Kaz shifted to sit up as more people began entering the cabin, giving Cade a wave when he stopped beside Alec. Another Magical Beasts Club friend, and someone he knew. Their cabin was shaping up to be decent so far, at least there wasn’t anyone he actively disliked anyway, and new faces meant new experiences. The French girls seemed to have decided to join in with the rest of the cabin and Kazuo leaned forward to peer at them over Ruka’s shoulder when Angelique addressed them. Them being the boys. He arched a brow at her comment, lips quirking upward into a slightly lop-sided smirk.

“You two look more like cranes than chickens. I doubt you’ll have any trouble with these foxes.” He observed as Ruka abandoned him to approach the girls. He scanned the floor for Haru, noting his kitten’s location then returned his attention to the conversation Ruka had started up with the girls. “Haven’t heard anything about broom races yet. I heard there’s going to be some kind of duelling event, though.” He offered, wondering if dueling was more in Cassanora’s interest. Then the girl blurted out her love of potions and it drew a soft chuckle from Kazuo. It seemed the girl was a bit nervous. “Browne-sensei is… hard to miss…” He replied to Cassanora with a grin. “I think it’s safe to assume everyone here knows your dad. I’m stuck in his House.”

Kazuo attention immediately shifted when the door opened and Erin entered. His gaze locked on and followed Erin as she silently made her way across the cabin to claim a bunk. Her presence felt like a bad omen and he was torn between concern and excitement. On the one hand, his curiosity drove him to want to understand the girl and her trauma better but on the other hand, he clearly hadn’t made a good impression when he’d sided with Vlad at the ball. Not that Erin even knew who he really was, still confusing her for Flash, but he would rather not end up strangled in the middle of the night for being a deathwitch.

Cespedes-sensei entered the cabin, as boisterous as Kazuo expected the odd groundskeeper to be, finally breaking his gaze away from Erin. “So you did attend your interview for Groundskeeper in your bushman suit?” Kazuo asked with a grin, reminded of the conversation he and Maria had during his bonfire errand. He glanced over at Maria as she arrived, grinning at her, hoping she remembered that part of their conversation. “Maria!” He greeted her then turned to gaze at the next entrant. “Ah, the thorniest rose Hufflepuff has ever seen has joined us.” He added when Eden chose to confront Cespedes-sensei. “This is a fascinating start…” He murmured, more to himself than anyone else.

Nell turned around to the voice behind her. She smiled, trying to be welcoming enough to this girl that she knew was from somewhere else. Nell vaguely noticed the scar under her eye, but she'd seen worse. There was no need to question it at all. Nell gave a small, light laugh. "I bet so, all they've been doing is complaining," Nell said. "Oh, sorry, I'm Nell. Nice to meet you," she said, reaching her hand out after introducing herself. "Excuse me a second, I think more people have arrived," Nell said politely, leaving the room to go to the main room.

She recognized Alec, of course. She was hesitant to say hello to him, however, so she settled on not doing so. Two others entered the room, and Nell hadn't really seen either of them. She'd get to know them, eventually. Soon enough, another boy entered. Nell recognized him, and was relatively sure he was a Ravenclaw. His name was Cade, wasn't it? She took notice that one of the boys that had walked in was accompanied by an owl. Nell didn't mind pets, not at all, the other students might be a different story, though. Another girl soon entered the cabin, and Nell knew she was a Slytherin, but didn't know her name or anything.

Suddenly, the Grounds Keeper entered the cabin. Nell sighed, knowing that this was their likely chaperone. For the next month. She hated having adults watching each and every move she made, it bothered her immensely. But rules were rules. He soon introduced himself as Eliseo, as well as speaking quite a bit of Spanish. Nell was decent at Spanish, so it was good. The majority of the other students looked puzzled, however.

Another girl rushed it, and Nell recognized her. She was in Hufflepuff, and Nell vaguely knew her name was Maria. A duelist, yes, that was it. Another student also entered, but Nell has no idea who he was. She made her was back to the room where she met the other girl."So what school are you from?" she asked, trying to break the ice a bit.
August 8

Nell got up relatively early, before the others. She made her way into the main room, sleepily, and saw letters under the front door. She rubbed her eyes a picked one up, one with her name. She saw another letter with Cade's name on it, but she waited for him to get it himself. She wasn't going to wake anyone now. She headed back to her bunk silently and read the letter.

A riddle... a riddle that needed to be solved. But when, and how?

Looking over his shoulder, Ruka pulled a small grimace at Kazuo claiming the two girls looked like cranes more than hens. What a strange compliment that settled uncomfortably in the pit of his stomach. It was welcome that Cassanora blurted out her love for potions right then, giving Ruka something else to focus on.

