February 19th 2021@Everly CharltonFor some reason, Violet's favourite class was Potions. Maybe it was because of the complicated process some of the potions had to go through to actually work, and how unlike charms, she had to follow more instructions and put her mind and concentration more to the test. As much as she hated failure, failing sometimes leaded to learning new things, different ways. Brewing potions forced her to do so, and for that odd reason she loved it so much.
It was mid-february, and Violet was walking to her potions class in large, fast steps. Her school bag was filled with school supplies, ingredients, and tools that clickety clacked each time she took a step. It didn't bother her, but some students stared at the Slytherin while she made her way into the dark and mysterious potions classroom. It wasn't veru usual to see someone do so much noise while entering a classroom, especially when it came to Potions class. What Violet really wanted was to be prepared, and hadn't filled her bag with metal and glass tools for them to make so much of a racket on pourpose.
When she finally went to her desk, and listened attentively to what she had to do today, she realized that today they had to practice partnership. Thiought it wasn't unusual in classes such as potions to be signed up a partner, the first time she had been assigned one hadn't gone very well. It had ended how it started, wanting to be better than the other, and she sincerely didn't think that ould change with any class. Not even potions. Nope. She wasn't going to let anyone take her beautiful spotlight. No siree. Not today.
Violet turned to see who her partner was supposed to be. If it was going to be a freaking dumb student, she would definitely not do her best to cooperate in this. Her work would be hers alone, partnership was not something Violet would usually consider as fun.

-───────────────────────────Potions was far from Everly's favorite subject at Hogwarts. She did decently in it, so she wouldn't complain that loud in fear of the Potions Gods hearing her and making her grades drop. However, Everly really did find no use in the subject. Someone else might use it, but certainly not her. Everly couldn't see why she would ever even need to make a potion in the future she imagined for herself, or that she would ever want to. But unfortunately for the girl, Potions was a required subject. At least for now.
Mid-February was going well, sort of, for the girl. Valentine's Day craze was sort of over, snow was just starting to disappear, and spring was arriving - Everly's favorite time of the year, when it was not scorching hot like the summer was, but also not freezing cold like the winters were. It was perfect, in Everly's opinion - except it was better than fall in the fact that it was getting eventually warm, just before everything exploded.
Trudging into the dungeon that the Potions class was where Everly found herself at that time. Wow, that was a weird sentence. Of course, today was partners - meaning Everly found herself in a win-lose situation. See, if they did bad, she could blame it on her partner - after all, everyone knew how much she hated to lose - and if they did good, she could take all of the credit. Well, most of it.
Well, wasn't this an interesting situation.
Violet Carrington. While Everly didn't know her personally, Violet was one of the few people who were better than her in Potions. Only Potions though - Everly was sure she was better in every other subject. Hopefully.
Either way, now Everly was more than confused. With Violet as her partner, they'd do good, but was that a good thing for Everly? Spending several minutes on this important matter, Everly ruled that while doing great in class was good on her reputation with the teacher, but if Violet managed to "beat" - or, do better than Everly - Everly in this race of hers - well, that wouldn't end good both for Everly's ego and the rest of Potions class for the rest of eternity.
"Wellll," Everly said, slightly coughing, "shall we get started?"backdated to february 2021.
wow, I somehow managed to write way too much on that one subject☆

banner by Henry Llewellyn@Everly CharltonWell well, wasn't today going to be exiting. When Violet heard Everly Charlton's voice approach her, she turned to make eye contact with her, something that would make many people uncomfortable. That was a habit Violet had taken~ making people uncomfortable so that she would keep them at bay. However, the last thing she wanted was for her partner to run away. Indeed, she only wanted to show Charlton who was boss now, for the Gryffindor to follow her directions.
After a few seconds of scilence, Violet finally replied to Everly's question. "Of course we should get started. Unless you want to finish last, which is your decision.'' she said coldly. However nicely Everly was going to act, Violet would make sure to react coldly, and in a cutting matter, as thought the poor Gryffindor had done something wrong.
Nobody could blame Violet for her personality~ who would really take the blame were her parents and tutors, both of them had been cold and strict with her since she was old enough to talk, forcing her to keep quiet. Violet graduatedly became the same image as them, her personality as royal as ever.
"If you want to suceed this class, your better start preparing the ingredients, don't you think~ Everly?" she ordered to her partner, as she opened her potions book to start the lesson.

