Kelpie Welcome to the Kelpie Cabin Closed

@Zoë Fresnel
More and more students began to trickle into the Kelpie Cabin. Some faces were familiar, but many were not. There was going to be quite a bit of connecting with each student as they always want to be heard. The problem was, Maya was unsure of how many students were supposed to be in the cabin. It was ever-growing. With the thought that she was paired up with the Charms Professor meant that they would probably have more students than the other cabins... Who knew?

Maya, stepping to the side after "gifting" the Hufflepuff Prefect with his game, watched some of the students grab the muggle game, Twister. They were discussing the rules of the game when one of the students, a young student, shared her confusion on the spinner.

"It is best if you have a designated person to spin rather than doing both. You'll fall with the latter," she said, giving them a helpful hint. Maya was going to offer to spin when she saw her counterpart walk into the cabin. She seemed so gleeful and happy. She was a woman that Maya had yet to fully meet and her first impression of her was someone who was very bubbly.

Maya watched as she retreated to her room quickly. She thought it would be a good time to introduce herself and even plan with her on how to handle the many personalities in the cabin. For it to work, they needed to be on the same place; at least that's what Maya believed.

She left the children to play their games and she made her way to the hallway where she found Zoe's room with the closed door. She knocked on the door three times. "Fresnel, may I come in?" she asked, her Israeli accent thick.

After taking a moment to just admire the beautiful cabin, Zoë decided she wanted to at least get her suitcase tucked away instead of just dragging it around. Peering around, she noticed there was a separate room and decided that she would check in there as it seemed to be the most logical place for the adults of the cabin to stay.

Sure enough, there was a bed that seemed ready for her and Zoë plopped her suitcase on top with a wide smile. She appreciated that there would be at least a bit of privacy for her if she needed it. Her mind wandered momentarily to Eliseo and she wondered how he was doing in his cabin. The man could be a bit peculiar but seemed to be naturally good with kids, so she assumed that he would find a way to survive the month with them.

Her thoughts were suddenly broken by a sudden knock at the door behind her. She tensed with the startling noise but assumed it was probably just one of the young students coming to say hello. However, the voice had a thick accent and was quite clearly not one of the students. A wide smile pressed into her cheeks as he quickly turned and assumed it was Maya.

Swinging the door open, Zoë gave an excited wave to the woman. “HI! Of course, come on in,” Zoë said with an energetic enthusiasm towards the woman. “Oh and you can call me Zoë. Fresnel sounds so formal. Like now presenting Madame Fresnel…” She paused quickly realizing that she was about to start rambling excitedly about nothing in particular.

“Sorry about that, you know the brain keeps on running sometimes. I am just excited to have you in here with me,” she said with a genuine smile. She didn’t know too much about the woman but assumed they would get to know each other pretty well over the next month. Zoë stepped out of the doorway to allow the woman to enter if she desired.

Letters would arrive, simple small white envelopes that were sealed with a drop of wax and a singular divot reminiscent of the side of a quill. The letters were for the Ravenclaws housed in this cabin. Identical in raw form, their names written individually on their own personal envelope.

They would be found there first thing in the morning on Aug 8, whoever had dropped them off had done so at an incredibly early hour. If one must know, it was a little after five in the morning. The letters were pushed under the front door and awaited the Ravenclaws when they rose.
The dead have risen and have rushed into the darkened wood. Seek the black raven for he has secrets you might learn on this day.
For those that were aware, that had paid attention over the past year, no several. The message was obvious and clear. For those that had not paid attention, had the good fortune to avoid the drama and mayhem, were simply too new to know the terrors that awaited them in the wizarding world away from the diligent protection of their parents, they would be left with a mystery to solve in a matter of mere hours. Ravenclaws were the sort that always enjoyed a good riddle, a bit of intellectual flair to their otherwise humdrum days. The promise of a mystery, a puzzle, something to solve would be enough to draw them out.

Put an end to one more thorn.

Oh summer, what a time to be alive. Especially when one is right in the throughs of the chaotic whirlwind that is puberty and rebellion. Summer means many things, for many people of all shapes and sizes from all walks of life. But for one young lad it a time of rebirth, renewal, and mad fun.

Or in this case, the cracking of a door as he burst in and nearly knocked it off its hinges (literally in this case). He'd arrived late, because of course his therapist scheduled a last minute therapy session that made him late. Of course the professors knew but they were very respectful with his privacy. So, in usual Quinn fashion he nearly crashed through the door like the Kool-aid man smiling joyfully.

