Peaceful, it was the only way Aldor could describe this day, there wasn't much that the boy could complain about, he woke up with a nice feeling of being relaxed, last night was strangely quiet, his room mates were not snoring like they usually did, and for some reason, he actually slept well, instead of going to the lake and taking a nap on the grass, he went directly to the library, he was supposed to meet his new friend Cosmo there.

The last time they talked was at dinner the night before, everything went surprisingly well, and this made Aldor feel like he was finally back into his comfort zone, instead of staying in his bubble he decided to do an effort to talk to his new friend, she wasn't here yet, so he thought that maybe sitting and reading a book would be nice.

Today, the library was specially silent, no one seemed to be whispering to their friends, or writing aggresively as they tried to finish some delayed homework, today it was mostly empty, except for a few students who were already reading or going out to mind their own bussiness.

The librarian was also there, miss Simmons, and the House Elves which helped students find the book they would be looking for, he has never really had a conversation with the librarian apart of asking where a book was, but he admired her work, after all, being the guardian of the thing that Aldor loves the most would probably make him adore her.

And so, the boy began searching for something new to read. Aldor had an uncanny ability to finish books in mere days, some could think that he never really payed attention to them, but the people who were close to him knew better, he had the habit of reading books over and over, taking in the information quite easily. For this same reason, Aldor never requested to take a book out of the library, he didn't need to, he could just read it right there effortlesly.

Among the thousands of books, he asked one of the elves if he could have one about a Muggle topic, botany, to be specific, Aldor was curious, he never went to school when he was still in a Muggle family, and living beings were part of the things that interested him the most, he could clearly study that wonderful book, 'One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi'. But instead he decided to read about how Muggles classified their plants.

So he went to one of those wonderful and comfortable arm chairs and sat down, waiting silently for what he requested. When he received it, he thanked the elf and opened the book, the first thing he saw was tulips, he had seen them before, but this time he seemed mesmerized by them, so symmetrical and elegant, they seemed like the kind of thing someone from royalty would use as part of a fancy attire.

Cosmo woke bright and early on Wednesday morning, and it took her a second to remember why she felt an excitement thrumming through her bones. Then it came, she was meeting Aldor again! The previous night after talking Cosmo had laid in bed, planning out the next day. She had decided that even if flowers were an odd gift to bring, they were the best she had. Summer had just started, after all, and her only other options had been food or a book, but she didn't know enough about Aldor to choose something he would definitely like. So flowers it was. Before leaving she remembered to add The Nargun and the Stars to her bag, then it was straight outside into the crisp morning air.

The grass glistened and dampened Cosmo's feet as she wandered, gathering an abundance of flowers and long willowy branches to weave into a beautiful crown. There was light purple heather, small white mountain avens, tiny star like moss campions and delicate ladies smock. They nestled together against lush green leaves, to form a delightful gradient of pastel pinks and purples. Once she had made two (because how could she not make one for herself) she sat outside, soaking in the morning sun and waiting for the dew to dry from her creations. Then she dragged herself back indoors, but not before gently tucking the flower crowns into her bag, on top of everything so as not to get crushed.

Then it was a flurry of breakfast and classes, and the first time Cosmo managed to get away was at lunch. She raced through the corridors, and up the stairs until she arrived at the library, windswept with flushed cheeks. This part of the castle was an almost completely foreign area to her, as Cosmo had only popped her head into the Library once or twice. She meandered her way between shelves, wondering where Aldor might be as she deliberately slowed her breathing to a more regular pace.

Eventually Cosmo began to give up hope of ever finding her new friend among the towering piles of books and small nooks, but then she spotted him; sitting quietly, in his element with a book propped open. It brought a smile to her lips, partly from relief but mostly because he looked so comfortable in comparison to the night before. She walked around slightly to make sure she was approaching head on so as not to startle Aldor, and noticed the book he was reading. It was fitting that it was about flowers, but that intrigued Cosmo, the idea that anyone would read something so obscure for fun confused her.

