Finishing Up Homework

" Well... I like playing the violin, street fighting, playing football- American football, baseball, Quiddithc, and solving and learning Muggle physics. "
Mentioning/Interacting: @Tory Williamson Outfit #666
It was a lot, and probably not what normal Hogwarts students liked. But then again, she'd heard of random witches and wizards going around eating worms and slugs. She doubted that was normal. Apart from potion making- that was one of the finer arts of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It seemed easy enough- just throw some ingredients in a cauldron and do some stirring- but after she'd made her first potion, Suzuki took back that thought. Although she did like making potions, her lack of organization made everything a tad harder.
The ball. Suzuki hadn't given much thought to the ball- she'd heard a bunch of girls in the common room squealing about dresses- like she'd ever be caught in a dress. Dresses greatly decreased mobility, and mobility was something necessary in everyday life. Imagine running in nine centimeter flats and a whole meter of flowy stretchy fabric.
" Probably just the school uniform, minus the robes and plus a vest. You?" She didn't care what she looked like that much, or at all, really. It wasn't like she was going with anyone. All Suzuki had to do was stand, maybe eat a little, and read. Then she wouldn't have to suffer the embarrassment of not carrying out a dare.

Tory just listened as Suzuki mentioned a bunch of sports (or she thought they were sports, she actually had no idea), that she hadn’t ever heard of, but decided not to say anything. I mean, she wanted to, she was awfully curious about what the heck “baseball” was, but thought it would be to much of a bother to ask Suzuki about it. Tory wouldn’t lie, it was a bit concerning that her fellow Gryffindor actually enjoyed street fighting, but eh, whatever floated her boat.
Being cooped up in a little cottage miles away from any civilization her whole life, the girl was clueless about any non-magical activity. Thus, Tory had no idea as to what “football” and “baseball” were. Taking a wild guess, she’d assume that football was when you had to run around with your foot stuck in a ball. She laughed to herself as she imagined Suzuki madly attempting to run around a field with her foot in a ball. In fact, maybe, just maybe, the other players threw balls at you as you were running. That was even more funny, and the first year found herself laughing harder as she added balls being pelted with balls meanwhile struggling to run.
Only when Suzuki’s next question come did Tory finally catch her breath (though it took great effort, she had been wheezing). She could easily see her friend going with something simple like the school uniforms, you didn’t need to put much effort into wearing something like that. “Oh, I don’t know yet, my grandma sent me this dark green dress she made, so I might wear that, I guess. I also have these sandles I think would go well, and my mum taught me how to do a bun over Easter break.” She answered, though stopping herself when she realized how excited she sounded, how she kind of rambled. “Er-” Was all she said next, looking down at the ground, where her feet were covered by Suzuki’s too-long robe.
“I didn’t expect for myself to be so excited for the ball, honestly. I don’t know why I am..” She shrugged. “The whole thing has just been so mysterious so far, all the posters and what not, I guess that’s why. Mysterious things are endearing to me.” Tory stayed quiet now, looking back up at Suzuki and then glancing down at her still unfinished essay. Yeah, she really had to finish that. Rolling up the lengthy sleeves of her red and black robe and dipping her quill back into the ink, she set all her attention to this pretty much blank piece of parchment, letting the silence of the room consume her and beginning to write, nearly falling asleep on her paper twice of boredom.

Here it was again. That maniacle fit of laughter. Suzuki thought Williamson might bust a gut laughing- she looked like she could barely breathe. Worse was the fact that Suzuki had no idea what she was laughing at- or who she was laughing at. Never mind. It didn't really matter.
Tapping her finger on the table, Suzuki quickly brought her essay to an end, rereading it quickly and stuffing it back into her case. No more of that. Pulling out more assignments, she listened to Williamson blab on about her outfit. It sounded nice- much nicer than what Suzuki was originally planning to wear.
Bending down to search for a textbook, she noticed how her robe was way too long for Williamson. Oh, well. Genetics. Suzuki was way above average in terms of height for someone her age, but she preferred being tall to short. Compared to her mother, who was probably almost 7 feet, the majority of people were just short.
Bringing out the rumpled textbook, she flipped it open. Suzuki listened to Williamson talk about the mysteriousness of the festival. She herself knew all about what would happen- heck, she was helping plan it, but didn't say anything.
" Sounds nice. What are you planning to do over summer break? It's pretty soon."
While Suzuki looked forward to the summer, she also dreaded it. Spending every day in that stupid dusty house, in a room she was too lazy to clean. It would be quite a boring summer, especially with most of her other 'friends' out at some exotic place like Hawaii enjoying the sun. Christian, a close family friend, would be away slaving away for the Ministry, much like her mother.
Summer wasn't really something she looked forward to anymore.

