Why were pillows always white?

In the rush of in-between-classes, Everly would find herself thinking about that. Not just thinking, but pondering, and when that happened, Everly really really wanted to know such an answer. And when she wanted to know an answer, she became distracted. So overall, she just had to know.

Being shoved in the ribs would take Everly's mind briefly off the aforementioned captivating question, proving to Everly that she had to pay attention if she were to continue pondering such questions in the future.

Sighing heavily, Everly would heave herself and her bag, closing her eyes for a second to remind herself where to go. The Charms classroom was two more floors away, which meant Everly had to climb two more stories. Checking the nearest clock, Everly would come to the conclusion that she was late. Not yet, but she would be, judging by how long it would take to get there, if Everly were to continue at her usual speed - which is to say, moderate (at least, that's what she thinks). Everly had to pick up her pace.

And that was what Everly was distracted by - thinking about pillows as she climbed the stairs to Charms class on Thursday afternoon.

kit was a little… preoccupied. to say the least.

his morning started as they normally did, rushing to classes, dodging unsuspecting students, and narrowly missing almost all of his classes. it wasn’t more of a matter of busy schedule, as it was poor time management. it wasn’t his fault his classes weren’t as high-profile as his reading but that was besides the point. days prior, he somehow found himself in the company of three perfectly round and beady-eyed rats. imagine kit’s astonishment in finding such a carefully wrapped gift just for himself, of course, in the shape of a trio of rats. this was very much against the rules, he knew that, but he didn’t really care (moreso breaking the rules than having the rats in the first place). it wasn’t against the rules if nobody knew.

well, then he found himself in this predicament. rats, while incredibly cute and adorably small, were roguish little creatures. the small ones were always the hardest to manage, especially three of them. in the midst of the happiness of new little friends, it was quite possibly that kit had forgotten this fact. kit wouldn’t say he was irresponsible per se, but perhaps at some point in his walk to his next class, they might have slipped from his bag. which might have led to him to where he was now, rummaging through the corridors in a manner that wasn’t at all suspicious to onlookers.

he found himself sweating again. ah, if he didn’t find them soon, he’d have detention for the rats and for being late to class. no, he’d be fine. no no, he’d be fine.

this was where he debated on giving up and accepting his tardiness to his next class, and at the most getting a lecture from that. it would be fine if he let himself forget about the precious rats he’d spent so many memories with. leaving them alone and letting someone else find them, a person who had the possibility of being a rat hater and could possibly do horrible things to them. kit groaned, nervously checking the clock again, shuffling in his feet as the gears rumbled in his head. that’s it, he thought, finally. he couldn’t abandon them, even if they had abandoned him!

with a newfound determination, he set off to find his rats. too caught up in his own rush of adrenaline, he bumped into another student, who had also seemed to be worrying about their tardiness to their next class. they both tumbled to the ground.

“ah, i’m sorry. for bumping into you, i mean.” he cringed, holding up his hands defensively, eying the fallen student to see if he accidentally hurt her. his eyes seemed to roam from hers though, trying to scout for a tail or fur patch from the corner of his eye. “uh, i didn’t… mean… to,” he mumbled, distracted. “i’m on a bit of a quest at the moment.”
