If there was one thing Jan had to compliment about the school, it would be perhaps just the massive amount of bodies that were piling into the Great Hall and the tables adorned with foods of all kinds. Durmstrang was never this lively or welcoming really at it's opening reception. He leaned over to snag a chip plopping it into his mouth as he surveyed the crowds. You couldn't tell who was who really but he could bloody well guess maybe going off facial features and accents. A question captured his attention as his head shifted to lock with the girl's who had slid into the seat next to him. Clearly younger but defintenly not Durmstrang, Jan thought to himself as he glanced down a bit towards her before shrugging his shoulders. "Same as usual though I swear that boat could use some new sails."

The last thing any of them wanted was to be stranded in the middle of the ocean on a magical boat. The thought of such a thing happening was laughable at best. "So, which one of these fine establishements are you a part of?" Jan asked nodding towards the babble of students which only seemed to be getting bigger and bigger much to the German boy's surprise. Perhaps this Hogwarts had garnered more influence and reputation than he had intially thought if it was this popular. One thing was certain, the girl defintely wasn't an Hogwarts student, she had to be from one of the visitng schools if she was prodding him about the trip. As he opened his mouth to push forth another comment. another voice, this one much more lively broke into their bubble and a quick glance revealed it to belong to an boy who wasted no time in dashing Jan's hopes and dreams of having a peaceful feast.

His expression briefly registered annoyance at first before replacing it quickly with the best smile he could muster up. "Jan Aalberg." He replied filing away the name for reference watching the exchange between the two students. Ah, so he was surrounded by two Americans, how charming. If these two were any prime examples, he came to the conclusion that these visitors from the northen hemisphere were much too full of energy for his liking. He supposed that any hope he had of passing this feast in relative peace and silence was a far-gone hope reasonable given the sheer amount of students that had been packed into this hall. "Any of you ever been here before?" The boy posed nodding to the hall around them. Well, Jan had technicaly but he had never had the pleasure(or misfortune perhaps) of stepping foot inside the castle. The design and construction of the place was at least noteworthy, he supposed.

Ugh. Every word from Arjan's mouth caused Dolf to wince. He struggled to keep a straight face; anyone looking might have noticed that the goblet hadn't left his lips for some time now, helping to hide his increasingly uncontrollable smirk. It was just so ridiculous. It was sad, almost. It was...it was...

...It was working. Dolf nearly dropped his cup as Arjan set the girl's goblet down on the table and introduced himself to her. She hadn't sat down yet, so she wasn't absolutely smitten, but she hadn't walked away either. Or thrown her drink in Arjan's face. Abandoning his efforts to appear uninterested, Dolf watched the girl closely as Arjan held out his hand for a handshake. She looked confused above all — no surprise there. Dolf was anxious to see what happened next. Part of him wanted to interrupt the conversation and mess with Arjan a little; maybe tell the Hogwarts girl that Arjan had a girlfriend already. Maybe tell her that he had a boyfriend. That would be good. But there would definitely be consequences for doing that, and if Dolf could avoid getting punched in the face, he'd prefer to. And there was another part of him that wanted to know if Arjan really was the Casanova he thought he was. This was as much an experiment as it was a conversation. It wouldn't be right to interfere with the results.

The sound of his own name brought Dolf back to the real world, and he glanced at Arjan in surprise. He'd thought he might have been forgotten about. But no — that was not the case. The lover boy had a plan, and it involved Dolf somehow.

"Say, Novikov, you wanted the grand tour of this place, right? This is only my second time here, unfortunately. However, perhaps this lovely lady here could show us around." Oh, that bastard. Dolf narrowed his eyes at Arjan and forced a laugh.

"Oberoi, you didn't think I was..." The word serious died on Dolf's lips as he looked to the Hogwarts girl again. As much as he hated to play into Arjan's scheme, he didn't want to insult their newfound companion or her school. First impressions were very important to Dolf. That would not have been a good one. So, composing himself and taking a split second to switch gears, he put on a smile. "I mean, that sounds like a... great idea. If you don't mind?" This last part was directed to the girl, who was yet to introduce herself. Dolf didn't want to drag her into anything she didn't want to do. That was Arjan's job. But he couldn't deny that he wanted to see the castle. And a tour from a Hogwarts student, despite whatever ulterior motive Arjan had behind it, was a damn good way to do it.