"Me too," he announced brightly, shuffling forward a bit where he was seated on the armrest, to lean towards the girl with a bright smile. "Potions, I mean. I like Potions a lot. Feels a lot like cooking to me." He grinned, then winced when Fuwa decided to bite down on his earlobe before fluttering off to instead perch herself on Kazuo's shoulder with an indignant hoot. Jealous owl.

He wanted to say more, wanted to stick around for the conversation on Duelling that Kazuo had initiated, but it was then that his eyes followed a familiar form entering the cabin to claim a bunk near the window. Swallowing heavily, Ruka cast a glance at Kazuo as though looking for emotional support. "Excuse me," he told the small group he had found himself in just then, slid off his chair and slowly walked over to the Slytherin girl.

"Erin," he said, carefully but smiling as he approached her. He left his hood down lest she thought he was some sort of shapeshifter. "Good to see you around here." Good to see her alive, at least. If she really still was. Opening and closing of the door would announce the arrival of their adult supervision and his non-edible cactus, but Ruka would keep his focus on Erin regardless, a nervous smile on his face as he halted before he could intrude in her personal space too much. The last time he had seen her she had been tackling one of her Housemates, so who knew... "Not a bad cabin, is it?" God, how he hated small talk. What were you supposed to say to your brother's out-of-her-mind fake ex-girlfriend? Probably nothing. Staying away would have been the correct course of action, but... He shook his head to himself. "I hope you like rain because Augurey are supposed to predict it." Yes, fun facts were great conversation, good job, Ruka. "Assume we'll have to deal with the sound of it all month."

It had felt like much less than a month before she was stepping on the Hogwarts Express again to return to school for summer camp. She had had a few blissful weeks of re-uniting with the Troop and hanging out with them again, but that had been slightly spoiled by the fact she had to, firstly, go to the Beckett Ball, and secondly, move in with her parents again. Scarlett had been expecting this - after all, if your parents were home again, you certainly didn't continue to live separately from them - but she hadn't anticipated the move being so abrupt. It had been quite a shock entering her dusty old bedroom again, after years of misuse.

So Scarlett had spent most of her time outside or in Fiona's home, only returning to the house when she had to sleep. Her parents didn't complain - this level of co-operation was a lot more than they had been hoping for.

And soon enough, the month was up and Scarlett was boarding the train, not to see her friends and family again for numerous months. Luggage in hand, summer clothes on, she was slightly sad to be leaving her aunt and the Troop so soon, but also rather excited for what they would be doing in summer camp. Last year had been slightly confusing, but she had pushed through. However this year, Scarlett knew what she was doing, when she was doing it, who she would be doing it with and where she would be doing it. She felt quite accomplished for being so organised.

Anyway, Scarlett flung open the door of her cabin for the next month - the Augurey Cabin. She had absolutely no idea what an Augurey was, but from the muted tones and simplistic, rustic design of the place, it didn't seem like a very interesting animal. A lot of students were gathered already, but she didn't recognise many. In fact, she didn't recognise any, apart from the annoying Outfit-Stealer from the ball, and Nell and Maria from classes. There also appeared to be the groundskeeper guy. Everyone was chatting avidly, but there was one little group in the middle, with Outfit Stealer, a boy she didn't know [Ruka] with an adorable owl, and two girls who looked her age, of which Scarlett had never seen before. Different school maybe? Maria was the nearest to her, so Scarlett scaled the ladder of the bunk bed, dumping her trunk on it and sitting down in a relaxed fashion.

"Hello," she began simply. "I'm Scarlett. Nice to meet you all! And cute owl by the way, what's the name?" The last question was directed at the boy she didn't know [Ruka]. Scarlett ran her fingers along the wood of her bunk. Hopefully, the summer was going to go well.

It was with a great yawn that Cade awoke in his bunk. Despite the busy camp activities that had drained most if not all of his energy the night before, the young Ravenclaw stirred earlier than the rest of the Augurey cabin. He lay quietly a moment enjoying the serene rain noises that permeated the otherwise silent room. Almost silent. Cade lifted his head when he spied Nell exiting the bunk area for the main room. His eyes narrowed. Why was she up? Normally, Cade would have rolled over and drifted into a light snooze until someone shook him awake for breakfast, but something nagged at him to follow.

Tugging on some proper clothes, Cade walked into the main area to see letters at the door. He rolled his eyes, someone must really miss their kid already. But Cade didn't see anyone write letters out to their home. Approaching, Cade spied his own name neatly written across an envelope and snatched it up, noting the unfamiliar scrawl. It was then that he noticed Nell was already fixed reading one similarly addressed to her. Quickly, Cade read on.