Tory was in such focus on her essay -which she had fortunately finished at last - that she fell out of her chair in shock at the sound of Suzuki’s voice, rubbing her head grumpily as she helped herself off the ground. " Sounds nice. What are you planning to do over summer break? It's pretty soon." She had said, and Tory heaved out a bored sigh, still rubbing her bumped head. Ugh. Summer. Before Hogwarts, her life had pretty much been, well, routinely, to say the least. The only thing that changed each day was the weather and what books she was reading. She had spent all day, all year, alone, with her cat, Jammy. But now that she was at Hogwarts, she had made friends (and some enemies), and she had been more social, and discovered what her interests were. Going back home for 2 whole months and spending the entire time reading by herself just didn’t seem very fun anymore. “I’ll probably just sit around all day by myself like I do every year.” She said sadly, shaking her head.
“I wish my mum would at least bring me on a holidayvacation or two, but no, she’s always working.” She glanced down at the ground yet again. “And you?” She hoped Suzuki would be at the summer camp in August, but until then, Tory was awfully curious about what she would do. Probably run around town beating up a bunch of street rats because they pissed her off. Yeah, that was definitely realistic. And playing that ball-stuck-in-a-foot game. After the blossom ball, there was nothing exciting going on for Tory, which sucked.
It made her sweat already to think about sitting around her house all day in the sweltering heat of July. It wasn’t that being home was the issue; it was being alone with her cat for the heftier portion of the sunny days. At her house, there were meadows, and a forest, and a pretty pond that had tons of grindylows and fish and other creatures swimming about in it. She was really, and definitely needed her alone time, but still enjoyed spending time with people, so being completely and utterly by herself wasn’t really something to look forward to.
She finally brought her eyes back to Suzuki’s misty grey ones, as her covered up feet were getting a bit tiring to just stare at. Signing yet again and reading over her essay, Tory attempted to divert her attention from the matter of her completely boring, exhausting, lonely summer.

Suzuki could sympathise with Williamson- her described summer sounded like Suzuki's next few summers. Apart from running around in London doing who-knows-what, there wasn't really anything else she really had to do, apart from practicing violin, maybe playing a few scrimmages with the neighbourhood kids- or at least, the remaining neighbourhood kids, and doing homework.
" Same here. My mom's way too busy to even come home, ever, so I'll probably just spend it wasting away in my room with a few books or something."
She had looked forward to the rumoured trip to their family home in Japan, but honestly, now that she thought about it more, it didn't seem likely. Her mother barely had time to stay away from the Ministry office for one minute, much less a whole month or something.
Maybe if Chris didn't have so much work at the Ministry, his mother would take them to Germany, or France again. Hopefully.
Probably not.
Suzuki wished the Ministry of Magic didn't exist. It was quite a bother at times. She continued scribbling on the parchment, bored of doing stupid homework. She had a lot more assignments, too, so it didn't look like she'd be free of them anytime soon.

