Augurey Welcome to the Augurey Cabin Closed

Evening, 1st of August
Following the long train journey, students finally arrived at Hogwarts. They were escorted directly to the Campgrounds and registered again. It was, at this stage that they were given the rules for the month. These were pretty obvious but they were stated again by Professor Jensen, simply because she did not trust students to listen. She also wanted to be sure that the visiting students had no excuse of being 'unaware' of the rules. Where necessary, the accompanying adults from each of the schools would repeat the rules in their school's language for people who didn't have English as their first language.

Camp rules were very simple. Obey the curfew, follow usual school rules, don't wander off into the forest, don't be a giant jerk - you know, all of the usual things. Failure to comply would result in a detention, or worse, banned from attending future camps.

Eight log cabins provided lodging for campers, each one with a beast-bearing flag for which they were named. Three were the Avian cabins: Augurey, Occamy, and Phoenix. Across from these were the three Equine cabins: Thestral, Kelpie, and Unicorn. At either end were two cabins intended for adults only but for this year's festivities repurposed for student use: the Hippogriff and Dragon cabins. Those creatures occupying the enchanted flags mutely flexed in a constant show of "friendly" competition: beating wings, clacking beaks, stamping hooves, and soundlessly tossing their heads.

Every structure appeared deceptively humble in size on the outside, while the interiors were enlarged by extension charms, making them wide beyond means and quite comfortable. These were fully furnished with curtained bunks, personal chests, dressers, wood-burning stoves, and plush floor rugs. The layouts were strikingly similar to the dorm rooms back at the castle. Rather than having House themes, however, they featured nuances of the beast on their flag.

During registration, they also all received their cabin allocations. Students were then escorted to the cabins by an adult and given some time to put their bags down, secure themselves a bed and settle into the accommodation that they would be staying at for the month. The official feast was being set up and would start in about an hour. After which, they could attend the first campfire of the month if they wish to. Of course, they could just return to the cabins whenever they wanted to rest.

The group of students that arrived here would be the members of the Augurey Cabin.

The muted but beautiful furnishing of the cabin is a combination of grey-brown woods and muted green linens. What it lacks in colour, it makes up for in its serenity. An expansion charm leaves adequate, comfortable seating. [Image Link] [Image Link]. The space always smells like a field after a soft rain and when looking out the window, regardless of the weather outside a gentle patter can be heard on a tin roof that sounds like rainfall as well as evidence of a light drizzle when gazing out a window. There is something rather tranquil and serene about the whole atmosphere of these cabins. It was almost like they were on a peaceful retreat, in the middle of nowhere.

The sleeping arrangements were beds that were simple bunks, each privately curtained for some semblance of privacy [Image Link] with a personal trunk assigned to each student at the bottom of the bed. Regardless of the weather outside, the gentle patter continued at night to help people sleep to the soothing sounds of the rain.

Cass entered the cabin with her bag in hand. She believed to have found the right one. The Augurey looked like a sad phoenix to be entirely honest, but it was clear enough she felt. Cassanora wandered about the main room for a few seconds. No one else had arrived yet, perhaps due to her arriving here on her father's timetable. He'd been busy with all sorts of stuff the entire morning, and she had to get up early tog et a word with him before he left off to do whatever stuff he had planned for today. She did see his name on another cabin's register. So he likely had to go and meet and greet over there.

Next up were the beds. A series of bunks were still neatly set up, waiting to be turned into a chaotic scene not too far into the future, likely. Cass wasn't too intent on cleaning this place up like her room back home. There was no father constantly watching over her shoulder this time. She had to smirk on that, though it quickly fell back down as she wondered what Professor Cespedes was going to be like. What if he was worse...

Her eyes locked onto the nearest bed as she threw her bag on it. Guess here was only one thing left to do now: meet up with all the folks that would come in soon. She knew Angel was going to attend, so at least that was nice. Cass also felt she might have an entry point of conversation with the Hufflepuffs. Her father was their Head of House after all, they would know him, she figured. Unless they hated him, then maybe she shouldn't bring him up at all!

