In the crowded corridors with @Lily Cooper

If Simon had ever previously thought that he corridors within Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry were too small before - well, he didn't know the beginning of it! It was Sunday morning, just after breakfast, and the students were off in one direction or another to begin their day.
Many would head to the Courtyard or the school Grounds to meet up with friends, to take in a game of tag, or to catch up on any of the week's gossip. Some would head up to the Library or Study Room to desperately cram in information since the end of term was upon them and it would be their last chance to pull up any low marks in their classes.
For Simon, Sunday morning after breakfast meant going to his dormitory and gather his Bible, where he would take in his own sort of Sunday Service since Hogwarts didn't provide that. Usually he went to the Library where it would be peaceful as the librarian at least demanded that rules be followed and only hushed voices were allowed. It was a beautiful setting too and inspired him to learn more - whether about his faith or content for classes.
Tap.
He brushed into another first year and smiled to her apologetically.
What also didn't help was that Hogwarts was currently host to an assortment of students from various other wizarding schools. They too added to the immense number of individuals cramming the halls.
Smack.
Simon's shoulder was driven right into a painting on the wall that depicted a group of now angry white haired men standing around a table. "Watch it, mate!" one of them snapped at him. "Sorry. Very sorry," he told them.
Now to try and pay better attention - so he didn't take out any other first year students with his strength or bring down the social function of any more paintings, he would try and dodge and weave between others in the hall.
Several books in hand, he turned the corner, ready to head down one of the lesser traveled flights of stairs when he saw a redhaired girl in the distance. Red hair always caught his attention for some reason or another and two of his favorite Hogwarts classmates had it - Haley Rose and Alexa Mackenzie. Was it one of them? Maybe not. There were a lot of redheads at Hogwarts despite him not knowing that many back in London. He did have a friend back in school that had it, and he even had envisioned he had seen her now and again through the year there within Hogwarts - but it was probably only a trick of the mind.
Dodge and weave. Dodge and weave.
He tried to get closer.
As he moved to the left, someone got bumped into him and the top book, his Bible, fell to the stone floors. Another person, probably on accident, kicked it and caused it to slide with great ease and speed across the floor. Just as he was moving forward to retrieve it, someone from the back must have pushed several students at once and that caused a domino effect. They stumbled down, falling upon others who fell, falling upon Simon who fell, causing others in front of him to fall as well. "Goodness. Is everyone alright?" Simon asked, finally getting his balance and standing up, helping those he could around him.

I've been here almost a year and I don't even know the castle by heart. The proof: I'm lost. It's not really my fault, there were so many people here today... I was going to the classroom of Charmes. But fate decided otherwise. I have just finished my breakfast. I grab my bag and walk out of the Great Hall. As soon as I leave, I realise that there are a lot of people at Hogwarts. Since the Easter holidays, I've been doing things I've never done before. Walking against the flow of students who want to enter the Great Hall, I try to make my way to the Charms classroom. I arrive at a quieter place. Quieter? I don't know.
In any case, I have the strong impression that there are fewer people. There are still a lot of them, but there are fewer. I start to cross the corridor but I stop. Why do you stop? Go on! I thought I saw someone. Someone I know. Before Hogwarts. If it is him, he's bumping into a painting. It definitely looks like him.
- Simon.
But that's impossible. He would have told me if he were a wizard. I must be dreaming. Wait, what? You mean the guy you were friends with in primary schools? That's right, little voice. I'm not dreaming. The proof is, he saw me. And he's coming to see me. At least he tries to. He walks into a group of people. Ouch. Everyone falls to the ground. I go to meet him. It's him, I'm not mistaken. I hold out my hand to help him up and say, smiling:
- Simon? Do you remember me, Lily? From primary school.

Taking the helping hand of @Lily Cooper
Simon had just gathered up a fallen quill from a boy, and checked on a nearby fallen girl to see if she was alright before grabbing his Bible and gathering his things back up when he heard a voice call his name and saw the extended helping hand. Lily? It was her! He had seen her!
"Of course, I remember you!" he said as he took her hand, and she might have felt the coldness. It wasn't anything too shocking, but he never had his body temperature elevated to that of a regular person's so he always was colder to the touch than someone else - not that he noticed. To him this was perfectly normal.
"I spilled blue paint on you that time in art class and felt absolutely awful about it. It didn't all come off right away and you told me that it was alright, that the blue would compliment your hair," he laughed, remembering it. Some girls would have been absolutely furious but she was kind and she knew it wasn't on purpose. He took a moment to glance to her red hair, quite paint free.
"But what are you doing here?!" Hogwarts. After all this time. The first entire year of schooling was almost over and here she was. How had he not seen her sooner?! It was a wonderful surprise.

