Angél‘s eyes snapped over to the door as someone else entered a girl; how boring, no offense to the girl, in particular, she was sure she was… lovely. “Yes, of course, they did a lovely job. I am just feeling ragged and frustrated from the train ride.” She avidly hated being alone. It was why she preferred being at school because she was always surrounded by people. “Yes, of course, you are right; what Maddie is doing is great. I am sorry.” She sighed, deflated.

Then there was promise! Thank Merlin, she was saved! A boy in the most eccentric and exciting clothing holding the hand of another good-looking boy. It should be no surprise to Cass that she had just lost her friend’s attention. There was a reason Cass and Maddie were closer to each other than they were to Angél, and that was because the moment a cute boy entered the room, her mind went one track. The only exception was when she was on a broom. Though her attention would snap back to her friend when her voice dropped to a whisper, and a playful grin spread over her own lips. “More for me.” She murmured.

Then as if by some form of we need more boys in the cabin, magic happened more boys entered the cabin. Angél followed behind Cass and stood in the doorway of the bunks staring specifically at the four boys. “Oooh la la, it looks like they are letting all of the foxes in the hen house. Who knew Hogwarts would so delightfully allow co-ed habitation.” She winked at them with a more than welcoming smile playing over her plump lips. There was more to play than just flirting, though while flirting was fun, she also wondered if any of these boys knew her cousin and how much of a stab in the back could it be if she got close to them.

Alec had become rather distracted in his own world as the social conquest of talking as usual humans do started all around him. He figured at the very least he could get a hello and goodbye in words to someone here before summer camp was over. Things could go back to normal, Alec could see his friends, all would be well.

Alec looked up as another person entered the bunk room. Maybe the genders would even out or something? Alec had noticed there always seemed to be more girls than boys around Hogwarts. He was probably pushing his luck. What really surprised Alec however was when the kid who'd just entered the room initiated a conversation with him. “Heh, thanks.” Alec's eyebrows twisted in a questioning way, the compliment was unexpected since his nails didn't look the best. He brightened up and moved on when he was asked if he had any other colors. Alec nodded his head in a bashful manner, “oh, um yeah-Usually I use black, I have some blues though too.” Alec didn't bring up the purple.

His eyes watched the other quizzically, watching as they pulled out a parcel and used their teeth to tear it open. Alec stifled a laugh at the kid's actions before shaking his head no. “No thank you, It's nice of you to offer it though.” This was one way to start Alec's time off at summer camp right. The other kid seemed kind enough for Alec's own liking. “Alec Mason, Gryffindor.” Alec had introduced with his full name out of habit. A touch to his middle name used to be within the habit and introducing himself always made him think about the fact that he'd decided to drop it. It was the first time saying Gryffindor felt like it fit, an improvement, maybe all he'd needed was time.

Alec reached for his own bag for a moment before looking back Cade's way. “Do you like collecting the cards? I brought a few of my own collection.” Alec said he seemed hesitant before he went on speaking. “I also brought my joke jar if that's of interest. Perhaps some critiquing of jokes in the near future would pique your interest?” Alec's more childish side peaked through for a moment before his voice trailed off. The mention of the joke jar was vague, but enough to give Alec's eyes a glimmer. He'd worked on revising it, hopefully in a way where it was more friendly geared to the general public, and not catered to friends. Alec had learned his lesson the second time.

His voice trailing off only happened as Alec's eyes caught one girl out of the first group of girls as she went to turn around. An analogy about foxes and hens. If Alec was being honest, while analogies were supposed to make things easier to understand this one had only confused him. Is this how third-years' spent their free time? She was a foreign student right? Maybe it was a foreign custom. Alec masked the confusion on his face with the leftover smile from his earlier conversation. The best way to not address the fact that foxes kill hens was to start a conversation...?

Alec was only assuming, but maybe, “You're from Beauxbatons?” Alec's voice was quiet, and it was hard to tell if she'd even heard him at all. “Your school has the nice broom-racing team right?” Alec asked something he'd heard. His curiosities landed on this even if he still didn't like brooms because of how high in the air one could end up. This was what being social was, correct? Alec had to stop asking himself questions he didn't know the answer to.

Ruka halted for a moment at Kazuo’s words about Augury being the act of predicting the future by observing bird behaviour. “That’d make sense,” he said with a hum. “For the longest time they thought Augurey foretold death. You know, because everything that doesn’t conform to human beauty standards must bring certain doom.” He rolled his eyes but snickered at his own observation nonetheless.