Then she wondered what to do... Looking around at the empty space, she got back up from the bed and returned to the more open living space. Maybe there would be food somewhere? Maddie would know what to do... Cass was still a bit sad that her best friend had decided not to come. But she'd figure something out. Maybe she could even squeeze in a visit before school started again. Maybe she could sleep over and go to their first day together.

Angél was not enthused, having been stuck on the train with all the other students and no Maddie! She was happy for her friend, but Cass had been with her father, and Angél had been left to fend for herself when Maddie was supposed to be with her. On top of that, they were the whole reason she had come in the first place!

Angél huffed as she opened the door to the cabins, her green eyes falling on Cass almost immediately. [“Finally! Do you know how horrid riding on that train was? Why couldn’t we just take our carriages? It is ridiculous! You know the nerve of Maddie just abandoning me like that!”] She sighed as she walked over and tossed her patent leather bags on whichever bunk Cass left open. No one would ever dare accuse Angél of not being dramatic. She looked around, taking in the décor of muted colors. [“Why did they bother asking us our favorite colors if they were just going to put us in a place like this? You know Cass, there better be some cute boys here to make it worth it.”]

She continued on with little pause in her small tirade. [“I’m sorry, how are you my dear? How was the trip with your father?”] A mischievous twinkle hit her eyes at the mention of Mr. Browne. While she didn’t mention it often out of respect for her friend, there was no doubt that she had a hot dad.

Nell arrived at the cabin, which hopefully was the correct one. The Augurey Cabin, was what it was called. Nell made her way inside the cabin, noticing two other girls. She knew almost immediately that they weren't from Hogwarts, but it wasn't extremely important. Nell heard one of the girls speaking... angrily? in French to the other girl. She knew French pretty well, but decided against hopping into the conversation.

Nell made her way into a different room. This room held some bunk beds, which Nell assumed were the sleeping arrangements. She wasn't exceptionally close with anyone, but she hoped to change that in the school year. For now, she had to wait for other students to arrive and gather the courage to ask one of them to be her bunkmate. Nell wasn't even quite sure who would be in the cabin with her.

She walked to the window in another room, looking outside at the gorgeous scenery. Nell was glad to be staying at this cabin, it was a beautiful location. She really enjoyed the colors here too: mute and minimalistic, but still homely. Nell heard the now very dramatic sounding girl say "Cass". It must be the other girl's name... She didn't want to eavesdrop but it was difficult when Nell both new French and the girl was speaking very, very loudly.

The blow of being separated from his brother upon registration was softened the moment Ruka realised that at least he would have Kazuo for company in his temporary home for the rest of the summer. It was a great comfort, one Ruka had immediately emphasised by reaching for his friend's hand on their way to the cabin to cling tightly to it as they walked. A comfort he had grown accustomed to since the end of the last school year, and Kazuo had yet to tell him to back off, so Ruka was happy to continue doing as he had been.

With Kazuo's hand in his own and Fuwafuwa perched proudly on his shoulder - as proud as a small grey ball of fluff could possibly look - he almost felt confident as they entered their cabin. Augurey. The Irish Phoenix. It made Ruka smile to keep his gaze locked on the greenish vulture-like bird moving on the flag decorating their accommodations. "The cry of an Augurey foretells rainfall," he told Kazuo brightly as they walked through the door, which was the moment in which he mercifully let go of his friend's hand to take a look around. Their cabin was much bigger on the inside than it had appeared to be on the outside - Anybody say TARDIS? - and his own talk of rainfall was represented by the sound of droplets pattering against the windows despite the lack of showers outside. The sound, however, was drowned out by the voice of a girl speaking to another in a language Ruka didn't understand. Guests from others schools then, he supposed.