The dead have risen and have rushed into the darkened wood. Seek the black raven for he has secrets you might learn on this day. Cade swallowed trying to force down the lump that had spurred in his throat. He knew what it meant. At least some part of it. It was an invitation, obviously. But it was also the answer to the trouble that occurred during the last school year. All this time Cade tried to pretend that everything had come swiftly to a close, but apparently, that had been folly. He should have been smarter. Of course, the campgrounds would be no safer than school. Cade learned quickly that things happened at Hogwarts. Nasty things.

"We should go. They'll need us." Cade spoke quietly to Nell who seemed to be puzzled about the riddle. "Bring your wand." He watched her keenly trying to spot out some understanding behind her eyes. It didn't matter if she knew what was going on, if she'd gotten a letter she was somehow looped into this as well. Some part of Cade wondered who the sender was. If they could be trusted. Why today of all days?

Tucking the letter into his jacket, Cade made for the front door. With a glance over his shoulder, he turned the knob and cracked open the wide portal. "Coming?"

Angél would offer a small shrug. “Never said you’d be trouble. More like an adventure.” Grinned at Kazuo before her eyes were drawn to the animals mentioned by the actual fox in the room. “No, no problems with them so long as they do not poop everywhere.” Angél did not have a problem with animals per se, but she didn’t want them all over her things either.

Then the boy with the cute nails mentioned broom racing, and her eyes dilated slightly as she looked over to him. “Yes, I from there, and yes, we do have an amazing broom racing team. I am one of the racers, in fact. It is a shame that there is no event for us this year. It seems like some of the other schools just are not up to par yet. Shame, really.” She pouted slightly while the chaperone made his Entrance. Angél looked behind her and watched him as he spoke. “Monsieur Céspedes, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” If the groundskeeper was keen on remembering students who helped in his errands, her greeting might bring to his mind her cousin, Santario. Two drastically different girls, and it would appear he got the more troublesome of the two.

Well, the chaperone was here, and now she was no doubt about to be bored. Too many people in a small enough space, and it just got annoying. Looking towards Cassanora, she would announce her departure. “I am going to go see if I can find my insufferable cousin at the bbq. She needs to be reminded of her manners after what she did to you at the ball.” With that, so long as she was not stopped, she would leave the cabin.
Leaving the thread for the BBQ if not stopped.

Amelie felt herself relax as the girl returned her smile, one which was admittedly far more convincing that Amelie’s own. She chuckled lightly at her words, finding it odd that the girls would be stood out in the open complaining about god knows what when god knows who could over hear them. She wondered if that was a common trait of students from Beauxbatons, or whether some complained in private as Amelie had always been taught to. She shook her head minutely, trying not to be a hypocrite and judge when she hated when others judged her.

She took the girl’s hand and shook it firmly. "Nell, hi. I’m Amelie, nice to meet you too," She replied, and realised that her words weren’t a lie as they so often were when she was introduced to new people. She was staying open-minded. Most of these people didn’t know her after all, and that meant they didn’t know her story. She decided she liked it that way, very much so. And although she already missed her brother terribly, she was glad that to everyone she met here she wouldn’t be known as the girl who ‘was brutally attacked by her own brother’. She went to open her mouth again, ask Nell whether she was a Hogwarts student or from another school like she was, when the girl excused herself.

Left alone, Amelie chewed her lip, a slip in her usual mask which covered any signs of anxiety. She considered going and introducing herself to someone else, watched as plenty of other students rushed in and out of doors, throwing bags onto beds and talking amongst themselves. Clearly many of them knew each other already, even those not from Hogwarts by the looks of it. She decided she’d simply observe for now. At the arrival of an adult – Eliseo, he offered – she decided that perhaps it was time to unpack. But that posed the new issue of where she would be unpacking. She didn’t know anyone, she couldn’t ask someone to bunk with her, she felt rude just taking a bunk, she didn’t know if she should speak to Eliseo. Amelie realised she was chewing her lip again forced herself to stop. it was just a bed, it was fine. As she came to this revelation, Nell walked back up to her and started to talk. She smiled inwardly at the girl’s perfect timing. Perhaps they’d hit it off and could share a bunk bed.

"Ilvermorny," She answered. "And you? Hogwarts I’m assuming, you seem comfortable", Amelie added, realising after she’d spoken that it might sound like a weird thing to say. The girl was just good at guessing these sorts of things – she always seemed to know. As if to cover up for the strange comment, she quickly spoke again. "I love your rings, by the way," She smiled, always wanting to be someone who wore rings but having such spindly fingers they always seemed to fall off. Even the one her mother had spelled to fit her perfectly, she’d managed to lose.