Reaching his free hand out, Ruka fondly ruffled Haru’s fur as the sleepy kitten poked his head out from Kazuo’s hood. Fuwafuwa made a disgruntled noise but Ruka decided to ignore it. The owl had found something to do the moment they had entered the cabin anyway so there was no need to deal with her jealousy. Instead Ruka busied himself with keeping an eye on the door, smiling when a familiar face entered. He wasn’t very familiar with Alec, but it was enough to offer the boy a wide grin and a nod in greeting when he dropped his things on the bed next to his and Kazuo’s bunk. For a moment he was tempted to strike up a conversation with his fellow Gryffindor, but before he could another boy had already taken care of it, so Ruka’s attention went back to the two girls who seemed to have realised they weren’t alone anymore because their conversation had swapped to English now, which made the corners of his mouth twitch into a small smile.

His expression faltered slightly when one of the girls, clearly the more dramatic of the two, decided to address the small collection of boys in the room. The way she addressed them as foxes in what seemed like exaggerated delight made Ruka stifle a laugh. “Only because we don't have private rooms anyway, I bet," he pointed out at her observation that their accommodation for the summer was co-ed. "And because we have a staff member sleeping in the same room." He rolled his eyes with a little sigh as if he thought that measure to be ridiculously exaggerated. They didn't have constant supervision in their dorms either; What did staff expect them to do exactly?

Offering Kazuo a grin and a pat to the shoulder, Ruka stood up to move towards the girls, smiling in Alec's direction as the boy asked about the girls' school and broom racing team. As he waited to hear the answer to his fellow Gryffindor's questions, Ruka sought out the chair closest to the two girls and settled down on its broad armrest, leaning forward with his forearms braced against his thighs. "Are you girls here for the sporting events, then?" he asked curiously, tilting his head to the side as he lifted a hand to push the hood of his top back and run his fingers through his hair to make sure it wasn't sticking up at all ends.

A small hoot announced the arrival of Fuwafuwa as she settled on his shoulder to rub soft feathers against his cheek, and Ruka grinned fondly as he reached a hand up to let her nibble on his knuckles. "Hope nobody minds animals," he said sheepishly. "Fuwa doesn't exactly like staying in her cage."

Cass her eyes would widen as Angel's remark on foxes left her lips. Not making eye-contact with any of the others in the room, Cassanora coughed in her hand and gave her friend a sideways glance. It was only a matter of seconds though before those very boys started interacting with them both. Mostly turning to Angelique, she figured. "Yes, we are." Cass would reply in her friend's stead. "Cassanora Browne." She introduced herself with a nod and a smile. "I'm originally from Ireland. But my father sent me to Beauxbatons instead of Hogwarts." Her explanation followed as soon as she dropped her English name. Knowing it would bring up unspoken questions.

Both boys that had approached them were asking after sports. Something that didn't remotely speak to her current interests. While broom racing in and of itself must have been very thrilling for anyone with expertise, Quidditch seemed absolutely barbaric. "Not me..." Cass shook her head and gave an apologetic smile. She felt like the boring one at a party. Of course, everyone else was excited about the upcoming games, how could she not have anticipated this. And with Maddie not around to either help her get up to speed on the many events around, she knew she was going to be dependent on Angelique, and that did mean watching broom racing at the very least. Perhaps that was her sign to make more friends and give herself more shots to survive this camp without Maddie.

"I love potions!" She exclaimed too sudden. "I mean- You know, not sports. I'm more of a practitioner in the subject of potions, alchemy,... that stuff, you know." She bit her lip and turned her face away again, pretending to continue to look for the cooler box she saw earlier. "I came to the summer camp because it allows me to spend more time near my father, mostly." Maybe she was sharing a little too much at this point. But what the heck, she only saw the students of Hogwarts once or twice in a year. It'd be fine. "My father is the Head of Hufflepuff? Do you know him? He's a bit... odd?"

Erin would shuffle into the Augurey Cabin, a single piece of luggage in her hand. She was not in uniform, like many of the youths at summer camp she donned casual attire. For those that knew her, they would expect some sort of athleticwear and they would be correct. She wore some stretchy, charcoal-colored pants and sleeveless shirt. Over both she wore a slouchy, long-sleeved shirt of the same charcoal color. She as far from a fashionista with the unseasonable attire and bright white sneakers.

The heavy leather case was locked, another fulfilled expectation. Her eyes glanced about the scene, she was relieved for two things -- one, she did not see any giants. Two, this was not the house of the unicorn, the hell she endured her first year would not need to be re-lived.

