Another Acceptance Letter?
Hopeful and Waiting in the Courtyard for @Haley Rose
He had ruined it.
Haley had asked if they wanted to go to the Blossom Ball together and he hesitated and furthermore he made up some lame excuse that he'd have to think about it because of last minute assignments and final examinations. That wasn't the normal Simon Kincaid who ceased every opportunity to get the most enjoyment out of life. Now Haley was going to think something was up.
He owed her.
He owed her big time. Making anyone feel down was not a good thing but especially not when it came to her. He was supposed to be the one that lifted her up, not brought her sadness. So Simon thought and thought and thought how he could remedy this. It was all because he wanted to do a thoughtful proposal on asking her to the dance - something he had neglected to do before. At least in doing this, she would realize that she was still as special to him as ever and that he wanted to go to the dance with her.
They had a lot in common. Both liked music, both could play the piano. They had initially bonded over Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, the book by Lewis Carroll. They enjoyed dancing and laughing.
Still, what essentially brought them together was this magical school that opened up an entire new world to him back in September. That was it. When you weren't sure where to begin, that's where you start - at the very beginning.
Simon gathered a few things, some aged parchment, got out his quill and ink well, and began to get to work, trying to make the most - somewhat - official Hogwarts Acceptance Letter that one could make. Granted, forgery wasn't his forte but by the time he was done he was rather pleased with it.
He made his way up to the Fifth Floor where the Gryffindor Tower was and convinced an entering Second Year to deliver the note. Then he made his way down to the Courtyard where the note said he would be and hoped that she would arrive soon.

making her way to see @Simon KincaidHaley was lying on her bed in her dormitory, listening to the birds chirping through the tilted window and reading her book. It was a beautiful day, Haley had no more chores to do, but her mood was relatively low. She didn't know why, but she decided to withdraw today and avoid people as much as possible. So now she lay here, reading her book, skimming the pages more than really concentrating on what was written.
Eventually she gave up, put the book aside and folded her arms behind her head when suddenly there was a knock at the door. It was unusual, because normally her roommates would just enter the dormitory. Confused, she answered with a "Yeah?" and straightened up in her bed and looked at the door. Peering through the door was an unfamiliar face, at least Haley didn't know it personally, only from encounters in the common room. "Haley?" the unknown inquired and she nodded. "This is for you." She held out a letter to her and after Haley thanked her she was gone.
Sitting cross-legged, she examined the letter and opened it impatiently. What was it all about? Who was the letter from? The first sentence answered all her questions and a broad smile unconsciously formed on her lips. Of course, she thought to herself as she read the rest of the letter. Haley had to admit, she had been sad when Simon had rejected her, but now it all made sense. After all, it was Simon and he always came up with something special, just like this time. Why hadn't she thought of it herself? She was more than happy about it. Her bad mood had faded away and she hopped up from her bed.
She quickly put on her shoes, stowed the letter in her back trouser pocket and skipped down the steps to the common room and just as quickly down the stairs in the castle and in just a few minutes she had arrived at the large front door. She strode through the door, her eyes searching for none other than Simon Ezra Kincaid.
It wasn't long before she caught sight of him and smiled broadly at him.

Meeting @Haley Rose
Normally he didn't frequent the Courtyard. It wasn't that he didn't like the space. It was a convenient way to sometimes get from one place to another. It was adorned with some beautiful types of flowers. It offered some fresh air on days where courses in stuffy classrooms seemed to be never ending. It also had a beautiful fountain. The downside for Simon was that it was outdoors and thus, often was touched by the sunlight that filled the days.
Still, if this was going to be something special, he couldn't just go to the Library. He ALWAYS met Haley in the Library. No, a different location would be best and he remembered one of their early encounters that included a snowball fight in the Courtyard before they began dating. The Courtyard was the right place for this.
He just hoped she would show up.
What if she was upset with him? What if she wouldn't even read the note? What if the Second Year Gryffindor that he had given it to decided not to give it; or couldn't find her? What if she already said she'd go with someone else and now needed to figure out a way to turn him down politely?
He tried not to overthink as he waited, watching a few of his fellow first years run across the way - racing one another. It was a Sunday and those days were pretty calm at Hogwarts. Students were getting in their last breath of freedom before another week's worth of classes began. He himself usually started out Sundays alone in his dormitory with his Bible, reading some of the passages since there was no Sunday Morning Service there at Hogwarts.
He had done that this morning and he had read up some of the passages that touched on patience. Patience. That was what he was needing right now. She would show.
Simon had just placed his hands in his pockets when he heard the loud sound of the door opening to his right and he looked over his shoulder to see none other than Haley Rose approaching his way. He smiled brightly and began to walk towards her direction.
"Fancy meeting you here," he said casually.

