Determination Quidditch Gryffindor v Hufflepuff

The lioness watched as her Bearter partner, Scarlett, finally struck a perfect hit at the most nimble Hufflepuff, Lindsey. "Wicked job, Scarlett!", Griseldis cheered, and now it was her turn to give their rival one last strike off the broom. However, maybe due to too much excitement that it did affect her aim at the target. The hit was powerful, but that was when Griseldis realized she completely hit at a slightly different direction. Despite how weak the Hufflepuff was, she was still able to evade the attack.

"Aaw man! Sorry about that, I'll try to concentrate better next time.", Griseldis said to Scarlett with a sheepish smile, then turned to look back at their target. There was no time to regret but to continue.

Scarlett focused on what she was meant to be doing, rather than scanning the field for updates. Tuning out the crowd's noise, the commentator's remarks and the lashing rain and booming thunder (which was damn near impossible), Scarlett bent down and flew towards a nearby Bludger, getting close enough for her to spring up from her flattened position on her broom to hit the ball to Lindsey's direction.

This time was different. This time it actually hit Lindsey and it looked pretty painful. Scarlett winced at hurting a good friend, but hey, it was just revenge for Lindsey's headshot at her. The Bludger rebounded towards the two older Hufflepuff players and hit them hard as well. Though none of the badgers fell, they were weakened and that was good enough for Scarlett. Gris didn't quite hit, but it didn't really matter, because there was always next time. She had missed plenty as well. "Nah, it's all good! People mess up all the time and it turns out fine in the end," said Scarlett, with a tilt of her head as she flew near Gris before flying off again to continue the game.

Much to Akari's excitement a few more goals were made, putting them in an even better position with each one. More cheering erupted from the small girl as she saw what was continuing to unfold. She hoped that all this meant that this harsh battle of a game would be coming to a close soon, for she knew if it was her up there she would be starting to get rather tired by now.

Still a chance. They hadn’t really lost yet. Everything could change within seconds - this world changed much more rapidly then what you might think.

Evading one bludger and being hit by one, she felt a little hurt, but it was not enough to knock her off her broom - as well as knocking her determination off. Not enough. Howard was delivered back to his broom safely, and Stanley seemed busy searching for the snitch. Still a chance. Still a chance. She gripped her broom handle tightly. “We’ve got this…”

The chase of the snitch through the persistently torrential weather brought with it a spike of adrenaline. There wasn't a single article of clothing upon Evelynn's form that didn't cling uncomfortably to her in a state of oversaturation that chilled her to the bone. Even still, it wasn't for cold that gooseflesh erupted across her skin, nor an attempt to warm herself that she could hardly stop herself from shaking. The tides had shifted and adrenaline chased it down with fervor.

It was just her and the snitch. Well, them. It was frustrating. Every time that she was forced to share a broom and quite literally point out the course of pursuit in the event that her savior couldn't track the flighty little ball with the same clarity that she could...it crushed her. Frustration grew with every passing second. Efforts to communicate brought with them delayed reaction to reconfigured paths, and precious inches slipped by in leaps. At least Evelynn had refrained from repeating that recreation of Ratatouille has had occurred with her steering of Woodward's head by his hair. No doubt Beckett would sooner kick the Gryffindor seeker from her perch herself than be subjected to treatment as cattle.

That didn't make it any less tempting, though, and the closer they got, the more strained became Evelynn's voice. Exasperated desperation practically dripped with every implored course correction. They were so close. If only she could just have her--Isn't that your broom. Beckett's query distracted her momentarily from target to survey their surroundings. They were much closer to the ground than Evelynn had realized, and the sudden shift of their trajectory nearly left Evelynn careening from her seat. Gripping tightly and leaning into the turn, however, she allowed her gaze to wander. Immediately, it fell to the dull sheen of a silver shaft nearby.

"Yes!" It was as much of an answer as it was an exaltation of relief and she mentally urged Beckett forward faster. Fast was never fast enough. As soon as Beckett got within proximity, Evelynn swung her leg over and leapt from the broom with a hurried, "My thanks!"

And severely over-estimated how easy the landing would be. Perhaps she'd practiced swift dismounts before, but never in conditions such as these. The ground squelched in protest the second her boot touched down, practically giving way beneath her to entrap her foot and keep her stuck in place. It was like the very earth rebelled, offering its allegiance to the ground-dwelling badgers. Personally slighted by the mutinous notion, Evelynn shot down an incensed glare at the pitch turned mud hole and kicked her foot free.

Dignity was impossible to maintain as she scrambled across the slick surface to retrieve her broom, but she hardly cared. The only thing on her mind was the snitch, and after several near falls skating towards it, she threw herself towards her broom and kicked off with a filthy spray.

The players on both teams managed to score a few more times, much to Gia’s relief—and disappointment, when the other team scored at least. The score was now 60 for them, Gryffindor, and 100 for the Hufflepuff team. They were still losing but… like always, Gia tried to be a little bit more positive. As long as they still had a chance, she would continue to do so. The twelve year old drummed her fingers on the edge of her seat as she watched the field and players expectantly. She was going to pause cheering for now, one because it could get a little distracting, and two because the others on the bench were doing that already, enough for all of them.

