Emilia sat at the table waiting for supper to be done when she heard a voice ask, 'Haven't made any friends yet?' Emilia shook her head as a small plastic bag slide across the table towards her, she gently pulled one out and cleaned herself up before tossing the bag back to the girl. 'Thanks I really needed that, and no I haven't made any friends. I'm not the best at approaching people, but I do usually try. It's just I have been so nervous and no one has even looked my way so far so I don't really know who to approach.' Emilia smiled as she felt a weight lift off her chest after she told someone how she was really feeling, she realized that she hadn't even introduced herself so she said, 'sorry about not introducing myself I'm Emilia Lynch.' Emilia stuck her left hand out for the girl to shake, while nervously playing with her amulet with her right hand. Emilia thought about her first day and realized that maybe she could have made a better effort with making friends but she silently vowed to try harder the next day. Emilia hoped that this girl that she was talking to could maybe be a new friend, but she tried not to get her hopes up.

What may have come off as surprising to the dhampir, the girl accepted her tissue offer with kindness and gratitude. The redhead blinked her eyes slightly, flustered yet trying to not let it be visible too much. Kindness and gratitude. It struck her in a strange way. 'It's.. no problem. You can keep the rest.' With a gentle tap of her fingers, the tissue bag slid elegantly to the edge of the First years side of the table.

Chewing on another bit of chicken, Nico observed the girl. Back in her first year at this school, the dhampir would've reassured the child with many heartwarming words and maybe even a hug of some sort. Yet already two years have passed and those years have changed something inside of her. Her tender and happy side rarely showed up these days... weeks... months...

Either way, it seemed that her small gesture of kindness, offering an ear that would listen, was enough for the younger Slytherin to settle down. Nico envied her. How quick she was, to put her mind past a feeling of sadness.

'Don't worry. My first days at this school weren't the greatest either...' And not only the first few...Flashing the first year a slight yet sad smile, her fork poked another bit of chicken between her teeth. The troubled girl continued to introduce herself as Emilia Lynch. 'That's a nice name. I'm Nico. Nico Shymane. I'm a Prefect of Slytherin...' To Emilia, Nico probably didn't seem very approachable. Distant and cold as her features were beautiful yet there was something fearful about it.

'And that means that... If there's any problem. You can rely on me.' Not a smile. Just a serious look in her eyes as she took a sip of her cup of juice. 'And if I scare you... you can always look for my colleagues.' There was no way that this girl knew of her being a dhampir. Of being different. The only tells that there was something kinda off, was her porcelain white complexion. With the white foundation she had dapped on her face, no veins were visible.

Emilia smiled gratefully as the girl told her that she could keep it "Thank you. Just so you know I'm not usually this emotional, today was just an off day and I want to thank you because you have made me feel so much better"

Emilia grabbed the packet off of the table and slide it into a hidden pocket in her robe, before analyzing the girl in front of her. From what she could tell the girl seemed nice enough, but it was clear that she was different than the others, her skin seemed very pasty white, but that could be family genes.

Emilia realized that she was staring at the girl and she looked away, hoping that she didn't notice "so Nico what's it like being a Prefect, was it hard getting to where your at now, or did it come easily for you?" Emilia was very curious at what it took to become a Prefect, she strived to be one, hopefully by her third or fourth year, but she wasn't to sure. Emilia realized that she would have to stand out from the rest and that would be very hard, because she enjoyed blending in with everyone, so that she didn't get picked on.

Emilia thought about what Nico had said about Nico scaring her, but she couldn't figure out why she would be afraid of Nico "Nico if you don't mind me asking, why would I be afraid of you, you seem kind maybe not the most approachable but kind none the less? "

Emilia reassured her that she wasn't usually in this kind of mood. There was no need to explain that. Nico knew what it was like to have these moodswings. What they could do to you... As she thanked the redhead, the dhampir felt slightly warm, a smile curling on her lips. A smile that resembled that same smile she once carried so effortlessly in her First Year. For some reason, gratefulness did tickle her bone in a way. Those small gestures made her feel a little more at ease. But she had to be careful to not get careless. She didn't want to endure the consequences of that once again. 'Don't mention it...'

If she had catlike ears, they'd surely perk up now. Being asked how it was to be a Prefect... Taking a long sip of her cup, Nico cleared her throat before letting her eyes glance at the wooden table and occasionally at the silverwear. 'Being a Prefect. That's a good question.' Her thin fingers gently curled around her cup, not trying to look nervous. Did she have to lie or be honest? Would it be harmful or... would she like to be kind and welcoming?