He looked around and fell into laughter looking at the tiny bodies, "Oi, 'ow we all doin dis foehn lahvin day!" He exclaimed in a jovial and boisterous voice for all in the cabin to hear. He had a smaller trunk from what he usually had quite literally hanging from one hand like it was weightless. He scanned the room and happened to catch the back end of an equally boisterous Jack Warren. It caused him to frown a bit, but then that faded as soon as he saw the tiny pizza goblin.

"Oh look its the tiny gremlin...Oooooooooh and now she comes with armor. I'm soooooooo impressed." The voice echoing in Quinn's head was dripping so heavily with sarcasm that you could cut it with a butter knife.

Quinn barely held back a laugh, before mentally swotting the flamboyant man child telling him to be nice. His massive frame that was well over 9 feet, lumbered over to the tiny pizza goblin. With a quick motion he put his trunk down and suddenly yoinked the pizza goblin off of her feet holding her in one arm. "Serena!!" He exclaimed in his thick irish tone.

He had left his beard to grow for the last two months so it was fairly long and a little unkempt but somewhat neat and brushed. His hair was up in a messy bun and face covered in even more freckles somehow. It appeared he had forgone his makeup. "I am lahvin dis armahr!" He noted looking at the new foot wear.

In typical Quinn fashion he was wearing a white button up with shrimp pattern, turqoise shorts, brown flip flops, and a shrimp themed bow tie. Picking up a small child so suddenly was probably not the best thing, but he never really cared about that. He then walked over to his fellow prefect Jack and suddenly hoisted him up to smirking. "'ey Jack ya damn sahd, stahp messin wit de yooehnger years. You'll make dem dink we all bad." He laughed again ignoring the snide comment of Harlin.

"Oh look! It's tweedle dumb, and he hasn't cursed you out yet!?" There was a sudden gasp or what sounded like a gasp. "Progress." The flamboyant voice mentioned whimsically with a hint of malicious intent.

He ignored this other one rolling his eyes before quickly hugging the two tight and setting Jack down while he suddenly put Serena on his shoulders, in such a way she could hold onto his head for support. "Sooooo what's goin ahn 'ere? I mess de party?" He then looked around slowly conscious of Serena on his shoulders as he was eyeing everyone warmly.

It was undeniable that her counterpart to watch the cabin was someone who was beyond kind and genuine. Maya never really had a conversation with Zoe, but she had a sense that she was going to find her more than lovely to get to know.

Maya walked into Zoe's room, not knowing where exactly to sit, so she stayed standing. "Call me Maya," she said, giving her the same informality back. If they were going to "live" together, they might as well drop the formalities. There was no use.

A smile was painted on Maya's face. It was a nice compliment for Zoe to make. Maya didn't realize that someone was happy to have her company. Maya was known to be very stern and intense. Just to hear that someone was excited to be working with them (and living with them) during summer camp, made her heart warm.

"I'm happy to be working with you, too. I think we might be the only cabin with two adults...," she said, recognizing that they probably were the only cabin with two professors. "Do you think they would give us the most troubled of kids?" she asked, wondering. She wouldn't think Jensen would do that, but who knows.

"So, you teach charms, right? Must be rewarding to see your students embrace their magic," she said, trying to start some conversation with her.

"JAKE GET YER ARSE IN HERE"

"I'm comin', I'm comin'!"Jake replied, entering behind his friend, lugging his backpack behind him through the door. He had been wearing it normally before, but he had perhaps overpacked - and it had begun making his shoulders especially sore due to the sleeveless green shirt that he was wearing. Good for keeping cool on a hot August morning, but not so good for carrying things.

Jake had been almost looking forward to camp at first, but that was before he had found out about the sleeping arrangements... Nobody had told him that. Last year he had got to have a room with three of his best friends - Jack, George, and Alan, and they all got to share their own space. That had been a nice time. He had thought it'd be like that again, but THIS time the cabins were RANDOM, and it wasn't just four people, no. The Kelpie cabin was huge!

The small boy paused for a moment and looked around the room. There were many faces he didn't even recognize. That was the first thing he noticed.