"I know a few fourth years that might be able to join us too," Arjan claimed, not-so-subtly showing off his hair and his arm muscles. Dolf was surprised to hear him admit it. He'd gotten the sense that Arjan didn't want to be associated with Hogwarts in any way. Unless, of course, he was hoping to get "associated" with some certain fourth-year Hogwarts girls. That had to be it. Dolf shrugged.

"Why not?" he said. "Why not bring along everyone we meet, hm? To see the place." He nodded his head towards the Beauxbatons students seated near them, engaged in their own conversation, and leaned over to them when he heard a lull.

"Hello," Dolf said with a nod to each of the girls. One was blonde, the other a brunette. They looked maybe a year or two younger than Dolf and Arjan. "Sorry to interrupt. Would you like to see the rest of the castle with us? We're thinking of taking a tour. I've never been."

In the back of Dolf's mind, there was a little alarm bell going off. They hadn't been told they could walk around without a professor. This was probably against the rules. He'd get into trouble on his first day at Hogwarts, and they'd never allow him back. He'd miss the dance and everything. But that alarm was muted by the sense of competition he suddenly felt against Arjan. He didn't know where it had come from. All he knew was that he wasn't going to back down now.

(If there's anyone else that's hanging around with these people/interacting with Drew that I missed, feel free to tell me)
Charles greeted him brightly, and Drew was now inserted into the conversation and the group of people. Charles mentioned Cassie, and Drew guessed that that was the brunette. He guessed it could have been the white-haired boy, but he seriously doubted it. The white haired boy quietly introduced himself, Charles then referred to the white haired boy as Werner, so now he knew everyone's names that they were hanging around. "Alright," he said with a nod. Iris confirmed her name, and added a last name. Iris Kingston. Drew didn't remember that being her last name before, but maybe he had been wrong. He didn't have a super excellent memory.

Cassie introduced herself anyway, first as Cassie from Beauxbatons, and then, just to be careful not to confuse anyone, Cassie verified her name, but all in the wrong order. Drew was about to repeat her name just to confirm, but was soon interrupted by loud yelling from Cassie, an exclamation.

They were quickly joined by an extremely loud redhead girl. She was a bit of a rambler, but was definitely happy to see Cassie- it was obvious that they had known each other a long time. They were both loud, obnoxious happy and bright. They had a lot to say, and they definitely said it.

Drew decided that he liked them. There were very few people that Drew didn't like, to be honest. He liked all kinds of people- loud and quiet, big and small, and he liked the people around him so far. They were very diverse. The redhead asked them to introduce themselves, in a kind of arrogant way, but Drew didn't mind. She told them all that she was Scarlett, and Drew could definitely believe that she was a certified talker, as well as around his age. "I'm Drew, from Ilvermory. Proud American and devourer of cheeseburgers," he shared, piggybacking off of Scarlett's idea of offering very important parts about his character and what they should all know.

Cassie announced that she was hungry, dragging Charles and Scarlett towards the table to help herself to some cauliflower cheese. Drew smiled and glanced to Iris, shaking his head a little lightheartedly, then followed the enthusiastic girl and the people she was dragging along behind her. Iris sat next to Charles and Charles seemed to be saving a seat for Werner, so Drew went around to sit on the other side of the table. That way he could see everybody that he was hanging around with, and talk with them about equally.

Drew couldn't help but laugh when Cassie decided to introduce Scarlett as Lettuce. "Where did Lettuce come from?" he asked. The Wampus squinted. "It must be like, the red lettuce, because you don't look very green. Red lettuce is a thing, right?" Yeah, they definitely had known each other a long time. They both seemed determined to embarrass each other, whether with teasing about boys or teasing about nicknames.

Now to start eating. The food here at Hogwarts was nothing less than absolutely amazing. Drew had learned that at his last visit, and it was one of the things he had looked forward to now that he was coming his second time. "Hey, Lettuce, is the Hogwarts food always like this?" he asked Scarlett, using her formal title. "Or is it just specially made extra good when the other schools come? Because, you know, we're worth cooking lots of food for."

Maddie went about filling a plate with food, feeling pretty famished. It had been a long day of packing and preparing for the carriage ride to Hogwarts, and the travel itself had been tiring too. Plus she hadn't eaten a very big lunch, so she intended to make up for it here! The brunette started by piling a little bit of rice and fish on a plate. It wouldn't be enough to fill her since she wanted to try an array of the different foods on the table (it all smelled really good!), but this was a good place to start. She shoveled a spoon of rice into her mouth just as her friend asked about Nora.

