed, and if he could get away with it, he'd spend the whole summer cooped up and cozy. This way, he could get the information he wanted and use it to mold their minds into the greatest wizards of the next century without sacrificing his precious alone time. Still, it wasn't exactly the most exciting proposition, to be watching a cabin full of kids for a month.

At least, that was what he thought right up until he saw the cabin he was going to be sleeping in.

With such vibrant colors and a full roster of kids, Atticus nearly died of laughter as he strolled through the front door. This was quite unlike the cabins he was used to Perhaps he would have some fun after all. "Afternoon folks," he spoke chucklingly with his lightly southern accent. It wasn't as strong back home, but here in Scotland the drawl really stood out. "I reckon y'all'll be fixin to pick bunks and run off with your best friends soon, but afore ya do."

He would purse his lips together, take his hat off and place it above his heart.

"I'm Professor Atticus Wade. Sir works fine too if'n you're in a hurry to get my attention." He would smile warmly, his voice a gentle rumble as he introduced his self. "I'm an Illvermorny Alumni. Texas born, Amarillo to be specific, but I was raised in Buffalo New York." He would pause. Not too many were gathered, he'd probably have to make the same introduction a couple of times. Such was hospitality for you. "Anyone feeling like telling me a bit about themselves or where they've come from?"

If not: "Well, then I guess that settles that then. If you need me, I'll be by the range... Making myself a cup of coffee."
@

I do not accept, and I am not resigned.
