Explaining swimming games to @Dakota Olson

"Alright, well...shark and minnow tag is just like regular tag only swimming instead of running. One person is the shark and goes for the minnow and the minnow tries to stay away. If you get tagged, the positions switch,"
he told her of the first game as he moved his hand along the water, enjoying it despite that pesky sun. He was glad that they decided to do this.

"Marco Polo is where one person has to close their eyes and keep them close and the other goes around the water. That person yells out MARCO and waits while the other yells out POLO and then you have to try and find them just based on the sense of hearing." He was excellent at that game but it was because he had more heightened senses than the average person, only had he just discovered that trait about himself. Probably not the best game to play if one wanted to be fair with his new friend.

"Add On is where one person does something, the other person does the same, then adds on something else. That person does those things, adds on another. Or, you know, we could just swim," he smiled. Maybe that would be best since they wouldn't have all that long before curfew. He treaded backwards a little, just enjoying being in the water.

Dakota nodded along as Simon explained, seeming quite content with just listening, blinking when it was time for her to respond. Biting her lip Dakota kept her head tilted as she debated about what she would like to do. ”…I wouldn’t mind trying Sharks and Minnow.” Dakota had a bit of a nervous tone as she spoke, a bit afraid of disappointing Simon or reviving his disapproval. Though there was a idea in the back of her mind, something her brothers had done repeatedly to spook her while they swam.
Laying on her back as she floated she waited for his answer, her blue eyes still trained on Simon. She didn’t mind the setting sun, on the contrary she quite enjoyed the orange light that seeped between trees and foliage at this time. But her favorite part, well, one of her favorites was the cool water that lapped at her, chilling her as she relaxed slowly. The sounds around her also seemed to be a adding factor to her quickly relaxing body and mind though the better part for her was getting to spend time with a new friend, even if she hadn’t expected to make one or do anything but sleep after dinner until Simon proposed swimming.

Sharks and Minnows with @Dakota Olson

"Alright, well you seem far more vicious than I am," he smiled, knowing that most likely wasn't the case. Well, not really. The boy had the ABILITY to inflict great harm - maybe even worse, but he didn't have the demeanor or the soul for it. "You'll be the shark and I'll be but the lowly small minnow, unaware to the dangers that surround me," he said as he leaned back now so that he was floating for a moment onto his back there in the water - being the vulnerable minnow that he now was.

The Great Lake was still rather calm, only a little bit of waves rocked his body there at the surface of the water and anything that lurked beneath was content with these two doing as they would at that given point in time. No one was agitated. "Lowly, small, unaware...but very tasty," he added, smiling now as he tilted his head to look to her.

The sun was moving even lower and he could feel the relief from it already and he paused to take a moment to take a nice slow deep breath of fresh air. It was something that he just didn't get to experience often enough.

Dakota let out another laugh, rolling her eyes softly as she goes back to treading in the water. Her original thought still plagued her thoughts but she decided if she did do it, she’d do it before they got out of the lake. A grin still traced her lips as she made her way towards Simon, seeming to find it laughable that he had called her vicious compared to him, though she knew it was a joke. With her gaze glittering with amusement Dakota was a bit quick in the water though Simon could most definitely out swim the swim the small girl.
Dakotas mind had thoughts swirling in it, some a bit more worried than others as she swam through the inky looking water. They had been lucky enough so far to avoid angering anything that lurked in the depths of the lake or other people. Noticing Simon take a breath she paused, raising a eyebrow lightly before she continued swimming towards him. The water was quickly cooling as the sun was lowering further and further, she knew by nightfall they’d most likely have to get out to avoid catching something or being caught out in the lake. Taking in a deep breath Dakota jokingly dove forward towards Simon.

Sharks and Minnows with @Dakota Olson

He had the ability to dart away rather quickly. Simon had always been quick, especially when it came to things like sports. It was in his nature - and only had he recently discovered it was in the nature of all dhampirs.

Still, he didn't want to just race right past her and have this game be no fun at all. Minnows were supposed to be small and weak compared to that of the shark so he began to do this little weird tread, almost like a dog paddle. It was fun, and he coasted along the surface, just enjoying the day. It wasn't all the time that he got out to enjoy fresh air.

By now the sun had dipped low enough that it was no longer the slightest bit uncomfortable and it was this time during the day that was his favorite. The world hadn't turned dark yet and he could still be there to enjoy nature and the great outdoors with a friend. Night would fall too quickly, but for someone like Simon who only slept about every third night, he had all the time in the world ahead of him.

"I feel like this is the movie Jaws - Hogwarts Edition,"
he teased, smiling over to Dakota the Shark.