'At first, I wasn't really sure if I was cut out for it... See, I started here all alone. Just like alot of First Years. I had a rough time to trust others since my... experiences in non-magical schools weren't great.' Her index finger lightly tapped against the tin texture of her drink. 'The first one to show me some kindness was a Gryffindor actually. He kind of showed me around and as he was a Prefect, I got curious to have a go at it.' A soft smile appeared on her face as seemingly some colour returned to her face. 'I've been one ever since. He.. sadly left out of the blue. Not sure where he went. But...' And just as quick, the smile and colour had faded. Like snow infront of the sun. 'It's not an easy job. Don't underestimate it.'

She looked more and more grim as she talked about it. 'All I can say is that you can try your shot and see what happens. Don't be a troublemaker though...' Her eyes stared at the girl, as if making sure to watch her every move. It might've been a warning or just some spiteful advice. The dhampir wasn't so sure herself.

Straightening her back once more, Nico let go of her cup, gently putting it aside as Emilia had gotten curious to why she'd even have to be afraid of her. There were a few reasons that she'd maybe have to steer clear from her. Yet, the Slytherin Prefect wanted to give the girl a chance. Telling her that she's a dhampir however was still a step too far. 'Oh. I was just being silly. Don't worry about it.' A soft smile resting on her face once more.

Alexander was just calmly sitting at the bench in the great hall, just casually watching proceedings. Eating none of the marvelous food presented at the table, and instead eating what seemed to be a muggle cereal bar. Whilst eating he turned in the direction of one of the residents prefects of Slytherin. Who seemed to be talking to one of the new Slytherins, a brown-haired girl. He faintly recalled the hat sayin her name. One Emilia Flinch ? In any case, it was somewhat interesting. Especially as the girl seemed to have a good natural Slytherin curiosity. Talking about why ‘she should be afraid of Nico’ and Nico then denying it.

He could not help but interject, it was just too good an opportunity. Even if staying silent might be for the best. As such both girls would notice a slightly sarcastic voice speaking close to them. “Oh she is very nice. As long as your name isn’t Opeila Seilun. In that case she isn’t very nice and she can be quite vicious when she gets angry.” He was then tempted to take a swig from one of the glasses of water, but he resisted the instinct. Instead he casually sat in the chair and gave a small smile to both of the girls. Then he realized that he had missed the common courtesy of introducing himself. “Ah, excuse me, I just realized I hadn’t introduced myself yet. My name is Alexander, if you ever need advice on how to survive the coming seven years. You can probably find me in the common room.” His smile then grew wider. Though it was not entirely clear if the smile came from a good natured joke, or if it there was perhaps something else behind it.

Memory is all we are. Moments and feelings, captured in amber, strung on filaments of reason. Take a man’s memories and you take all of him. Chip away a memory at a time and you destroy him as surely as if you hammered nail after nail through his skull

Emilia sat at the Slytherin table taking in everything that Nico had told her, trying to figure out the other meaning behind Nico's words. Emilia was sure that Nico was not telling her something and Emilia's curiosity was dying trying to figure out what it was, but for the life of her Emilia could not figure it out.

Emilia decided to leave it alone for now, but she would keep trying to figure it out. Emilia then heard a slightly sarcastic voice, not to far from her speak up, "Oh she is very nice. As long as your name isn’t Opeila Seilun. In that case she isn’t very nice and she can be quite vicious when she gets angry." Emilia was very confused now, who was this new person talking?, what was he talking about? Who was Opeila Seilun? The questions swarmed around Emilia's head and she was dying to know the answers, but she decided that it was not her place to question Nico, so instead Emilia filed the information away, for a different time, when she would have her questions answered.

The boy then seemed to realize that he never introduced himself to the girls and he quickly rectified that "Ah, excuse me, I just realized I hadn’t introduced myself yet. My name is Alexander, if you ever need advice on how to survive the coming seven years. You can probably find me in the common room.

Emilia was not sure what to think of Alexander. The first time he spoke to her was confusing to say the least, and what right did he have to say things about Nico. Emilia didn't really want to push him away, but she didn't trust him. Emilia softly sighed and coolly said, "Hello Alexander I am Emilia Lynch. Thank you for the offer, I will make sure to keep it in mind."

Emilia seemed to be satisfied with the redheads answer. Nico was so close to changing the topic to something else but before she knew it, someone decided their interference would be funny. Ofcourse, he had to mention something she had desperately tried to steer clear from.

Slamming the bottom of her cup on the table, Nico closed her eyes. He could've just walked up to them and talked about anything. Litteraly anything. The sound of the cup echoed over the table as she didn't move for a moment. Did he even know what actually happened? Most of her peers didn't seem to care about her side of whatever went down. Not that it mattered. Not anymore.

