LIBRARY POSTING REMINDERS

Hello! These are just a few OOC reminders we’ve provided to guide players, especially newer ones, with posting.

(1) Before posting, it would be best to make yourself aware of the rules. If you haven’t read the in character and out of character rules around the site, you can find them here [CLICK] and the general "Rules" area here [CLICK]. Remember, if you break the rules in character, you only get in-character detention (if you get caught). However, if you break out of character rules, you will be asked to edit the post or it will be deleted altogether.


(2) Please avoid using "faceless" NPCs (non-playable characters) for your interactions. You are allowed to use them to a certain degree, which you can read here [CLICK]. But that’s about it. Anything beyond that and anything outside of solos might be problematic especially when other players are involved, so we ask you to avoid that.

Also, part of the fun here on Hogwarts.io is getting to interact with other players! So we encourage you to interact and thread with other player’s characters as your comfort allows.

If you're not sure where to start, you can try checking this RPG Partners Requests thread HERE. If anyone's ideas look appealing to you, you can owl them and get a conversation going. You can post your own request for thread partners as well.


(3) Please tag your threads properly. If it is a solo, then please include the tag [SOLO] in the title, and mark them [FINISHED] if you and your thread partners are done with it, or do not plan on posting in that thread again. Accordingly, if you are threading with someone you can also indicate [PV (name of partner)] in the title to tell others that it is private. If you want to leave it open so that anyone can come in and interact with your character, please tag it as [OPEN] in the title. You can find a more comprehensive guide here [CLICK]

THE LIBRARY AND THE LIBRARIAN

When interacting in the library/librarian please take note of the following:

(1) Please do not god mod the librarian without permission. The librarian is a playable character, therefore rules of godmodding apply to them. Godmodding is when you say that they did something for or with your character. It can be anything from saying that they gave your character a book, or access to the restricted section, or let them in past curfew. Unless you are given explicit permission, this is not allowed as per site rules.

If you do want to interact with the librarian, you can interact with them at the Librarian’s Desk or ask for a private thread via their preferred contact method indicated at the end of the post.

(2) Please do not assume there is a different librarian. Again, we have a specific character assigned to that, so please do not RP that Madam Pince or any other character is acting as a librarian. (You might hurt our librarian’s feelings!)

(3) NPC rules extend to the assistant house elves in the library as well. This means you can say that you saw them around, that they bumped into you, or that they handed you a random book you requested (except ones from the restricted section). But you cannot say things like they knew your character’s parents, or your character, or provide you with a book that helps our character uncover something about themselves.

(4) As stated in the Library Rules and Expectations, the Restricted Section is off-limits both IC and OOC for students. Only staff, and students with the abilities: Restricted Charms, Restricted Defense Against the Dark Arts, Restricted Potions, and Restricted Transfguration are permitted to enter.

Apart from that, please avoid RP-ing getting inside this area. You can RP trying to get in, but not getting inside without permission. If you have questions on whether your thread idea is allowed, please contact the librarian.
