Jackson was seething, to say the least.

If this were one of those classic muggle cartoons, there would be steam coming out of Jackson’s ears. His previous interaction with a certain Kyle DeRook was making him oddly upset. It was probably just the way it had been resolved, so abruptly and so… unsatisfyingly.

“Whatever..” Jackson mumbled to himself as he trudged through the entrance hall to Hogwarts. “It doesn’t even matter.”

After a moment of groveling in self-pity and quite a bit of anger, the dhampir decided that he couldn’t bear to be inside a moment longer. So with a quiet huff, Jackson stormed out into the rainy, cold weather. The half-vampire didn’t mind one bit, to be honest, and not just because he had his Ravenclaw scarf wrapped around him. It did help him to keep warm, but really, the rain felt refreshing.

See, the dhampir rarely went outside of the school halls during the spring or early fall, just because of how sunny it got, even for the Scottish highlands. Instead, he only ventured outside during the frigid and ruthless days of the winter, or when it was absolutely pouring rain. So Jackson took his time enjoying the rain, slowing to a stop a few yards away from the castle, tilting his head back and letting the raindrops fall onto his face.

Of course, he didn’t expect the kind Hufflepuff from the previous interaction to come rushing out after him.

Dakota never minded the rainy seasons, actually it was quite normal for the young muggle to go outside and dance in the rain with whoever joined alongside her. This typically happened though in America, on her grandparents farm, as her father was raised in America and her fathers side of the family still resided there, it wasn’t uncommon for her to go visit them during breaks in school. That was most likely why her Scottish accent wasn’t as thick, being around people who had a country accent may have done that.
So, when she stepped outside into the chilling rain, she paused for a moment to not only catch her breath from hurrying through the halls, but to enjoy the rain for a moment as she searched for Jackson. Once spotting him, she made her way towards him. She was unsure how to address him, not having gotten in his name in the heated exchange that happened in the Small Hall. Taking in a soft breath she allowed her voice to rise just a bit “hey! though she was almost at his side and he was stopped, she wanted to make sure she one, didn’t spook him from slipping up beside him and two, he didn’t start moving again.

No worries! I don’t mind at all, I was actually wondering if you were going to do that.

Jackson, despite Dakota’s efforts, jolted at the sudden voice.

The ravenclaw turned a bit, to blink over at the hufflepuff. In the pouring rain it was hard for him to make her out all that well, with water droplets clouding his vision due to them condescending on his gold rimmed glasses. The brown haired boy reaches up to wipe at said glasses with his sleeve, trying to get a better look at the hufflepuff. The first thing he noticed was the height difference, with Jackson being significantly above average in height for a twelve year old.

Jackson blinked a few more times, a crooked smile spreading across his face as the feeling of anger and resentment was shoved deep into his stomach. No need for that at the moment.

“ ‘ello there.” Jackson replied, adjusting his blue and bronze striped scarf. “ uh, sorry for stormin’ out on yous back there, didn’t mean tah seem rude or anythin’ ”

Now that he wasn’t insulting another person, Jackson’s british accent shoved it’s way to the front, having been masked by sneers and harsh words before. Jackson hoped Dakota, that was her name, right? Well, he hoped she wasn’t upset at him for stepping into a conversation he probably didn’t need to be involved in.

Dakotas once fluffy hair was now laying almost flat against her skin, having her wrap pulled tightly around herself and closed because of the fact that she was wearing a white shirt, most likely see through by now. “I’m so sorry I spooked you.” smiling, Dakota let out a soft breath, her gaze gentle towards Jackson “no worries, no worries at all..” pausing, Dakota bit her lip as she sighed “actually, I came to thank you..er, thank you for standing up for me.” using a soft voice Dakota spoke, her accent sounded more American than Scottish, when Jackson thinks back now, when Dakota had been annoyed her accent was more country then anything else.
Puffing out a breath she watched Jackson, she was genuinely thankful for him standing up for her. She had hardly ever been showed kindness from anyone other then her family as she was never a liked person in her muggle school. Awaiting his answer, she blinked, realizing she had no idea what his name was “if you don’t mind me asking, what exactly is your name? I’m sure you already know, but, I’m Dakota Olson.” giving her last name this time, she was more relaxed. Now, she didn’t sound annoyed, in fact she sounded more gentle and a bit more happy.

Jackson took mental note of how cold Dakota must have been, running out into the pouring rain just to thank him. It made the dhampir feel a bit guilty. Briefly he wondered if he should offer up his scarf, or maybe she’d take the ravenclaw robe he wore. After a moment of consideration between the two, Jackson decided to start off with the scarf, and if she was still cold, he could be a gentleman and offer her the robes.

“It’s alright, I'm sure yous didn’t mean to..” Jackson replied, starting to unravel the scarf from around his neck. He looked up from the scarf when Dakota paused, making eye contact with the slightest of smiles, before returning to the slight knot that had formed. Jackson softly hummed in response. “Oh, yous don’t havetah mention it.. I couldn’t let a bully walk all over someone just tryna be nice.”

Another moment of silence fell between them as Jackson finally got the scarf to come undone, lifting it up and off of his head. He took a step closer to Dakota, before reaching over her head with the scarf and draping it over her wrap covered shoulders. The dhampir paused for a moment, smiling briefly once more, before wrapping the scarf around Dakota.

“There yeh go… wouldn’t want yous catchin’ a cold ‘cause of me.” Jackson explained, before continuing on to answer Dakota’s question. “My name? Ah, the name’s Jackson, Jackson Gold. It’s a pleasure meeting you, Dakota!”