-───────────────────────────Everly stood stiffly, not quite sure what to do. Violet seemed to think staring at Everly was a good tactic - well, Everly would show her, and stare back, with a slight frown on her face, wow, Everly was starting to think that maybe Violet was better at one more thing than her because staring was quite uncomfortable and it kind of hurt her eyes and she wanted to blin -
"Of course. I was starting to wonder if you were done staring. Not that I blame you, naturally, I'm such a great thing to look at." Everly muttered under her breath. She could take a few jabs at Violet if she wanted to. Well, don't mind if I do.
But really, what was Violet's problem? Because as far as Everly could recall, she had done nothing (unless she had once spilled something over Violet. Because that could be highly likely) towards Violet that might even affect their relationship negatively. Or maybe Violet was just a frosty, supreme elite first year. In that case, Everly would be as snobby as needed.
Also, she really liked the name Violet.
Violet-and-her-sharp-jabs brought Everly back to reality. "Oh yes," Everly said, scanning the book to recollect the ingredients and supplies needed for this class's practice. "Would be great if you also did just a teeny bit more to help, though," Everly muttered again, but this time even quieter. While Violet-and-her-sharp-jabs did really annoy Everly and while she would love to spend the rest of the class responding, she was right about one thing. They did need to focus if they wanted to pass this class.
Which was great, because Everly remembered that Violet-and-her-sharp-jabs bothered her quite a lot.backdated to february 2021.☆

banner by Henry Llewellyn@Everly Charlton"Of course. I was starting to wonder if you were done staring. Not that I blame you, naturally, I'm such a great thing to look at."
Violet stopped staring at Everly after she said that, feeling quite embarassed. She hastiy looked at her feet, without saying a waord and then kept reading her potions book. It was one of the few times in which she couldn't find any other words to shoot back at someone, maybe this time because Everly was indeed very pretty. Or because she was intimidating somehow.
After Violet did shoot another sharp comment at the Gryffindor and her p[artner replied, Violet was starting to become more angry than intimidated. Indeed, being told that she wasn't doing anything wasn't something she enjoyed. "For your information, I'm trying to keep us informed about what we are going to do by reading this book which has all the instructions we need." she said in a fast and harsh whisper.
"Now, lets see...aha, here it is. The Babbling Beverage! After we finish it, I wonder who will be the unfortunate person to test it?" Violet said after switching pages of the poor overly used book till she found the page that she was supposed to open for the lesson. Indeed, when she commented in a matter of fact way about who would test the potion, it was only to provoke Everly, to see if she thought Violet was talking about her.
After reading the instructions of the book, she started giving Everly instructions: "Now Everly, instead of wasting our time, we should start the potion once and for all. It says in this book that we should brew 500ml of water for 20 minutes~ please do that while I remove the traces of the Alihosty leaves."
Now her voice had turned not into a scolding manner, but into something more like the voice of a tutor. That was not something Violet did on pourpose. She had taken the habit of talking in a instructive way while in class, or telling someone what to do. A normal student that hadn't been forced to study 24/7 in a manor before Hogwarts would have talked diferently, alas, Violet was unfortunate enough to have been born into a strict family that used that kind of voice all the time.