The idea hit Tory like a truck. A light suddenly flickering on in her head. She could invite her fellow Gryffindor friend round to come visit her during the summer for a few days! That way they'd both be less alone. Suzuki was going to be bored and lonely all summer, she was going to be bored and lonely all summer, it only made sense. She figured that Suzuki would enjoy it at her home.
There was a pond, where she could fish if she wanted, and it was surrounded by woods and meadows that they could run and play in all day. Maybe Suzuki could even teach Tory a few of her strange muggle foot-in-a-ball games! Already starting to plan out how the entire meetup would go, the 12 year old remembered she hadn’t even asked yet. Right. How was she supposed to go about this? Just randomly say “oh yeah, come stay at my house for a few days in the summer, maybe”? Or did she have to be more precise. Maybe something like “Wanna come stay with me in the summer? You’d arrive via floo powder at exactly 3:08 PM on a Tuesday afternoon-“ no, no, that was way to specific.
Taking a breath, Tory realized she was probably way over thinking this. It was just Suzuki, not the minister of magic. “So um- I was wondering- would ya wanna come stay with me a couple days in the summer? It’d be fun, we have woods, and a pond, and like 7 different flower filled meadows…” She squeaked. Wow, way to sound confident She noted to herself in a sarcastic tone. She wouldn’t admit it, but the lion was really hoping that her friend would say yes. It would not only give her something to look forward to, but also some social interaction with people other than her mother and cat.
Glancing at the clock hanging high on the wall of the small room, Tory noticed that it was almost dinner, which was wonderful. She was starving and bored. Dinner sounded heavenly. Speaking of food, one other thing that she was absolutely not excited for during the summer was her meals. Her mum was a fine cook, but since she was always so busy at work, the Gryffindor mostly just had drink a class of milk and have a piece of cold bread for breakfast. Dinner wasn’t much better, usually just a peanut butter & jelly.
Suzuki couldn’t fix the food, but she could keep her company, at least. Fingers and toes crossed, she glanced at the taller of the two with pleading eyes.

It was certainly strange; a person she'd almost just met inviting her over their house for the summer. Suzuki studied the girl, trying fruitlessly to deduct her true intentions. She stopped abruptly- she sucked at that stuff.
"Sure, thanks." It was nice of her- and would probably make both of their summers less of a bore. Suzuki gave the girl a slight eye smile- the thing where it looked like her eyes were smiling but the rest of her face didn't change.
"Where do you live, anyway? I live in London." From the girl's overall feel and accent, Suzuki assumed she was from somewhere in England, although these things didn't really mean anything. Suzuki herself originally didn't have the accent- instead having a slight Japanese accent, but that soon wore off. She halfheartedly wondered if she should invite Williamson to her house, but reconsidered on two accounts. One, she lived in the middle of London- there was nothing but dry slabs of concrete and brick for miles, tiny little shops with weirdly priced goods- plus, this girl had probably been to London before to get on the Hogwarts Express.
Second, no one except Suzuki was ever home. Her mother was always away, and she kind of doubted Williamson wanted to deal with the likes of the neighbourhood kids, and Christian and his new job at the ministry.

If she was being completely honest, Tory hadn't actually expected Suzuki to say yes to her offer. She had never asked anybody something like this before, so she had just naturally assumed the fellow Gryffindor would either say 'no' or just not say anything at all. Getting more and more excited by the minute, the girl thought about all the fun she and Suzuki were going to have, all the memories they were ought to make. They'd probably end up reading through every single book in her house, explore every meadow, and discover a new species of butterfly. It was going to be so great. All they needed now was both their mother's approval and a confirmed way of transportation for Suzuki to get to her house (Floo Powder, most likely).
"Ok, great! I'm excited! Let me write down the address and stuff-" Said Tory, smiling wide like a doofus. She was probbaly smiling too much. Now she looked creepy. Oh well, she didn't care if Suzuki thought her to be creepy much, anyway. She reached to rip off a piece of parchment, then dipping her quill in the ink and carefully scribbling down her address and mother's name. 34 Oakosby Avenue. Where she had lived her entire life, from before she could walk to now. While at school, she had missed the place dearly, and her heart ached to see it again. She only had 2 more months left before being shipped back to her mother, which excited her to see her home again and made her sad to leave Hogwarts at the same.
This place had really become home over the last year, and she assumed most others felt the same way.
Tory glanced at the clock. It seemed to be moving one milimeter a second. She wished time would go faster. She wished the Blossom Ball was over. She wished it was summer already. And most of all, she wished she was back at home with Suzuki visiting already.
