Letters to the Wind
To whomever finds this,
I must first congratulate you. Either this letter fell in your lap or you went chasing after this owl to see what it had. I would have loved to see you chase the owl though, that seems like the more entertaining way to receive the letter. I honestly do not even know where the owl will take this bit of parchment really.
You needn't write back either, if you did stumble across the parchment, if that is what you wish. Though if you do write back I would enjoy hearing how far it made it. Probably farther than I have. My father told me to make friends, that this school would be good for me, and currently I find that he must have been lying. Everyone seems so effortlessly happy, always laughing and having fun with their friends.
I guess I had different expectations. I expected that I would learn more of my mother and even found myself hoping at the end that I would be sorted into her house. That clearly didn't happen though. I thought that maybe making friends was easy but then I took for granted hiding behind my father.
I want to be brave and strong, I truly do, but I don't know where to begin. I can't even tell my father how I feel about this. He'd likely send me some liquid luck and a corny letter telling me that I've got this. So I suppose that's why the anonymity is so appealing to me, and maybe you'll write back.
I'll be waiting,
Prideless

[font=times new roman]Prideless,
You are not alone. Many students come to Hogwarts believing it’s a flawless place. Somewhere you can flourish, no matter who you are. However, for many students like yourself, that is not the case. Whether the wonders of learning magic isn’t enough to distract you from your life at home, or you just didn’t get sorted into the house you’d hoped to be in, things can go wrong. And they will. Murphy’s law. It’s a muggle thing, I wouldn’t expect someone who grew up in the wizarding world to know what it means, if you have. “Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.”
It hurts to see other people living the life you’d imagined for yourself. It hurts to live the opposite of the life that you dreamt you’d live. Irony is merciless, he relents for no one, even those struggling the most. Especially them, it seems. I’m sorry you haven’t yet learned more about your mother, and that you didn’t get into her house. Don’t worry, though. I don’t pity you. Especially because it doesn’t really matter. If you can’t find people you like within your house, you’ll find them elsewhere. You just won’t be able to share a dorm with them, is all.
I mentioned Murphy’s law, and though I wrote the better known version of it, there is another. “Things will go wrong in any given situation, if you give them a chance.” Try to make the best of your stay here, if you’re up to it. That reasoning never helped me to become anything near an optimist, but it could help you if you let it. Find someone to be brave and strong for, whether it’s your dad or yourself. And if you are comfortable, maybe send a letter to your father. If he’s as lovely as he seems, I’m sure he’ll be proud of you regardless if you have a hundred friends or none at all. Besides, liquid luck is a good gift, and words of encouragement can’t hurt.
Think about it,
Hopeless
PS. The owl dropped your parchment in the courtyard.
Wyatt would fold his parchment, then give the same owl the reply and ask it to send his letter to whoever sent the original.

Hopeless,
You were right, I hadn't heard of that.... Murphys law? I believe that is what you called it. Perhaps I have been giving failure too many options here in my first year at this school. I'm not sure if I could really write my father at this moment though, he's always been there but now that I'm here I feel I should find ways to sort out my messes myself. I don't know if that makes any sense.
I never thought the owl would drop the parchment. I almost want to say I'm disappointed. I guess I didn't consider that with no destination the owl might fly till it got tired and then drop it. Or maybe you were just the person fate thought would be compassionate enough to write back. Whatever the case may be I am almost relieved to see that I am not the only one struggling.
If anything, I know that your kinds words have eased the weight off my shoulders, if only a little. It wouldn't be right if I couldn't return the favor to you. Though I'm sure I know less than you must know. I will always be ready to read your problems and try to help the best that I can, as it seems you may also have some burdens that you need help to carry.
Keep pushing,
Prideless

[font=times new roman]Prideless,
Compassionate is the last thing anyone who knows me would call me. Fate has high expectations of me if they dropped your letter before me on purpose. Though if that was their guess, I suppose they were proven right.
I'm glad I could help in any way, as I don’t often get the chance to. I haven’t been the kindest person during my time at Hogwarts (to say the least), and so cowardly hiding behind anonymity is the only way I’d be able to comfort someone. I find that most parts of being strongly disliked by most of the students here aren’t fun, but it’s too late to build a new image for myself. And any time I try to change, I slip back into old habits anyway.
There’s someone I’m trying to be better for. We can call them Wonderful. They’re my only friend, and I don’t want to hurt them. I’m just scared that one day they’ll see me for the bad person I am, and they’ll leave me alone. I know you asked, but I still feel like I shouldn’t have bothered telling you about my “burdens”. This was only something I’ve been thinking about. Nothing I couldn’t handle. It does feel good to get it off my chest, though.
Thank you,
Hopeless

Hopeless,
I can see that Wonderful has quite an impact on you. I think that whoever they are they may be a great influence. I understand fighting old habits, though mine may be much more innocent than what yours are. The important thing is that you are trying, and even though you may fall it seems that you keep up and try again.
Perhaps something my father told me will help you. He has always told me that before he met my mother he was closely following his brothers footsteps. He said it was a dark time but then my mother came into his life. My father says that it takes a special ingredient to turn a potion to poison or into what it was meant to be. For him it was my mother. Perhaps Wonderful is the ingredient that is meant to help you become your true self.
Have faith,
Prideless
Iris sent the owl off with a smile this time, hoping the letter would help the one who would recieve it