Jake hadn't known that he was going to sleep in the same space as a bunch of strangers... That had been how Hogwarts had once felt, when he'd first gotten there. That was before he'd gotten to know George and Jack and Oswald and the other boys in his year. Then later, new first years had arrived like Kazuo and Julian. Now, with all the friends Jake had made, the Scamander dorm felt like a safe space to be. Jake felt comfortable there, not so embarrassed anymore that people would see that he still slept with a night light, or while hugging his stuffed dog Freddie, or other things he didn't want people to know. For better or worse, the other Scamander dorm boys already knew everything about Jake. This was a new situation, and Jake suddenly felt old worries creeping back into his head.

At least Jack was with him. Arriving at camp had been chaos! Everybody crowded around, most of them taller than he was, with what was going to happen next completely uncertain. It had been Jack who'd told him that they were in the same cabin (much to Jake's relief), He would get to still room with one of his best friends, at least. But the problem was all of the OTHER people he was going to have to room with.

Jake was shaken from his thoughts by the announcements Jack began to make about what this summer would bring. "Please can't we not get in trouble this year Jack?" Jake whined. That was when their cabin's grown-up approached, far too soon for Jake's warning to take hold. Jake recognized her, but had never spoken to her, and after seeing the look she gave Jack he'd be far too scared to. Jake's eyes drifted towards the knife in her hand, then back up to the look on her face. The Hufflepuff took a small step away from Jack as if to show that he would not be causing any trouble (He had tried to be a good influence on Jack but that had never worked...) Then he watched tensely until she walked away again, drawing a sigh of relief from Jake.

There were some nice surprises after that though. Professor Fresnel was a professor Jake HAD had before, and he gave her a wave as she entered and greeted them. If he had any problems he was going to go to HER, he decided. She was nice, and she was the one that didn't have a knife. There was also another familiar face that approached them.

"Hi Serena! You're in this cabin too?" Jake asked, feeling some more relief. Serena had always been nice to him - and not only that, it meant he wasn't going to be the only kid using a light at night. As he greeted her (how strange it was after two years at Hogwarts to have a dorm shared with girls) he began to carefully unpack his stuffed animals and place them upon his bed.

“Maya! That is so beautiful! I mean I knew your name was Maya I uh- I knew this but just have not had a chance this year to formally - or rather informally meet everyone so I hadn’t had the chance to tell you yet!” Zoë excitedly replied to Maya as she realized she was once again ranting although it didn’t seem like Maya minded or at least she wasn’t letting on that she did.

“The ‘only’ cabin with two professors…” Zoë thought out loud as Maya insinuated that they had been placed with the troublemakers. “I can’t imagine any students being ‘troubled’ I just think they put us both here so we would be the most exciting cabin around! Gotta beat out Caradoc in events as he rudely got the largest cabin…” She grumbled still jealous she wouldn’t get to experience the amenities of the Dragon Cabin this year. “I am determined to make the Kelpie Cabin the place to be! Snacks, staying up late, uhm BLANKET FORTS uhhh squid tea parties?” The last idea had Zoë’s face contorting as she tried to logistically figure out how that would work. Would the students dress up as squids...was it possible to borrow baby squids from the lake...hmmm the mess...did she bring enough tea for everyone.

Pulling her from her spiraling thoughts that were surely illuminating her puzzled face, Zoë blinked as she focused on what Maya was asking, ideas for the squid tea party still floating in her immediate thoughts.

“YES! AH! Sorry that was loud. Yes, I teach Charms and I am in love with it! I miss teaching it at Beauxbatons as there was an elegance to each lesson but there is something exhilarating about bringing my crazy ideas to life back here at my alma mater. The students are incredible and to see their faces light up is just...absolute euphoria. I gotta say my reflexes have significantly improved this year from having to dip, dodge, duck and dive from the chaotic spells being shot around my class. Never a dull day that’s for sure…” She replied, taking a comical sigh at her long-winded response.

“I know you teach Muggle Studies and I have to say that that sounds incredible! My father and I used to travel a bunch and it was amazing to see how muggles found solutions to their problems without magic! They are just busy bee problem solvers and I love them for that! You must introduce your students to so many neat inventions. They have to just be in awe of every lesson with you! I know I was when I was a student here. Muggle Studies always made me smile. Quick off the top of your head, what are your three favorite muggle inventions!” Zoë questioned rather abruptly, forgetting that not everyone was used to her sporadic personality.