Fuwafuwa offered a disgruntled hoot as she fluttered off his shoulder to instead settle on top of one of the bunk beds, looking disgustingly pleased with herself. "Fuwa," Ruka chided her, rolling his eyes before giving Kazuo's side a small nudge and beckoning the other boy to follow. With a few graceful steps up the ladder, Ruka tossed his belongings on the top bunk, next to his obviously comfortable owl. "Don't go thinking this is your bed now," he told her, reaching a hand out to pet her soft feathers before jumping off the ladder again to take in the interior of their cabin. It was peaceful somehow, and he felt thoroughly out of place in his Cheshire Cat hoodie. In fact, his entire wardrobe was bound to seem out of place in here but he couldn't quite bring himself to mind.

With a small smile on his face, Ruka decided to seat himself on the bottom bunk, whether Kazuo had dropped his things on it yet or not, to curiously watch the other arriving people and the two girls already in the midst of conversation. He hadn't exactly seen a lot of familiar faces on his way to the cabin, but for a change he felt alright with that. What were a few strangers as long as he could face them with pleasant company by his side.

Amelie had been reluctant to come here. She didn’t really like people enough to warrant spending a month with strangers. She supposed she was thankful that her mother had insisted on her attendance this year rather than last. At least now she knew how to handle herself and the funny looks and cruel words which people tended to throw her. In her first year, she’d been reluctant to stand up for herself, but she’d no longer take things lying down. It was better to be feared than to be scared – she didn’t want to eb the victim anymore.

So, despite her many arguments, her mother had shipped her off to another country for the summer in order to ‘make new friends’ and ‘have a good time’. Amelie wasn’t so sure, pessimistic until her dying breath. Still, she supposed the train ride here hadn’t been a complete disaster, even if her scarred face had put one or two other students off sitting in her train carriage. Perhaps this summer really could be not entirely awful. After all, she would be meeting others from all over the place – maybe even someone from her mother’s old school in France. She hoped they were less narrowminded and looks-oriented than many of those from her school.

Her thoughts had distracted her long enough for the group she’d been assigned to reach their cabin. Augurey, the most solemn looking of all the magical birds. How fitting, she thought sarcastically as she realised her face had assumed its usual look – lips slightly turned down, and eyes sharp in a small scowl. ‘Give it a chance,’ her mother’s words were the last thing she thought of when she walked into the cabin. She decided she’d take her mother’s advice, for once in her life, and give her cabin mates a chance at the very least.

The two girls she saw first, all bright smiles and quick tongues as they spoke in French – something Amelie might have been able to understand slightly if they’d just slow down, or maybe if she actually bothered to listen – seemed too much of a challenge. So, she walked past them, duffel still in hand and entered another room. Despite herself, her lips twitched upwards when she saw the bunkbeds and she was immediately filled with memories of sharing with her brother when they were younger. He brought forward a hope that this month really could be good, or at least bearable. He was proof that kindness existed within people.

Looking around her new ‘home’, Amelie decided she liked the muted colour scheme – it was calming for her, someone who very rarely felt anything but on edge when she wasn’t at home. It will be fun, she tried to convince herself as her eyes caught on a another girl with long dark hair, one who wasn’t speaking a mile a minute. Perhaps she could try to introduce herself. Her instincts weren’t telling her to run from this girl and her instincts were usually spot on. “Do you think the other cabins can also hear their conversation?” She asked before she could talk herself out of it, letting her lips form around a small almost smile.

After some of the summer spent at his grandparents' house, Alec was more than happy to getaway. Things were a mess in general. and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to get on out of there. What better way to leave the mess and walk away from it than summer camp? His summer had been stressful, with many personal issues with family members. Him becoming increasingly upset and frustrated. It was a nice thought to be aware that you were going to be able to get away for just a little while before heading off to school. Alec came with a package of new issues after this first part of his summer, therefore, bottling all his emotions and pushing them down so he could have a fun summer before the school year would be begin was worth it.

Upon getting onto the train Alec headed straight for the nail polish shoved in his bag. Trying to paint his nails while the train was moving. The result was semi-perfect nails. Good enough.