The gentle patter of rain could be heard once she entered despite the sunny day she had just left. Eerie in her opinion. She would not address those already here, she had no intention to interface. She was here because her father would not endure her being home with him any longer. Her eyes would stop for a moment on a familiar, common face and her gut would drop a bit as she did. That face again she internally sighed.

She would claim a bunk, something near a window. It was not that she sought the view, she just wanted the proximity of a potential portal of escape.

Just a trick of the lighting they said...

Eliseo suddenly slapped the door in front of him. Nothing happened. The door did not strike out at him in retaliation as he would have presumed. He grumbled and shook his head, still astounded that the doors for the cabins had not been enchanted to attack any threats, like a man slapping the door. It was a good thing he was there, he decided. Shaking his hand from the pain of hitting a door, Eliseo took a second glance to ensure that he was at the correct cabin. This ‘Augury’ Cabin would be his home for the next month it seemed.

Sure his actual home was a short walk away on the grounds but he knew the students would need his guidance out here in the wilds. They were likely tired from their long train ride and Eliseo could hear the slight rumble of youths that had already made it inside their temporary abode. He was to be their guardian, the great master of Augury cabin for the next month. He assumed this meant that he would need to be their spiritual guide. To open their minds and illuminate them. How was the question, however. He knew that he still had not fully acclimated to European culture and at times he believed that people might even find him a bit odd.

But here was his chance to enhance the experience of the small youths, and he would take it...Even at the cost of his own sanity. As always, Eliseo wore a dark overcoat over a dark grey vest, white dress shirt, and tie. Adjusting the similarly dark grey flat cap that rested on his head, Eliseo moved to enter the dwelling to welcome his fellow campers.

Flinging the door open, Eliseo stepped inside carrying nothing but the clothes on his back and a small potted cactus in one hand and a pair of bongos in the other. He had always thought a cabin needed a good mascot and sure it was named after a creature and that would make a logical choice. But he was anything but logical. So he decided he would bring his long-time cactus companion that he had named El Churro. Was it a special cactus? No, not at all. Just a cactus roughly the size of a small mug.

“Amigos! Bienvenidos!” he shouted in welcome, temporarily rupturing the tranquility of the beautifully maintained cabin. It was truly one of the most relaxing environments he had seen at the school but doubted it would last very long. It seemed that several of the young campers were already mulling about. He was surprised to see it was co-ed housing, but who was he to stand in the way of summer love...Or was that exactly what he was for? Eliseo pondered for several moments, standing silently in the doorway and making no move to enter. Too many moments were perhaps just spent standing there peering at nothing in particular.

“Bah, it is no matter, eh honguitos?” He exclaimed finally as he strode into the cabin and offer no other explanation to his thoughts. “It is great to see all of you. If you did not know, my name is Eliseo Céspedes, I am the Groundskeeper at this fine establishment...So you better be careful, the rumors are true,” he said, his tone shifting to an almost ominous menacing growl. He narrowed his eyes and scanned the room. He did not know if there were actually any rumors, but he thought starting his entrance off with some vague and ominous quip just seemed right.

“This is El Churro, do not eat him...A name can be misleading you see,” Eliseo said, giving a wag of his finger and placing the small cactus down on a nice wooden table. Now, where was he to sleep, it seemed that they had bunk beds and Eliseo could not recall a time when he had needed to sleep in a bunk bed since he was a child. He decided he would wait to steal a sleeping spot until all of the students had had the chance to mark their claim. For now, the quaint and peaceful cabin seemed like a nice change of pace from his not-so-distant shack. But he would have to wait and see, while trying to not terrify the young faces too much.

"Not very bright colors are they?" Cade tittered lightly. "But then I suppose you don't paint nails to be the center of attention." He shrugged as he pillaged through his bag. Inwardly he thought it was stupid of himself to even talk about it. Why was it his business to know what colors he fancied? But it had obviously been enough to break the ice and get to know his fellow cabin member. So perhaps it was fine and he'd just been overthinking his social norms.

"You'll find I have a bit of a sweet tooth. It's a bad habit, I know." Cade nodded his head languidly as he chewed the chocolate. His brown hues crossed over Alec's features as he introduced himself. A Gryffindor... In the past, Cade had some bad memories associated with the house, but Alec seemed kindly and well-mannered enough. The Ravenclaw was willing to put the past behind him. After all, it was a long time past. Perhaps this would be his new break? Cade would like to think so. With a new year came new experiences.

