Blossom Ball - Trial of Persephone
**✿❀○❀✿**
The Trial of Persephone was conceived of in the most delicate thoughts, a clash of splendor and radiance rather than the darkness that bred some of the others that sent chills. Taking place in the Spring Festival side of the Blossom Ball, light was shed upon its base by decorative lanterns, casting innocent shadows along the pillars and dancing across the ground. The partygoers would twirl and spin to the modern, reasonably tasteful tunes, creating silhouettes from cloud nine to prance alongside the others. It was surreal, a beauty so intense that diamonds could spawn at its core and florets could grow from gazes solely observing such sparkle. Resting among it all, peacefully and blending as a blossom in the springtime was born to, the base of said trial.
Yet for some, aesthetics would not be enough. No, they wanted the gems, those kept in the crown of a sovereign. They wanted the titles. Like himself, these children craved recognition, starved for popularity and the perceived power that came with labels such as king or queen. Or maybe they desired the gold reward—not Levi’s personal idea of enticement but an addition that would surely draw a few lesser students into the mix of chosen heroes. Of course, he did not voice these inner beliefs, knowing they were but criticisms of ignorant kids who knew not what blue blood brought. They did not yet know what to need but fortune in quantity, not in eyes, in blood, in endless uproars down the bloodlines. It was their loss, and not his to point out.

All he said was the following, in a gentle, hospitable, though powerful voice. It wasn’t one the Gryffindor recognized, like a foreign tongue behind his own teeth. “Hello, hero. Welcome to the Trial of Persephone, where you will collect a bouquet she so desires.” With those words, he’d give the hero a piece of decorative parchment with the names of six flowers etched across it, accompanied by colored art pieces of the blooms listed, created by yours truly. He was fortunate these sketches were small—any larger and it may be obvious he wasn’t so skilled.
“You’ll have three rounds of six minutes to find each of these flowers. In order to pass this trial, you must find all of the listed flowers within the time window and bring them back to me to present later to Persephone in celebration of her return. Bonus points are awarded should you do this quickly. Should you pick the wrong ones, or not find them all, you will fail the trial.”
“Most can be found nearby, though for some, you may need to venture.” A note of hesitance would be present in his voice. Surely this was his own anxieties getting the better of him—should he warn them? Perhaps just a subtle note, in the case of a lawsuit. Did the wizarding world have lawsuits? The brunet didn’t wish for the ball, in all its perfection, to erupt in chaos. Not over what could be a waking dream that only he could not shake. “The woodline can be dangerous.” Why did he sound so grim? “Be cautious and hurry.”
Should the trees tear themselves from the ground in great discontent for their own soil, it wouldn’t be Levi’s fault. Should they grab at potential victims, fleshy children but with souls unlike the watcher, it wouldn’t be Levi’s fault. Should they writhe and squirm against the current, scaring a heart into stopping, it wouldn’t be Levi’s fault.
Without the parchment in his hand, he was free to indulge in his own nervous habits, rubbing his knuckles raw. As each beautiful flower had a tragic, deadly backstory, such calmness as a bouquet could not exist without violence at its heel. There was no white without black. But as the hero would turn to begin their trial as he whispered a measly commencement, perhaps they would hear his second, quieter mumble. “Good luck.”

TRIAL OF PERSEPHONE
Welcome! This is one of six trials, provided as rewarded side activities for the Blossom Ball and are not mandatory. Two of the participants will be named King and Queen of the ball for outstanding performances in every trial, decided by tallied points as we moderate your results. Along with those bragging rights, expect galleons to slide into your pocket.
Remember, you are only eligible for this prize if you complete all of the trials before the deadline. That deadline will be the sixth moderation post (July 9th) of the main event, and a reminder will be provided beforehand. Feel free to speak to Levi, though do not godmod him.
In order to participate in this trial, please post an RPG below of minimum 200 words describing your character performing the trial. Please do not mention whether or not you locate the flowers, as that will be determined in my moderation post after the deadline has passed.
The flowers to be found are as follows:
- Aster
- Anemone
- Narcissus
- Red spider lily
- Dianthus
- Hyacinth
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Remember: It requires ONE action in a round of the main thread to participate in ALL of the trials.
Some stories should never be told...