After arriving the rules were gone through and made very clear. Cabin assignments were given out and Alec had been led to the Augurey, his eyes catching all the different flags as he walked over. The flags looked as if they were charmed maybe Alec could ask and figure out if they could charm the Augurey one to make its call before the rain started. Rain was also unlikely, but it was a small world. Alec would settle for the fact that it could at least happen once. If not Alec had to figure out what the exact call was and replay it in his head for the sake of doing so.

Alec's lips peaked to a smile at his thoughts, turning into a grin as he entered the cabin. Alec standing still for a moment as he looked around, before making his way to check out every nook and cranny of the cabin. He figured it gave him some time to adjust before more people made their way over. The mute color of the cabin was calming, it put him more at ease than he was expecting. The quiet patter becoming noticeable right away. Making the rounds Alec eventually found himself by the bunk area, peeking by the doorway before entering fully.

The first thing he noticed upon entering was how everybody was clinging to those they were familiar with. Alec was pretty sure he knew by face, maybe not by name, but face a few people around here. Nell was the obvious one, his eyebrows twisted in memory of her. His stutter had not at all aided him in speaking to her.

The girls that had grouped off may have been the only ones he didn't know. He had some names, he wasn't particularly close with any of the kids here but he figured his best bet after entering the room was to take the bottom bunk one after Ruka. Setting down his bag on the bottom bunk, before quietly taking a seat on the edge of his bed.

Kazuo stifled a yawn as he followed Ruka toward their cabin, feeling too much like he’d only just left the damn school. Could he not have stayed in Tokyo for the entire break? At least he had Jack and Ruka with him even if Jack was in a different cabin. Too bad Jack had to share his cabin with a stalker but at least Jensen-sensei was their chaperone. He doubted the Slytherin Head of House - and rumoured Swedish Spy - would allow any trouble. His Magical Beasts friend, Eirian, was also in Jack’s cabin… he’d make sure to ask her to keep an eye on things.

As they’d set out across the grounds, Ruka had grabbed his hand, a frequent occurrence of late. Though it still felt strange, the casual touch that was oddly intimate, he had grown used to it. Perhaps even liked it when Ruka reached for his hand. He certainly wouldn’t have allowed it with anyone else, though. Haru let out a sleepy mrow and poked his head out from Kazuo’s hood as they reached the cabin, clawing his way onto Kazuo’s shoulder. “Just in time to see your temporary home, Haru.” He murmured to the spotted furball.

He tilted his head slightly when Ruka spoke. “Augury,” he commented, playing on the similarity of the bird’s name and the practice of reading omens. “Is the ancient Roman practice of predicting omens based on bird behaviour. Do you think that’s where the ugly duckling got its name from?” He also took a moment to look around, taking in the minimalistic feel of the cabin. The soft sound of rain reminded him of the rainy season in Tokyo and a small smile appeared on his lips for the briefest of moments before it was gone. Then his gaze was travelling over the two girls, eyes narrowing a bit as he concentrated on their foreign words. “French?” He guessed. “Beauxbatons?”

Ruka drew his attention with a nudge and he followed, studying the bunk beds with mild disapproval. They were adequate but small-looking, and it made him miss his bed back in London. Even his bed in the Scamander dorm looked more comfortable than the cubbies. Could he even read comfortably in there? He let his suitcase sit beside the bed, discarding his shoes and flopping backwards on the bed to stare up at the wood. Haru disentangled himself from Kazuo’s shoulder and immediately hopped down to explore his new environment. Kazuo’s gaze shifted to Ruka and he prodded the other boy playfully with his foot when Ruka sat down on his bed. “Our chaperone is the groundskeeper… I wonder what weirdness he has planned for us….” He mused. “Maybe he plans to make us plant trees in all those holes we dug back in June…”

He glanced over at Alec as the Gryffindor chose a bed beside them, giving him a smile. He didn’t know Alec very well but they had worked on the Ball together. Cassanora he remembered as the unfortunate victim of Santario’s immobulus spell. The other three girls were complete strangers to him, though. “Who else is in our cabin?” He asked. He hadn’t been paying attention when the cabin sorting was happening; only interested in where he, Jack and Ruka would be staying.