Nora Jensen, Cassanora's father's girlfriend. This woman was the Head of Slytherin here at Hogwarts, which is apparently how she and Mr Browne had met. A workplace romance. Of course Madeleine didn't know all the details - only the stuff that Cass shared with her - so her opinion was heavily influenced by that of her best friend. It's not like Maddie had ever interacted with the lady, aside from the fact that because she and Cassanora had been together when they arrived, it meant Nora had offered Maddie a nod of greeting too. Or at least, that's what she thought was the reason for the nod.

"She does seem nice," Mads agreed, mirroring Cassanora's sentiments. If Cassanora had said the opposite - that she hated Nora - Maddie would have been finding everything wrong with the woman to criticize. Her hair, her clothes, anything she could think of. Even if Maddie actually thought Nora's hair was very cool (which she did), she would prioritize backing up her best friend. But Maddie was happy that Cassanora thought nicely of her father's girlfriend - it probably made home life nicer. "She seems to really like our headmaster, maybe your father has some competition," the brunette joked, referencing the fact that Professor Jensen had mainly spent her time talking to Headmaster Monserrac during Beauxbatons' arrival.

Maddie giggled with Cass when she commented on her father's antics at Hogwarts - Mr Browne was pretty silly, so the comment on the castle still standing was funny. "I bet he made a great first impression on the school he greeted," she said with another giggle. Maddie thought Mr Browne was hilarious, even if Cass had warned her about his occasional cheesiness.

Maddie took another bite of her food, humming a song softly as she looked around the Great Hall. Just as the topic of the ball came to mind, there was a voice directed at them.

Mads' brown eyes landed on one of the Durmstrang boys sitting nearby. He was leaning towards them, his words clearly meant for the two girls. "Hello," she said pleasantly, mirroring his greeting as she wondered what he would say. Her face once again seemed to light up at the mention of seeing the rest of the castle. "Oh, definitely!" she answered, perhaps a bit too enthusiastically. She and Cass had just been talking about this - it seemed perfect! The next moment, though, she quickly looked over at Cassanora. "Of course, only if you want to as well," she added, offering a slightly chagrined smile about answering so quickly.

"I'm Madeleine, and this is Cassanora," she introduced, her eyes turning back to the Durmstrang boy. She got a better look at him now that they were conversing. He seemed older - poised and pleasant-looking. Her eyes traveled to the other Durmstrang boy, who had taken a seat after talking to the Hogwarts girl. He was tanner and gave off the sort of vibe that he enjoyed physical challenges and sports and the like. This thought only came from the way his arms seemed to naturally flex just while he was sitting there.

"Are you leading the tour?" Mads asked, her eyes landing on the Hogwarts girl who was standing behind him. Was that what they had been talking about? Getting her to show them around?

Carolyn was getting a bit overwhelmed. This was not unusual feeling for her though. On the outside the witch appeared perfectly calm and carried herself elegantly, like a dancer she was, but the fact remained that she wasn't particularly fond of crowds. Still, this was a unique opportunity and so as usual, her curiosity won over her personal comfort. She did bring her furry friend and her art supplies for support however, so all in all, the situation was manageable. Said feline was of course sitting on her lap playing with the long strands of her black hair. "Mordred, leave it. How many times have I told you this is not a toy?" The girl muttered under her nose. She was trying to sketch her surroundings and he was being incredibly distracting. She adored the cat but he could be a little bit of a douche sometimes. Very cute little douche...

Carolyn's creation so far was a mere sketch as she didn't feel a need to hurry. She was observing the people in the room while munching on her dried squid. Probably not a snack most of her classmates would appreciate but she was rather fond of the taste and the chewy texture. Her father always told her it was best paired with some alcohol but she would have to wait a bit longer to confirm that theory. As far as she knew Korean, Japanese and Thai people enjoyed eating dried squid quite often and to her surprise, Russians were on the list as well. Speaking of Russians... She heard a group nearby speaking that very language. They seemed to be having fun, making her pause and smile at the sight. Soon however, the boys separated and one of them was obviously searching for a place to sit. It was only then, that she realized how much space she was taking with the papers scattered all around her. Carolyn hastily sorted them in a neat pile in case somebody wanted to sit at the Ravenclaw table. There was still plenty space on her right side.

