There were only a few things in this world that Elena took after with an eager interest and those were either music, Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts and her friend Adlai, none of which were present on this rather murky day where she found herself conversing with her house prefect as the question lingered in the air as if seeking an answer. Meenauh was keen, keen to get to know more about this brunette she had stumbled upon and in some ways, that could be a good thing or it could not in certain instances as the third-year decided to dignify her with a reply in this instance at least. "I mean, I reckon I can play some pretty solid violin and singing if that's your sort of thing." Elena offered shrugging her shoulders sort of hesistantly wondering what the other girl would think of that. It was something she had picked up to pass the time back home while being tucked away in the four corners of her room and it had just stuck ever since then.

On the other hand, if the prefect wanted to know more about her magical talents than that was a question that she would have no trouble answering. "Personally, I find myself more of a Charms and DADA geek." There just this appeal about those practical classes as compared to the mind-boggling content they covered in the other courses, they were simple and straightforward much like how Elene preferred it to be and maybe it was this appraoch that had clicked so well with her. The girl folded her arms rubbing her shoulders as if hoping they would provide some sort of comfort or a imaginary shield against the sudden curiosity Meenauh had taken, anyone could tell that the Jangleton girl was opting to go for the most simplistic answers but the reason for this was beyond her. At the same time, she had decided it wouldn't be in her best interest to just skirt around a figure of authority that the girl would probably see on a daily basis, perhaps that was why she felt in a way sort of compelled to give some sort of answer even if it happened not to be the most accurate or detailed one, it was at least something and that for Elena was at least better than just going stone-cold silent.

"If I'm being honest.." She started to admit sighing letting her arms drop to her side as she glanced up at the ceiling before her gaze settled back on the other girl, her mind carefully picking words. "I don't have anything special really, just your average person." She said gesturing to herself and her bag. That was it really, Elena Jangleton with her book bag and vine wand didn't have anything she could call her own or rather, that was what she had been exposed to all those years even before Hogwarts. "At least, that's what they say back home." She said it without realizing it perhaps processing what she had said a few moments later, her eyes widening for a brief second before she composed her features again clearing her throat clearly unhinged by the comment leaning her back against the stone wall as if hoping it would provide some sense of support for her. "Sorry, off-topic, didn't mean to rain on the parade."

If anything, it seemed like any mention of home or family would spark an nervous reaction from her as she mentally berated herself for letting those words slip out to someone she had just barely met of all people. She wouldn't have minded if it was Adlai or Lamik or any of the few names that popped into her head but not this, she hoped to play it off as an innocent remark but had a feeling that wouldn't be the end of this line of discussion.

The next couple of things were unexpected to Meenauh. Elena casually dropped she was good at music. Not listening, but playing music. On real instruments. It turned a bit of a shock to her when she had found out Xailah was playing instruments. So, in short, she was always amazed by musicians. Music was never in Meenauh's world as her parents didn't listen to music at all. So Meenauh had nothing to absorb but a few nursery rhymes that may have been created by her mother, and that's it. It was strange when you think about it. But Meenauh never even cared or researched it. Most probably, Meenauh would be the first in the family to discover the endless world of music and dive into it with her whole head.

"Wow, wait a second," she tried to interrupt Elena as she seemed to pass that information in full speed, "You play the violin and sing?" she said in honest awe, "That is... infinitely cool," she would raise her brows, blinking, "Wow," she'd repeat and only then let it pass and return to the school routine.

Charms and DADA — okay, good. She could make a nice dueller. Geek? Okay, new terms. She would smile at it, mentally writing it down to check later. Not something worth starting a discussion about the term alone, when it was the person that mattered more. At this moment.

"Oh, charms and DADA, nice!" she naturally exclaimed as she felt the conversation was actually going and going more or less smoothly until Elena jumped into the lowest self-esteem hole. An average person?!

"What?! What do you mean 'an average person'?" she exclaimed not quite believing any person could switch off their pride and dignity that easily, but the continuation clarified the situation a bit, "Ah..." she sighed sadly and thoughtfully as she heard the reason for her low self-confidence. Home.

She shook her head as the girl started to apologise. The girl needed to step out from the circle. Meenauh wouldn't know how hard it would be to just stand up after being told probably for years what was Elena was told. Meenauh shook her head again, refusing to believe.

Not to break the conversation and not to dig deeper into the sadness of her situation, afraid of touching the sensitive topics, she decided to turn the tides another way.

"Have you ever thought of joining the duelling team? There is a lot of fun and you'd get to master your spells, especially charms and DADA spells" she talked about mastery of spells as if it was the best thing in the world, not realising how someone could not wish such an opportunity. But that was something Elena could actually enjoy. And if she could prove it to herself — how good she was — maybe she could start climbing up from her basement towards the light.

Elena nodded in confirmation as Meenauh seemed to express her shock and awe at the fact that the brunette possessed some sort of musical talent though Elena didn' think it was anything stellar. It was just something she had picked up to keep her occupied and it had just stuck though clearly the other girl thought that was exlempary hobbit. "Thanks." The third year confessed thinking that if she ever got the chance, perhaps she could enlighten Meenuah to some of her little skills, a thought that crossed her mind for a brief moment before the topic shifted paths and they were back on track into diagnoising exactly why the girl was mulling around in this aura of negativity and gloom that had been the main talking point so far. Elena didn't know what to make of her, on one angle, the girl seemed rather forthcoming refusing to believe that anyone could subject themselves to other emotions yet on the other hand, the Gryffindor was a bit wary possibly because she represented a symbol of authority or maybe it was something else, she didn't quite know.

