Letting out another laugh she smiled at Simon, her blue eyes glittering with amusement “well, it most definitely is not school notes. It’s my fathers, Ellery Olson.” keeping her smile she let out a breath and flipped to the front of the book. Now, starring back at Simon, was the photo of a man, who Simon could presume that it was Ellery. The man had a wide smile, his crystal blue eyes twinkling with happiness as his golden-brown hair was tied back in a bun, he has a bit of a darker tan to his skin than Dakota has. Written above it in gentle yet swoopy cursive was “Ellery James Olson”.Written under this was notes, in the same swoopy cursive, but as the journal goes on it was clear he switched his style of writing. “He enjoyed documenting things, writing his thoughts stuff along that line.” running her hand along the leather cover of the inside of the cover she blinked at Simon. Dakota basically looked like a female version of Ellery, keeping a gentle smile she let out a breath. Dakota, while open about her fathers death, was still very protective of his things, so she kept a hold of the journal.@Simon Kincaid

"That's awesome," he said, glad that she still had a piece of him in a sense although he was gone. Simon didn't have that. His mother had been rather private about her life once she got accepted to Hogwarts because she didn't want her younger sister to be jealous. Then her parents passed away shortly after her graduation and she was throw into adulthood - chosen to take care of that younger sister. She had met a young man and after a brief relationship, cut it off, even though she had learned that she was pregnant. The rest was history.
"I mean, at least you sort of have him with you always, you know?" he elaborated his thoughts a little more on the matter. "And I'm sure it means a great deal to him to know that you value his thoughts so much." Simon was a deeply religious person and believed that one did go on after this existence, so therefore he believed that Dakota's father was watching down on her.
"How about your mum? Do you get along with her well; and any siblings back home in Scotland?" he liked to get to know people, even if it was just the first day of meeting them. Some people took it as too much too soon but Simon saw no reason to wait.

Taking in a breath, Dakota closed the journal, thinking over Simons words. ”er—well, my mother hardly comes around, she’s usually out somewhere, with someone.” pausing, she blinked. Dakota had no idea how to describe her siblings at first, but slowly, she began to speak again “and..Travis, my brother, is a DID system, I have a good relationship with most of the alters. Then there’s Mel, he’s alright, but he acts nothing like me..” drifting off, Dakota was now flipping through pages, seeming to be searching for something. “..and finally, Lynn, my youngest sibling, she looks the most like our mother but she’s a nuisance at times.” Dakota didn’t have the greatest relationship with Lynn, neither did her other two siblings. They never knew exactly why they weren’t as sure about Lynn, maybe the fact that she couldn’t go a day without annoying someone or that she constantly whined.Taking her eyes off the journal she looked up at Simon, pausing in her flipping of the pages. “Do you have any siblings? What about your father-?” Dakota was hesitant to ask the question about Simons father, not being sure exactly what this could bring up. She tried to be a sweet person, but her curiosity overrode that sense of keeping possibly heavy questions close to her chest. “You don’t have to answer either, of course—“ Dakota sucked in a breath, now feeling a bit anxious for Simons reaction.@Simon Kincaid

"It's okay, really. I don't get easily offended and I'm pretty open - I don't mind sharing things and if something gets too personal then I'll certainly let you know. Nicely, of course," he smiled. Simon really was a true Hufflepuff with his friendly nature.
"No siblings here. My mum had me when she was 17 so...pretty young. My aunt that I live with is only 14 years older than I am and I feel sometimes like we have more of a sibling bond than a parental/child sort of bond. I'm judging that based on perceptions of seeing my friends with their parents and then with their siblings. She's wonderful, she's...the nicest person I've ever met and she's giving and bubbly and selfless. Still, she taunts me more like a sister sometimes, especially when it has to do with girls," he shook his head, thinking of how she acted in Hogsmeade when he was gathering his school supplies at the beginning of the year.
"My father...well, I don't exactly know much about him," Simon answered. "There was a lot going on at the time that my mum and he were dating and it was a short while before she felt uncomfortable and called it off. She didn't talk to her sister about it, my aunt, and so I don't even have a name to go on."
The only thing he knew of his father, since now coming to Hogwarts and learning about magical creatures, was that he must be a vampire (although it still didn't almost seem possible). He knew his mother had been a witch and wasn't a vampire or dhampir, therefore for him to be so meant his father was one by default.

