Slim's eyes glinted at the words of the man below, of the last statement's boiling loathing. He was all too familiar with the emotion and accepted it readily from the Professor who seemed to desperately try to eradicate any emotion he may have behind his words.
"If such a fact is indeed the truth then it is a pity that most adults seem to ignore the children who see things clearer than those aged in society's chosen poisons." He eyed the teacher sharply, "It is rare to see one such as you to be aware of humanity's festering, to be opposed to it. If you are so passionate about the subject, then why not do something about it?" He cocked his head to the side, "Or do even adults, who have been promised to be freed from the chains of those who wish to control them, still trapped?"

His tone rang coldly, eyes becoming rather steely with his words. His gaze echoing with faint scorn at such a fact. "If that is true, then I suppose my prediction of humanity marching toward its own destruction is more probable than it first seemed. If even those who are supposed to lead upcoming generations to a brighter future cannot fulfill their promises, then truly I do not see why we still even hope for a hint of this cycle being broken."

His fingers twitched, tone dark as he turned back to the stars, back to the beings that are so indifferent to the suffering of humanity, in such a way that Selim wished he could be.

The echoed comment spoken by the man brought his focus back to reality, or what little of it he could be aware of. "Your caution is appreciated." Aku snorted.

The next response grabbed at the boy's focus, causing him to look back, back at the monster that he feared, yet wished to study more as they continued speaking, his curiosity morbid. He observed the staff memeber as he responded in kind to Selim's metaphor, there was pondering in his eyes as he noted what tones he could decern from the flat words the man spoke.

"Have you truly moved from your past cage? Or have you merely stepped a single foot out of it and deemed that enough? The mistake is easy to make, for the perception of one's life can truly be distorted so easily. One swiftly becomes compliant with habits they dare not release from their grip." Selim suddenly felt the need to pace as he clawed idly at his neck, a burst of sudden erraticism taking a hold of him that he tried to smother, now was not the time to feed his demons.

His gaze snapped down to the man who finally addressed his splintered character. Aku chuckled, and Selim frowned. He wasn't sure how he should address the question, he had already revealed much more than he intended in face of the smothering presence of the imposing professor.

Selim shifted in discomfort at the added paranoia addling his overstressed mind, oversaturating his already-constant terror that haunted his thoughts. He let out a breath, ignoring his unhealthily pounding heart that tried desperately to keep up with his perceived danger.

"Not a person, just a distorted reflection of myself given life..." He said lowly, Aku's cruel amusement pulsed in the back of his mind, toxic tendrils having long since taken hold.

The unstable boy looked at the sky for the last time from his lofty perch, and slowly slid down, dropping lithely onto the balcony, slowly he rose to his feet, a good, but a useless distance away from the towering man. He tried to keep his breathing even as it tried to hitch into the familiar urge of hyperventilation. His paranoia had finally reached him even when he was a good few feet above the man, there was no longer a point to linger in the shrouded night since the man could easily drag him back down to the ground if he so wished. So now in the faint light of the torches flickering inside the building, his condition was more clearly visible.

Pasty skin glistening with feverish droplets of cold water, festering wounds, unhealthily thin frame, and amber eyes seeming even deeper shrouded in their sockets thanks to the shadows. A walking corpse with a grungy puppet perched on his hand, glistening with carved ivory teeth.

Perhaps a ridiculous sight to some, or perhaps an unnerving one, either way, it was a surprise he was still standing, moving, for he looked on the brink of death.

His gaze locked onto the professor with a feral wariness born of years having to fear those older than him, having to always watch his step unless he wanted pain brought upon him. A boy how had been backed into a corner for far too long, who had splintered and broken as a result.

He shifted deeper into the shadows in a skittish fashion, on the brink of running once again from his terror.

Mutely, he regretted leaving Deathmote's side that night. His craving had been sated, and he now deeply regretted daring to leave the safety of the dungeons for such a pathetic wish.

Terrible Presence in effect.
| Aura of Unease Present |
“Rare does not equivocate impossible.” The Seer replied. “Chains evolve, become faint. Invisible. Lighter to carry, used to the burden, but present. Nothing is promised until the alleged vow comes to pass.” He turned his wand in his hands. Curious, adventurous, taming chestnut. Powerful, bonding snallygaster. “One voice does not cut through the storm. It waits for the moment to be heard fully.” But then when did the waiting end and the action begin? A storm whipped up with frothy waves always replenished from below, when there were only a few limited, lingering ships torn ragged as they fought against merciless foam. Be destroyed, and those few ships would have none to replenish their ranks.

“I have no doubt that humanity and wizard kind will someday implode upon themselves. Perhaps all that can be asked for is to have the honor of watching it collapse. I, for one, will not mask my distaste by pretending that there is a blazing hope to be had. It is a dying ember, growing colder and colder.” Macbeth vanished into the Forest. “I will not perpetuate the sins of predecessors, yet neither shall I shelter the flame. Let these things end as they will, if end is what is meant to be.” Brows creased once again, pale fingers tapping the ledge of the observation deck as he continued to sit motionless at the sheer edge. A touch of this sentiment was derived from experience with his experiences with the weave of fate; do not affect what you cannot change, lest more damage come of your actions. Be an observer, wiser than most, change what you must, foresee what is most important. Watch. Witness. Attest.

“Never enough.” The Seer shared in response to Selim’s query. “There is always more to pursue, more to be gained. Not greed, but most assuredly a craving for more.” Ambition, a poisonous motivation at times, but an effective one when the moment came for it. “One cannot begin a journey without a first step, but I concur; to some, one step satiates them too early. It is my interest not to stumble into that exact pitfall.”

