"Is she pretty?"

"Merlin help me. You need to shut up about Scarlett, Gabe, or I'll poison your pizza," Rose nudged her younger brother and rolled her eyes.

Gabe just smirked. "That means she's pretty."

"As well as way out of your league," the redhead scrunched up her nose at Gabe. He scoffed at her. Scarlett was due to arrive at their house at five-fourty-five, which was only in five or ten minutes. For the past half hour, Rose had been waiting on her bed for Scarlett, and Gabe had decided to come in and lay on her bed, asking her questions about Scarlett. "Are you really that starved for attention?" she teased him. Rose really wasn't mad at him, just the slightest bit annoyed. He was making her laugh, and she couldn't ever complain about that.

"You said she was a Quidditch player," Gabe explained, a little sheepishly.

Rose stood up, deciding she could go wait for Scarlett in the living room. "And that automatically means she's in love with you?"

The blonde boy got up to follow her. "Well- no. But we at least have something in common."

"Let's see," Rose cocked her head, turning around at the bottom of the stairs. "You're both human beings on planet Earth." she paused. "Yeah, that's all I can think of." She turned around and walked over to sit on the couch, hearing Gabe sigh loudly behind her.

He plopped down next to her. "We both love Quidditch!"

"Trust me, Gabey, two people can both love Quidditch and absolutely hate each other. Now, please be quiet."

Her brother opened his mouth up, but with a warning glance from Rose, he took her last words seriously. Good. He knew that Rose could tell Scarlett all kinds of things about him that he wouldn't ever want her to know. It was all in good fun, though. She loved Gabe and they were definitely on good terms. Rose was aware of her mother doing something in the kitchen and her other siblings upstairs doing their own thing.

Scarlett Aden was one of Rose's closest friends in all of Hogwarts. They always had fun together and looked out for each other. She would definitely defend Scarlett, and knew Scarlett would do the same. Scarlett was just such a good person, and Rose always enjoyed her company. That's why Rose had invited Scarlett over for a sleepover. They made plans, and that's why Scarlett was supposed to be getting here any second now and why Gabe was so excited. Maybe Rose shouldn't have mentioned she was a Quidditch player. At least she hadn't mentioned that she was undefeated and a bloody good beater. She had dominated in her last two games, and Rose was very proud of her. Rose had a lot of ideas of things they could do tonight.

This was going to be so fun.

How late could one possibly be to a sleepover?

Scarlett didn't want to find out.

"FIONA, FIONA, FIONA," she yelled, pacing the kitchen of their little home. Well, more like marched. "I'M GOING TO BE LATE-"

"Relax Scarlett," said her aunt, gliding silkily down the steps and into the spotless kitchen. Her new blonde highlights shone under the glow of the hanging lamps, and she was wearing a very nice black velvet coat. It smelled like her trademark lavender scent. Though Fiona wasn't as posh as her parents were, it didn't mean she couldn't dress smart. If it weren't for her Auror career, Scarlett's aunt could've made it big in the fashion industry, and Scarlett wasn't even kidding when she claimed she would buy Fiona's hypothetical clothing line. "There's a thing in this world called Apparition, you know?"

"I do know," stressed Scarlett, fussing with the sleeves of her own coat, which was a very neutral and neat-looking tone. "But what if one of us gets splinched? Or - I don't know - a rogue elephant crashes into us at Rose's place, just at the door? Or a circus act goes into town and sets Rose's house on fire? Or-"

"Scarlett," said Fiona, taking her by the shoulders. Scarlett squirmed but Fiona's grip was iron hard. Her eyes were deadly serious. "I think you can handle a rogue elephant, can't you?"