Dakota gave Simon a apologetic look, blinking gently as she takes in a breath. “I’m truly sorry about that Simon, your aunt does sound quite amazing though.” giving him a kind smile Dakota finished this sentence and pressed her lips together. Dakota had her father at least for the first four years of her life, even if after that she didn’t have her parents around anymore, instead her older siblings and her grandparents. Dakota knew it wasn’t truly the same, and felt worse for Simon as he hadn’t known either of his parents.Tucking her hands into her lap she let out a deep breath. She hadn’t expected this, the conversation had changed quite quickly but Simon seemed nice enough and quite open. Being unsure about how far she was allowed to go with her questions Dakota decided to tread lightly. “So..you live in London, with your aunt…” pausing, she tilted her head before giving him a smile “well, i stay with my grandparents, on my moms side—my dads side lives in America so I don’t get to spend too much time with them.” tapping her fingers along the leather covering of the journal Dakota tilted her head. She was interested in getting to know Simon, but didn’t truly know what to ask.@Simon Kincaid

Talking with @Dakota Olson
He caught on to the apologetic look when she mentioned his aunt but he just watched her, with bright eyes - or well as bright as his brown eyes could be. They were a warm brown, a welcoming sort of shade, in vast comparison to many that had brown eyes that were darker and didn't show the amount of expression that his did. It was a unique sort of color. She didn't need to feel apologetic.
"America would be a fun trip but I don't suppose I would even know where to start." They had the great cities, the beaches, the desert. Some parts were flat and others were mountainous. Someday he might like to travel, maybe to there or beyond, but travel was rather difficult when one didn't go out much during the day.
He would continue to delve a little into his family history without her even asking about it since it corresponded with her talking about her grandparents. "What is that like? Living with them?" He knew some to find their grandparents to be stuffy and outdated, not relating to them due to the large age gap and growing up in different generations. Still he knew others that felt their grandparents were the most kindest people ever.
"I never knew mine," he shared. "Either set. My mum's parents passed away just after she graduated here from Hogwarts in an accident. She had just turned 17 and now was trying to keep herself afloat and help raise her 14 year old sister. My aunt. I came along after a pretty short relationship and I guess she saw some things she didn't like and got out of the relationship rather early on - despite knowing she was pregnant with me. She didn't even tell him so I don't know if he would have been involved in my life or not and I don't know how those grandparents would have been. My mum didn't talk about that much to my aunt, in fact she never even knew his name so I don't know it either."

Dakota gave a gentle smile as she nodded along. She was glad he wasn’t upset at her for anything she had said. “America isn’t all that great honestly..their ghost stories and urban legends are amazing though.” Dakota didn’t seem too favorable towards America, which because of the way she and people like her had been treated by people there who could truly blame her. Letting out a soft breath Dakota had a joking tone “well, if you ever decide to go to America give me a call and I’ll go with you to show you around.” seeing as her father had kept many notes and maps on his home country, Dakota did know quite a bit about it.Pausing, Dakota tilted her head, seeming to be debating the answer to Simons question. Biting her lip she blinked at him “oh..they’re not too bad, my grandma is amazing but my papa isn’t as..nice-“ Dakota didn’t agree with all the thoughts her grandparents had, but she still tried to love them dearly. “They were basically mine and my siblings guardians, though they didn’t get custody till I was ten.” giving a sigh Dakotas thoughts began to swirl and that didn’t stop me from perching at the window or table waiting on my mom. Dakota tapped her fingers along her book as she listened to Simon yet again.Blinking, Dakota processed what Simon had just told her, tilting her head lightly. ”Do you want to find him?” Dakota had no idea what she would want in that situation. Sighing, Dakota placed her hands into her lap “wow..that’s quite young—for both of them.” Dakota didn't understand death when her father had passed, all she had been told was that he wouldn’t be coming back and they wouldn’t see him anytime soon. Now, Dakota understood it completely, that’s when the pain and sorrow had set in, realizing she didn't truly know her father and hadn’t been able to experience his loss like she should’ve because she was too young. Being brought back to Simon and away from her thoughts she bit her lip “sometimes you get vibes from people, a lot of time I can tell who’s going to be good for me to be around and if something is a bad idea from gut feelings and vibes the person gives off.” Dakota very much believed in these things, guessing either Simons mom had found something early on or possibly got a bad feeling from Simons father.@Simon Kincaid

