Sunny day, happy Haley. The wind blew through Haley's hair at regular intervals, making her curls tickle her face. It was a sunny, warm day and the wind barely provided any cooling, yet Haley couldn't complain. After finishing her homework, she grabbed her book - The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - which her father had sent her and skipped happily through the empty castle out into the Courtyard. After spotting a free spot in the sun, she made herself comfortable, leaned against a tree that threw the shadow in the opposite direction, and stretched out her legs.
She briefly glanced around the area, there was a lot going on outside since it was such a sunny day. She turned her attention back to her book and started to read. The longer she read, the more she tuned out the world, the chirping of the birds and the conversations of the other students, and immersed herself in the world that lay before her on her lap.
Startled, she realized that time had flown by as she raised her eyes and noticed that there were hardly any students left. There was still quite a bit going on, but compared to before, many had already left. It was still daylight, but she suspected it wouldn't be long before dinner would begin and most would be getting ready for it. She flipped the top right corner of the page in the book and decided to take a short break. She tightened her legs, crossed her arms on her knees and rested her chin on them. Lost in thought, she looked around, quietly processing the contents of her book, which gave her a lot to think about, staring quenchers in the air.
After a few minutes, she let a long breath out of her lungs, leaned back against the tree trunk and looked up at the blue cloudless sky. Her thoughts kept circling around the story, emotionally carried away by it she decided to write a letter to her father and took out a sheet of parchment and her quill from her bag. Using the book as a pad, she began to write.
"Hey dad,
thank you so much for the book! I was very happy to get it and I have already read the first chapters. I really like it a lot but it's really mixed feelings and I'm excited to see what happens next ..."
When she finished writing her letter, she put it between the pages of the book and sat down in a cross-legged position. She reached under her hair at the nape of her neck and moved it briefly to the left and right while suddenly her gaze met that of a girl. She smiled at the unknown face and wondered for a moment if they had met before.

Sunny Meeting
Dakota preferred to be outside, reminding her of the little house that sat by the woods her grandparents lived in. Basically having grown up there, it was comforting to be outside in the sunlight, and she didn’t have to deal with the tighter spaces of the halls of Hogwarts. With her hair tied back she had settled down in a spot that was a bit away from the commotion happening in the courtyard. Enjoying the rays of the sun she pulled out a journal, one she used to draw and sometimes write things if she felt like it. Her blue eyed gaze swept from side to side as she searched the pages, being gentle with each one.Dakota hadn’t immediately noticed Haley, catching her out of the corner of Dakotas eye. Once Dakota raised her head Haley could see her face better, crystal blue eyes, more Indigenous features and her cheeks having a bit of a rosy tint to them. Not recognizing Haley’s face her lips traced a frown for a moment before she let out a breath and smiled back. Since she was always good at examining and remembering faces, names and voices, not knowing Haley’s was a little more worrying to her, since most likely that meant she had never had a encounter that would give long enough for Dakota to memorize Haley’s face.

Haley smiled unconsciously, wondering if she really didn't know the girl. Her face was so unknown but her crystal blue eyes seemed so familiar. She pondered and pondered and her gaze continued to rest on her without Haley being consciously aware of her. It was as if she was staring at a hole in the air while she saw other scenarios before her inner eyes. And suddenly it came back to her. She thought she had seen her before in class. Potions, if she remembered correctly. She had only seen her in passing in the classroom but she thought she could remember her eyes. But still, Haley couldn't be sure and when she came back to reality, she only realised that she had continued to keep her eyes on the girl the whole time.
How rude, Haley thought to herself, annoyed at her kind of daydream. She shook her head briefly, knowing she couldn't just leave this weird situation without saying something. "Sorry!" she spoke a little louder now in the girl's direction. "I was just wondering if we've met before." Haley Explained, hoping very much that she wouldn't think she was completely crazy.

Keeping her smile, she laughed a bit when Haley had apologized. Shaking her head lightly towards Haley she blinked “no need to be sorry!” Dakota kept her lips curved upwards, trying to be friendly as she normally was. Though the starting had made Dakota just a bit uncomfortable once Haley had told Dakota why she was starring, Dakota tried to push the uncomfortable moment away from herself and replace it with laughter. She had no real reason to be uncomfortable, she found no ill intent in Haley’s gaze. This helped Dakota relax a bit, letting out a soft breath as she traced her fingers along the page of her journal.Pausing, Dakota tilted her head before lightly raising a eyebrow towards Haley “so, do you think we’ve met before?” Dakota had a genuine question, she still wasn’t sure about who Haley could be. For a moment, Dakota bit down on her bottom lip, seeming to be thinking about something. Once she stood up, seeming to have finished thinking, she wandered over towards Haley. Dakota kept her smile as she sat down, still keeping a small distance between the two “I thought coming over to talk was easier than talking across the courtyard-“.@Haley Rose

Thank Merlin - she wasn't angry or taking it badly from Haley. She slumped her shoulders and exhaled in relief. The last thing Haley wanted was for anyone to feel uncomfortable because of her but to her relief the girl, who she still wasn't sure if they had met before, smiled at her. Haley laughed softly to herself and shook her head a little sheepishly.
"I am not sure." Haley replied and stopped when she noticed heads turning to her. She couldn't help laughing and raised her hand apologetically. She didn't want to know what the other students were thinking - always these first-years -. It would be as if the girl had heard her thoughts and came up to Haley. "I was thinking the same thing just now." She laughed. Her eyes fell again on the group of students who were smiling at the two girls and pretending to applaud.
Shaking her head, still laughing, she turned her gaze back to the girl. "I'm Haley and sorry again." She introduced herself briefly. "I'm not sure if we've met before but I think I saw you in class once. I think it was Potions but I could be completely wrong." She explained further and shrugged her shoulders.