English = 5D4A64 | Russian = 4E7A27For Moderation:As Irina walked up to this trial she started regretting her decision to wear such a long dress. It seemed like this trial was in the grass and she would probably have to walk by holding up her gown. When she was handed a sheet of paper with a list of flowers and told that she would have to collect a bouquet her mind had already disregarded messing up her dress and focused on the task at hand.
All she had to do was collect some flowers, and the list didn’t even look that hard. There was detailed pictures of each that would be very helpful and Irina was great at spotting things. As the boy spoke of danger, Irina couldn’t help but let out a little laugh. Everything had been dangerous up to this point but that didn’t stop her from trying. These trials were not something she had ever had the chance to do at Koldovstoretz and it was the type of adventure she had come here to do.
Turning away from the boy to start collecting the flowers, Irina heard a slight whisper from the boy. Luck wasn’t what she needed right now, what she needed was collect these flowers faster than everyone else and become the queen of this ball.

It was here, Xailah would begin to question what she was doing. She hadn't taken the time to wonder why she was participating in these trials- in fact she had no idea why she had join- Oh. Thats right. Curiosity. It had been curiosity right? She supposed that was it. But if so, why continue? Well, she did one. Might as well commit to doing all of them. Not to mention she wanted to know how all of this would end. What even was the prize for accomplishing all these tasks? A pat on the back? A silly title to flaunt? Was there even a prize? Shouldn't she be at the party, maki- watching for trouble? These were the sort of things running around in Xailahs mind, as she scanned over the list of flowers she needed to gather.
This Persephone was beginning to sound like quite the demanding lady. Fetch me a pomegranate. Get me a bouquet made with these flowers specifically. Gosh Persephone, maybe get up and get your own pomegranate, and flowers. What was she going to want next? A dance? A funny little jig? Ugh. The nerve. Xailah gave a sigh, as she thumbed over a parchment that depicted several scrawled depictions of... flowers. At least she certainly hoped they were supposed to be flowers. She squinted. Golden hues flickered across the names next to each sketch. Xailah wished she had her sister around, she was good with identifying flowers. Oh, what was she thinking? She didn't need her help. This was flower picking! How hard could picking flowers possibly be?

Blossom Ball - Trial of Persephone

Durmstrang 3rd year Yefim Rumyantsev
As the parchment would be put into Yefim's massive arms, he would glower at the pipsqueak, growling at the easy target to strike some fear in him. No real reason, he just thought it would be funny. This was a trial he was also sure he could ace, since it relied on running fast, which was fun. The problem of course was needing to identify flowers based off of a sketch. He definitely wasn't going to be picking them off the names, he could hardly sound out the English words properly, let alone recognize the foreign names. Another cheat to try and put him at a disadvantage. It wouldn't work.
Studying the drawings over and over again, the starting of the clock would have him dart out fast enough to imagine a trail of fire being left in his wake. Whether this place was 'dangerous' or not, he would just go for the most obvious ones first and then after that just try to figure it out the best he could. It wasn't like matching a picture to a real flower was much of a challenge, besides the fact that many flowers looked the same. He would just focus on speed, his real forte, and destiny would fulfill the rest.