Asking an important question to @Dakota Olson
She talked about how sometimes she just knew if someone would be good for her, from the vibes she got from someone. He grew rather quiet after that. Since discovering he was a dhampir, he often wondered if he was still the same Simon Kincaid he always was or if he was now half monster. On one hand he always had been a dhampir, ever since birth, ever since conception, but only just now realizing it. Still, he knew that there could be changes as he gets older - the ability to use an unsettling aura, the grown up teeth.
"Yea, some people are pretty good judges of character," he agreed, finally speaking again. He looked over to Dakota and was hesitant to ask, but still knew he needed to. "...What sort of vibe do you get from me?"
Simon looked to her, directly to her eyes. It was a curious look, not one of intensity. He was a good boy, one who devoted himself to kindness and giving, charity and faith. He volunteered and he loved God. He didn't want to be this monster.
What if he had though in him what his father had? What if someday everyone he loved and cared about would walk away from him...because of him?

Dakota blinked, not having expected to be asked this as she tilts her head. For the next few moments Dakota was quiet, as if thinking about the question before she looked back at Simon with a gentle smile “nothing bad, you seem like a good guy Simon.” Dakota kept her gentle smile, peering at him with a soft look. She had not expected that question, while Dakota didn’t get a bad feeling from being around Simon she was also curious about why he had been so hesitant. Dakota held her tongue, guessing this question was something Simon would not be comfortable answering.Using a kind tone Dakota raised a eyebrow, her blue eyes glittering while Simon looks her in the eyes. Taking a deep breath, Dakota kept her smile and began to speak again “and what about me?” Dakota was a bit hesitant to ask this question, she hadn’t been treated kindly at her muggle school, not many people viewed her as a friend, instead as a thing to take their frustrations out on her, typically keeping it verbal as not to give hints as to what Dakota was going through. Dakota kept her head tilted, awaiting Simons answer patiently as she sat with her hands folded in her lap.@Simon Kincaid

Nicely trying to judge @Dakota Olson
He smiled, glad she seemed to think he was a good guy. He did too and planned to keep it that way despite anything else. "You, hmm... I mean, you seem quiet and some do say it's the quiet ones you have to watch out for but something tells me that you're not going to murder our fellow Hufflepuffs in their sleep," he smiled.
"You seem nice, someone anyone would want to call a friend," and he hoped that she considered him one, or at least eventually would. "A little eccentric, but the good kind. I mean, who else knows how to play the ukulele? I can also see you as the type who likes sitting down with a good book as well." It was just a guess, although he really didn't know if he had seen her in the library at all, although it was a rather big place.
"Now, I'm not sure if you're the adventurous type or not," he said, trying to look her over, seeing if he caught some kind of hint somewhere or another. No. "You'll have to tell me if you are or not, and if so, I just might have an idea..." he let that sort of linger out there. It wasn't something that wasn't done before by others and it wasn't something that wouldn't be done again, but it was something he had yet to do while at Hogwarts.