"Hey Aldor," she greeted, a big happy grin on her face, "I'm sorry I didn't manage to get here earlier, how has your morning been?"

Cosmo swung her bag off and flopped down on a chair opposite the Hufflepuff boy. There would be time for flower crowns and books later, for now she wanted to check in.

''Hey Cosmo-''

The irish boy smiled softly as he closed the book he was reading and placed it on the table, he tilted his head slightly, paying all of his attention to his new friend, he looked very calm, almost as if nothing could kick him down, this might make Cosmo realize that yesterday's true problem was the amount of people around them, but today was different, it was mostly quiet, and after all, he spent more time here than he did at the Hufflepuff dorms.

''Don't worry, you aren't late at all, I just came here a little early.''

He wasn't lying, he came in around an hour before Cosmo did, but it was very clear Aldor was patient, he did tell her the night before, that she wouldn't have to be worried about the time she was free, that he would wait for her either way.

''I guess my morning was alright. Just what I usually do, reading a new book and such- What about you, were classes fine today?''

He did seem to really care about what Cosmo had to say, maybe it was because he just enjoyed listening to people a lot, or maybe it could just be that he honestly just really cared about her thoughts, he might not say it out loud, but it was probably the second one. Something about Cosmo just made Aldor want to stay close to her. She was just so kind that Aldor couldn't yet understand why she acted like this, maybe she was like this with everyone, or maybe she simply saw Aldor struggling and felt sorry for him.

Either way, it wasn't time to feel worried about those things, a wonderful friend was speaking to him, and he wasn't going to let his own overthinking mind ruin this for both of them, so he leaned forward a little, doing his best to keep as much eye contact as he could, listening to her. Today was going to be different he just knew it.

Aldors change in behaviour did seem quite drastic to Cosmo. When she remembered how the boy fidgeted and blushed last night compared to now, sitting calmly with a soft smile she wondered briefly what could cause such a shift. At first she thought it might be that he knew her better now, but another option was the change in location or lack of people. No matter why he was more comfortable now, Cosmo was glad.

"Aah that's so good to hear, although something tells me you wouldn't mind spending longer in the Library anyhow," she gave a playful wink. It did worry her a little that she loved spending time outdoors so much and Aldor was most comfy spending time indoors, but she was sure they would work it out. Maybe she could set up a secluded outdoor library on the grounds somewhere books wouldn't get wet. Cosmo found herself planning the seating and where to find books which no one would mind being stored outside before she remembered Aldor's question.

"Classes were fine! Just a flurry of getting from one place to another and trying not to forget any books or quills along the way," Cosmo reached down into her bag, fishing out both the flower crowns, "I did make this for you before breakfast though!" she brushed apart the few petals which had stuck together before presenting it to Aldor.

Cosmo wasn't exactly nervous, but she did watch closely for his reaction, hoping he liked it. Her only other interaction with boys her age had been with one muggle friend back home, so her knowledge was very slightly lacking to say the least. If she thought about it hard enough, Cosmo probably could have realised that not many boys would appreciate a flower crown, particularly at their age. Unaware of this, she smiled softly placing her own crown atop her head.

"It's okay if you don't like it," she assured, "I've made loads before and even if you do like it you don't have to wear it."

Aldor's eyes widened as he saw the gift that his friend Cosmo had prepared for him, a shy smile started to show on his face, the crown was absolutely delightful, the balance of the colors made it look like something that would be part of a really nice painting, he gently took the gift from Cosmo's hands, his hands were cold, really cold.

Somehow these flowers reminded him of his old home, he didn't have many memories about the time he lived with his parents and siblings, but one thing he remembers very clearly, was going on for short walks with his siblings whenver they had time. They picked up flowers and took them back home to surprise their parents.

This changed rapidly, his brother begun working and barely spent time at home, and his sister went through many changes, she started making more and more friends, so many that she barely spent time home, and if she was home, she was doing homework or talking with her friends over the phone.