I should probably change the clothing a little. The witch mused as she turned back and inspected her creation. She intended to send it to her grandma who had no idea about the wizarding world. The ghosts and fancy uniforms wouldn't sit well with the woman for sure. She was so lost in her art that she didn't even notice Mordred refocusing on a different target. Her raven coloured hair long forgotten, the feline instead seemed to take interest in the boy sitting next to them. On her left. He was quiet so far so Carolyn didn't really notice him until Mordred hissed at the boy somewhat viciously. Thankfully, while she was still working on his social skills, she already managed to teach him any physical harm was out of question. Still, it was not okay to scare people like that. "Mordred," she reprimand her furry friend before turning to the blonde stranger. "Sorry," she added awkwardly not really knowing what else to say. She was a bit unsure of herself since there was no way to know if he even understood her. While some of the visitors had absolutely no problem speaking English some, she knew from previous experience, struggled a lot. This one also looked quite young, younger than her perhaps...

As already suspected, Nate was not disappointed and Irina agreed to the plan. He nodded at her with a smile and looked around the hall again. He was very hungry by now and wondered when they would eat and especially where it would come from. It was almost as if someone had been able to read his mind, because all of a sudden a lot of fantastic looking food appeared on the long table. Confused, Nate looked around while the other students began to fill their plates. He was used to magic but every now and then he was surprised. He also began to scoop his plate full, "After dinner." He confirmed again towards Irina and shoved the first bite into his mouth.

The hustle and bustle had calmed down a bit in the meantime but the conversations started again when the first hunger was satisfied and so Nate started talking again. "So, how about you? What would you like to see?" he now asked his friend as he took a sip of pumpkin juice, still not sure if he liked the taste or not. He thought about her words again - adventure - that's what he was looking for and he was excited to see what adventures he would come across here at Hogwarts.

After Nate had satisfied his hunger, he became more restless, he wanted to leave immediately. His knee began to bounce nervously without him noticing and his gaze darted around the hall. He didn't want to be the first to stand up and hoped that some students would do it before him soon. But it looked like he would have to be patient and he turned his gaze back to his plate and poked at his food with his fork without taking another bite.

His thoughts revolved around the next few days, Quidditch, the people he would meet here, the secrets he would or would not learn about Hogwarts and the upcoming ball. This trip was more than exciting and he was looking forward to what was in store for him.

"Uhm -" Lucietta felt quite awkward, if not already, about to offer to go get some food or something random just to take a second to breathe and figure out what the heck to do. This much talking made her realize just how mute she could be, if not prompted to talk; after all, her whole entire life basically composed of shutting up and obeying. She was brought back to the present after that short moment of nostalgia by the white-haired boy's response, and immediately confused. Werner Durmstrang? Isn't that school named Durmstrang? Also, what kind of name was that? Her confusion was short-lived, though, because she realized his intention not too long after. "It's nice to meet you, Werner," she said, with a genuine smile. "I'm Lucietta Mahler."

"Oh... uh... sure, of course," Lucietta responded, not wanting to seem unappreciative or cold. She shifted uncomfortably on one foot, before realizing that he'd already taken off, prompting her to follow him. Lucietta ran to catch up. "Hi there," she said to the group with a shy smile, switching to English. "It's nice to meet you all... I'm Lucietta," she said, as introduction, sitting down in the seat next to Werner's, trying to sound friendly. She felt obliged to talk to them, to introduce herself now, and to make sure they liked her. Lucietta had never really meant anyone who really disliked her, in a way. Sure, there were people who had automatically assumed things about her, but Lucietta had never returned such feelings or opinions. She was certain that everyone could change, mean or not, and she was determined to not let that mindset change just yet.

She didn't intend to escalate the situation, only to be rid of Mel, because who would want to remain after realizing that Rhea was in a terrible mood? Certainly no reasonable person. But Mel, it appeared, was not going to back down so easily. On the contrary, she stood taller, and raised her voice. Rage was clear in her expression. And as she got angrier, Rhea felt herself calming down. It was easiest to contrast the other person's disposition than it was to match it, which was often inconvenient, but generally useful.

"You think that because this is your school, your house table, you get to decide who sits here?"

Hm. Predictable outrage. Boring. Rhea leaned forward on the table, chin propped up on her palm, eyebrows raised.

"Well, news-flash, you do not own this table. This is an inter-school event, and last I heard we were all welcome here."

Technically Mel wasn't wrong. They were all allowed to be there, invited, even, but couldn't expect to be welcomed by all. Especially not Rhea, who was craving pumpkin pasties.

You think it's not my place to audaciously try and sit here? Well, it's not your place to turn up your abnormally pointed nose at any 'peasant' who comes within a twenty-foot radius of your highness."