A reflection given life was what the boy had finally responded. So, the child was indeed speaking to himself. That in and of itself was no cause of shame; in many cases, it took one’s own voice to reassure the mind, and in other times, in even the most useless of circumstance, it at least offered a different perspective, a different thought. It was the same as the Seer speaking to his owl, but these pair of voices were different. From what he had heard thus far, it was not a relationship of comradely or collaboration outside of reinforcing the darker aspects of the conversation held thus far. Leonardo did not offer verbal acknowledgement, only nodding once slowly before turning away again.

A small sound of movement, silent even as the boy landed on the Observation deck a small ways away from where the Seer continued to sit. Leonardo looked on at him as Selim stood, unmoving as the boy’s body became more visible. Leonardo doubted that his fragile and weak self could have climbed up after the child, so it was good that at least that part of the chore was over. Turning to face Selim slightly, just so that he could see the entirety of the observation deck, Leonardo looked the boy over. The wounds, plausible flagellations, that he had seen from below he could see in the torchlight better, far deeper and more prolific than he had first thought, pale, shaking, a corpse walking. It was almost pitiable, and Leonardo could see why the boy would have wanted to be without constant pestering. There was reason. Reason backed action. The reason the Seer himself was slightly underweight, who didn’t sleep regularly or tried to avoid human contact at any given moment.

The dull expression that Leonardo bore was almost of weariness, and even with the light flickering across pronounced cheekbones and firm jawline, the pale eyes reflected little if any of the light, with dark shadows of sleeplessness surrounding them. Like clockwork, his head tipped of its own accord, observing the little will-o-the-wisp before him. It was the little purple piece of roughed fabric which drew his eyes next, and the glittering teeth within its fabricated maw. Was this related to the voices he had heard? “Impressive craftsmanship.” He noted the haphazard stitches. Off the cuff, almost altering the direction of the conversation.

The boy looked crouched, ready to run. Leonardo knew better than to engage. If lessons taught him by perturbed owls and unsettled cats during his school years had been any indication, no advancement should be made.

His wand was angled visibly away from the boy, towards a place adjacent to the door by which one would return to the classroom. Just as he had incanted on the night he had first met this boy, Leonardo spoke again; Ferula.”
Ferula Cast: WDC = Unknown
d20(14) + 17 = 31 (Success)
A stream of bandages flew from the tip of the chestnut, wrapping themselves around each other in a small bundle near Selim, to his right. “Whatever your intentions were of coming here, I hope you found what you were looking for.” He spoke evenly, replacing his wand in the cane. He nodded towards the bandages. “And if tonight is not the night you intend for the Reaper to claim his dues, then...” The Seer found himself twisting the clasp of his cloak, letting the statement dissipate in the night air. An offering of neutrality? Sympathy? A suggestion? Choice? “Consider your options. The loss of any who challenges what they have been told to believe without question is a devastation. As you said yourself, these tend to be a rare breed.”

The curve of a corner of the Seer’s mouth raised a touch. “Do you require an escort to your house dormitories?” Once again, obligated by nature of his current foothold did he mention this. Tonight had offered him much amusement and partially satiated intrigue. A part of the Seer almost didn’t want this strange encounter to end.

He listened mutely to the Professor's words, lacking motivation to really ponder them deeply. His hazy mind filtered the speech, shifting them into a distant tone, slightly muffled by the sound of blood rushing through his veins. Despite this, he did comment.

"So you have become apathetic to the world and those who suffer in its crevices." He mused. "Or at least complacent enough to it to not raise a finger to assist those in the depths unless convenient to you. Instead, you simply watch, hating what your seeing but doing nothing to change the channel." His tone was cold.

Upon landing on the observation deck, he watched the man examine him. It made him coil into himself like a stray cat crouching away from an approaching stranger. Fingers twitching, he nodded at the compliment, sallow skin feeling eerily bare of any protection, vulnerable.

He could no longer tolerate a metaphorical mask, it was not enough. Mutely he decided to stop by the library and search for a book on how to make masks, then, he could create something to shield his visage from the view of those around him.

He flinched at the sight of bandages floating toward him, stepping back and observing as they piled on the ground. Slowly he crept forward once again, gathering them up. Instead of applying them, the boy simply methodically rolled them up for easier transport and dropped them in his pocket.

The last words of the adult were met with a blank face, tired eyes showing no hint of accepting his words of recommendation. His gaze slowly drifted back over the edge of the tower, glinting strangely. "I will consider it." He said dully but was mostly distracted by thoughts of making masks. Masks would shroud his haunting visage, perhaps then no one would look at him as if he were already dead.

"I do not require an escort." He spoke blankly. He knew his way around the castle, for he had roamed it before, and often. Besides, he no longer slept, or lived, in his dormitory.

The boy stepped back inside, eyes roaming the torches, stomach nauseated at the scents that were meant to calm. His gaze shifted to the homework he had placed on the man's desk, thoroughly checked through by his own eyes upon finishing, writing shakey with exhaustion.

His gaze shifted to the stairway leading down, fingers twitching at the weariness that would come with descending them. He hesitated slightly, swaying as a bought of lightheadedness, but righting himself upon its passing. He jerked at the sound of whispers returning as his mind became vulnerable without focus once more. Figures skittered in the room's shadows, his hues blankly following their movement.

He took a breath, knowing the ridges of his ribs pushing against his thin skin would be briefly sighted under his threadbare white shirt.

He should linger no longer.