She burst out laughing, and Scarlett bit her lip to stop herself before she joined in with Fiona's laughter as well. "You're right!" cackled Scarlett. Her confidence and energy had been restored in a simple second, just by her aunt. "Anyway, let's go before we bump into a circus act that sets Rose's house on fire." Scarlett grabbed Fiona's hand and the two of them Apparated away.
Scarlett waved at the doorstep of Rose's house as Fiona apparated away. She had a backpack of all the sleepover essentials - her sleeping bag, a pillow, a massive box of snacks including marshmallows, chocolates and crackers (basically s'mores) as well as a torch and slippers for late night wanderings and a toothbrush and toothpaste and her favourite Weird Sisters tee and jeans and pajamas with little flamingos partying on them.

She rapped on the door to announce her arrival. She was tempted to call out but didn't really want to piss off the neighbours. Said neighbours could be a circus act after all, and a loud, impetuous red-head could very well be the reason they decided to accidentally commit some arson.

But then again, the longer she stood out here, the longer an elephant could fall on her.

She knocked again and hoped she wasn't being too annoying.

Rose thought she heard a couple of pops outside. It couldn't be Scarlett, could it?

You see, there was late. Most "lates" fell into this category. Just when you're a little bit late, five or ten minutes, and on accident. And then there was fashionably late. A purposeful lateness. It was the kind of late that was intentional. It made everyone look your way, since they were already there. Finally, there was Scarlett Late. Exclusive to Scarlett Aden of Gryffindor House, Scarlett was most usually very late, but not too late to miss important things. But usually very late.

This is why it surprised Rose that Scarlett was on time. She jumped a little at the knock on the door. She would have thought that it was the pizza, but the pizza had already arrived- her mother was just making sure that it was cut well enough for them to take their own pieces. Rose stood up, with a glance at her mother, who had looked up in unison with her. Another knock sounded on the door from an apparently impatient Scarlett. She walked over to the door, opening it up.

"Scarlett!" Rose couldn't help but grin at the sight of her fellow redheaded friend. "It's so good to see you, come in," she said, backing up to give her room to walk inside. The second person she would be greeted with was Rose's mother, Pearl.

Scarlett would soon notice that all of Rose's family didn't seem to share the same hair color genes as her, including her mother. But if she looked close enough, she would see that they shared other features- their facial angles, the colors of their eyes. With a warm and welcoming smile at Scarlett that was similar in Rose, she said, "Hi, Scarlett! I'm Rose's mother. Please make yourself at home. Did you get dropped off?"

The Gryffindor let her friend have enough time to reply to Pearl, but then moved on. "Alright," Rose said, "So we were thinking that we could watch pizza and eat the Lion King." She furrowed her brow. That didn't seem right. "Oh! Sorry," she laughed a little. They definitely didn't want to eat the Lion King, and watching pizza would be either very boring or torturous. "I mean- eat pizza and watch the Lion King. The Disney movie. It's time for you to be educated about the lion that you share a name with, Scar." She smirked a little, knowing that the Beater couldn't hex her like she had threatened, unless she had happened to learn Wandless Magic in the time that Rose hadn't seen her. "Would that be alright with you?" Scarlett was, after all, their guest, and Rose didn't want to be pushy.

"How have you been?" she asked.

Thankfully, everything went to plan. The door opened and Scarlett was greeted with the face of Rose Moon. She hadn't seen her friend - dare she say bestie - for a few days. Those few days felt like years as she waited in anticipation for the sleepover. The only cure for her impatience was to distract herself with odd bits of pranking alongside the Troop, who she also missed dearly. Anyway, it was definitely important to spend time with the Troop, seeing as they were the ones she didn't see for most of the year, but it didn't mean Scarlett still didn't occasionally miss Rose and her other Hogwarts friends.

"Hi, hi, hi, hello," said Scarlett with a massive grin. This was her first sleepover outside of her small hometown, and she could feel the familiar waves of excitement punctuating her speech. "Good to see you too! I take my shoes off here right?" She then enveloped Rose in a hug, before wriggling off her Converse to reveal her probably copyrighted Pringles Sour Cream and Onion socks. Sour Cream and Onion was her favourite, needless to say. She elected to keep them on for the purpose of sliding on the floor and pretending to be an ice-skater, if Rose or her siblings wanted to try and do a recreation of Dancing On Ice. Otherwise, her socks just provided some novelty.