Blossom Ball - Trial of Persephone

Why indeed did their organizer sound so dark when mentioning the woodline? When Elena thought of the woodline, she thought of the Forbidden Forest. The Forbidden Forest held all things nasty and dangerous that your mind could only imagine but they were on school grounds. Centaurs, spiders and all those abonomiations lurked deep within the trees and nowhere close where they could harm some innocent young souls out to pick some flowers which had names that even Elena had trouble pronouncing. The apellation for the red spider lily did not sound very comforting. The brunette was sure they had probably stumbled upon some of these flowers in their studies, probably used one or two of them most likely in Herbology or Potions but she gave thanks that the trial regardless of the everlasting suspense was in essence not too much of a painstaking task.
If Persephone wanted a bouqet, she would get one. Why these flowers and why not just any pretty ones Elena could pick off the ground, she knew not. There were several perfectly good-looking and healthy sunflowers the Gryffindor could see from here but if she had learned anything about this school in the past three years she had been here, it was that everything was done for a purpose and the moment you decided to take shortcuts or try to come up with your own solution to something that was laid out, it ended up backfiring on you. That was proven to her back on the train when she had disregarded the boy's shouting voice and they had wound up being exploded off the tracks. Now, here they were tromping about in the woods collecting flowers of all things. It couldn't be too bad given that this was the last trial. It seemed fitting to end on a gentle note.
The girl walked around, her eyes scanning for the flowers putting their name to memory. The names might have been a bit of a mouthful but she was sure she would spot anything that stood out of the blue. Elena had a feeling these were plants that were not native to the Hogwarts area and as such, they should be easy to spot. The question was, where by Merlin were they hiding and to add on top of it, they were working against the clock with a grand total of six minutes repeated over three rounds. That meant she should probably do her best to gather as much early on so she didn't have to feel as rushed in the final round. That meant actually finding these things as the seconds clicked on. "Come out, come out, wherever you are. "Elena muttered to herself, pupils shifting this way and that. It was like a makeshift version of hide and seek except Elena had always been terrible at that game even if it was with a bunch of flowers.

Blossom Ball - Trial of Persephone
[font=Times New Roman]Ah. Flowers. Anja disliked every inch of the floral decorations installed at her estates during events — specifically, the ones associated with her birth month, chrysanthemum. However, her upbringing defaulted that she should know the meaning of every flower used in conventional displays. The list of flowers was by no means a particularly eclectic combination, and they made perfect sense together. Not only did the material flowers compliment each other, but many of the meanings behind the flowers also complemented each other.
The aster symbolised wisdom and faith — it was in fact the only flower that actually stood out to Anja on the list. It was quite a plains flower, and its meaning wasn't quite as dark as most of the other ones. The anemone symbolised fragility and anticipation, but should it be red, it would show a sign of death or forsaken love. The narcissus was another flower with a more conventionally known 'happy' connotation, but an older, more ancient association was that because the head of the flower drooped when looked at, it was an omen of death. The red spider lily was aid to have guided the dead through a cycle of rebirth, in old Buddhist writings. The dianthus symbolised gratitude and admiration, and the hyacinth, peace, commitment and beauty — but also power and pride.
After her scan of the flowers' meanings Anja proceeded to begin the errand. She smiled at how well the choice of flowers went with Persephone's personality and experiences. She remembered to be careful when picking the flowers, not to bend their stems and to make a clean, horizontal cut when picking them. It was a shame she hadn't brought a pocket knife. With a confidence she had every right to feel, Anja started on the errand.

OutfitPericles commonly credited his familiarity for herbology to his mother. Although her greatest strength lie in divination, Lady Dralt's green thumb was nothing to turn one's nose at. While her son was not yet well-versed with botany, he was ever eager to help her with her work, be it simple matters of pruning or repotting or drying herbs. His fascination for flower language in particular could be credited to a story his father had shared with him. The two had met while the patriarch was still an auror, cold on the trail of some elusive case. He had sought guidance and shelter from the mysterious swamp witch, and although he was a man of few words (and even less shows of affection) back then, had thanked her with a bouquet some time later. The combination wove an intricate expression: yellow agrimony and purple canterbury bells for gratitude, yellow fennel for one worthy of praise, purple iris in resemblance of Heaven's guidance, wisdom, and respect. He sprinkled in purple heather for one worthy of admiration, white heather for protection, and white chrysanthemum for loyalty, honesty, and friendship.
Peri was not a romantic, but he was smitten with that story, namely the way in which his father learned an alternate method of communicating his feelings through symbolism and vibrancy. What message, he wondered, was this particular combination trying to tell? He remembered aster's namesake was tied to the Greek word for "star", given the way its petals resembled one, and that they signified love or faith. Yet the sweetness ended with anemone, the red variation being symbolic of death or forsaken love. Narcissus had an infamous backstory, and while it was commonly considered to represent renewal and rebirth, its ancient interpretation, when drooping, was another omen of death. Lovely as it was, red spider lily was said to grow in the afterlife, guiding the deceased to their next reincarnation. Dianthus was a mystery, save that in ancient Greece, they were woven into ceremonial crowns. Hyacinth represented sorrow and jealousy, though its relevance to the theme shone above the rest for Pericles, who recalled its story clearly. The sun god Apollo and west wind god Zephyr, competing for the love of a young man named Hyakinthos, accidentally murdered the mortal through their foolish squabbling. The flower was said to have bloomed from the boy's blood.
Pericles hummed to himself in wonder while setting out to gather the flowers listed. What a grim, magnificently macabre bouquet this would make.Enthusiastically attempting to track down flowers (and their symbolism)