He takes the hand I held out to him. His hand is... particularly cold. It is strange. I don't have time to wonder why, he recalls an event that makes me smile.
- Of course, I remember you! I spilled blue paint on you that time in art class and felt absolutely awful about it. It didn't all come off right away and you told me that it was alright, that the blue would compliment your hair.
No, not smile. Laugh. It's been so long since I've laughed. It feels good. The blue paint in my hair. Really, it looked great on me. But I was crazy before. If it had happened today, I don't know if I would have reacted the same way. But at the time, it was really funny.
- Oh yeah! Do you know that I almost got red paint on you afterwards? That was so funny!
But there is always something that intrigues me. In fact, two things. First, what is he doing here? Second, why is his hand so cold? I'm about to ask but he beats me to it by a microsecond.
- But what are you doing here?!
- I was just about to ask you.And I think you know the answer. I am a wizard. And logically so are you. I haven't told anyone. I guess the same goes for you.
Really. I've been at Hogwarts for almost a year. We're at Hogwarts for almost a year. Why now? Why is it only now that we're meeting again? Because you've had your nose in your books. You couldn't see anything...

"You haven't told anyone? So, like, you knew about it before getting an acceptance letter?" he asked, rather amazed by that. To think that there were wizards and witches there in London itself was both rather obvious that there would be, but mind blowing all at the same time.
He motioned for her to follow him and lead him over to the edge of the hall where it wasn't so crowded and the two could talk some without being knocked into again. "My mum had gone here to Hogwarts. She was in Gryffindor. My aunt though, she isn't of magic so she really didn't know any details to tell me, or even know that it runs in families sometimes. Found that out when I showed her the letter, thinking she was just playing one big prank on me."
"There's so much to learn about this world. It's amazing. I mean, dragons? Unicorns? That's just the beginning!" He had learned throughout his first year at Hogwarts some of the areas of magic: their history, their leaders, their plants, their potions, their charms, their creatures, their culture, their government. It was all so amazing that this world existed and he was oblivious to it all those years - and some were oblivious to it all their lives. He was glad he was included in it.

Yes, I knew that. I've known it since I was three years old. I've known since the first time I did magic. I've known since the first time my mother told me. You were right not to tell anyone. The evil Muggles would have killed you. Not necessarily. Anyway, I was surprised by his question. But not much. I always thought he was a Muggle. Maybe he's a Muggleborn. Hence his question.
- Yes, I knew that. My parents are wizards... Like all my family. So it made sense that I knew.
Then we go to a classroom. Good idea, it will be less crowded. Should I send a letter to my muggle friends telling them the truth? I don't know. I really don't know. But that's not the most important thing right now. I found a childhood friend. In the magical world.
- My mum had gone here to Hogwarts. She was in Gryffindor. My aunt though, she isn't of magic so she really didn't know any details to tell me, or even know that it runs in families sometimes. Found that out when I showed her the letter, thinking she was just playing one big prank on me.
I remember. His mother died. And he never knew his father. It's a sad thing. And so he lives with his aunt if I remember right. I can understand what his aunt must have thought.
- Your mother was in Gryffindor... She must have been a great wizard. My parents were in Ravenclaw. Like me now. Last summer, I almost felt like they were waiting for my letter more than I was.
- There's so much to learn about this world. It's amazing. I mean, dragons? Unicorns? That's just the beginning!
I smile at his enthusiasm. Should I tell him or not? About what? That I know quite a lot, having read and re-read the family library. I decide to tell a half-truth. Because I still have a lot to learn!
- It's true that there are many things to discover. But we have learned quite a lot this year!