worried about @Simon KincaidHaley couldn't believe that Simon had managed to surprise her like that again. A thousand things went through her mind when she saw him, but above all she was happy about their special relationship. How he could manage to improve her mood in just a few seconds with a letter that came so unexpectedly. But that's what made it so special, the little details that stood out and always brought a smile to her lips. And all without magic.
"I heard an eager Hufflepuff would like to meet me here," she replied in the same casual tone as Simon had greeted her and stopped in front of him, still grinning broadly. Another little special detail about the two of them. The humour they shared, the jokes they could make with each other and laugh at each other without the other being angry.
Another detail was the place where they met today. Haley liked to be here, generally she liked to spend her time outside but with Simon she usually met in the library. She remembered the day when the two of them stood here, only then surrounded by snow, and had a little snowball fight. At that time, however, Haley knew nothing of his illness, which had since turned out not to be an illness. Of course she thought it was a pity that she couldn't just spend the afternoon with Simon lying in a meadow, but she didn't care where they met, be it the cellar.
But she was all the more struck by the gesture that he was waiting for her here today and it warmed her heart. But immediately she remembered the problem with the sun and began to worry. The smile disappeared from her face and with wide eyes she looked at Simon as if he had just surrendered himself. "Oh Simon, are you crazy?" she asked now. She didn't know how long he had been standing here in the sun and somehow tried to shield his skin from the sun with her hands. If she hadn't been so worried at that moment, she would have laughed at this quaint attempt. "What about the sun?" she added, still slightly panicked, to her previous question and looked at him worriedly, as if he were about to burst into flames.

Shade and Sunshine with @Haley Rose
She asked if he was crazy and put her hands up and at first he didn't collect what it was she was doing. Was he crazy for inviting her to the ball? Was he crazy for not having accepted her invitation at first? But then she mentioned the sun and he couldn't help but laugh because she was too small to cast any sort of shadow upon him that would be helpful.
"I'm fine, I'm fine," he assured her, reaching up to take both of her hands into his and lowering them down. "I never get to see that brilliant red hair of yours in the sunlight," he continued. It was worth it - whatever pain he might feel later. It was so bright and the way it caught and reflected the sunlight was almost like fire.
"I can be out for a little while. Granted, not very long, but I'll let you know when I need to go in." Plus it was a nice day, not too hot - and there was a wonderful breeze softly blowing to where the coolness could be felt but it wasn't so much that it was bothersome.
He walked with her over to one of the stone benches were they took a seat. It was a nice spot, somewhat in the shade from where he sat and also lit by the sun for her half. "You mentioned something about meeting some...Eager Hufflepuff?" he asked, almost as if he wasn't sure what she was referencing but of course it was him. It had been written in his signature blue ink that he used for all his coursework and assignments. It also was in his handwriting.
"What might this sort of meeting entail?"

Some eager Hufflepuff @Simon KincaidHaley knew she couldn't have shielded Simon from the sun, she was a lot smaller than him, yet she didn't know any other way to help herself. But when he began to laugh at the pitiful attempt, she was somewhat relieved and began to giggle. She returned the grip of his hands and immediately noticed the coldness radiating from his skin. By now Haley had gotten used to it and she had to admit that on warm days it did have its advantages and started to smile at the thought.
At his comment about her hair, she couldn't help but smile sheepishly. She brushed her hair on the right side behind her ear and looked down at her feet. "All right, but really let me know right away if it gets too bad." She admonished Simon, still a little worried about him. As much as she enjoyed spending time outside with him, she was still more worried about it hurting Simon.
She followed him to a bench, half in shade and half in sun. She sat on the light side and squinted her eyes as the sun began to glare. She slid around a bit until she had a position where her eyes weren't trying to block out the sunlight by squinting and fixed her gaze on Simon. "Ah, yeah. I think it's about the blossom ball." She answered him when he returned to the subject and they both pretended not to know that this Hufflepuff was Simon.
Haley thought back to the day they met in the library and she had already asked Simon about the ball then. Even though she was sad then after his answer, she could smile about it now. It was all the better today. But she wouldn't be Haley if she didn't make fun of this situation herself. "Well, I was a little surprised. You have to know, I was more or less turned down as an date for the ball not long ago." She explained to him as if he didn't know but the corners of her mouth pulled up on one side and she winked at him. "But it looks like I might have a date after all."