Meenauh's proposal did cause her to dwell on it a bit. Dueling, something she hadn't undertaken before and if she was being blunt, it seemed like a good way to unleash all of the stress and anger into your wand though she wasn't too sure if exerting all of that onto some poor soul who would be on the recieiving end was a good idea. After all, it was in the end a sport and she was pretty sure hexing someone into oblivion was pretty much against the rules but regardless, the girl brought up some solid points. "I'll admit I haven't gave it much thought. I don't know if I'd be..accepted." The brunette was sure she could make it no problem, it wasn't a question of skill like someone might think, those classes were something she lived and breathed and her spell-casting was at a level that at least in Elena's opinion, she thought was acceptable for someone to join a competetive sport based on that. Moreso, it was a matter of character and personality and a slight drop of nerves that kept gnawing away at her and made her wonder if she was a good fit.

She gestured to herself with a wave of her hand. "I mean, look at me now. I doubt you'd want my gloomy, depressed self hindering your stellar streak." Elena believed in that one saying that a team was only as strong as it's weakest link and she was willing to bet her Galleons if that was true, she would fulfilling that role most unforunately and that in itself would pose a lot of problems. However, the girl's words did not leave her as they lingered in her mind as the third-year thought that perhaps if she could find a way out of this little emotional rollercoaster that Elena was riding, she could probably make something work. "Who's on it? What's it like?" Some curious questions perhaps to get a gauge of the environment, the brunette did wonder how different it was from Quidditch because what she had seen of that sport, it tended to have a lot of fiery personalites and if you meshed that with her somewhat fragile state, it was sure to be a recipe for diaster.

The girl wasn't talkative and Meenauh felt that she maybe was a bit uncomfortable to just open up with a crack just because Meenauh was asking. Meenauh wasn't taught to be careful with people. That part slipped away with grace and lightness and stuck somewhere in between Muggle Chemistry and History of Magic tomes in her home library.

And the girl definitely required much more self-confidence. Her every word was soaked in the sauce of self-inconfidence.

"Look at you now what? What do you mean? Gloomy, depressed, hindering — what are those words and where are they coming from?" she gave Elena a very serious look. It wasn't stern but actually caring, "Why... why are you saying such things about... yourself?"

She didn't know. Oh, actually she did. The underloved children had several ways of developing their childhood traumas and one of them was soaking in depressed self-contentedness. Did Meenauh have anything to do about it? Why should she? Because it wasn't fair. It wasn't fair that parents can even in theory not love their children. Or whatever pain and suffering they bring upon their child, wrapping it into a sparkly cover saying "This is how I love you", but with a whole devilishly sweet cake of tyranny inside. Okay, she really didn't know because she didn't need to read those psychology books.

"It's great!" she answered swiftly, "Really great. And I believe anyone can become a great dueller if they practice enough," she looked her straight into the eyes, "And moreover, I think you have to try out. I really say it — I feel you're a fit," from the side it could look like she was an annoying marketing manager who's trying to sell something to her, but in reality, she was meaning it: "You have... stuff going on there in your head, but I can feel that your heart," she pointed at her heart with her finger slightly touching her clothes in the area of her chest (yes, that is how she's breaking personal boundaries), "...is different. That there's fire, a beast that you need to unleash."

Wow, really? So much cliche for a fourteen-year-old? Brava!

"I mean... It'll help," she continued after a pause to cool down her Gryffindor side, "It'll really help. Plus, we need more members. Will you try?

She almost had to fight back the urge to smile, laugh or cry at Meenauh's struggle to comprehend why Elena was being so self-condescending about herself. To those that knew the brunette well, they knew she was by nature a quiet person though that was about the extent of it, most had assumed it was just a natural trait and while that was true to some regard, there were also some other contributing factors that accounted for her mostly reserved nature. It was the things like these, the personal issues, the burdens of home and Merlin knew what else is why she clammed up so often and Meenauh's reaction while not a negative one was one she had come to experience over the months. She just couldn't seem to fathom why Elena was being awfully gloomy about the entire ordeal.

She didn't blame the girl as she glanced up at her, it was a diffcult topic for most to understand as most students here had come from a well and solid family. The same could be said for Elena Jangleton, her wizarding family being one of the more prominent ones in the nation and the Ministry but clearly, that same respectable reputation hadn't transferred over to her parents. "Sorry, it' just..how I express my self, y'know?" Clearly however, her fellow Gryffindor had an another idea on how the girl could let out all of those emotions and whatever she was worrying about instead of just idling in some corridor and letting the thoughts overwhelm her. The prospect of dueling, putting her mental energy to good use in something fast-paced, something meaningful and something that would give her purpose and for a moment, it almost sounded like something out of the Daily Prophet.

"You're right about one thing, I suppose. I defintely need to unload one way or the other." She admitted eyes shifting as Meenauh gestured at her heart, a complicated place for Elena. She was kindred, outgoing but behind all of that was a story of scars and wounds that she shared barely with anyone but if what the prefect said was true, maybe in time, she could turn this into a good thing. "You could be right." She mused as the million dollar question presented itself. Would she or would she not throw in her chances with the duelling team? A pause as silence lingered as Elena got to her feet, her mental gears turning as she faced the girl. "I'll give it some thought. I didn't really think about it that way before, offloading all of that into something else. It could be just what I need." If anything, it would make her feel like she was getting somewhere instead of being reigned back day by day. "Thanks for talking, that helps a lot." Letting a faint smile trace her features, the girl would turn, the sound of slow steady footsteps against the concrete echoing as she made her way down deep in thought about what Meenauh had just told her.

ELENA JANGLETON HAS LEFT THE THREAD
