Today was a special day, a chance for a bit of romance or platonic love. It was an opportunity to have a little bit of fun and make room for love in your heart, whether that was a new blossoming relationship or to help grow an old one. Love was a powerful emotion, capable of achieving great things. This event was the push that was required to help those in need to make that first step, to find a bond that they could treasure for the years to come. Maybe people will find their childhood sweethearts here or build the foundation of a bond that only grows.

Perhaps that was too optimistic. Nonetheless, this was a way to escape from the drama and angst, a chance to just have a little bit of fun and have a cute date. And what better location to spend with someone than under the stars?

Entering the Astronomy Tower, students would see the familiar staircase decorated with floating paper hearts that gently spun around in the sky. Following the trail of hearts up the staircase, they would enter into the Astronomy classroom at the top of the tower. The entrance to the classroom had a large arch made from paper flower roses in different shades of pink and red around it.

Walking through the arch, people will be greeted by a very different decor than they were likely used to seeing at the astronomy tower. Heart garlands were draped on the edge of the tables and paper hearts floating in the room randomly. There was a sign on the side, saying "please take one". In smaller text, it also said, "You may take up to one of each if you would like".

By the sign, people would see three main options. The first was a vase of pink roses. If anyone looked carefully, they would notice that the thorns had been cut off from the stems. Taking out a rose, they would notice a small label attached to the stem. The second choice was little bags of sweets. A transparent bag holding a small variety of heart-shaped chocolates or sweets. There was ribbon around the bag that tied it shut and a blank label on each bag. The third choice was an eggless cupcake, with glitter icing on it that looked like a rose. On the cupcake case, there was a blank sticker label here too.

When someone took one of the items (or multiple), the blank labels would start to change immediately. They would see words start to form on them. It would give them a number. That was it. A number.

Looking up, they would likely spot a room full of picnic blankets scattered around the area. There was also a foil heart-shaped balloon that came in white, pink or red. They had a small weight on the bottom of the strings to prevent them from flying away. On either side of the balloon itself, they would see a number.

It was clear that they were supposed to go to the respective number to meet their blind date.

On finding their matching balloon, they would look down to see there were two cushions on top of the picnic blanket, with a hamper in the middle. The hamper itself contained a variety of snacks: biscuits, chocolates, scones, cream, jam and cake. There were also some small sandwiches, in case anyone wanted something a little heavier. For drinks, there was a small teapot of hot water that was magically kept hot in the hamper. They would find a small selection of teas, as well as hot chocolate powder in the hamper too - with sugar and milk. For those who preferred a cold drink, there was also water and juice available.

It was definitely on the colder side up in the tower. Being wrapped up in a coat and some gloves would probably be ideal. Hats and scarves would be a decent idea too. After all, the sun had set and it was the middle of winter. However, the sheer number of people around as well as the fireplaces helped to add a bit of warmth to it that prevented it from being freezing. People would not need to wear snow boats as it was not freezing by any means. However, it was definitely suggested that people dressed up warm for the evening.

Sitting down and looking up, they would see the beautiful starry night sky showering over them. Anyone who was good at Astronomy might be able to name some of what they see.

So. Here he was.

Dan had debated for a while whether or not to do this. Sure, he signed up for it, but that was an impulsive decision that he had soon regretted.
So what if he didn't show? Its not like they'd know who it was that was supposed to meet them, whoever they were.
But... gods that seemed like such a dick move. To stand someone up and they not even know who you were. That actually seemed worse than being stood up and knowing who the person was.

Dan eventually had caved into his better nature, got dressed as nicely as he could be bothered to, and headed up to the tower.
He wore his nicest sweater, silver and emerald in Slytherin style, the green being the main color, with lovely silver snowflakes all about, with flecks of gold here and there for a nice flair.
He wore long shorts, going well past his knees, but not long enough to reach all the way down his shins, as the bottoms of them would get dirty.
As per his usual, he was barefooted. He said he'd dress nice, not that he'd wear those abominable shoes.

Coming up and finally reaching the Astronomy Tower (who's bloody idea was it to have this blind date thing HERE?) he noticed a table with Valentines objects on it.

To his delight, it said he could take one of each, which eliminated the difficult task of having to choose. Dan took a rose, a cupcake, and a small bag of valentines candy, found his matching balloon, and sat down to wait. Surely it wouldnt be that long until someone came, as he was pretty sure he had arrived a little late.