Having completely forgotten about the Frog Cards, Cade gave a start as Alec mentioned them. Quickly he scooped up the parcel from the mattress beside him and unsheathed the card. With a quick glance at the name, his lips tilted into a slight frown. He had quite a few of them lying forgotten in the bottom of his school trunk. "I do collect cards. Got a load of dupes if you need them." Cade tossed the card back onto the bed and continued eating. His ears pricked as Alec took on a more tentative tone. "Joke jar?" Cade rose a dark brow. "That's brilliant! Let's hear one."

Cade was truly interested in hearing what fun jokes had been collected over the years in a jar. It was quite the novel activity in the young wizard's opinion. Perhaps he'd start his own one day? But before Alec could reply, a voice carried in their direction and Cade's attention flicked over towards a group of girls. Foreigners. Cade never really had the chance to interact with students from other schools during the year, that would need to change during camp. Beaubatons was quite the school, it would be dreadful if Cade went all this time without learning about its student body. So he would listen keenly to Alec's budding conversation with the girls, hoping to catch something intriguing.

But the door opened yet again and Cade noticed a student slip in quietly, keeping to herself perched by the window. A little while after the Groundskeeper made his arrival quite prevalent with a friendly greeting to all that would listen. Cade had never bothered to learn his name before, so he was quite eager to hear it again. Céspedes seemed like an awfully curious wizard. Cade would look forward to getting to know him for the next few weeks. El Churro, however, was not to be trusted. How could a cactus survive the harsh cold of the Scotland winters? It may have been summer now, but Cade didn't foresee a long life for Churro.

"Why do you reckon Céspedes has named his cactus after a Spanish snack?" He said in an undertone towards Alec. Cade's eyes remained fixed on the Groundskeeper who still stood in the doorway. Assumedly poised to greet any new arrivals. Cade would also assume the Groundskeeper was a foreigner or immigrant himself, otherwise obsessed with Spanish culture.

She was happy get a chance to spend time with people her own age, but she also missed helping take care of Aiden. He turned one right before she’d left for camp, and he was already showing signs of being a bright child. As her mother predicted he didn’t recognize her when she came home, but it didn’t take long for him to warm up to her.

Her parents were also incredibly excited to be able to start going out again when they discovered that Aiden liked been left in Maria’s care. In the months that she’d been away they had a lot of trouble leaving Aiden with any sitter because he’d get much too fussy and they’d feel much too guilty. But with Maria, his wide eyes would stare up at her, and his tooth-developing smile seemed to never end, and the world looked to be 15 times more fascinating than it is. They’d spend time reading or playing with Aiden’s toys. Other times were spent as a family, and the rest Maria spent at the diner or with childhood friends. And now, she was back at Hogwarts.

Well, sort of.

Augurey Cabin would be her new home for the month, a drastic change in scenery from the tent she’d been in last year. Although she didn’t quite remember bringing as much luggage last year. It felt odd to go from camp to school right away, but such was how it would be.

Entering the cabin, she saw that several students had arrived, most of them familiar, and others entirely new. In the far back of the cabin by the window stood an older blonde girl, who she recalled seeing many times at school events – particularly the ball when Thomas came over to “say hello”. Her presence was not necessarily menacing, but something about it made the hair behind Maria’s neck stand on end.

Shaking off her feelings of impending doom, she and her bags lugged their way to an unoccupied bunk. Passing by the adult in the cabin, she did her best to stop her trunk from crushing any toes. “Hello Mr. Céspedes!” She greeted. Finally she was able to reach her destination without causing injury to herself and others. She set her things down and caught her breath, taking in the other occupants in the cabin. One familiar face was her Head of House’s daughter, whom she’d met a while ago, another was her housemate, dubbed the Lorax, the boy she’d met prior to taking a swim in the fountain, and the Groundskeeper, sans his eco-friendly Chewbacca outfit. Other students were present, but they were either vaguely familiar, or entirely new faces.

Maria sat down on her lower bunk, rummaging through its contents. She would have to write to her mother soon, to tell her she’d settled in. Perhaps she would put it off so she could include a letter to her father about her specific adventures. With a tired sigh, she looked up at the four students talking in the seats. Should she join them? Another girl was with them, one she did not know. Perhaps she could catch the Lorax’s eye or Cass’s or Ruka’s and they would say hi to save her the trouble. Or perhaps she could just… sit and do nothing.

Her gaze tentatively came to the blond girl on the bunk. Perhaps trying to catch an observation, perhaps trying to gauge if she truly is menacing as the aura Maria felt from her.