-───────────────────────────Ha. Something had finally gotten under her skin.
A rush of pride and relief shot through Everly at the reaction she had gained. Maybe Violet wasn't as bad as she had originally thought. In fact, Everly sort of felt bad now. Just a tiny bit though, but maybe there was something that made Violet this way or -
Violet-and-her-sharp-jabs resurfaced, scratching all previous thoughts from Everly's mind. "Certainly," Everly responded, eyes still focused on the supplies out in front of her, scanning for anything that was missing. Just in case. "Not like you could've done anything more just to help. Definitely not." Violet's voice had lowered significantly, which made Everly think that she too was scared of being overheard and possibly getting marked off for that. Which made Everly think she could use that to her advantage... maybe.
What was she thinking, anyways? Everly needed to focus on this stupid potion.
"No wait wha - I mean, oh - I volunteer! Unless you want to try?" Violet's next words were definitely meant to try to scare Everly, but Everly refused to let it scare her. If Violet did catch Everly's slipup though, her face would burn, and she would glare stubbornly at the ground, focusing on what she was doing (which was double checking for the triple time, because apparently she and Violet liked talking quite a lot).
Violet then decided it was a good idea to boss Everly around. First Everly double checked to make sure Violet's instructions were correct - you never know - then she decided it was a good idea to bicker further with Violet. "Why don't I do the leaves thing, and you brew the water? After all, I'm sure you're better at watching water than I am."
The leaves thing. Everly was definitely prepared.

banner by Henry Llewellyn@Everly Charlton"Why are you so difficult Everly?! I'm giving you instructions. Unless someone in here enjoys reading and understanding this potions book, finish brewing this please." Violet said impatiently. She was starting to lose her patience with the Gryffindor girl, which was probably why she had forgotten to give her more instructions and left her there watching the water bubble. Unless Violet wouldn't come back to her ground, Everly would have been looking at her cauldron forever. "Oh, wait~ you also have to, uh, add the dried billywig stings to the brew....it says it here, sorry I forgot." her voice dropped to a inaudible whisper as she pronounced each word uncertainly. She didn't want to seem like a idiot in front of her Potions partner, and she certainly looked like one.
When Everly volunteered to try the potion, Violet smirked slightly but afterwards hid her smile right away. She could only think of a cold frase to shoot back at her, "At least that will give you some motivation to do everything I tell you right, don't you think?" she responded. "Who knows what effects it will give if we do even one single mistake?"
When Everly showed that she wanted to remove the traces of the Alihosty leaves, Violet was already done with them. However, it seemed like Everly didn't want to sit down and relax. Like Violet, she wanted to shine a bit more than just brewing water. "Because I don't think that you know how to remove traces, do you?" Violet wasn't waiting for Everly to say anything. She just gave her the knife and halfly worked-in leaves in a cutting board to the Gryffindor, and left her to do the work. "Let's see if you really know what you want."

-───────────────────────────Because you're being annoying and making you annoyed is fun, Everly wanted to say. Of course, if those words ever did come out of her mouth, she would assume - no, she knew that not only would Violet get mad, but it would pretty much ruin today's class. Exactly - YOU'RE giving the instructions. Stop acting like you're so high and mighty - you're just as low and high as everyone else here. Maybe one day Everly would make Violet see that. But for now, she could assume that Violet was as dimsighted as all the other snobby purebloods that families like hers - both Everly's and Violet's - were assumed to act like. And while Everly certainly wasn't, Violet lived up to their standards.
Good for her.
Everly turned her head slightly so Violet wouldn't and couldn't see her smirk; Everly didn't need more things ruining today than it had already been done. Taking the dried billywig stings, Everly would add them to the brew, like Violet had so wisely and with such excellence remembered to do so. With raised eyebrows, Everly would turn to Violet, dusting off her hands. "Thanks for remembering. Late, anyways." Everly didn't care how cliche that insult was, all she was happy about was the fact that she didn't mess up. Violet did, so that wasn't her problem.
Everly would quirk her head, looking toward Violet with raised eyebrows. "Don't you think a direct sabotage of a fellow student would be quite the story? And here I was thinking you weren't that kind of person." Everly wouldn't be the one to mess up, that was for sure.
Violet handed her the knife and leaves immediately upon request. Suspicious. Was Violet waiting for Everly to mess up? Well, in that case, Everly wouldn't. Have fun watching the water. Puffing up her chest, somewhat proud of herself, Everly would handle the knife and leaves as she should, cutting and slicing as instructed. "Remember to keep stirring counterclockwise," Everly would remind Violet, once again reminding her that this annoying thorn in her shoulder wasn't gone yet. Everly would get under Violet's skin - one day.february 19, 2021☆