"Ilvermorny," Amelie responded. "Oh, that's a really nice school," Nell replied with a smile. "Yeah, I'm from Hogwarts," Nell said with a laugh. "Thanks," Nell said. People rarely noticed her rings, they were kind of a part of her by now. With that being said, Nell truly appreciated the complement. "I don't really have a bunkmate yet, and I was wondering if you maybe wanted to be bunkmates? If you don't want to, it's completely fine," Nell asked quickly, also trying to give Amelie space to say no if she didn't want to.

Nell looked up from her letter to see Cade already reading his. She tried to ignore the somewhat worried expression on his face, but it was hard not to. Nell had been so caught up with trying to do well academically that she had probably missed out on some bad things that happened through the year. Apparently, Cade was one of the people who did know what happened. It didn't take a genius to know that it was more than just sunshine and rainbows at Hogwarts. It wasn't as perfect as everyone made it out to be, that's for sure.

Nell didn't know what was going on. And that's one thing she hated, not knowing. She hated being out of the loop but in reality, it was her fault for not trying to be more socially involved. That's what you get for being too studious. Suddenly Cade spoke out, "We should go, they'll need us." Nell should've expected they would've needed to do something instantly, but it still came as surprise. "Bring your wand," he added. She quickly grabbed her wand and followed Cade. Thankfully, she was already dressed. She put the letter in her pocket, making sure it was secure. "Coming?" Cade asked her. "I sure am," she said with a small smile.

She followed him out the door of the cabin, and suddenly was hit by a cool breeze. It was definitely very contrasted from the hot weather at the barbecue. "You seem to know more than I do about, well all of this," she said with a small laugh. "Where are we headed?" she asked.

Amelie found herself nodding a little bit too eagerly and had to force herself not to just as eagerly shout yes in Nell’s face. She had enough self-control not to do that though and instead smiled. “Bunkmates sounds perfect,” Amelie said, more grateful that this girl had asked her than she probably knew. She once again found herself happy with being so unknown here. Loneliness she’d dealt with for years, she could manage that, but being stared at and treated oddly was something which would always prickle her skin. And though she was reluctant to take anyone’s insults anymore – often biting back with equally an venomous words when people did insult her – she knew they still affected her and hopefully this summer would be a break from that.

“You’re the first person to speak to me since I got on that train actually. So, it’s not like I have loads of options,” She chuckled. A few seconds passed before she realised what she said and immediately tried to backtrack. “Not that I think you’re a last resort or anything, I didn’t mean it as a bad thing. It was actually a compliment, or more like a thank you for, you know, talking to me,” Her words were quick, and she had very little time to process what exactly she was saying before she’d already spoken. She mentally cursed her poor social skills and looked somewhere off to the side of Nell’s face.

The girl took a deep breath, giving herself a second to properly think before she spoke for once, before looking back at Nell with a sheepish expression. “Sorry,” She gave a nervous giggle. “I meant yes I’d like to be your bunkmate,” She clarified, bending slightly to grab the duffel bag which had momentarily been forgotten by her feet. “As an apology for my disastrous social skills, or lack thereof, why don’t you choose the bunk,” She said, walking over to an unoccupied bunk bed by one of the large windows. Top or bottom bunk, she didn’t care. Either one would allow her to hide under the bedsheets to think about her inability to communicate.

The look Ruka had given him when he’d called the girls cranes earned a raised eyebrow from Kazuo, unsure of why Ruka was giving him that sort of look. Ruka gave him no further clarification, however, turning to talk to Cassanora instead. Kazuo’s eyes narrowed briefly, head tilting to the side as he studied Ruka, trying to discern what the look might mean. When Fuwafuwa settled on his shoulder he tensed a bit at the unexpected visitor then reached up to carefully stroke the owl’s downy head. Surprisingly soft, he gave the fluffball a slight smile.

He watched Ruka move toward Erin and he couldn’t help but to tense. Thirty one days living with a ticking time bomb who thought Jack was a ‘deathwitch’ and Ruka thought that, as Jack’s near-twin, it was a superb idea to approach her. His lips thinned to a line as he watched silently.

His gaze shifted briefly when Scarlett entered, blinking when she asked the owl’s name. Was she talking to him or Ruka? He was confused, only because the owl was perched on his shoulder but she appeared to be directing her attention to Ruka. Well, Fuwafuwa wasn’t his owl, best let Ruka answer.

Then his attention shifted back to Angelique. “Adventure is it?” He replied with a slight smirk. “I’ll keep that in mind.” Then Angelique was heading out to the bbq and Kazuo wondered if that wasn’t a good idea. “Food sounds good.” He spoke to no one in particular. “Could do with something that isn’t sugar.” A derisive commentary on the train’s infamous snack trolley and its unhealthy assortment of candy.