The competitive side of Howard hated the fact that Alan had beaten him to Quaffle, but he couldn't help but smile as his friend shouted a jab back at him. It was on! However, before he could prepare for the next round the signal to return to his broom was given. "Grr!" He grunted to himself as Annie touched down. "Thanks." Howard muttered quickly to his teammate before running over to his fallen ride. The gong of two goals scored in his absence only further fueled the fire in his belly. Things may not be going great for team Hufflepuff, but no way was he going down without a fight. "Vanes!! Comin' for you mate!! That Quaffle is mine!!" Howard bellowed the challenge to his friend before he kicked off into the air.

Alan cringed as he saw Howard drop to the ground and found himself involuntarily hoping he wouldn't hit the ground, as he imagined that to be quite painful. Then again he hoped he would be out of the game so his team had a better chance; such conflicting thoughts!

Howard however was soon returned to his own broom, and would return a jab to Alan, who got caught in the moment of excitement and adrenaline. "The challenge is on! Loser of the next quaffle grab owes the winner a drink!" the fourth year dared and he absolutely knew his odds weren't too great and he didn't know why he had put out the dare, but with something on the line, his focus sharpened. Alan of course would mean a harmless drink, such as hot chocolate, but who knew how Howard would perceive this.

Chasers

Scrambling to put together an organized offense, and no doubt hoping to go the distance, Rafael would lead the Gryffindor chasers to the center of the pitch where they would figuratively duke it out with Howard. Both Alan and Howard would tussle for control of the first quaffle before Rafa cheekily swooped in to pinch it from amidst their feuding. From there, the undaunted dhampir would wrest control of the other two quaffles, though with a few close calls he could hardly say he was outplaying them. Racing towards the goals, Howard would attempt to score unaware of his fate. A meeting with the f in roflstomping. Which he was totally doing.

Keepers

Undefended, the goal posts would seem lonely after having been unprotected the entire match. Keepers of old had sworn venerable oaths to protect the goals with their lives, but today's generation swore no such fealty. Instead, they forsook the duties of a sentinel in order to enjoy a bit of fun while attempting to score as many points as possible. To those who had sworn those oaths long ago, it would seem a bloodbath. To those on the edge of their seats, purest entertainment. Such was the nature of revolution.

Having pinched the quaffle from a precarious tango between rivals, Rafael would take his shot without further ado. Once again, his house would cheer while their rivals jeered, all in reaction to the 10 shiny new points he'd obtained. Would D'Spacito the Dashing let the haters get to him? I wouldn't know, I'm just the narrator, ask him yourself. All I can say for certain is that before he had another chance to make the most of their Hawkshead formation, Howard tore across the pitch like a flying pig on a holiday. Making off towards their goal posts with another quaffle in hand, Howard would meet his only obstacle, Anastasia. That and whatever field of maleficence she would emit.

Arriving in haste, Howard would line up the first shot, shoot, sink and score 10 points for his house like the hero they celebrated him as. The Howard Method. 60% of the time, it worked every time. It wasn't until the fearless lioness Anastasia proved Howard a coward that he would drop the ball out of "respect." Whether unwilling to face her head on in a game of chicken, or simply terrified of coming anywhere near her, being terrible was Ana's crowning achievement this game. Well, that and the fact that nearly all of her team mates were still in the air at her side despite it. Still, 10 points for Hufflepuff and 10 points for Gryffindor. Not much had changed.

Beaters

A club striking a bludger at a forty five degree angle often sends it careening into an opponent with little margin for error. That is exactly what Lindsey had just done. There was little to be had hoping to knock Evelynn off her A game, so if she wanted it done right, she had to do it herself. Evelynn, focused on the snitch and diving in a brilliant spinning fashion, wouldn't see the wrecking ball as it came into her life like... Well, a wrecking ball. It would catch her knees which would cause her to lose purchase on her broom. Luckily for her, Pierre was there to save the day, scooping her from a collision course with Mother Earth before she became history.

Scarlett and Griseldis knew exactly what they needed to do and they'd been doing it the entire game. One shot, two shot, red shot. Oof, stop. The pair of Gryffindor beaters would club in unison, preying on the lonely target Lindsey. First, Griseldis's bludger would strike from below. Seemingly a painful blow, but eager to hold on, Lindsey would recover just in time for another helping of Gryffindor bullying. Unaware or unable to get out of the way, Howard would be bashed just as badly by the ricochet. This time they would fall. They would fall faster than a pair of bowling balls launched from the top of the Empire State building. Annie would have a difficult choice on her hands, but not seeing would grant her the excuse of not picking favorites. She would save Lindsey, whether Howard had deserved his fate or not.

Seekers

Stanley was in a most unusual situation. Not unlike the seekers who'd come before him, his job was to find the snitch and catch it to secure victory for his allies. Unlike the seekers before him, he'd had almost no support. Soon enough the ground held more of his allies than the sky did, and despite his best efforts to scan the horizon with hopes of finding the snitch, it would continue to elude him like the nasty little imp it was. Don't give up Stanley. Your house is counting on you to keep yourself put together!

Evelynn on the other hand would see victory right before her eyes. She would dive after it, abandoning all caution to the wind. Reaching out, she would feel the tickle of the snitch's wings as it desperately did its best to avoid her. Just before she could wrap her fingers around the golden globe that meant so much her whole world would be ripped out from beneath her all thanks to a bludger. Once again she was sent tumbling to the ground. Once again a hand stretched out and saved her from certain demise. It was only after she was safe from the back of the keeper's broom that she would notice the snitch. In all the chaos, she'd somehow managed to trap it in her pocket.
