"Yeah, I know; funny name, isn't it? A lot of musicians seem to enjoy names like that. Same with ones like 'Dirty Heads' or 'Barenaked Ladies'." Kit snickered along with Kels. "Good music, though."

He considered the nurse's comments regarding how not being one's true self wasn't always a matter of what one wanted. He supposed that was true; that maybe there were other factors keeping them from being the way they were naturally. Society, for one thing. Perhaps he was missing more.

Kels' own idea of what the lyrics meant caused Kit's grin to broaden. "That's a good point. You're probably right. I like that interpretation; never thought of that before."

The way Kels perked up when the caretaker mentioned things that pissed him off did not escape Kit's notice, but he was not asked about them so he didn't go into detail. Still, he couldn't help being amused nevertheless. If the nurse actually happened to figure out or stumble upon those few things that actually got under the caretaker's skin, well...he'd deal with them when he had to. For as often as Kit got under other peoples' skin, his own pet peeves were highly sought out but seldom discovered. It was a sort of game in its own way.

The idea that a romantic relationship was a job for a puppy caused Kit to burst out laughing. He laughed until he was clutching his sides and put his face in his hands to try to recompose himself.

"Hahahaha...yeah...maybe so," he gasped once he'd sucked back enough air into his lungs to speak again, "But I guess...there isn't the emotional depth with puppies that there could be in a romantic relationship with a person. That's why there's a separate thing called 'puppy love', I imagine." he answered, shrugging.

His conversation partner's awed whisper at his response about why he wanted to draw Kels caused Kit to chucke again, feeling as though he could never tire of the nurse and his behaviors. "Hehehe...well...I wouldn't know unless I tried, but I think probably," he answered when asked if he might already be able to mimic Kelsey's appearance. "You really do fascinate me, sweetheart."

He blinked at the term 'élan vital', obviously interested as he leaned forward again to rest his chin atop steepled fingers. The pride in Kels' voice made Kit smile automatically and he listened with rapt attention. Then he raised his head to nod slowly.

"Perhaps that vitality of yours is connected to your innate magical ability. Or, who knows? Maybe it could be considered a sort of magic on its own. I know I certainly see it that way." He tipped his head.

"That 'élan vital' of yours sounds about right. The fact that that force of living things can't be calculated or diminished makes it all the more interesting to me to try to capture it on paper. It's like trying to...hmm. To describe an abstract concept in another language. You never know if it'll translate or come across the way you mean it to, but it's fun to at least try." Kit chortled at Kels again. "As for not understanding a lot about life - that's part of the fun, isn't it?"

Pleased as to how the evening was going, the swarthy man was admiring the twinkle in blue eyes when he was caught somewhat off-guard by a new topic. His own eyes seemed to light up then and he sat a little straighter in his chair, bringing his legs up to criss-cross them in front of himself.

"Hmm...that I do," he murmured, gaze growing a little distant as he received into his thoughts a bit. "Not that I resign myself to any particular religion or anything like that, but I do believe that we have souls. Why?" Kit raised a brow teasingly. "Do you?"

After what had been a very minor bump in the conversation, which turned out to be no problem after all, the whole night continued to be as nice as could be. He hadn't even really had time to internalize how absolutely wild it was that Kit was a metamorphmagus, because there were a million things he wanted to talk about. He wasn't sure what it was in particular that made Kit so easy to talk to, but it had to have something to do with how equally interested in knowing and learning new things he was. Curiosity and interest were things people too often let die in themselves after the honeymoon of childhood. Not that they were the killers themselves, it sometimes took lots of rebellion and tenacity to keep it alive.

That was part of what interested Kels about Kit's perspective on relationships. Personally, he found being in one to be fairly similar to having a dog he loved, but more complicated and with a ton more hidden expectations and rules. Kit seemed to equate romantic relationships with emotional depth... he tried to imagine a dog with emotional depth, and how that might then make them viable for platonic romance. He didn't get it.

"What's t'difference? Everyone has emotional depth, loving yer mum isn't romantic." He didn't expect Kit to have all the answers, but he was curious to know what he thought. "Kissin', cuddlin', emotional depths... when's lovin' a friend turn into romance?"

To Kels' question about his ability, he admitted he wasn't all the way sure. When he called him sweetheart again he grinned and kicked him playfully. "You fascinate me too, Zassy." He said, being sure to say the word in his hoitiest of toits. "Sorry I can't turn into you or draw you. Or cook you dinner. In fact, I don't got much skills asides from healin'."

On the subject of élan vital, Kit had a lot to say, pulling another tired chuckle out of Kels when he called it a magic of its own. For wizards, it was hard to see what all magic was capable of and still hold onto any mystique for 'other' kinds of magic. Namely, the kind of magic muggles talked about in poetry when describing the look in someone's eye. Kels' mum also believed she could do magic, even though she had no innate ability that was quantifiable. Sometimes, he even believed her.

"Hmm... or, like, it's that vitality in you which makes'ya feel the urge to capture it." When he added the bit about not understanding life, he chortled along. "No way! I want to understand everything!"

The last topic was certainly what seemed like a veer in another direction, but there was a clear divide as far as Kels could tell in people. Those who had faith and those who didn't. Not in a religion or a god, but faith in something that they couldn't prove or ever know for certain. One of the easiest ways to note this difference was in the answer to that question-- a soul was an interesting concept. Arguably, lots of things that were physical could be accused of being a soul, some wixes even declared that dark magic corrupted ones' soul, or that ghosts and images of the dead were remnants of a soul left behind. That was just the name given to that essence of life that magic could manipulate, the idea of what one was often differed from the light that left a body when kissed by a Dementor.

"Yeah?" Kels said excitedly, before Kit immediately turned the question around. "Uh... well... hmm..."

Kels leaned back in his chair too, wrapping his arms around his sides as he hemmed and hawed. "Well, I dunno. I'm still decidin'. That's why I like'ta ask. I like knowin' what people think a soul is. You can have it removed, right? The ultimate punishment. Y'walk around like a zombie, but yer brain still functions. But..."

Kels tapped a finger on his chin, there was a lot to this conundrum that he had done extensive research on, but despite generally being belligerent of other people in conversation, he still didn't like to blab on in ways that left people in the dust. He didn't talk to other people just to talk to himself. "Well, if someone's brain is damaged severely, it can drastically change their personality overnight. Was their 'soul' damaged, can a 'soul' be removed from the brain?"

"Mmm." Kels grunted, undecided. "I like things I can measure. How about you?"