She hoped she wouldn’t or wasn’t looking her way, because she was terrified at how she might react if they made eye contact.

Tryna solve a problem like Maria.

Eden’s face had remained still throughout the entire journey and upon his arrival in the cabin. His face had frozen for so long that his cheeks and jaw felt like they were rocks collapsing on top of each other. His eyes on the other hand had gotten used to watching the scenery outside during the entire ride. No one wanted to sit next to him or join his compartment, and Eden preferred it that way. He was not interested in small talk, and any manner of conversation would have probably lead to some sort of lash out. He was angry and sad - frustrated.

This whole journey itself was a questionable choice. He wasn’t even sure whether he consented to go because he wanted to stay away from his father, or because his father wanted him away. Either way, Eden deemed that it would be best for his own good to spend most of his time away from home. Regardless of how much he loved his mother. At this point, he was certain he was letting her down too now.

But once he stepped into the cabin, the warmth and cosiness within brought some sort of happiness that did not show on the outside. But the stillness and the simplicity of it all had made Eden feel comfortable, and knowing that he did not have to wake up to face his father’s wrath for a month was also a benefit. The only (or rather many) thing that bothered him, however, was the numerous students he had to accompany. He did not plan to interact with any of the poor sods, the more time he spent alone, the better. But the faces he had come across who shared the same cabin were somewhat familiar, and at one point, he had already met them someplace or another.

He gave a cold glare at anyone who looked his way and forced his way into the back of the cabin where he wanted to occupy a bunk bed for his own. Naturally, he wanted to stay on top and so without concerning himself with anyone else who might have wanted the same bed he did, Eden threw his beige backpack with green embroidery onto the bed with sheer force and used his long, thin legs to his advantage to surpass the bottom handle of the ladder.

So then there was only one right thing to do; he licked his pillow to claim his rightful place. A few seconds later, he looked around to make certain that no one saw him.

Once that much necessary objective was out of his way, Eden tucked the sleeves of his white button-up shirt and gave his arms some fresh air, he stretched his fingers and shoulders by lifting them up in the air and proceeded to let out a yawn, observing his surroundings while at it. His eyes were barely open after the exhausting journey that left him bored. He wanted to do something - live to the hype of this adventure, but that was not going to be easy. Especially with the Groundskeeper around. Eden had not even thought about the fact that they were going to have someone watch over them. He did not strike Eden as the cleverest man in the room, so maybe surpassing his watching duties will be no hard task. Or maybe what Eden wanted to do could be performed right in front of the big man’s face.

He approached the only adult in the room with a smirk across his face. A smirk that was rarer than a blue moon. His ten fingers intertwined with one another behind his back as he fiddled with his own shirt.

Naturally, the man was taller, and something about his face and the way he came off reminded him of Little Ed’s father. The thought sent shivers down his spine, and maybe Eden should think twice about approaching the man. But now he was quite frankly standing in front of him, and he didn’t want to make things awkward by walking up to somebody and then leaving. There was already somebody else who seemed to be talking to him, and Eden hated waiting, so he accidentally shoved his way into the conversation, gently bumping into the girl shoulders-first, and then proceeded to clear his throat, the smirk that was on his face weakening by the second.
“And what are the rumours exactly?” Eden asked with regret, his neck hurting from having to look up. He couldn’t wait to grow up and be taller than the entire lot.

Letters would arrive, simple small white envelopes that were sealed with a drop of wax and a singular divot reminiscent of the side of a quill. The letters were for the Ravenclaws housed in this cabin. Identical in raw form, their names written individually on their own personal envelope.
Nell Zoldak
Cade Darkbound
They would be found there first thing in the morning on Aug 8, whoever had dropped them off had done so at an incredibly early hour. If one must know, it was a little after five in the morning. The letters were pushed under the front door and awaited the Ravenclaws when they rose.
The dead have risen and have rushed into the darkened wood. Seek the black raven for he has secrets you might learn on this day.
For those that were aware, that had paid attention over the past year, no several. The message was obvious and clear. For those that had not paid attention, had the good fortune to avoid the drama and mayhem, were simply too new to know the terrors that awaited them in the wizarding world away from the diligent protection of their parents, they would be left with a mystery to solve in a matter of mere hours. Ravenclaws were the sort that always enjoyed a good riddle, a bit of intellectual flair to their otherwise humdrum days. The promise of a mystery, a puzzle, something to solve would be enough to draw them out.

Put an end to one more thorn.
