The Corridors were not frightening. They were guarded by non-living armored knights, cleaned by the caretaker, and lit by torches on the walls. So why, then, was a brunette Hufflepuff girl a heap on the ground, crying beside one of those knights? Simple. She was lost. But not only was she lost in the corridor, she felt lost in the school. She was small, quiet, and frightened.

Melody wasn't usually one to be so afraid that she would sob a puddle on the ground, but she was alone. She was lost, and didn't have anyone to find her. She had no siblings that went to Hogwarts, her parents had graduated, and her many cousins were all too young to go. She was just alone in the dark castle, alone and scared.

The feast had already started, Melody was sure of it. She had no watch, but as she counted the bricks on the wall across from her, she thought she could hear laughing and the clanking of dishes. She felt oh so lonely, and her robes fanned out around her on the ground, cold bare feet sticking out on the floor. She wiped her eyes with her sleeve and felt there was no use in worrying anymore, eventually someone would have to find her here. Eventually.

Melody almost wished the knights pressed against the walls were real. If they were, she thought as she examined the one she leaned against, she wouldn't have to be lost. They could find her way out. But of course, they were just hollow bodies of armor that looked impressive as decoration. They wouldn't really help.

There were times when Melody regretted what she had done the time before. Like when she was five, and accidentally lit her hair on fire. When she was eight, and dropped her mother's freshly baked pie for Thanksgiving. But this one was probably the one she regretted the most.

Melody had been exploring the empty classrooms, seeing what was inside. She had the incomplete map that a friend had given her and she kept looking up and down at it as she passed another door. That was when she reached the end of where the map went. She had been fine, heading back through the dark with the part of the map that was finished, until, that was, when the map had blown away and slipped under the crack of the door.

Now, Melody was lost without a map, without a friend, and without a guide. Lost without being found. Her bag was slung over her shoulder, and she pulled out an extremely weathered looking journal with yellow stained pages and blots of ink covering the front. She opened up to the middle of the book, where she had gotten so far, and began to write.

[font=Kaufmann Bd BT]It was unsatisfyingly dirty. Cobwebs littered the stands of armour. Dust rested upon each iron plate as if the metal sheen was home. The only source of light was the occasional torch, which flickered and threatened to set the place on fire.

There was a light swishing as the hem of Suzuki's robes brushed the dusty floor. A slight shuffling of the boots. She wasn't used to the robes- they were like weird dresses, almost, and moving in the garment wasn't the easiest thing to do. Suzuki knew she should stop thinking about complaining and get used to it- robes would what she'd be wearing for the next seven years.

Or more.

Eye twitching at the dustiness of the place, Suzuki kept her eyes peeled for anything peculiar or interesting. After all, this was the magical Hogwarts, wasn't it?
She'd escaped from the colossal dinner place on purpose- it was way too loud and messy for her to stay in. Hogwarts was definitely a different atmosphere- different from anything she'd ever known. Squinting at the dusty knights in all their glory, she listened to the vague sound of the dull grey sheets of armour, sound vibrating off them. Apart from her synesthesia transforming colour into sound, nothing else made a sound. Her boots only made a slight whispering sound (mousy light grey- like a cloud) as they brushed against the floor- there were no other natural sounds around.

After wandering around the corridors for some time, Suzuki stopped as she watched a pinpoint of colour growing larger from down the hallway. She squinted. There was nothing- but synesthesia had never disappointed or lied to her before.

*何が一体?

Cautiously, Suzuki approached the colour. Mistake.

She stopped, about less than an inch away from another girl's nose. Suzuki backed away a little (a little- mostly to show she wasn't startled or afraid), and then some more.

At least she hadn't tripped.
*何が一体 basically means 'What the heck', or 'What the hell is that' in Japanese

There was a noise like the swishing of a curtain from the corner and Melody looked up to see another girl right in her face, looking back at her. She yelped and ducked away, tears stopping from the sudden startle. She lined up against the wall with her arms pressed against it and looked at the girl.

At a first glance, Melody could guess the girl was either a first or second year. She wore robes as well, but she wasn't crying on the ground. Melody rubbed her reddened nose hastily with her sleeve, she didn't want to look like a sniveling first year. It was a bit too late for that, though, for that was exactly what she was.

"W-who-?" Melody started, voice thick from the crying.

Even with the map now gone, Melody could feel a bit of hope rising in her chest. If this girl was friendly, she could possibly help Melody get back to the Great Hall. If she wasn't, well, she didn't want to think of what would happen then. All she knew was that there was a strange girl in front of her, and she was lost in the middle of a dark hallway.

Melody cleared her throat and stood up on shaky legs. She held one hand behind her back, holding her wand, although that wouldn't be very helpful, she only knew one spell. And she seriously doubted that knowing how to turn a whistle to a watch would help if this girl didn't want to help her.

"Are you coming from the feast?" asked Melody. She hoped the girl wasn't a ghost. She had had enough experiences with ghosts recently, with them floating around and going through her. She had been gone through by a ghost more times than she could count, and didn't want to add another number to that.

[font=Kaufmann Bd BT]The girl she'd almost rammed into (face first!), seemed to just have been crying. Pinkish eyes and a reddish nose- verdicts of the disease just been crying. Stepping back again, Suzuki gauged the girl as a Hufflepuff.

Through a just been crying voice, the red-nosed girl stuttered out a 'who'.

You, Suzuki wanted to say. She held it back. After a few more scans, Suzuki decided this girl was probably someone who'd gotten lost on accident, not someone who'd strayed away on purpose.

Lost. Yep. It was pretty dark in the hallway, so Suzuki fished her wand out of her robes, and muttered, "Lumos."

A dim but substantial light flooded the hall. Suzuki made sure not to overdo it. A little brighter, and she thought the whole world could probably see the two. They probably weren't supposed to be here. Only offering the light, Suzuki made no attempt to help the girl up. The girl helped herself up instead. That was good. Suzuki didn't want to deal with a crybaby right now- she wasn't in the mood to.

Honestly, though, she never was in the mood to deal with a crybaby. It was mutual- crybabies never wanted to deal with her, either. Turning again to scan the perimeter of the hallway, Suzuki determined that there were no other humans around (except for the girl, of course), and directed her attention back to the area in front of her.

"Yeah." It was the truth- she was, in fact, coming from the feast, although Suzuki didn't know if she was more coming, or running. With that little bit out of the way, Suzuki studied the face of the girl. Human enough.

She decided to go a step further than she probably should've.

"You alright?"
