@Dmitri Jones
It was at that point that things changed. Starting to cough, the flames starting to sear his flesh and steal his oxygen, he suddenly saw all white, and felt better. Of course, this was only a very brief respite from the continued blaze, which seemed to crawl back to reclaim what damage had been magically alleiviated. Had someone tried to heal him? Unable to bear the pain any longer, Flash hurriedly extinguished himself with his hands, finally no longer ablaze.

When he was done, he fell to his knees, still coughing, the fringes of his clothing blackened and skin red from the heat. He heard words-- Try again. Looking up deleriously, Flash saw all eyes on Dmitri, no one else had their wand drawn. He had... he had healed Flash, just to torment him further? He had moved on to humiliation, then. He was planning on toying with Flash until others intevened, but by then his point would have been proven. Flash was weak, he was strong. What could he even do, struggle like a twisted up marionette, get others to gang up on him? None of it would matter, regardless of what Flash did, Dmitri would get what he wanted.
Terrible Presence: [d10:10] → success
Effect: Flash auto-fails his action
The wand was still pointed at his face, a provocation that might have meant little to someone else, but to Flash, it refreshed a sickening fear in him that made him feel as insignificant as the ash collecting on the floor. Memories flooded him of another wand, fresh from a kill, hovering in the air deciding whether he would be next. His heart felt like it did in that moment, like it could explode in his chest.

Instead of trying again, Flash was frozen. The tenacity he usually showed in the face of adversity had evaporated. He felt miles away, staring back at Dmitri with a mixture of terror and confusion. How could he be so cruel? Would this make him happy? Flash's trembling hand still held his wand, which had served him diligently despite his own fear wasting its effort. He wouldn't budge though, even when another student stepped in, casting spells at Dmitri.

It finally seemed like the farce of a match was close to over, Dmitri got to demonstrate his wanton aggression and Flash got to take a hit meant for someone else. Everything as it always was.

Henry originally planned to only attend the morning duels which was the time slot for a few of friends. The teen was partly regretting going that morning since he found himself cheering but also feeling sad for one particular Gryffindor aginest Slytherin duel.

One part of him was glad that Slytherin won and he was firstly there to cheer for his co captain and known advice giver, Santario Martin but another part for him felt terrible or his heart break a little at the sight of his close friend; Rose Moon and her partner fall unconscious. That duel didn't last as long as the others but he felt the most emotion to it.

Much like his own that he was still beating himself up over since while his team technically did win, he fell unconscious again leaving his partner alone to face the hufflepuff captain who forfeited. The reason unknown to Henry but it didn't make the boy feel any better, in fact he felt like a failure and question both his abilities and if he really did deserve his spot on the slytherin dueling team.

The second duel Henry would watch would be the gryffindor and hufflepuff one where he would be rooting for hufflepuff. Which the boy felt like he could barely watch when he saw Alexa being forced to go against two gryffindor's when her partner fell unconscious, a part of the boy wanted to rush by her side and help but one he couldn't.

That morning felt like a mixture of emotions and the teen definitely wished he wasn't there but yet he would return to the dueling room in the afternoon, why? Who knows, but he still had his friends and the previous duels on his mind as well as his own. The teen spent a lot of time thinking about his skill and worth, he was finding it harder to find reasons that he deserved to be a Viper.

Henry stayed in the back of the room, watching the few duels play out. Nothing that interesting came about them and he wasn't directly rooting for anyone that time to.

However the shouts of his dueling captain; Dmitri Jones would draw his attention.

Apparently the gryffindor's that were suppose to duel him have forfeited and Dmitri didn't appear happy about the fact. Henry didn't know the fourth year that well besides from dueling practices but he did know that Dmitri was rather a brilliant and if not brutal duelist. It was understandable why someone would forfeit aginest him but what Henry didn't expect was for Flash to call him out.

The teen would eye Flash and would imagine that his dormmate have officially lost it, you have to be crazy to call out Dmitri but yet he did.

And things were just starting.

Another duel soon started on the side and the winner was clear.

Flash missed the disarming charm twice and Henry was started to see why the boy was on the quidditch team rather than the dueling team. Quick thinking and strategy definitely didn't seem to be his string suit especially after Dmitri would cast a incendio duo at him.

A part of the teen did want to extinguish his dormmates flames but another part was sort of afraid of his captain to do so.

For sometime it seemed like Dmitri was going easy on Flash and Henry suspected he should be leaving until he notice a gryffindor cast the levitating charm at the fourth year.

Henry recognized the gryffindor from the morning, he was one of the duelists that was against Alexa and knocked her unconscious.