Rose's mum greeted her next, with a warm smile like Rose's. Though the Moon family didn't necessarily look all the same - Rose stood out quite a bit with her wavy red hair, in contrast to the rest of her family's blonde styles - they seemed to share other features that Scarlett couldn't quite name, that made them look like a family. Scarlett then recalled that the Moon family would be the Moon-Knight family, or the Knight-Moon family quite soon, in the summer. According to Henry, his father and Rose's mum were getting married in July! Scarlett didn't know what to feel about some of her closest friends becoming closer with each other than they were with her, but she supposed she was happy for the uniting families. Unless Rose and Henry weren't happy with it, in which case Scarlett would be unhappy as well.

But upcoming marriages aside, Scarlett didn't want to make the wrong impression on Pearl Moon. A lot of adults did not like her in the slightest, and Scarlett was completely fine with that, because they were all stuck up or rude or cold or downright terrible parents. But Rose's mum just radiated a sort of compassionate energy, that implied she loved her children and cared for them deeply, as much as she could. Scarlett was rather unfamiliar with such openly nice adults, so she wanted to start off on the right foot with them.

"Hi!" she said with a smile at Rose's mum. "And, er, thank you for having me~" She looked around, not in wonder because that would be totally embarrassing, but rather, in appreciation. "Your house is really nice. Loving the homely atmosphere. And, um, yes, I did get dropped off by my aunt. She'll collect me tomorrow at around eleven, I think? In the morning, of course."

Then Rose took the lead, detailing her itinerary for the evening. While Scarlett was one to go with the flow, seeing where the night took her and all of that stuff, she also didn't mind having an actual plan for once. She clapped her hands in excitement. "Watch pizza? Is that a Muggle show or something? And isn't the Lion King from that Disney thing you told me about? Why would we eat it?" Slightly confusing, but hey, Muggles had many things with the same name. Then Rose corrected herself and things made a bit more sense. "Ohh okay," said Scarlett, stifling a laugh. "Though I'm still up for watching pizza if you don't want to eat it. And I am ready for this! I finally get to meet my - was he evil? - alter-ego!"

Scarlett bounced on her toes. She had heard so much about the Lion King and how Scar, the obligatory evil guy, was the usurper of the throne of the savannah or something. It sounded exciting. She had always wanted to try and usurp a throne. "Yeah it's all perfect," said Scarlett, adding on offhandedly, "Meh, it's been normal. Uh, nothing particularly interesting, because holidaying isn't really something I do. How about you?"

"Now." After giving Rose a bit of time to fill Scarlett in about her Easter so far, Scarlett turned to her plethora of siblings. Four! Four siblings! Scarlett didn't even have one, though technically the Troop were her honorary siblings. "Hello strangers, siblings of Rose. Any of you guys willing to tell me your identities?"

Rose was enveloped in a hug, and she smiled, hugging the girl back. She hadn't entirely expected that, but hey, this was Scarlett after all. "Uh- sure!" Rose didn't really care where Scarlett put her shoes, to be honest. "I like your socks," she said, with a small smile. Scarlett's eccentric Pringles socks had made Rose smile. Green wasn't entirely Scarlett's color, but if Scarlett liked them, then Rose had nothing against them. She smiled.

Pringles were a rare treat in Rose's house. Her mother bought a lot of off-brand things, and rarely ever got name brand things. So if Rose and her siblings ever had Pringles, they probably weren't actual Pringles, just a Pringles knock off. It was annoying sometimes, but at least it helped their mom save money.

It was kind of fun watching Scarlett trying to be polite to Rose's mother, greeting her and responding with a polite response. "Oh, thanks! I do try my best to keep it clean and comfy," Pearl would say in response to Scarlett.