He saw a hamper full of lovely things to eat, and hot water for drinks, along with juice. Dan made up a cup of hot chocolate, and brought a glass of juice to him as well, as he enjoyed both.
And so, he sipped his hot chocolate, and waited.

Love. Romance. Intimacy. These were the concepts the surrounded the holiday of Valentines Day. These however were concepts that Tyranni was not interested in finding. At least not in a romantic sense like the older students she had seen walking around the halls, holding hands or snogging in the corner. However, she realized that this holiday could still celebrate the love between friends. That was why she signed up. Last year it was how she met her good friend Andy. What harm could come from trying to meet new students?

Ascending the stairs to the astronomy tower that was garnished in paper hearts, she was dressed in black pants and a comfy deep red sweater. She had assumed that it might be a bit chilly, sitting outside at night at the top of the tower, but hopefully her choice of clothing would be enough. Body heat between an abundance of students would also help right? She reached the top of the stairs, pushed open the door, stepped through an arch of paper flowers, and emerged into a world filled with other students chattering in small groups, more floating hearts, and a table filled with various items. Walking over to the table, she would grab a rose and a small cupcake. Mumbling to herself, she pondered about how to find who she was to meet. "Maybe the tag randomly pairs us with someone?" Flipping the tag over, a number began to appear. Confused, she glanced back up at the group of students to see balloons scattered around the tower near groups of students, numbers on each balloon. Ah-ha! I see now. Okay, where is the matching number? She glanced around nervously, unsure of what she might find. Spotting the balloon, she headed off in the general direction, weaving through other groups of students. She saw her friend Opeila sitting with Flash and Jack. Rafael, whom she had co-hosted an event this summer at the Durmstrang vs Hufflepuff quidditch match, was surrounded by a few people. Then she saw him. Thomas Lestrange. She felt a pit in her stomach form, but it was alleviated when she noticed that her number did not match his balloon.

Just beyond she reached her designated area to find...Dan?

"Hey Dan. I think we got matched? They must have gotten something wrong, but at least I already know you pretty well!" She grabbed some tea from the hamper and a sandwich. "Do you want a sandwich? I think I am going to eat. I am starving." She grabbed the items, sat down on the pillow that was placed on the ground, and got comfortable. This wasn't exactly what she had planned for the night, as she was hoping to have been paired with someone she did not already know so she could try and make more friends, but at least she wasn't paired with someone she outright hated. Dan and her were familiar, both being friends of Andy and captains on the the quidditch team. There could be worse pairings.

Søren was quite excited for this one. There was not much opportunity for him to use his clearly superior social skills at Hogwarts. Most of his time was spent behind the books which, as his grades showed, was done with little to no success. He’d even dropped practicing Qudditch in favor of upping his academic status. Worst choice of his life, if he had anything to say about it. The announcement of the Valentine’s event came as a welcome surprise. Spending some time kicking back was sure to do him some good mentally, if not educationally.

Always one to dress up, the pureblood decided to take it easy tonight. Sure, he should be styled to the nines for the potential date that he was about to go on, but he felt as if the vibe at the school was far off from most things in his trunk. He arrived at the base of the Astronomy Tower clothed in a simple sweater, with the collar of a button-up visible at his neck. He very much enjoyed the decorations, preferring the more vibrant colours to the earthy tones of his day to day life in the castle. If he had more gut, he’d forgo this event completely and fly up the tower on a broom, trying to grab the paper hearts for himself.

Instead, he made his way through the arch and plucked a rose from the welcoming table. What if it’s a boy? Do they like roses? ...What if it’s a girl and she doesn’t like roses? So he took a bag of hearts as well, and searched for the number that appeared. The boy was very impressed by the organisation of this whole thing.

He approached the blanket with his number, and was confused as to why there were already two people sitting there. When he wrote “either” on the signup sheet, he didn’t expect the matchmakers to take it as “both”. A quick scan of the room alerted him to the alarming number of blankets being occupied by more than two, more than three, people. Guess I should count my blessings. Unless the rest of their posse hadn’t arrived yet.

Hey guys,” he approached with a smile and a wave. “I think I’m grouped with you,” he said, motioning to the number that matched their balloon. He stopped himself before he asked to take a seat. The adults he spent too much time around liked when he asked for permission, but there was no need to do that in front of his peers. As he knelt, he noted that both were players on his house’s Quidditch team. Tyranni Whitehorn, the co-captain, and Dan Palmer, the seeker, were actually sitting in front of him right now. OMG. Any confidence in himself went straight over the balcony in the tower, and he suddenly felt disappointed in himself for reducing his time on the broom.