A part of the boy wanted to send a knockback jinx right to his face but another part knew he shouldn't, that it was wrong and he would get in trouble.

The teen would find himself only a few steps from the exit but unsure what to do, if he left and no one else stepped up then that would leave things two against one. But Dmitri was a excellent duelist and would probably be able to handle himself.

Henry would think about the situation for a while, recognizing that two aginest one was really fair even if Dmitri was a excellent duelist and Flash wasn't looking that good. Henry would also have a chance to prove to himself that he wasn't a failure and belonged on the slytherin team, plus perhaps prove it to his captain as well.

Then there was the chance to jinx the one white knocked Alexa Mackenzie unconscious and that seemed like a reason by its self, Henry was in love with the hufflepuff and even he could see that.

Henry would bite his bottom lip before drawing his wand and running from the back of the room to the three that had there wands drawn with only one target and reason in mind.

The teen would raise his wand at the gryffindor [Lamik Fillestar] and quietly say, never seeing a reason to shout one spells.

"Flipendo."

9<26→miss
The spark of his knockback jinx flew from his wand however the gryffindor managed to dodged it.

Well that didn't go as expect and the teen felt dread raise in him when he watched his spell missed and perhaps his anxiety warning him that was a bad idea and he should have just walked away.

However it was to late for that now and maybe the boy was also motivated to hex at the gryffindor that knocked Alexa unconscious

The unanticipated forfeit was evidently a source of spreading disappointment. Pericles' mounting anticipation had fallen flat, the opportunity to referee and revel in the sport gone unsatiated, though the boy attempted to veil it with grace. In a state of quiet composure, he tried to work his way towards Ruby, evidently intending to exit alongside his friend and fellow prefect. If she was on her way towards the doors, he would be by her side, making soft comments aimed at discerning the "good" of the situation. Dmitri's calls to the crowd in search of another opponent were- he assumed- a baseless method of blowing off steam. He was wrong.

Dmitri instigated Flash with a point of his wand, and Flash obliged him with an attempted Expelliarmus, only to miss and be set on fire in retaliation. A second attempt at disarming also went wide, and in what might have been an act of mercy, or a sick attempt at prolonging their faceoff, Dmitri healed Flash. Lamik tried to put an end to it by levitating Dmitri, and succeeded, lifting him off of his feet. In an act of either loyalty to his duelling captain, or revenge for Alexa (either way misguided), Henry Knight decided to join the fray. He tried to Knockback the one levitating Dmitri, missed, but didn't seem the type to give up on a course of action unless stopped by forceful means. By the time this commotion kicked off, Pericles was close to exiting the duelling club, yet the clamor stopped him at the doors. It had become very apparent from the shouts of the crowd, clamoring out of the crossfire, shouted remarks and a shifting atmosphere, that the sounds of spells did not align with either of the ongoing official duels.

Turning on his heel, Pericles began wading back through the masses. Hasty Excuse mes and Step aside pleases soon turned to mute, gentle redirection, hands pushing people by the shoulders as politely yet determinedly as he could manage. Onlookers hindered his arrival, but did not prevent it. The Ravenclaw stepped onto the scene with a rare expression of pureblood propriety: disappointment bordering on disdain. Unarmed, he raised his hands and voice. "No fighting with or without the use of magic," he quoted directly from the school rules, directing the line at all four with a pointed look at each participant. "The duel is over. Fighting outside of an official capacity is grounds for detention. Show some restraint." Now, Peri had been in at least one scrap of his own that toed outside the line of good form, but he certainly hadn't held a school function hostage in the process. Therein lay the source of his derision: disrupting the sport he had come to hold so sacredly.

The chief culprit in this disgraceful show of hormonal outbursts and twitchy trigger fingers was Dmitri, the one who initiated it, although he was the eldest present and held dueling rank. The pale lad directed his old man frown at him last. "Not a'tall the sort of display I'd expect from a duel captain. Do you think they'll let you keep your title if you're losing your temper at younger years?" But Dmitri hadn't exactly started firing into the crowd, and thus wasn't the only one about to be held accountable. "You four are intruding on the ongoing matches. Clear off. Expect an owl detailing the nature of your detentions."
Very likely giving detention to everyone slinging spells. Make your case! More details next post.

Lamik had managed to grab hold of Dmitri with the Levitation charm! This was all very good for his already elevated levels of pride. What's more, even while holding the captain of the Slytherin Dueling Team up in the air (who was older than him, it should be pointed out), the young boy managed to avoid being hit by a spell shot at him unexpectedly! Was it luck or skill? Luck, probably, but there was no reason to let that ruin the moment. Lamik took a moment scowl at henry, trying to convey the frustration he felt at being attacked for no reason (that he was aware of at least).

