Aaron was born on October 25 in the small town of Alfriston, East Sussex as the eldest child of Catherine and Jonathan Hastings. She has two younger twin brothers, Julian and Miles, who were born four years later and who share her violent curiosity and destructive tendencies. The Hastings family live in a sizable house on the outskirts of the village, where her father spends most days crafting furniture and wooden knick-knacks to sell at the weekly markets and her mother tends to their ginormous back garden, growing nearly every sort of vegetable known to man, and almost as many fruits as well. Catherine and Jon quickly abandoned the hope of teaching their young children the tricks of their trade at an early age, and instead encouraged them to leave the house and explore the world.
Aaron spent her childhood as a country lass, exploring the fields and forests of the English countryside, playing make-believe as powerful warriors and adventurers and leading her small band of misfits into all manners of trouble. Having read nearly all of the fairy tales and fantasy stories at the town's small library, her imagination boasts nearly as powerful a presence as her personality. Aaron sees herself as the hero of her own story, and therefore developed a habit of sticking her nose into everything, always taking the change and walking into danger. It also resulted in a skewed but helpful personality, where she is willing to help anyone and everyone, even if their request is questionable or dangerous. While this was worse when she was younger, she still tends to act first and think later.
Aaron was raised completely ignorant of magic, never knowing that the powers of her favourite fictional witches and wizards flowed through her blood as well. There had been occasional odd occurrences when she was younger, such as a door slamming shut when she was angry or a plant growing quicker than the others after she sang to it, but they were always brushed off as coincidence. Alfriston lies not far from the ocean, and Aaron spent a lot of time climbing on craggy rocks and splashing through shallows. She dreamed of becoming a sailor when she was older, of the military, merchant, or pirate variety, whichever appeared first. It was in a large partially submerged cave that Aaron had her first major instance of magic. One of the girls in her gang of friends fell into the ocean and Aaron jumped in after her. The two were nearly swept out to sea, but a frantic yell from Aaron caused the water to part, creating a path to safety. A wizard arrived at the Hastings house the next day to inform them that their daughter was a witch. It had taken less persuasion that one would think for Aaron's parents to let their daughter attend a mysterious wizard school in the middle of no where, and the paperwork for Aaron's admission was completed before the tea had even grown cold. Aaron's excitement and the twins' furious jealousy nearly knocked the house down in the days that followed. September arrived and Aaron was packed into the Hogwarts Express, where she happened to meet her best friend Eirian Blake.
