Our Get-Along Shirt: Lamik & Henry Detention

It was almost a wonder how this detention was Henry's first detention in the two years he has been at the school. Surely he has broken or bended a few rules before, right?

Anyway the young teen was use to rising early and found himself a plain pair of jeans and his elder brother's sweatshirt before giving some treats to his feline and exiting his dormitory and common room.

The young teen would climb up the stairs to the destined classroom reflecting back on the reason he got detention in the first place, he wasn't engaging nor did he even care about the duel between Dmitri Jones and Flash Holmwood. His wand was pointed at Lamik Fillestar and why? Because the gryffindor won a fair and unbiased duel against a girl he liked. It was odd to Henry, to react so irrationally for a crush especially one that he just realized that was his crush and yet he did it.

Henry would enter the assign classroom and give a small nod to the ravenclaw perfect who assigned the group the detention.

Pericles Dralt; second year, ravenclaw prefect, and brilliant dueler something that Henry only knows because he faced him in the second stages of duels. Also the leader or head or president of the frog choir that he audition for and was in with his friends, a few being Rose Moon and Starlee Kennedy.

Henry looked around didn't see Lamik yet and so the lad figured he should apology for his attempt to get out of detention. Henry watched his captain do it and thought if he stated a few rules then perhaps he could avoid it to, however neither him or his captain invaded detention.

"Hey Pericles," Henry started off with a small wave and smile before continuing, " I'm sorry for stating a few rules then running out, just uh got worried and stressed and couldn't really think," it was lame but at least the young teen never actually called the prefect out like his captain did.

"Anyway I hope nothing will be awkward between us now, especially at choir practice," Henry spoke as he took a seat and struggled with writing.

What was the reason? To defend his dueling captain? To make the duel fair, two against two? Or was he acting for his crush?

Everything the boy thought of sounded pathetic and he considered just lying and coming up with a better reason on why he joined. However Henry was also worried that Pericles would know that he lied so the lad set pen to parchment and begun to write.

The reason why I joined in on the duel or commotion can't be described in a few sentences. I was going to leave when I saw it was between Flash and Dmitri but then when I saw Lamik something sparked in me. I remembered the duel he was in with Alexa Mackenzie and a part of me wanted to jinx him for her. Alexa lost the duel and I watched her get hit unconscious by him, I didn't have any emotions at the moment. I thought and still believe it was a fair duel and Lamik is a brilliant duelist. But for that moment on the sidelines when I saw Lamik join in, a irrational part of me reacted and tried to jinx me. Perhaps for Alexa, but I really don't know.

Henry would set down his pen and read it over a few times, it sounded good and didn't have any excuses written in the line. However the true reason he jumped in and tried to jinx Lamik was his loyalty, Henry was loyal to a default for his friends and family. So it was his loyalty for Alexa that caused him to be sitting at that table on may first writing lines.

Henry would pull a another piece of parchment toward him and bring his pen to that as he thought of the second part of the detention, a apology to Lamik and in a moment the boy started writing.

Lamik, My apologies that I tried to jinx you. Even before Pericles assigned this as my detention I knew it was wrong and did want to find you and apology. That's why I tried getting both of us out of detention which failed, but it was another way for myself to say sorry to you.

Your a brilliant duelist and you cast a fantastic levitation charm! I only tried to jinx you because something in me reacted when I remembered you knocked unconscious a girl I like, Alexa Mackenzie but your duel was completely fair and not biased. I hope you can forgive me.

Henry would set the pen to the side and raise from his chair, he would carry the to parchments to Pericles and hand it to him with a small smile as he spoke" I believe I finished if you want to read them," the young teen would hand both to the ravenclaw before asking, " may I leave now?"

Non-Violent Methods of Diffusing a Violent Situation

When faced with threatening or concerning situations involving other people, it's easy to give in to the temptation of responding with violence. While I'm not entirely certain, there is certainly an argument to be made that I fell victim to that temptation myself just a few days ago. As the reader of this short essay undoubtedly knows, this is the reason that I am currently serving detention. The assignment that I have been given is simple- explain how violent situations don't necessarily require violent responses, and then describe in what way I could have acted that would have been deemed more acceptable.

As I see it, there are two main ways to deal with a violent situation without the use of violence. The first, and the one that would have been most useful during the duel, would be to call a prefect or responsible adult. I considered this briefly before joining the fight, though I have to admit that I might have let my pride get the better of me. In any case, calling someone whose job it is to maintain order in the school could have been a better choice than attempting to deal with the situation myself.

The second option that someone caught in a violent situation could attempt is reasoning with the perpetrator. If you're charismatic enough, and you're understanding enough, or if you're just very very clever, it may be possible to talk an attacker down from whatever they intended on doing. Of course, this is very difficult and is often even impossible, but it is an option worth considering.

In all honesty, I won't pretend that I fully regret my actions. I believe that Dmitri crossed a line beyond what could be considered self-defense when he began using dangerous spells and toying with Flash. I didn't know if any prefects were around to help, and I was worried for him. That being said, I won't pretend that I know for certain that I made the right choice either. It's possible that the whole situation would have been resolved more neatly if I had acted differently.

• The prefect seemed satisfied with the article. He would not dictate which actions were right or wrong, though if one watched closely enough, they may spy a glimmer of approval in his eye as he considered the final paragraph.

Henry would nod toward the ravenclaw pretext after passing him both pieces of parchment however his eye would he caught when he saw Lamik and he decided to apology personally.

The young teen would approach the gryffindor with his barrier up, hiding all emotion except for a small smile and head nod before he would say" hey, uh Lamik right?" not completely sure if he should be talking with the gryffindor, after all he did try to jinx him but also wanted to make amends.

"Listen, I apologize for what happen a few days ago," Henry started and seeing how his words could have sounded force, the young teen needed a better way to say he was sorry or make amends then that. Henry would look over at the ravenclaw pretect as he was considering just leaving but his body felt frozen, he felt like he should do this instead of running away or panicking like usual.

"Pericles didn't ask me to apology but I thought I should, in all honestly I'm glad that jinx missed you because I never wanted to hurt you and I wasn't defending Dmitri either," Henry spoke as he faced Lamik searching for the words that appeared already there and waiting for him to open hi mouth and speak.

"That levitation charm was brilliant and not many could land a spell on Dmitri so watching you jinx him was brilliant," Henry spoke before catching Pericles eye and giving a light, awkward chuckle as he spoke" only joking," he was sort of joking, watching someone jinx his captain was sort of refreshing especially since Dmitri could sort of be tough at times especially when you lost a duel.

"I over redacted and I jinx you because uh-" Henry felt his words cut off, unsure what to say the young teen didn't want to admit out loud that he did what did because of a crush so instead the boy spoke" I'm sorry Lamik and I hope their isn't anything between us or we can start over because you seem like a really cool dude and wicked duelist."

Henry would nod a bit toward the gryffindor with a small smile as he started to take a few steps back and speak" I'll catch you around later Lamik," the young teen would then turn toward Pericles and offer him a small smile as he spoke" I'll see you at frog choir practice, Pericles," Henry then gave both a small and small wave before turning on his heel and leaving the classroom.

As the young teen would walk through the corridors he thought about how he just completed his first detention and not for causing mischief or breaking curfew or skipping class or not wearing his uniform. But instead for trying to jinx someone or engaging in a unauthorized duel because of a girl he liked.

Henry still couldn't because it himself but at least that detention was over. Now to see if he would receive another before the year was over.