It had been one of the more hectic mornings of Cade's year at large. Indeed so whimsical that the poor wizard had to pinch himself to be quite sure he wasn't still sleeping. They had missed the train at Kings Cross so, in order to catch it again, his mother Peggy performed multiple side-along apparitions to various stations across the countryside. Cade nearly vomited the last time. Thankfully they had eventually beat the train to the station, and after a very confusing chat with the ticket collector and a hurried farewell, Cade was admitted onto the Hogwarts Express.

The ride was long, but Cade had the entire compartment to himself and was able to collect himself and count his appendages to make sure they had come with him and were not left behind in London or Bath. Thankfully that seemed to be the last of his troubles. However, he nearly nodded off during the camp orientation. His excitement for the next month grew when he was sorted into his cabin.

The Augurey Cabin.

Cade knew from Mystical Creatures club they had talked briefly about it. Otherwise known as the Irish Phoenix. Cade briefly wondered if that meant they would be partnered with the Phoenix cabin during the camp activities. But who was to say, it was his first time attending such an activity. Cade propped open the door with a foot and peered inside to see the room was already buzzing with students. Cade was somewhat pleased he'd recognized some faces. He could throw away the irrational fear of being completely alone. But he still wanted to make new friends. He also noted how wet the cabin sounded, and had a brief glance to the ceiling to see if anyone had accidentally set a downpour in the cabin. But the sight of dark clouds were completely absent.

Entering, Cade first looped his rucksack over his shoulder and made his way towards the bunk beds, admiring the cozy decor along the way. He noticed Kaz over the way already deep in conversation about Romans and omens. A smile pulled at Cade's lips. Kazuo always had something interesting to say about history and such things. He was one of the wisest Hufflepuffs Cade knew. He continued on, deciding to greet Kazuo later on and stopped just short of a boy who had isolated himself on a bottom bunk. That wouldn't do.

"Cool nails." Cade greeted the chestnut-haired boy. "Pack any other colors?" Cade blinked before sitting on the bottom bunk across from him. He took off his bag, setting it on the floor he started rummaging around before he found a few chocolate frogs. "Want one?" He offered after opening the small parcel with his teeth. "My name is Cade by the way. Ravenclaw."

Open for interaction with other people as well should they like.

Cassanora'a attention was immediately snatched by the incoming Angelique. She opened her mouth, but felt unable to intervene in the flood of complaints she was faced with. So, she just stood there. Listening to her friend's tirade. Her eyes briefly fell upon the other cabin inhabitants arriving at the location. Some of them giving them a stare as they walked past them. It likely must have been a sight, two Beauxbatons students talking in French, really sounded like a warm welcome to everyone.

That's why she decided to reply in English, if they were to get along with any of the other cabin members, they'd have to make sure not to exclude them by speaking French. "I think the place looks great." She smiled at Angelique and gave her a look that said, 'Is it really that bad?'. "As for Maddie, I'm sure she wanted to come. But she's pretty close to her mother, I think it's sweet she's staying behind for her. It's part of the reason why I'm here after all, I like seeing my father around."

Cass looked at some of the boys that had entered the cabin. Leaning in a bit closer, she lowered her voice into a whisper. "And boys. I'm sure you'll have your fair share to pick from." She briefly came back to her straight-up position before unexpectedly snapping back to Angel's ear. "Though don't. Bring me. Into that." Her glare was meant to make a point, though it'd be followed with a hint of a smirk.

"It was great. As usual mostly. We-" She started, but abruptly stopped as she was met with Angel's twinkling eyes. Giving her friend a look of disgust, she sighed out a faint: "Ew". She definitely needed something to drink to get that bad taste out of her mouth. "What do we have around here for drinks? I think I saw a general cooler box earlier before you barged in." She chuckled as she turned and stared to look around the corner.