And things went even worst once his First Instance of magic happened. He tried to keep up his smile, he was not going to cry, he would not allow himself to do it, he would keep his act going.

''Thanks, but I will keep it, I love flowers, and it's even more special because you made it-.''

Aldor's face went a bit red as he placed the crown over his head, the color did look good on him, his long ginger hair and the colors of his eyes seemed to pop out a lot more, he looked better when he was blushing than most of the time, his pale skin was probably a mix of not receiving sunlight and not eating properly, but when he blushed, he looked so full of life and joy.

''Does it look good on me?''

The Hufflepuff chuckled quietly as he looked back to Cosmo, his smile didn't seem fake, this showed that he was honestly happy with the gift that his friend made, he hoped he could repay this some day.

A sigh of relief escaped Cosmo when she saw Aldor smile. She hadn't known she was holding her breath, but she was really glad he liked the flowers. Her relief turned slowly to concern as she first felt Aldors cold, cold hands, and second saw his smile falter. Cosmo didn't know the boy well enough yet, but if she wasn't mistaken he appeared to be holding back tears. Could a flower crown really do all that? She shook her head slightly, telling herself that if he wanted to, Aldor would talk to her about his emotions.

"Oh that is so sweet, I'm really pleased you like it," Cosmo smiled warmly, hoping she didn't make him uncomfortable with her next question. "Are you cold? Your hands feel freezing! I can make you gloves if you want, what's your favourite colour?" now it was Cosmo's turn to blush, she always seemed to jump two steps ahead from excitement which was usually okay, but she had promised herself to try and be a little more restrained with Aldor.

"Yes it does look really really good, I'm glad you like it. Now we match!" Cosmo grinned back at the Hufflepuff, and reached down into her bag once more, pulling out The Nargun and the Stars. "I didn't forget this, we don't have to read now of course, but it's here for whenever," she wiggled happily a few times in her seat, getting the slight antsy feeling she had whenever she'd been indoors for too long. She pushed it away and focused instead on Aldor.

"So why were you reading about tulips?"

''Oh I- Like lavender''

He answered her question about his favorite color, but he did it in a way that it sounded like he was rather confused about something than determined about what color he preffered, to Cosmo, this wouldn't be very obvious, but Aldor knew that the fact someone offered him a gift was sort of strange, specially with someone who he bassicaly he just met, of course, he couldn't say that he never received gifts, but he didn't feel like it was right to receive all of the time and never give something in exchange. He still wants to make it up for her.

''B-ut don't worry, my hands are always cold, it's nothing to worry about.''

The boy gave her a warm smile as he watched his friend place the book that they talked about in dinner on the table, trying his best to make Cosmo forget the topic of how cold his hands were, he didn't like that people worried for him so much, he wasn't sure if he even deserved it, of course, Aldor had the tendency to worry as much as they did, maybe even more.

''Well, I am reading about all kinds of plants, or well, how Muggles separate them into groups and classes and their uses, it's strange, a few of the plants mentioned on this book are described in some books for potion making, but apparently Muggles can't actually use these plants to create potions, even if they tried.''

He paused, thinking that he should give an honest answer instead of letting his nerdy side take over, he knew that curiosity wasn't the only thing that drove him to read anything, nostlagia was a powerful force.

''But honestly, I think I am just reading about them because I really like tulips, the wonderful colors, the perfects shapes, how full of life they look- They remind me of my siblings, I think that's the main reason to why I am reading about them.

He gave her a shy smile, pretending that he was fine talking about this topic, he wasn't, fine was probably the last thing he would call that topic. But if Cosmo chose to talk about it, he wasn't going to tell to not do so, he made many mistakes along the way, but he wasn't going to mess up this time, his friends were first, they were important.

They were his family.

There was a brief moment when Cosmo wondered why someone might not know their favourite colour, but she quickly decided to disregard Aldor's hesitation. In her brief experience with him so far he often had a lot of feelings she couldn't interpret. It was even possible he just didn't like gloves.

"Oh, okay then! As long as they're not uncomfy," she said breezily, looking down at his hands. His smile set her at ease, and Cosmo continued with the conversation happily.

