CHESS COMBAT RULES
As previously announced, this summer will feature an epic showdown between the reigning duelling champions of Hogwarts, the Viridian Vipers, and any duellists from visiting schools brave enough to challenge them!
For this, we are hosting a Chess Combat event, to see which side will prove victorious.
- Each game is a duelling contest between two teams, 5 players each.
- There will be three games happening at the same time. Whichever side (Viridian Vipers or iNPCs) wins two out of those three matches will get one stat point each (and bragging rights) as their reward.
- Duelling Rules apply, with the following exceptions:
- For ease of calculation, a player falls unconscious at 0 HP instead of at less than 10% of their maximum HP.
- The post deadline is 72 hours after each moderation. There will be no extensions.
- Actions must be sent in one owl by one member of your team to both moderators of your match.
- The game ends if either
- The opposing team's Queen is eliminated (HP dropped to 0) or
- A max number of 15 rounds is reached. If no Queen is defeated by that time, the team that has proportionally higher health wins.
Please note:
- We will use your updated stats and abilities by the time that sign-ups close.
- You can only use spells that you could learn during the previous year (via homework or RP). You can not use spells of your new year acquired after July 1.
Each player has one action per round. Possible actions are the following:
- Casting a spell: Of the allowed Duelling Spells (exceptions below), following the normal Duelling Mechanics, only in the direction their role allows them.
- Actively dodging: adding 5 + 25% of their Evasion to their Evasion roll
- Moving to a different cell: Into any empty, adjacent cell (cell has to be named as your move). A strength contest happens if two or more players are trying to move to the same cell. This action is performed after the spells of the round are cast.
Please note:
- Players can't attack opponents that stand behind other opponents (casting from behind allies' backs is allowed).
- Players can't intentionally tackle others to push them off that way. It is not allowed and will lead to disqualification.
Reducio
Spell Clarifications
- Bullarum Immortalem, Fumos and Nebulus can be assigned to cells on the battlefield rather than players and will affect anyone stepping into that cell.
- Bullarum Immortalem can be cast at a cell on the battlefield and would require a Hit Check based on the distance from the caster to the cell (if in line of sight).
- Fumos affects 4 random cells around the caster, prioritising the players.
- Nebulus affects 4 cells of the caster's choice in a range of 2 cells around the caster. Those 4 cells have to be adjacent to each other.
- Flipendo can be used to knock back/forward a player (either an opponent or an ally) by 1 cell if there's no one behind that player (if the Move action won't be possible after the knockback, it's discarded).
- Wingardium Leviosa blocks the Move action (besides the Dodge), but the target can still be knocked back by a Flipendo.
Abilities
Ability effects apply as outlined in the Duelling Guide to Race and Abilities.
(Note: The abilities from the new patch have not yet been added to this. For now, for the new and updated abilities (Impartial, Paragon of Health, changes to Healing Sage and Sixth Sense), please refer to the general list of abilities. This will be updated soon.)