Dakota had looked a bit surprised when Jackson rested the scarf along her shoulders and wrapping it around her. She hadn’t expected it and though itself was mostly drenched she let out a soft laugh, forcing her apple cheeks to scrunch her eyes “thank you, Jackson.” another thing to be grateful for from Jackson. Dakota hadn’t expected to meet someone new today, then again, she didn’t expect the day today went at all. For a moment Dakota enjoyed the rain that patted against her exposed skin, taking in a soft breath before she blinked back at Jackson.
She seemed to be complementing what else she should say to him, it had been her own fault he stepped in and got so angry, she had put the both of them in that situation. She could be quite stubborn at times, something that had been seen in the small hall, but she seemed to remember something as she looked down at Jackson’s hand that had suffered the splash of hot coco. Biting her lip she blinked her blue gaze back to Jackson and took in a soft breath “is your hand ok?” worry was the one thing that shown through her voice, she was no longer annoyed with what happened in the Small Hall, instead focused on Jackson.

Jackson’s lips quirked up into another slight smile, sharing the amusement Dakota felt. Despite the heavy, drenching rain, Dakota seemed just fine. It made Jackson relax a bit, knowing that the hufflepuff wasn’t going to get sick from the rainy weather. The dhampir hummed a bit in response to her thanks, showing he had heard her with an additional smile. Gosh, he was smiling a lot more than usual today, huh.

An eyebrow shut up when Dakota mentioned the burn from earlier, and he glanced down to stare at his hand. Besides some obvious scars, ones that looked similar to the bruises Kyle had on his knuckles, there wasn’t much anything wrong. He was unnaturally pale, and his red nail polish was chipping, but the dhampir seemed fine.

“Oh, uh, yeah, nothin’ to worry ‘bout..” Jackson replied, looking back up to smile awkwardly at Dakota, the gaps where his canines once more visible. When Jackson eventually remembered there were very obvious holes in his smile, said smile dropped, and he looked away, coughing awkwardly. As he glanced away, he noticed a cluster of trees not super far away from where they were standing perhaps they could take shelter under the branches.

“Look, maybe we could get out of the rain over there, eh?” Jackson prompted, before reaching down and gently tugging on Dakota’s wrist, pulling her over towards the trees. Look, he did recognize that the action might have been rude, but he wanted to be extra sure his new… friend? wouldn’t get sick.

Dakota, yet again, was a bit surprised at Jackson trying to get her out of the rain, but she didn’t protest or try and stop. On the contrary, she followed along not making a peep. Had there not been physical contact it would’ve almost been like the girl had disappeared into the rain somehow with how quiet she was.
Once they were under the cover of the foliage Dakota offered Jackson yet another soft smile, her blue eyes glittering even in the dimmed light from the cloudy skies. Dakota held her hands clasped together in front of her as she spoke “thank you, again.” she was a bit amused but still very thankful. Dakota had seemed curious about Jackson’s canines, seeing as she grew up in the muggle world and was muggle born she doesn’t have much knowledge on the other races of the wizarding world, it all felt so new to her even in the year she had spent at this school.
But, Dakota guessed Jackson would not appreciate the question, this assumption coming from the fallen smile that happened just as quickly as the awkward one came. Tilting her head Dakota gave a soft laugh “I’m just glad you’re not snarling anymore—“ she had been intermediated by both boys and their nasty looks though she held no hard feelings towards Jackson for his.

Jackson came to a stop underneath the trees, looking up between the branches and at the few bits of cloudy sky peeking through the leaves. He looked down again, closing his eyes and shaking his head back and forth to try and get some of the water off of him. After a moment, Jackson remembered to drop Dakota’s hand, which was incredibly warm compared to his own ice-cold ones. He chuckled awkwardly, a rough, almost scratchy sound.

“It’s uh, really, no problem..” Jackson reassured, smiling back, although it was lopsided as he tried his best to not reveal too much of his teeth, or well, lack thereof certain teeth. “As nice as the rain is, catchin’ a cold isn’t worth the rain, at least, for most it isn’t.”

Jackson glanced away, grey eyes almost the same color of the clouds above the two of them. He stared out past the trees, out into the rain and at the rolling hills of Hogwarts' grounds. It was serene, without the other students milling about. It was calming, without the worry of sunburn. The sereness was broken just a bit when Dakota spoke up again, although Jackson didn’t mind. Dakota made things interesting, he was willing to trade the calm feeling for one of excitement.

The tall dhampir visibly tensed at the mention of the argument from before, his eyes trailing back over to Dakota. They were significantly darker than before, but held no remorse for the hufflepuff.

“Yeah, uh, sorry ‘bout that-” Jackson stuttered out, although he was a lot more riled up then he was moments before. “He was being a bully, ‘sides, i’m not one to warm up to werewolves all that easily, ‘specially mean ones.”

Dakota hadn’t expected Jackson to tense up so quickly when she mentioned what happened. The fact that some people weren’t as quick to forgive as Dakota was edged into her mind and so she shifted on her feet before she sighed “sorry for bringing it up.” peering softly at the Ravenclaw boy she was genuinely sorry for this.
Reaching back, Dakota squeezed the water out of her ponytail. Dakota knew her hair would fluff back up quite quickly, but the golden-brown hair she once sported now looks more of a chocolate brown due to the rain getting it wet and now the canopy of leaves that we’re defending the two students from the rain.
Giving Jackson a joking smile she seems to have recovered quickly from the sorry tone she had just moments ago. Now, she seemed much more relaxed as she spoke “getting a cold is better then spraining or damaging anything. My original plan today was to go rollerskating and..” she shot her gaze towards the rain falling, it wouldn’t have been as bad had it just been cloudy skies but with the rain it was far too dangerous for Dakota to go skating outside “I’m sure you can see how that planned was quickly changed.” she knew she’d have to go back to the Hufflepuff dorms and change once she got inside to help from feeling like she was freezing, but, for now, she was content where she was and who she was speaking to.