Dakota snorted yet again out of laughter. She was enjoying her time with her new friend and he was quite amusing to her. It was obvious the smaller girl wasn’t a strong swimmer though she was trying her best, but that in all honesty didn’t seem to ruin her happy mood or make her think twice at the game. She hadn’t swam in awhile, she would get better at it eventually, but now she was content with just playing game with Simon till they had to go back into the halls of Hogwarts and to Hufflepuff. “I suppose you’re right.” she was a bit surprised Simon knew the movie Jaws, after all it had been a American thriller.
But the mention of Jaws gave her a idea, with a grin she dipped her head underwater and swam towards Simon, the inky water making it hard to see her as she approached. This had been done to her many times by her older cousins when they would swim in the pool that was down the road from her grandparents farm in America, where they would grab her ankle and come up before calling out “shark!” and swimming away. Maybe it was a little unfair since Simon technically wouldn’t know what she was doing, but she supposed it would get a laugh out of the boy.

Swimming fun with @Dakota Olson

He did know Jaws, as he knew lots of American things. They fascinated him - especially when it came to music. Jazz was simply wonderful and he loved the cronies like Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. Then there was also Motown. There was nothing like some of their music.

He should have at least suspected what Dakota was doing, but when she slipped under the water's surface, he figured it was just for some refreshment from the hot fading sun and he relaxed a little more, thinking she was putting a slight pause on their game for the moment.

Oh how wrong he was.

He was floating there, just minding his own business, watching the clouds in the sky. They were rather dark, just because of the fading sun, but he loved it all the same. This was something he didn't get to see very often, especially without looking through the paned glass of a window, so it was a treat. It made him relax, and a feeling of tranquility would fall over him.

He wasn't sure how his new friend was feeling about this evening and their adventure, but to Simon it was one of his better days at Hogwarts and he was glad that they got to experience it.

Dakota could hold her breath for shockingly longer than it seemed she could with her smaller frame and even with her weaker swimming she was still able to get over to Simon quickly underwater. After a moment or so of pondering if this was really a good idea, Dakota reached her hand up out at the only water and grabbed Simon by the ankle. Her grip was gentle, making sure she didn’t hurt him before she poked her head out of the water, her eyes shimmering with playfulness as she calls out “shark!” before letting him go and swimming away.
Now, she was slower than when she was swimming underwater and she was much easier to locate. Turning around she swam backwards now, looking at Simon as she does this, a playful grin along her lips. She had silently been preparing for Simon to be rather upset with her for doing this, running the outcomes through her head as anxiety begins to grip her heart. Biting her lip she kept her feelings a bit more concealed than normal, keeping her lips turned up in a smile. She was enjoying the darker time now as well as the colder water that has now completely drenched her when she went under.

He was rather taken aback when she grabbed his ankle because for a moment he thought it could be anything! There was apparently a giant squid in that lake, and grindylows, and merpeople?! What else? But upon hearing her call out "SHARK" he knew that it was just his new friend Dakota and he laughed.

He swam forward and she swam back. "Better watch out, I've heard you hit a shark in the nose to get them to swim away...." he taunted. Simon then stopped swimming for just a moment as a thought came into his head. "...Do shakes even have noses?" Not exactly. Kinda. Sorta. Maybe?

"No, no, no, I kid. I kid," he quickly then defended himself. Dakota didn't know him all that long and he didn't want her thinking he was serious by any means! Simon was not an aggressive person and wasn't going to start at that moment. "I wouldn't hurt you. I probably wouldn't hurt a real shark either. I'd just have to stay in its stomach until I meet my demise."

Were there sharks in the Great Lake? Probably not...but one never really knew what they'd find next at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. "Say, since we're both Hufflepuffs, want to head on into the Common Room and dry by the fire?" It was that or they would soon be out past curfew. Neither of which he minded, but maybe she didn't want to break the rules.

Dakota smiled lightly as Simon seam after her. She had heard that too, nodding lightly, she seemed to laugh “I dunno—maybe?” they must have noses if you’re supposed to punch them there. Giving him a soft smile as he tried to reassure her, she nodded softly “of course, I know you worn actually hurt me,” she gave another soft laugh at the comment about sitting in a sharks stomach. That reminded her “apparently, some lobster diver got sucked into the mouth of a blue whale,” she blinked lightly before giving a soft shiver. She knew he hadn’t suffered a causality or been gravely injured, but it still spooked her just a bit.
The offer of going back to the common room to warm up by the fire seemed to turn her head a bit. She debated her options, on one hand, she was beginning to get cold and technically they were already breaking a rule because they were swimming in the Great Lake unsupervised. On the other hand, she was quite enjoying swimming and spending time with her new friend. Giving a soft sigh, her gaze flickered back towards where she believed the castle was “I think we should head inside, speaking softly, she treaded in her spot now.
