Letters To The Unknown
Alec's eyes stared at the parchment. He'd been working on the letter for almost an hour. He wasn't sure how to put anything into words. Usually eloquent in his writing, but as of recent. Alec had been at a block. This letter was possibly him reaching out. A vent almost, he had thought about who it was going to. Just so it would go to someone somewhere. But even that had it holding things back. What he'd decided on by the end was that he was just going to keep it.
The vent of a letter, though little things he knew how to explain had made him feel better. For that he was thankful. Yet what he didn't know was as he left the owlery that day after deciding not to send it off was that the letter, its envelope, and all had fallen out of his hands. Now in the hands of a stranger
The Messy LetterDear...
I think it's fairly easy to say, I don't know what I'm doing. An interesting way to start off a letter. I must admit, I never thought I'd be writing one like this. Is it too terrible to admit I haven't known what I've been doing for a long while? Getting into Gryffindor was such a blind point. I didn't think I'd able to get into anything except Slytherin. The expectations of those around me caused it.
I was shy, I think I still am. Yet I behave so much differently now it's hard to tell who I was back than. My thought process was so different. Stuttering and all, I was nervous about making friends. I was released into an an atmosphere I'd never been in before. My first year would have been a lot more different if I had taken the time to think about things for myself.
I've had to learn to show pride for a house I never thought would be mine. I'm still working on the pride but I'm getting there. Gryffindor is known for so many great things. It's hard not to stay proud.
Acceptance can be hard, I've been a little down lately. It's hard to talk about it with the people around me. Sometimes I worry about bothering them, they have a life, I would rather not drop a million issues onto them. There's much too many things to be worried and upset about. I find it hard to understand why bad things happen.
The divorce feels like it's splitting everything. I was never close with my parents, they were always busy. But getting back from winter break now, and everything feels so weird. I feel like I've been kicked in the stomach, and trust me, I know what that feels like. Everything seems to be shifting in impossible ways. They seemed to be directed to moved every which and way to confuse me, the thought makes me dizzy. It's driving me crazy because I still can't figure out how to explain it all on paper.

This totally lovely and not at all messy and quickly written rant letter would soon enough be found in @Everly Charlton's hands

Letters To The Unknown
==backdated to first year @Alec Mason==Everly somehow, miraculously, managed to find herself a letter. It was closed, and as far as she could tell, it wasn't addressed to anyone either. Everly rarely found unaddressed, sealed letters without an owner in sight, so she wasn't quite sure what to do - after all, she was there to owl someone else, not snoop in others' privacy. But still, it was unaddressed - what if it needed to get somewhere? She wrestled with herself internally, but still pocketed the envelope.
After delivering the letter she was there to send, Everly sat down on one of the benches. She was highly aware of the letter in the pocket, still feeling somewhat guilty. Everly pulled it out, and trying not the think too much about it, carefully pried the piece of parchment out, doing her best not to rip it. Eventually she got it out, letter still intact, and began to read.
Even after finishing the letter, it took a few moments for the words to sink in. Everly desperately wanted to help - the person writing it seemed so sad, but honestly, Everly didn't know if there was any way she could help. Without knowing who had wrote it, and with the added bonus of the fact that they might not appreciate Everly sticking her nose into their business, Everly was a bit helpless with what to do. She came to the conclusion that she had to write back - after all, it was a letter, and that's what you do with a letter. And if they didn't appreciate it, Everly would respect that, and leave them alone, but she would try her hardest to make them feel a bit better, at the least.
And so she put ink to parchment, and tried her best to write a letter back.Dear Possibly Not From This Planet,
Hi there! - I'm not sure if you intended for someone to respond or not, but I suppose I'm going to either way. I hope this cheers you up, and I do hope that you manage to find a way to figure things out.
Don't worry, it's completely fine to not know what you're doing! In fact, sometimes I find myself in the same situation. But know that no matter what house you got in, that doesn't define you. I got here having no idea whatsoever what house I would get in, and it turns out, Gryffindor really did fit me, I guess. The Sorting Hat knew what it was doing - even if others expect something out of you, it doesn't shape you. I'm sure there was an important reason you were sorted into the house you were!
It's completely normal to have changed! It means you get to learn from what happened before. After all, it does no good to dwell too long on the past. I'm going to be honest though, I do think a lot about how things could have turned out different if I'd just changed the way I did them, or if I just hadn't done that one thing, but that doesn't mean that the version you were was necessarily bad. And don't worry, it completely makes sense that you were nervous during your first year here. I remember at the start of the year I was a complete mess. It took quite a lot for me to work up the nerve to even talk to others. But it wasn't a bad thing - I got to see how it could have been if the Today version of me was the younger me, and I realize that it changed me, but for the better. And being shy isn't a bad thing either. Try not to think about it too much, and remember that just because you were someone before doesn't mean that it's a bad thing to change.
Once again - I'm sure that there's a right reason you were sorted into the house you were! It means something, and even if it wasn't expected, your house still doesn't define you. Being accepted isn't the most important thing - it does feel really nice, I get that, and if you do feel like that, remember that you can always talk it out with others. People who you're close to and who you rely on will talk to you with your problems, and try their best to help you with them. But not to pressure you into talking to others! I also find that writing them down helps as well. Even if parchment isn't someone who talks back, sometimes it's nice to see it in front of me, and be able to express my thoughts without others seeing it. Either one works for me, but there are many other ways to help cope with problems as well. Bad things happen for a while, but there's always a way out.
That does sound really tough, though, and I don't blame you for feeling that way about it. It's completely understandable. It does feel really murky right now, but everything will work out in the end. Your parents still love you and care for you, even if it doesn't seem like that. It might help to talk with them or with someone else who's experienced the same kind of thing before, or once again, try writing about it, but even if you don't want to do either of those, just know that it will turn out alright in the end. I can't imagine how that might feel, and I'm truly sorry for you. Everything must feel so weird. But I can reassure you - even if it ends badly, even if it doesn't work out the way you think it will, people out there still care for you, and it's not the end of the world. It took a long time for the words to appear on the paper. It was hard for Everly to write this letter, not because of it's length, nor because of the fact that Everly had never written anything like this before, but because of the way she was writing. She'd never tried to comfort anyone over letters like this, and she wouldn't know how they'd respond. All Everly could do was hope for the best.
Everly was about to send it, when she realized she'd forgotten to sign it. The person didn't seem to want to include their name, so perhaps Everly would keep with that - it was just a matter of figuring out what name to leave. Something came to mind, perhaps a bit cheesy, but it was the motto of the letter, and it was also a name she'd always liked, so she scribbled it down at the end.
Hope.lowkey proud of myself xD