Blossom Ball - Trial of Persephone
Flowers...flowers were nice though just by the names Adlai could personally only recognize two. One being the red spider lily, this was due to the fact that her grandmother, on her mothers side, had warned her and her sisters to stay away from them and specifically people who grew them as they were flowers of death, grief, and misfortune and allegedly grew on the graves of those punished by death themself. Adlai's parents thought nothing of it though, seeing it as just an elders superstition.
However, there was one superstition related to flowers that her parents do believe in and that is if one grows Hyacinths on their land they are bitter, lonely people even if the flower does represent love and purity. Adlai supposed they only believed it since her great aunt, Margret-Viktoria, grew Hyacinths in her front yard and has for some time. Even though, those who do not know her well could describe her as bitter, they could not specifically describe her as lonely since now Adlai likes to think that her great aunt has begun to open up to her and has slowly began to reassimilate herself with the wonderful wizarding world.
Nonetheless, the other flowers listed were void from her mind and thus she would just have to watch and learn from other students and hope to find her way though trial and error.

Blossom Ball - Trial of Persephone
Mikael pulled up his mask briefly to get a better look at his piece of parchment. He himself had never been good at telling flowers apart. His tutors had never thought of him being able to tell apart flowers as important knowledge for him to carry. Though, that did not render him completely hapless. The rough sketches of the needed flowers would provide all of the knowledge he would need. His eyes moved across the paper slowly taking in the small details of each individual flower. The sketch under Anemone looked identical to the ones his grandmother used to put near the front door. Though, that had been when he was still a child. The vase had been empty of life for a long time. Only dust remaining where the smell of flowers used to remain. Mikael huffed pulling his mask roughly back over his face before charging forward. He had little time for memories of the past. All he needed to do was find these flowers as quickly as possible. The boy decided he would look for one flower at a time. That way he could focus on the details of each flower more clearly. Rather than try to remember each drawing by memory.

Dan was intrigued by this one. This trial was to take place in the actual spring celebration area... Sort of.
He had already finished two trials before this one; The Trial of Apollo, and then the Trial of his dad, Hermes. Since his dad's trial was to get Persephone a pomegranate, Dan figured he might as well do Persephone's actual trial next.
Having gotten his instruction from Levi, Dan was.... very mildly confused. The trial, it appeared, was.... picking flowers. There HAD to be a catch. Aside from the "Find the right ones in the time limit or else" catch.
In addition, Persephone seemed a bit.... needy. First a pomegranate that she could have ordered any of her underworld servants to get for her, but she just HAD to have a demigod do it, and now she wanted flowers? Very VERY specific flowers in a timely fashion? Geez, someone was high maintenance.
While he wasn't exactly worried; he was a well trained demigod, there wasn't an AWFUL lot that could outright worry him. (Well trained meaning he was at camp for 2 summers. Not THAT well trained) But, while speed was one of his specialties, flowers were not. That was Demeter Cabin's department, not Hermes.Thankfully, he was given a parchment describing what the flowers were like. That made things MUCH easier. So long as Dan thought of retrieving the flowers as swiping treasures, he was confident he could get them all.
"So, Lady Persephone wants flowers, does she? Fine. I, Dan Palmer, Son of Hermes, will retrieve them."
And so,Dan set off on his latest quest to.... ugh. Obtain flowers.