Here, these are for you,” he said after clearing his throat, extending the rose for Tyranni and the candies for Dan. He looked to the two, and gasped. “Oh, wait!” and crossed his arms over, swapping the intended person for each favor. “Um.” And swapped them back. “Y’know what. Nevermind. What’d I miss?” he asked, setting the favors down and taking a water from the basket. "Ah, I'm Søren, by the way."

She was scarfing down a sandwich like a rabid dog when a third person approached, though she only saw a flash of checkered shoes as they approached. With one hand she put the sandwich back on the plate and her other hand to her mouth, looking towards the new arrival. Much like a waiter at a restaurant, it never fails that a huge bite had just been taken when a response is needed. She gave a small wave to the boy with her free hand after having placed down the sandwich.

She chewed as fast as she could and swallowed the bite. "Hey Soren. You didn't miss much. I just got here a little bit ago. I didn't know there would be a third person or else I would have waited to start eating." It was apparent the boy felt a bit nervous or out of place. She had remembered him from his time on the quidditch team, when he was a second string chaser. She hadn't questioned why the boy had left the team, as roster swaps happened frequently, but she hoped that being with both the teams captains were not making him uncomfortable.

"I hope the year has been going well for you. I like your shoes. My mother always told me a shoe is what completes an outfit, something Dan apparently doesn't agree with." She wasn't sure what to say, but letting out a small laugh, she hoped her awkwardness was less noticeable. Though she was a bit bold at times, the girl was more comfortable sitting back and observing events around her, listening to what was being said. Small talk however, not one of her skill sets. At least being aware of it meant she could work on trying to improve. Acutely aware of the discomfort now settling over her, she hoped Dan would interject and chat. He was far more capable of holding a conversation, being a bit more chatty than she was.

Dan was.... very confused, and more than a little upset. Of all people, Tyr showed up. Dan was 100 percent sure he specified male when he signed up for this. So what was the deal? Was this some kind of cruel trick? Was someone trolling the entire school?

Dan sighed. It looked like he wasnt going to find his new love here. Why int he world did he expect any different? First Ozzy abandoned him, then Ruka did the same thing. Why would something he put hope in actually work out and properly deliver?

Dan froze up his face. He was determined not to cry. No matter how much he wanted to, mostly in frustration. At the very least, he was going to have a nice time with the food. And it wasn't as though he disliked Tyranni. They were on the same team, and both knew Andy. This might not be the result he had hoped for, but at least it wasn't going to be unpleasant.

Then, Soren also showed up, and offered him candy.
Dan blinked in confusion. This was supposed to be a pair thing, why was there a third?
Dan accepted the candies, of course. HE wasn't about to turn down candy. And then he remembered. Soren had left the quidditch team. The anime lover in Dan wanted to call it a betrayal and make a tense, dramatic scene of it, but he knew better. Dan cared not why he left, other than he wanted to. Which is reason enough to.

Tyr answered his question, and said something about shoes making the outfit.
What a load of bollocks.
"Bah. Keep yer foot prisons, I'll have nun'v it. So, Soren. Not seen ye around lately. What'v ye been up ta, after leavin' the team?"

Unless something incredibly outstanding happened to occur, the girl chose to just sit back, enjoy the food, the cool air, and watch the night sky. There was such peace that would permeate the soul when stargazing. Small fires dotting the sky, flickers of light casting the faint glows that allowed everyone to see minimally at night. It was a time of vulnerability. A time for quiet contemplation about life, but also a time when ones guard should be at its highest. You never know what might sneak up on you in the dark.

She continued to snack on some of the items that had been present in the little baskets provided by the events coordinators. There were certainly individuals that had shown up tonight she momentarily had thought about eavesdropping on, but that would require getting up from her place and trying to be inconspicuous, and really that seemed to be too much work at this point.

Hopefully Dan would be content talking to Søren, as Tyranni was perfectly content leaning back and enjoying the evening. She began to notice students leaving, unconcerned about the events that may have been unveiled tonight. Instead, unless stopped on her way out by one of the two other students, she would take her leave.

"It has been very pleasant but I believe that I will be taking my leave of this party. Enjoy yourselves!" Gathering the trash left behind from her engorgement of food and drink, she stood up, took a small curtsy, and headed back towards the entrance of the tower.