The moment was ruined, very possibly justifiably, by Pericles. As soon as Lamik heard the rule being quoted he lowered his wand, ending the spell placed on Dmitri. Detention? He thought to himself, confused. Why would he be given detention? Turning to face the prefect, he began trying to explain himself. "I know what that looked like, but I was just trying to help him." The Gryffindor quickly pointed his wand at Flash. "Who was just defending him-" Lamik cut himself off as soon as he realized that it wasn't Dmitri who attacked first. "Well... ok, maybe not. But he only tried disarming Dmitri, who goaded him into doing it, and who responded with... well... fire. A lot of fire. It was dangerous, and no one else was coming to do anything, so I had to. And I made sure to use a harmless spell too." Lamik winced once he realized that the fall might have hurt quite a bit, but didn't dare look over at Dmitri to find out. "Mostly harmless."

Even as he spoke, however, Lamik wasn't quite convinced that he wasn't in the wrong. There were people all around- Pericles, for example. Surely if he had just waited a bit more someone whose job it was to solve the issue would have come along. Then again, those few moments could have been very painful for Flash. Lamik really wasn't sure anymore. "Alright, maybe I deserve it. Detention it is."

Certainly, Dmitri was enjoying the opportunity he was given to display just how much shit he could take from anybody—which was none; the answer is always zero—and it surely would not hurt that whoever was watching would know not to challenge him ever again. (Though, let's be real, it would probably end up birthing another case of opponents backing out of his duels before they even started, which in turn would force him to relive this whole farce once more, so how practical was it really?)

What wasn't enjoyable, though, was an opponent who couldn't fight back.

And what was Flash right then if it wasn't the epitome of helplessness?

Dmitri would shake his head, whispering disappointedly. "I expected more from you."

Already over it all, the boy would raise his wand for one last spell. One that would end this joke of a game so he could leave and take his anger out on somebody or something else that would actually be a challenge. His bed sounds pretty good as a target. Sleeping was a hurdle for him if anything.

However, someone chose that exact moment to interfere.

"What the hell?" Dmitri would exclaim heatedly as he would suddenly find himself floating in the air a few feet from the ground. Whipping his head around, he would find a lone Gryffindor who apparently found the courage to shove his nose where it didn't belong. "Why you little—!" No big deal. The Slytherin captain was competent enough to deal with two idiots. He'd just have to refine his original spell.

His dual spell was only able to hit its original target and instead veered off in some distant corner when it came to Lamik. It—unfortunately—meant Dmitri was still up in the air.

It was this scene that Pericles would walk into in his duties as prefect.

The fourth-year couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at the audacity that came out of the Ravenclaw's mouth.

"Detention, you say?" He would let out a hearty guffaw, feigning the act of wiping tears from the corner of his eyes. "You're funny. I never would've expected that from someone... of your caliber, let's just put it that way." The boy's boisterous expression would quickly morph into something more familiar—a kind of bored but subtly vicious stare. One that pierced into the third year who dared talk that way about him.

"Now since we are apparently pretending to be someone we're not and would never be, let me tell you the sort of display I'd expect from a prefect.

"I'd expect one to be on top of any heated situation so that they wouldn't come in here with their facts all wrong accusing someone of breaking the rules when there are eyewitnesses to the whole thing they could've asked first before coming to any sort of conclusion!" Dmitri took a calming breath before continuing his tirade.

"Because let's be honest, you left too early and came too late. I already had the situation under control. I was attacked first, everyone will tell you that, and I defended myself by incapacitating my attacker." The boy would gesture towards Flash before waving his hand somewhere in the direction of the interfering Gryffindor. "In fact, I was being ganged up o—AH SHIT!" A boy who chose, at that very moment, to release his Leviosa.

Dmitri's school robe would find itself brushed by a steady hand as the fourth-year managed to stand up and recover from the fall as if nothing happened at all. At least, that's what he tried to accomplish.

"As I said, I was being ganged upon." The boy would continue, pointedly ignoring Henry Knight and his attempt at "defending" him as failure didn't deserve his attention, anyway. Especially not from one of his duelists.

"Since you apparently know it all, surely self-defense is in the fine print of the rules you so hold important?"

And if it's not, well, this is the hill I'd die on and one that I would defend in front of actual authorities in this institution to my last breath. Now, I'm going to leave and you will not stop me. In fact, you can interview some of the people here so you can say you've at least done your job. Maybe get this story published in the Headliner. The gods know those people are desperate for anything interesting to write about at this point." The Slytherin dueling captain would turn his back on the crowd as he says this, head held high, striding straight towards the exit.