Catching up with @Lily Cooper
"Yea, and more than I ever thought," he said, his voice falling just slightly because of his relaxation just about a month prior. He was still letting it settle in - the fact that he was a dhampir. At times he felt like he was still the same Simon Kincaid he always had been, before this knowledge, but then other times he felt like he was half monster.
No need to worry her with all that though.
"That's incredible that it's always been a part of who you are and that you were surrounded by it always. I bet you know loads more than most of the students at the school." He was impressed by it. She might have flown on a broom sooner than he had, or read up on some of the topics, or maybe even knew a few spells even before coming in through the Entrance Hall.
"So what of your parents? I mean, like, do they do wizarding jobs?" He knew by now that some people of magic decided to get jobs within the muggle world to blend in while others got jobs that benefited the wizarding world and let them use their magical talents. How fascinating it would be to have a job that was magical, Simon thought, but he understood why it would be easier to blend in with a job within the muggle community.

Lily smiled at her friend's words. It's so good to have a friend back. Even more so when you are shy like her. Or rather, when you've become shy like her. Last year she wasn't shy at all. And she loved it. But she's getting used to it and she likes the solitude. Her solitude.
- That's incredible that it's always been a part of who you are and that you were surrounded by it always. I bet you know loads more than most of the students at the school.
Lily bursts out laughing. Yes, she has always been surrounded by wizards. But surrounded by wizards who always told her to be careful, not to say anything... Frankly, she doesn't know any more than the other first years. Maybe in Charms... Of course, she got good grades in class. But that's no reason why she should know more than the others!
- It's true, I've always seen magic as something normal... At home, anyway. My parents kept telling me to be careful. And you know, I think a lot of students have wizard parents, so I don't think I know much more than others...
What is it with you and the Sang-Melés? First Vivian Fletcher, now him!
I've known him since primary school.
The great thing about Simon is that he is a good listener. That's what made him and Lily friends in the first place. At least according to her.
- So what of your parents? I mean, like, do they do wizarding jobs?
- I don't know much about my parents' work. Except that they work at the Ministry. You know what's the Ministry of Magic?
If he doesn't, Lily will have to explain it to him and she considers her knowledge of the place as a piece of cheese: full of holes.[/font]===

"A little. I mean, I know it's kind of like the government for the wizarding world and that there's different ones according to where you live," he said, stating the extent of his knowledge. "Sounds like there are the most fascinating jobs there as well as the most mundane - and everything in between." It was cool enough, but being some sort of government worker or politician was never his calling. What was his calling? Not sure. But it would probably involve helping people in some way and not through the Ministry.
"I can't believe that you always knew all this existed," he shook his head. It was difficult to wrap his head around the idea that some of the people he may have met previously had always known this world had existed. They didn't need to search the books in the Library day after day to research some of the magical plants or magical creatures, of the history of magic, because they already knew.
"Lily Cooper...a witch. Who would have thought?" it was all so surreal that his two worlds were colliding like this. "And you've been here, all along!" he laughed. "There were many a times I thought I saw you, especially towards the beginning of the year, but then I thought my mind was just tricking me. Yet, here you are. It's good to see you! How's Ravenclaw treated you? Do you like it here?" Did it seem just as amazing to her as it did to him?

Really, this conversation makes Lily smile. Of course she knew all this existed. Since she was born. Lily replies with a shrug.
- You can't believe but I knew that it existed. Don't be jealous!
Finally! You're finally asserting your Pureblood superiority! This is great news. I've been waiting nine months and counting.
Don't believe that. I'm only telling the truth.
- Lily Cooper...a witch. Who would have thought?
Lily makes an outraged face and sticks her tongue out at Simon before bursting into laughter. Of course she's a witch. She just learned to hide it.
- And you've been here, all along! There were many a times I thought I saw you, especially towards the beginning of the year, but then I thought my mind was just tricking me. Yet, here you are. It's good to see you! How's Ravenclaw treated you? Do you like it here?
- And yes. I've been here since the beginning. On the evening of September 1st to be precise. Sometimes I thought I saw you too, but since I also thought I saw Eden and Chiara... I thought I was dreaming. But in fact I didn't! Well, Ravenclaw is the home of my whole family. I really wanted to go there. And I'm happy there.
Lily is in a teasing mood for the first time since... Since the summer holidays actually. She heard about what happened at the Bloossom Ball. She didn't go there but she knows a lot of things that happened there. With a slightly mocking smile, she asks:
- And... You're still happy about your marriage with Haley?
She knows that this "marriage" was an accident, but she thinks it is really too cute. And funny at the same time.[/font]===