In case she managed to startle them, the dhampir slowely turned towards Alexander, stone cold. If looks could kill, this was one of those. 'Mister Varellion. Haven't seen you in a while. Feel free to join us, will you.' A gentle smile on her face before she started to refill her cup. 'In short, as he already said, it is true that... certain things can awaken something within me. But that's the same with everyone. It doesn't make me special...'

A big sip of her cup, Nico pushed her hair out of her eyes. As she finished every last drop, she sighed deeply. Her iceblue eyes resting once more onto Emilias. 'All I'm saying is, you can trust me. With anything. It is my job to look after the lost ones after all. Or something like that...' Her gaze dropping into her now empty cup.

Juniper moved to join the Slytherin table as if in a dream, dark eyes wide and footsteps slow. She was still thinking about the sorting hat's odd comment about her father - it was a mistake, right? Yes. It had to be - unless her father had secretly gone to Hogwarts as well, which she sincerely doubted. Juniper slid into a seat, shaking her head in an attempt to shake the confusing thoughts from her mind. The buzz of excitement was beginning to fade now, and she began to feel tired. When was dinner going to be over? She needed to be alone with her thoughts and go to sleep.

Even when the food appeared, Juniper showed no signs of hunger. The last time she ate was hours ago, on the train, but as she stared at her plate, all she felt was loneliness, crashing over her like a giant wave once again. She was overwhelmed by all this magic and all the people. I should have stayed in London, the first year thought for the second time that evening. She swallowed the sudden lump in her throat and blinked back the tears that had suddenly sprung into her eyes. Hogwarts was just too unfamiliar, too strange, too odd for her. I want to go home.

Juniper wondered if anyone else was feeling the same way. Surely she wasn't the only one who missed her family, was she? Or was she just being overdramatic and weird? She swallowed again and looked up at the candles, focusing her eyes on the light in an attempt to hold back the tears. I will not cry. I will not cry. I will not cry. Too proud to cry in front of everyone, Juniper sat at the table alone, stiff and silent, staring straight ahead without seeing anything.

Those cunning folk use any means
to achieve their end...

Slytherin!

After the Headmaster took the hat off her head, he pointed to the Slytherin table. The words were ringing in her ears like a song, a limerick almost, as she got off the stool and walked slowly and deliberately, exiting the stage in a bit of a daze.

There they were, a long table full of students wearing green scarves and robes. She felt like she had just been knighted, or inducted. All these people were strangers, and yet, it was as if they were all looking at her, welcoming her, saying "what will you do now that you're here?"

Of course they weren't, really. The other students were either chatting, staring hungrily at empty plates, or focusing on the next student, already sitting down to put on the hat.

Nora sighed, realizing now she had to find somewhere to sit. Then, a familiar face pulled her out of her reverie.

In any other situation, Nora might hide, considering that she mortifyingly embarassed herself in front of this girl on the train. But Nora felt weirdly relieved to see a familiar face, and she also noticed something odd.

The girl from the train wasn't smiling. In fact, Nora knew that staring-into-the-void expression quite well. She'd been so cheerful during that brief moment when they met--Nora wondered if her behavior caused the change in mood. Typically if someone goes running out of a room that you just entered, it's reasonable to feel offended.

Then Nora realized she couldn't remember her name. She cursed under her breath. The girl had kindly introduced herself just as Nora was leaving, and Nora heard the name loud and clear but then... she ran away and... it was all a bit of a blur.

Another student in that same compartment had repeated the name "Jupiter." No, that wasn't right. She remembered thinking that was incorrect.

"Ju... um... Ju..." Nora sat down next to the girl. There was an awkward moment when she just stared, then said, "Hi, I'm sorry I ran off earlier."

I can edit this a little if we decide to do more on the train ^.^

I was not meant to be this way, to live this way, to fail so darkly

Lilith walks to the Slytherin table happily and sits down. She starts to put food onto her plate, when she was done she pulled a History of Magic book out of het bag and began to read as she ate her breakfast.

As time went by she kept reading, not realizing her plate was empty. When she went to take a bite she looked at her plate to see it empty, she marked her spot and got some more food. When she filled her plate she continued to on to Chapter five of her book.

As more time went by she was done eating, and she focused on her book. When she reached the end of the book she closed it and put it back in her bag, she then looked around the great hall to see it was packed with students. Lilith then turns to her right to talk to a person next to her, when they got up and left. Lilith sighs and looks around again when someone new sits down beside her, Lilith turns to them and said "hi how are you, I'm Lilith Mason who are you"?

Before the Person can answer they were interrupted by someone else.