Before disappearing out the door, he would look over his shoulder and smirk. "Oh. And I only accept galleons in royalties. You can owl it to me for your convenience."

If Dmitri wasn't stopped, all the people would hear in his wake is his smug chuckling as he disappears from sight.

In what could have been a very simple interaction, so much had gone horribly sideways. While Flash was overcome with mind numbing fear, two other student had begun to involve themselves in the fight. It all started to sound like garbled noise to him, the corners of his vision feeling fuzzy and gray. He realized at that point that if he didn't start breathing again, he was going to faint. One would think facing adversity would have steeled him against more of it, from being so phased by something so minor, but it hadn't.

Breathing again, still leaning against the floor, Dmitri would admonish him for not doing better-- a joke, given that Flash had never wanted to fight. He had only ever wanted to stop him, not fight him. Well, maybe it was his own fault for sticking his nose in where it didn't belong. Dmitri didn't ask to be saved from himself. His intervening had clearly only made things worse for everyone, but it shouldn't have. No one else was speaking up, and it was clear now why. Even though this was how it ended up, he couldn't say he regretted it. It was still the right thing to do, whether he wanted to hear it or not. It wasn't up to him whether doing the right thing would ever pay off, that wasn't the point.

Regardless, Dmitri would make sure he wouldn't regain his composure and further attempt to intervene, as he was stuck completely motionless by another spell. If it wasn't for the person beside him that he couldn't see and didn't recognize by voice, he would have been the only person at all who got hurt in this scenario. Dmitri was stuck in place in the air while a prefect finally came around to interject. Pericles, the one who had been slated to moderate Dmitri's duel to begin with.

As Flash's senses started to come back to him, he was starting to hear better what was going on around him. Detention, him being blamed for casting first, about what was expected. Flash tried to use what power he had to break free from the spell that kept him prisoner.

At least he could move now, and continue to even his breath. Everyone had seen enough weakness from him that day without needing to add on a panic attack or abrupt fainting. He would still have sweat on his brow, look over-exerted despite how little he had actually done. Looking up at Pericles, then to the others who were similarly discussing the fate of all that were gathered there and who should take the blame, he wiped his brow tiredly.

"Dmitri's right, I started it." He said, winded. "No one should be punished but me."

He was just glad Dmitri was stepping away. The way he had acted was sure to be remembered by the people who were watching, but they were not going to be seeing his side. Detention would only further his sense of victimhood-- though Flash wasn't going to tell Pericles how to do his job. He'd merely state his suggestion.

Henry would have liked just a few minutes to cast only one, singular spell at Lamik for Alexa Mackenzie but that was when the ravenclaw prefect came and seem to be suggesting detention for dueling in the dueling room.

Henry wasn't going to get in between Dmitri and Flash, the young teen was actually planning to leave once he landed on spell at Lamik but now things were cut short and alliances were shifted.

The young teen took note of his captain and didn't care if the fourth year got detention and he heard Flash's words as well but it didn't phase him if he recieved detention either. However he felt bad for targeting Lamik and decided to help him out a bit.

Henry would slide his wand back inside his back jean pocket and put on his emotionless statue as he spoke toward Pericles, " fighting of any kind is aginest school rules and the use of magic outside of class without permission or proper supervision is also prohibited however," the young teen would give a small smirk as he continued, " students are allowed to pratice dueling in the dueling room which we are at and a dueling captain can count as the proper supervision. So I can't speak for Dmitri and Flash but Lamik and I weren't technically breaking any rules."

The young teen knew the rules at Hogwarts,
after all one must know the rules to be able to break them. As well as one has to be able to know how to lie to get out of trouble so Henry would approach Lamik and stand next to him offering him a small nod and smile as if to say "go along with it" before started it calmly speak" Lamki and I planned to pratice dueling before this, our spells just got mixed up with the chaos of the other duel but we didn't mean no harm to anyone and technically didn't break any rules." Henry would nod a bit to Pericles before turning toward Lamik with a friendly smile as he spoke" I'll see you later Lamik, it was a shame our pratice got cut short but there's always next time."

Henry would then turn back toward Pericles with a small smile as he spoke" since I didn't break any rules and won't be receiving detention, I'll be leaving now. My feline is probably looking for me in the dormitory, excuse me," keeping a calm and polite and emotionless demeanor as he carefully moved past the group and left the dueling room.

Henry would walk down the hall and feel is breathing increase heavily, as his ears throbbed and head ached. His anxiety was increasing that whole time but he did well to hide it, now that he was alone walking briskly down the corridor to the slytherin common room he could no longer hide his anxiety.