"That's very interesting! My mum is a muggle, and we have lots of muggle plants in our garden but I've never heard of them being put in groups before, I guess there's vegetables and fruits and flowers..." Cosmo looked off into the distance for a moment, trying to think what other groupings there might be, but soon gave it up.

"I've definitely never seen mum making a potion, but she does make a lot of cool muggle medicines with our plants! That's kind of like a potion I guess," she laughed, trying to imagine her mum bent over a cauldron. Before coming today Cosmo had been worried about being comfortable indoors with Aldor but as the conversation continued she found that she was interested in what they were talking about, and that was enough to make her comfortable.

"Oh wow! That is so sweet," Cosmo hadn't imagined Aldor having siblings, and for a moment she had a hard time wrapping her head around the idea, "I don't have any brothers or sisters, but I wish I did," she sighed, lamenting her lonely childhood a little bit. She figured that at least she was making up for it with friends now, and glanced up at the flowers nestled against his bright hair. She was definitely making up for it now. Thankfully for Aldor, Cosmo skimmed past his siblings, intending to ask him about it later. For now she was excited about listening to someone read again and as she felt the conversation seemed to come to a close she pushed forward the Nargun and the Stars.

"If you still want to read I'm excited! Look I even brought something to do!" She tugged out a small diary and flipped quickly through the pages, showing Aldor a variety of sketches - some in lead and others in colour. "Do you mind if I draw you while you read?" She asked, hopeful smile in place.

''D-Draw me?''

The boy would let out a nervous chuckle, he wasn't sure if he was more flattered or nervous, he wasn't going to tell her no, was he? He tried not to focus on this too much, after all, how much harm could it be to have someone draw him?

''Sure? I guess.''

He gently picked up the book, opening it and treating it with such care that it seemed like he was dealing with a fragile living being, Aldor seemed to inspect every inch of the book, almost as if he was checking if the book was intact, to his amusement, it was, he'd never seen a book in such a wonderful condition apart of the ones kept in Hogwarts, of course.

''The Nargun and the stars, Prologue.''

The boy cleared his throat, trying his best to soften up his voice, he was a little embarassed, the last time he ever read out loud for anyone, was when he was 6, his aunt was making sure to give him some basic studies since he wasn't able to go to school, her studying was bassically asking Aldor to read some of the books she wrote, eventually, Aldor found the joy of not only reading about fables, magic lamps and anything that his aunt wrote, there was a whole world of books and authors out here, and one of the first books that showed him this, was The Nargun and the stars.

'' 'It was night when the Nargun began to leave. Deep down below the plunging walls of a gorge, it stirred uneasily. It dragged its slow slow weight to the mouth of its den; its long, wandering journey had begun.-' ''

And so, he kept reading with a gentle voice, smiling brightly as he looked back at Cosmo every once in a while to see what she was doing, his face was red, just the thought of being able to read this book again, and having the chance to read it to someone who liked it this much was quite fun.

Cosmo smiled at Aldor's reaction, she had asked several people to be her models before and it was quite common that they became a little shy. She was glad that it hadn't upset the Hufflepuff boy too much. Nodding her thanks, she placed her pencil on the paper and watched Aldor carefully as he inspected her book. She wanted to capture how gentle his motions were, and how sweet and timid he seemed in person. As Aldor continued to read, Cosmo drew. Three quick sketches in a row to learn his angles and then she slowed down, focusing on her fourth drawing to make it as good as possible.

There was something about sitting quietly and listening to Aldor's soft voice that brought Cosmo a very rare calm, and the longer they spent sitting together the more relaxed each muscle became. Memories flooded back to Cosmo of her childhood, and a delightful mix of contentment and nostalgia rushed up in her chest. By the time her sketch was finished Cosmo was content to just sit and listen, something which was very rare for the excitable young Gryffindor. Before she knew it Cosmo's eyes had gently closed, and she drifted in and out of consciousness while Aldor read.