Plans with @Haley Rose
"Oh wow...you? Haley Rose? Turned down?" he shook his head from side to side as he pondered that, "impossible. Git must not have understood or something or he's a downright fool. Good thing you've got that eager Hufflepuff...more like lucky Hufflepuff, if you ask me."
He would turn a little serious now though because he was sorry for how he had left things between them. "I didn't ever mean to upset you," he said sincerely. "I just...wanted a way to ask you to where you understood that I thought about you and you know, customized it to you a little... that you're worth the time and all because you are."
Simon glanced down, feeling slightly self-conscious.
"I was thinking green? You know, how I said that my Aunt Maggie would help me with what to wear again. You love your green and green goes with Spring and all. I heard it's like...Ancient Greece or something like that but we've never really been one to follow exactly the beaten path."
In fact he sort of liked that they didn't. It made it more unique. More memorable.
"But if you've got something else in mind, by all means. I'm not stuck on one thing," he smiled. Besides, it was the girls that put more into their attire than the guys, but Simon always wanted to make sure he went that extra mile, especially for Haley.

ball, dress and suit @Simon KincaidHaley shook her head and smiled at Simon, he was anything but a git. She knew he had never meant any harm, she knew that from the first moment, which was why she had never really been mad at him. Just a little unsure, but now it finally turned out that it had been worth it. The next words weren't necessary, Haley wasn't even thinking about it anymore and she wasn't upset either. She didn't want Simon to feel bad about it now, he had had a good reason for it.
When he looked down, she took his face in both hands and made him look at her again. She was still smiling at him. "Don't worry and I promise I am and I wasn't upset. Maybe just a bit confused." She took her hands away from his face again but continued to look into his eyes. "I'm glad you did, once again you managed to surprise me."
She really meant it. Secretly, of course, she had hoped that Simon would ask her. But when the subject came up in the library, she felt like now they have to talk about whether they would go together or not. And since she liked the typical gender roles in such situations, she never stuck to them. Who said a woman couldn't ask? But in her attempt, she would probably have said no herself. Just like that, in an aside in the library was really not very charming.
"Green sounds great!" she replied enthusiastically, knowing she would be sending an owl to her grandmother today. She always helped her with things like that and always had an excellent selection of dresses. "We wouldn't be us if we didn't stand out a bit from the crowd, would we?" she agreed with Simon, already looking forward to this evening.
She loved dressing up for a special evening. To enter a beautifully decorated room, where she could see charming people everywhere, with beautiful dresses and suits. Where music played, where there was room to dance and where one could forget everyday life for a moment. And thinking about the last ball, she was especially looking forward to experiencing such an evening with Simon again. He looked incredibly good in a suit, could dance well, made Haley laugh and managed to make the evening even more unique than it already was.
"I actually can't wait!" She confessed now, rolling her eyes and starting to laugh. That was so typical girl but every now and then Haley was just a typical girl too. "Thank you for going to so much trouble. It really means a lot to me and it's a thousand times better than bringing it up in a casual way in the library."

Fresh Air with @Haley Rose
"It really wasn't much trouble," he admitted. He had the time. "I don't sleep too much," he really hadn't brought that up to her before, "so I had some extra time on my hands."
It was true. He only slept maybe every third night so that meant lots of sleepless hours where the castle was silent and he had nothing to do because of the curfew. Sure, he could sneak out, but he was a rule-abiding Hufflepuff and so that wasn't usually his first notion. Usually. He had made a trip or two to the Astronomy Tower and also to the Great Lake since he couldn't enjoy that during the day.
Simon was glad they were back on good terms again and he smiled over to Haley and gave a small exhale of relief. This had been on his mind ever since he had been so odd in the Library when she initially asked him.
But all was right again between and he and Haley and for that he was quite grateful. She was someone that he didn't want to upset, as he was to be there to lift her up and not bring her down.
"It's nice out here," he said, taking in the soft breeze. He didn't get too many opportunities to be outside.

"Another dhampir thing?" Haley asked, although she actually already knew the answer. Ever since they were sure he was one, she had been trying to learn a bit more about it and that was one of the things she had come across. They didn't sleep much at least they didn't need much sleep.taking in some fresh air @Simon Kincaid
"Yes, it really is." She replied to him, taking in a deep breath of the fresh air through her nose and glancing across the Courtyard. "It's a shame we can't be out here more often." By the time the words had left her mouth, she was regretting it. It was true, but she didn't want Simon to feel bad about it. They still always had a good time together, just not outside. Yet it was here, nature, with which Haley felt so connected. How she would love to lie in the meadow together with Simon on a beautiful day, go swimming in a lake or go on a discovery tour. But even if that wasn't possible, they could do many other nice things together.
"Someday I'll invent a sunscreen for Dhampire!" she joked now, trying to make up for her previous words. It was the last thing she wanted Simon to feel bad about in any way. "Are you all right with your skin then? Or should we go in?" she asked with a worried tone.