It was a mess: Flash had been burnt, healed, then paralyzed by Dmitri, Dmitri was being levitated by Lamik, and Henry had seen fit to get in on the action. Flash managed to wrestle his way out of the bind as the Ravenclaw stooped to try and pick the poor lad up, instead switching to offering a hand, which would haul him to his feet if accepted. Pericles narrowly withheld a grimace in the process. Couldn't Hogwarts get through one day without students turning on one another, what with all the external threats looming over them? Honestly, it was almost as if someone had taken hundreds of magic-imbued teenagers and stuck them all in an enclosed space! Oh, wait.... Lamik explained that he was trying to help Flash, who had been goaded into disarming Dmitri, who proceeded to try and set the second-year on fire. He concluded by admitting he might deserve detention, when Flash took things a step further, claiming himself as the only one there that did. Call it reverse psychology, but their willingness to take blame made the prefect not want to give him detention at all. His initial disappointment was quickly cooling into a more even rationality, mind vividly working to weigh what he was being told and come to a conclusion in swift succession. Reasoning worked wonders with Pericles, as did selflessness. An argument would only bring the boy to dig in his heels, as the other two would soon find out.

Peri remained rooted as Dmitri launched into a classical tantrum tirade. He wasn't the type to cut someone off, and thus was forced to listen, wait, unmoving save the arch of an eyebrow when the fourth-year fell to the ground. He was not in a rush to help him up. Dmitri would put his caliber into question, which didn't seem to register as an insult with Pericles. "I suppose it does seem strange that I should have to stoop to deal with something so silly, but this is why prefects are appointed in the first place. Someone has to be accountable." He then went on to complain about Pericles departing when the duel was done, as well as not coming back to stop the squabble sooner. Perhaps in the Slytherin's mind, the Ravenclaw was supposed to hex the crowd out of his way. His frown remained firm, volume level, tone dry and flat in comparison to Dmitri's dripping disdain. Ahhh, Blond Fight! "Left too soon? Was I meant to stick around and nanny you?" Henry tried to play his part off as some sort of "practice" in the middle of an official duel, though Lamik hadn't accounted for this spontaneous attack in any way. The prefect scoffed, not out of contempt, but from sheer bafflement over the attempt at twisting the rules into one's own favor. "You are a duellist, Henry," he pointed out plainly. Inhuman patience was all which kept his annoyance at shoddy duplicity under wraps. "I expect you to know the difference between a duel and a scuffle; I could differentiate between the two from across the room. And, from the sounds of it, your 'opponent' did not know you were in a match, what with you casting behind his back."

Poor excuses, poorer form. Pericles seemed to have reached a conclusion when Henry announced he was not receiving detention, turning to storm off, as did Dmitri. The prefect huffed a small sigh and steeled himself. This was not at all a card he cared to play, feeling as though it placed a wedge between staff and students... but then, their behaviors had already done so. If he was going to be treated like an authoritative killjoy no matter his approach, so help the boy, he would lean into it. "Rule eleven: students may not disrespect staff, such as prefects or professors. Two offenses, longer detention." He turned to Flash again, giving him a quick once-over, muttering covertly "Are you alright? I was just on my way to the nurse's office, if you would care to come." Any onlookers were dispersed with drifting handwaves and assurances that the entertainment was on the stages, where their attention was better deserved.
Pericles exits the scene.
Oh man, you all got detention! Flash and Dmitri go here, Lamik and Henry go here.

Flash was quiet while Pericles started to reprimand the others around him, especially Henry and Dmitri. He remained tight-lipped, trying not to smile when the prim and proper prefect snapped back at the two snakes' snippiness. He had been shaken up before, but the danger was gone, there were no more wands in his face. He could breathe again.

Flash obviously would have preferred to take all of the responsibility, if only to use it as a bargaining chip in the future. Alas, Pericles was far too fair and observant. Flash had avoided long-term contact with him for that very reason. Although he was implicated to be working on the issue with the hags in tandem with Meenauh and Xailah, and had been encouraged as a source for knowledge by Sylvain, he couldn't help but feel he was somewhat suspicious. Perhaps it was how clean he always came off, it felt like it must be an act. No one was that nice for no reason.

Getting ready to leave with the others, not wanting to draw attention away from the duels for any longer, Pericles asked him whether he needed a trip to the nurse. He was in pain, but it wasn't the kind of thing that demanded to be addressed. His instinct was to deny it, it wouldn't do him any favors to admit Dmitri had hurt him that badly. At the very least he could rescue a small sliver of pride by appearing unfazed.

"I'm alright, thank you." He would say shortly, before moving past him and exiting the room. He hoped Willow and Opeila were doing well.