Oh, and treacle tart, and lots of pudding. But that was dessert, and before getting her hopes up it it was reasonable to consider supper first. Stew ─ lamb stew ─ and mashed potatoes, then.

"And you're probably a blood-purist, too."

Okay, that one Rhea was not expecting. A blood-purist? Where on earth had this idiotic American gotten that idea? So far she had done nothing to imply such opinions, and it was ridiculous that Mel had simply made that up in order to have something genuine to defend herself against.

"Yes," said Rhea. "I am a blood-purist. Why? Could you smell it?"

She would wait for a response, before sitting back down and beginning to pick at her nails. "You're a prideful, brainless fool, and I cannot believe your desperation to become the victim. And for the record, I am a half-blood myself, if that helps to ease your anger. You attention-seeking moron. I feel myself getting dumber the longer you stand here."
Rhea looked up again, regarding Mel, who looked thunderstruck. "What? Cat got your tongue?"

[font=Times New Roman]The arrival of the new students at Hogwarts was causing quite the uproar. To be honest, Anja would have been perfectly happy to simply take a sandwich and go back to the dormitory, but that didn't seem like it would be possible. So she stuck around for the food, and by the time she had finished the small helping of food she'd taken, she was in a better mood. She knew that Nate had arrived by now, but she wondered where in the crowded throng he sat. The Great Hall was more packed than usual, filled with three other schools, and locating someone she knew only by name (and at a stretch, personality) would be near impossible.

Deciding to give up looking simply at the tables, Anja decided that she would just go past the Koldovstoretz table on her way out. She looked back down at the food on the table — there were still quite a few cantaloupe melon slices left over, so she took her cotton napkin and wrapped one up for Rusalka. Her cat a taste for the finer things in life. Standing up from the Slytherin table, she tucked the wrapped slice of melon into her pocket. She brushed down her robes and patted her pocket down so the slice wasn't so obvious. She walked down the back of the table, past a few snarks which were happening and up to the the Koldovstoretz table.

The students who sat there seemed happy enough, and they were all eating quite well. Anja scanned the table once more, and saw one boy, probably the same age as her, with dark hair. He was sitting with another girl, blonde, but he wasn't really eating. In fact, he looked a little sick, bouncing his leg and looking around. Anja made a beeline for him, intending to ask him about a certain Nate Smirnow. The nervous ones were always the most likely to tell the truth.

She cleared her throat lightly, standing a little straighter and tilting her head down only a little. "Excuse me," she said. "I hope I'm not interrupting your conversation, but you wouldn't know a Nate Smirnow, would you? Only, I need to talk to him about something." Her manners were top level today. Maybe she'd even treat herself with one of her tuck box sweets when she got back to Rusalka.

Damn.
Mel hadn't meant to go so incredibly overboard. Maybe her mom was right, and her temper really would be the death of her. It was just that this girl was the Mount Everest of exasperating. Really, who did she think she was? Mel might have gone a bit too far with the blood-purist thing, but the Thunderbird was too stubborn to admit that now, even to herself. She finished her rant, and was about to start up again when the short girl spoke once more in her irritating, nasally voice. She seemed too calm for the situation, but Mel could see the hurricane of anger stirring in her eyes, just below the surface.

"You're a prideful, brainless fool, and I cannot believe your desperation to become the victim. And for the record, I am a half-blood myself, if that helps to ease your anger. You attention-seeking moron. I feel myself getting dumber the longer you stand here."

Mel was dumbfounded. She'd known this girl was a piece of work when she'd first yelled at her that she was not wanted at the table, but she didn't know to the extent that her jerkishness went until now. When Mel didn't speak right away she looked at her pointedly, arrogantly. "What? Cat got your tongue?"

Well, it seemed Shorty was stubborn, too. But moron? Oh no, Mel was not going to stand for this. Sure, she didn't get straight A's in school, but she was far from stupid.

"Desperate to become the victim? I was hardly unprovoked. Let's not forget your lovely little outburst when I tried to simply sit down. I don't think I'm the unstable one here. And 'moron'? Please, are we in fifth grade? You couldn't come up with a better insult? So you're not a blood-purist, Shorty. That doesn't keep you from being a good old-fashioned snob."

Mel stopped, nearly out of breath. That felt good. She looked over at Shorty's face. The girl was still composed, but the corner of her lip twitched angrily and, was Mel imagining it, or was her face just a little paler?
