Talking with @Haley Rose

Sunscreen for his kind sounded like a really great idea and who knew, maybe someday someone would invent such a thing. "They made Wolfsbane Potion to help the werewolves...who knows what can be possible," he said, glancing over to her with a smile, appreciating the thought. It was a pretty good idea actually and if he excelled at potions he might have thought about that goal for the future - but he didn't see it happening, not with him.

Simon was feeling a little warm. Uncomfortably warm. It was the heat of the burn starting, although slowly. He knew that Haley enjoyed nature, he had seen it before in some drawings, heard slight mention here and there. He knew she would enjoy being out there with him and that's why he wanted so desperately to stay.

A little while longer. What would it hurt?

"Yea, yea, I'm alright," it was kind that she was thinking of him. "We should try to spend a bit more time out here, you know? Not just the Courtyard, but here...Hogwarts, the grounds and the Scottish Highlands in general. What's your favorite spot around the school? You should show it to me before the end of term."

That would give them another chance to be out there and he hoped whenever it was, it was just a very overcast day.

The sun shifted a little above to bring the sunlight closer to his side of the bench and he sighed. He didn't want to go in just yet but it was nearing the only possibility.

let's get out of the sun @Simon Kincaid
Haley didn't really know what career she saw herself in in the future, she knew she wanted to see the world but she didn't have the typical career aspiration. But maybe someday she would invent things, potions or something like that to help wizards and witches who were limited. As was Simon's case. She had to smile at the thought, it was unlikely but a nice idea.

Haley smiled broadly at the idea of her and Simon spending more time out here. She would love to do that, but she also knew it wasn't good for him. She knew he would only do it for her but the thought made her feel bad. She didn't want to be selfish and she didn't believe him that it was all good either. They had been outside for some time and even though Simon was sitting in the shade, the UV rays were finding their way to him. She looked at him a little sceptically, but she also didn't want to imply that he was lying and so she ignored her doubts for a moment.

"That's a tough question." Haley answered, thinking for a moment. Did she have a favourite place out here? There were pros and cons everywhere. Every place was special in its own way. "In a way, everything is nice but I guess if I had to pick one, it would be down at the great Lake." She had often thought about how nice it would be to just jump in on a warm summer day, but the idea of a giant squid that might not be pleased with her sudden visit stopped her.

"I'll show you all my favourite places one day." Haley assured him, mentally making an extra note that it would be on cloudy or even rainy days though. It didn't always have to be sunny and rain could be great too.

Haley noticed Simon's reaction to the sun and didn't want to torture him further. She knew he'd probably been here far too long and his skin would make him feel it for the next few days. "I think we should go back inside." She suggested, saying it in a tone that indicated she didn't want to discuss it any further either and most importantly, that it was okay with her.

Lots of thoughts with @Haley Rose

Simon looked up, taking in the blue sky. None of this was really fair. So much happened outdoors - friends would meet, animals would live and grow, flowers would blossom, and sporting events would be held. That and so much more. Life happened outdoors, far more often than it did inside the walls of a building and yet he didn't get to experience that nearly the way others did. It was like he was some animal, held captive.

He tried to make the best of it. He had developed a love of music and a love of reading, two things he could do indoors. He had learned how to dance, enjoyed singing, even partook in sports that could be done away from the sunlight. Still, it didn't always make it better when he knew what he was missing out on.

And why? None of this was his fault. Because his father was a monster? A vampire? That still was quite perplexing to him. It made him wonder at times though that why would he bear the sins of his father? That didn't seem right when it came to his God and his beliefs, but then who was he to judge? Why did he feel he had the nerve to doubt? It made him feel guilty.

"Alright," he said finally, not wanting to admit it but she was right. With end of term so near and the school dance less than two weeks away, he didn't need to be spending any time in the Hospital Wing for something so silly as to the effects that sunlight caused when he knew it was best to keep his distance.

"One more moment though," he said, turning his gaze from the sky to her. He studied her a moment before glancing down, slightly self-conscious. "Your hair is even prettier when the sun hits it."

sun and red hair @Simon Kincaid
Haley felt bad because she was so connected to nature, loved enjoying time outside and exploring everything. She could do all that without giving it a second thought, but Simon wasn't able to. It was unfair and Haley wished she had the power to change that. That he could at least go one day without worrying about anything, but she didn't have that power. She couldn't even be sure if it really bothered Simon that much, because after all, there were people who didn't even like to be outside even if they could and also there were many other things that could be done. A little chaos arose in her mind.

Haley was glad, however, that Simon agreed without argument. Of course she would want to sit here with him for more hours, but they could also spend time together at the castle and there it would do neither of them any harm. She nodded to him and just as she was about to get up, Simon spoke up again. For a moment she looked at him in confusion, but looked down at her long hair in embarrassment. "Thank you." She almost whispered a little shyly and took one of her strands between her fingers and looked at her red hair, which really shone a lot through the sun.

She had always liked her hair, she had inherited it from her paternal grandmother. She was the only one in the family and she always thought it was special because she rarely came across others with that hair colour. But as a child, others started to tease her about it, the strangest names were thrown at her and she was made fun of for being different. But none of this had changed her attitude. She loved her hair and she was glad that Simon did too.

She reached for his hand and pulled him up from the bench so that they could make their way into the castle together.