banner by Henry Llewellyn@Everly CharltonViolet kept stirring the potion she and her supposed to be Gryffindor partner that wasn't cooperating at. all. The Slytherin first year was becoming more annoyed as well as annoying overtime while the clock of the potions classroom kept ticking endlessly. She had never felt so pressured to end this class ever, but the presence of Everly was extremely pressuring, her natural lively nature made Violet anxious and her hands more sweaty over the potion that she was stirring.
Violet rolled her eyes at the Gryffindor once again, as the Lioness' sarcasm rose by the minute. Violet wasn't happy that Everly didn't really linger to her instructions. Well she did do what Violet asked, however she wasn't scared or intimidated by her in any way, which ffrustrated her. On the other hand, this could be a blossoming friendship... or a blossoming fight againt each other.
''Can you remind me when I sayed anything of the sort?'' the Slytherin asked when Everly mentioned sabotaging a student. ''Is that maybe a idea you have...to, uh, I don't know, maybe sabotage a student yourself?" she raised her eyebrows as she smirked at her, trying to give Everly some intimidation for once. If Violet tried harder, she could maybe make it one day. Intimidating the Gryffindor was now in her bucket list, and she would succeed, someday.
When Everly reminded her to stir counterclockwise, she glared once again, her face reddening. "Everly, if you think you are so intelligent, you should shut up." she rolled her eyes as she told her that coldly, rolling her eyes and shaking her head. Their talk kept becoming more harsh, their whispers would be overheard at any given moment.
When the potion was ready, Violet flipped her brown hair with satisfaction. Looking at Everly in the eyes, she poured some of the concoction into a glass phial. "I did most of the work and stirring, you should test the potion now. Also, make sure that everything is okay and that we followed the instructions well, you dont want to die. Thought seeing you choke on it wouldn't be that bad..."

Drip. Drip. Drip.
The Slytherin really was testing Everly's patience.
Everly rolled her eyes. She really, really wanted to hurl a thousand more insults back at the girl's smug face, but she would resist. Everly had never before observed how long a minute was until now, and she couldn't wait for the minutes to tick by. It was tempting to tell Violet to scoot over so Everly could take the reins and actually complete this potion correctly, but Everly would once again resist. Violet herself seemed to want to do the exact same, which was interesting enough to the point where it was infuriating. But Everly would resist.
One finger twitched slightly at Violet's response. Was she intimidated? At least she didn't think so. Just a bit appalled. She pressed one hand to her chest, gasping in mock shock, as if the very idea Violet was prompting was absurd. "Me? Do such a thing? Of course not," Everly said, with a little gasp for show. Everly would make a fine actress, if she did say so herself. "At least, I know I couldn't do such a thing. I can't say the same, for you, however," Everly said, looking up to tilt her head and smile at Violet sympathetically. Before Violet could remark on Everly's 'lack of focus', Everly decided it was a better idea to get back to work.
At Everly's gentle (at least she thought) reminder, Violet's face would turn a very delightful and satisfying shade of red, one that Everly had experienced some times before. "Actually," Everly said, "with my superior wisdom, I'd rather not. Just in case you somehow mess up, you know? Like you just -" Everly could tell when she had gone too far, though, and while she loved prodding the Violet statue, she also knew that they were supposed to be 'partners'. "Never mind," Everly muttered instead.
They were done.
Finally. Everly sighed in bliss. Now her hard work would pay off, and she could relax as she smirked smugly when the professor would -
Everly sent Violet a funny look. "Who said I'd try it?" Everly asked, suddenly feeling a bit defensive. She had, but only jokingly. "And you wish me dead? How atrocious," Everly said, this time more humorous than anything.
If at all, Everly was quite proud of her acting skills.