It was clean and comfy, but it wasn't as cool as some houses. It wasn't big and it didn't have a whole lot of electronics or anything. Rose felt a pang of guilt thinking that and, remembering about her fight with her mother. Remembering how she had told her mother that even though she was trying her best, her best wasn't good enough. She regretted saying that now. Or maybe she didn't. Rose didn't really know anymore. She hated herself for being jealous of others and all the stuff they had. She hated herself for wanting name brand food and clothes like others. But she just longed for the life that everybody else seemed so comfortable in. A life where she didn't have to worry about money, or how much electricity and water she used, or if she was taking up more than her fair share of space in the family. Rose shook her head, trying to clear it. Her thoughts had gone off much longer than she had meant for them to.

"That sounds great," Pearl replied, nodding and probably making a note inside her head about when Scarlett was going to be picked up.

Rose nodded. "He was pretty evil. Don't want to spoil anything, but he is the bad guy."

"Okay,"
Rose said, in response to Scarlett's answer. "I've been good. We went down to London once, but other than that we haven't done very much."

Scarlett turned to the living room, and Rose jumped, noticing her siblings were there. Normally, there was no way that they could sneak up on her, especially not together, but maybe while she was thinking about her mother, they had caught her off guard. Rose had always been able to do that, sneak up behind her siblings and startle them. When she did, intentional or unintentional, they called her a little mouse. But lately, they had been trying to do the same to her. This was the first time it had worked.

Scarlett gave them an invitation to introduce themselves (or, as she put it, reveal their identities), and Rose inwardly prayed that they would not be ridiculous about it. Of course, it would have taken Rose all of ten seconds to introduce her siblings, but she hadn't really been asked. Scarlett had asked her siblings.

Faith, the oldest and, for now, the tallest, spoke up, saying, "I'm Faith. I'm a fourth year."

Franklin tugged on the collar of his polo shirt, straightening it out. "I am Sir Franklin James Moon, and I-"

"He's a third year," Gabriel interrupted, earning a glare from his brother. "I'm Gabe, a first year. And by the way, I'm really cool and I like Quidditch too and-"

"Shut up, Gabriel," Frankie said roughly.

All it took was a warning glance from Rose's mother for Frankie to bite his tongue.

Jessica crossed her arms. She was the smallest and the youngest. "And you of course just had to introduce yourselves by years in Hogwarts," she said, annoyed. As if they were expected to accommodate her in their introductions. She received a look from Gabe that said "deal with it." Huffing, she continued. "I'm Jessie. I'm about to turn eleven."

Okay, minimal ridiculousness. Rose would have asked for more order and less interrupting, as well as less trying to make yourself memorable, but she couldn't always control her siblings.

After a beat of silence, Jessica added, "Can we have pizza now?"

Pearl smiled and nodded, stepping back from the pizza. There was a cheese pizza and a pepperoni pizza, each in eight slices, making sixteen slices for six kids. Rose didn't know whether or not her mother wanted to have pizza. Sometimes she would rather eat salad, since she was an adult and was pressured to make good choices and stuff. They moved forward, getting into a line and getting a paper plate, piling a couple of slices onto their plates. Once they all had pizza, the seven of them got onto the couch. Pearl let Frankie set up the movie, since she was not the most tech-savy person and did not have a lot of practice with DVDs.

The movie was an hour and a half long, and they watched the original, as it was the experience Rose wanted Scarlett to have. At almost every song, Rose's siblings decided they were going to sing it. The one exception to this was "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" in which Frankie and Gabe tried to hide and Rose's sisters swayed, singing loudly to annoy their brothers.

Rose found herself a little bit anxious about what Scarlett would think about the movie, but she tried not to think about it. Scarlett was flexible, right?

When the movie ended and the credits started to roll, Rose turned to her friend. "What did you think?"