Dakotas gaze watched Haley before she heard the clapping. Dakota raised a eyebrow, wondering why they were clapping before Dakota turned to look back at Haley as she was now speaking. “Ah—well, I’m sure there’s a good chance you have.” Dakota smiled at Haley, her smile causing her cheeks to scrunch her eyes as Dakota has apple cheeks. Taking in a soft breath she nodded, this would explain why Dakota didn’t know this girls face. Dakota could guess what house she was in, but didn’t want to ask or say anything in fear of offending Haley. Dakotas gaze is soft, even towards someone who would be considered a stranger to Dakota.“Oh, I’m Dakota..Dakota Olson. Dakota gave Haley another warm smile, Dakotas blue eyes twinkling lightly as they seem to almost glow in the sunlight. Dakota seemed sweet enough, though she had been rather quiet and reserved since she arrived at Hogwarts she was still willing to try and meet people. “No worries, no harm done.” tilting her head lightly she blinked at Haley. Dakota still held the journal on her lap, though it was now closed the leather covering gave away the fact that this was a well loved journal. ”what are you reading,? If you don’t mind me asking.” Dakota had been peering at the book Haley had, curiosity showing in her gaze.@Haley Rose

Haley was fascinated in a way by Dakota's blue eyes, it was almost hard not to look at them. She wasn't sure she had ever met anyone with such bright blue eyes. She thought she and her green eyes were a rarity but now she doubted it. She smiled at her as she spoke, "Nice to meet you." Grinned Haley happily and her eyes fell on a leather book in her lap. Her curiosity immediately compelled her to ask about it, but Dakota beat her to it and for a moment she was confused until she looked down at her book beside her.
"The boy in the striped pyjamas." She answered her question and picked up the book. "My father sent it to me, it's a muggle book." Haley explained further, holding it out to Dakota so she could take a closer look. "I've only read a few chapters but I'm already worried it's going to make me cry." Haley laughed now, shaking her head. On the one hand she was glad of her emotional side but often it was a curse and a blessing at the same time. Sorrow from others hurt her herself and even with books, stories and movies she cried when something sad happened. "If you're interested, I'd be happy to lend it to you when I've finished reading it." Haley offered the girl now, not sure she liked reading.
Her eyes went back to the leather book that looked like it had been in use for a while. It also looked less like a book that told a story and more like a notebook of sorts. "And what about you?" Haley asked, nodding her head towards the book, eager for the answer.

Dakota gave Haley another smile, peering at the book for a moment before she seemed to have heard Haley. “Hm—? Oh, the journal?” Dakota blinked down towards the leather covered book that sat in her lap “it’s my late fathers, I’ve been reading it lately.” Dakota had a few things from her father, better known as Ellery. First, she had his ukulele, then his journals, video camera, not only that bit Dakota was basically a mini replica of Ellery. They both had crystal blue eyes, though Ellery hair was much longer than Dakota they did have the same goldenbrown locks and of course, the way their skin looks and features look.Dakota looked the most like her fathers side, she guessed that was why her mom didn’t want to be around her. Or maybe she just doesn’t like you.. letting out a breath this intrusive thought rang in her head, her mother was a woman she had to deal with for years, now, she was under the care of her grandparents of her mother as her fathers side still lived in America. “I wouldn’t mind reading it, I have a few books you could choose from to borrow if you’d like.” Dakota read mostly fantasy books, The Hunger Games, Mortal Engines, The Mortal Instruments just to name a few serious she had.@Haley Rose

Haley felt badly after Dakota's words and was sorry she had brought it up. She didn't know the circumstances but she was sure it was an aching loss when she read the journal. "Oh, U-Uh, okay." She stuttered to herself, not having the right words. "I-I'm sorry." She hung up now and looked apologetically at the book.
She wouldn't press the issue any further, after all it was none of her business but she knew how difficult it could be sometimes. "If you ever need someone to talk to, you can find me somewhere in this big castle." Haley now offered her with a faint smile.
"Okay, I'll give it to you as soon as I finish it." Smiling now a little wider, "And gladly I accept your offer. I'm always open to new stories." Haley laughed, thinking about her book list that she still had ahead of her.
Haley noticed that the Courtyard was getting emptier and it was surely time for dinner soon. "So, what are your plans for today? I really need to send another letter." She mentioned, bringing in a bit of a send off. She didn't want to be rude and would like to get to know her new acquaintance better soon but time was short for today. "Maybe we'll see each other again soon? I'd love to." Suggested Haley with a sweet tone and began packing up her things before heading off to the Owlery.

Dakota had given a gentle smile, watching Haley “oh there’s no reason to be sorry, as always no harm done and you were just curious.” giving a light shrug Dakota blinked at Haley. “Thank you for the offer.” sighing softly, a light laugh rising from her. Listening to what Haley was saying about the books Dakota nodded, grateful to Haley and happy Haley was willing to take her offer.Hearing the question, Dakota tilts her head lightly”oh I don’t have much planned, I’ll probably go to my dorm.” Dakota was a bit tired from the social interaction today, having forgotten just how tiring it was for her since she rarely interacts with people anymore. Nodding, Dakota called after that she would enjoy to meet with Haley again before she watched Haley walk off and stood up herself.Heading inside to the castle, Dakota quickly hurried to the Hufflepuff common room, not knowing exactly what she would do after. Once she stepped into the Hufflepuff common room Dakota walked to the Badger Bungalow and into her dorm room. Sitting down on her bed she pulled the curtains around it closed, resting on her side and peering at a photo that rests on her nightstand. Today was a good day rang in her head.@Haley RoseDakota has left the thread.
