On the bright side - the Gryffindors had done what Callista had expected. On the other hand - Lamik's aim was surprisingly good. Although it hadn't all been up to his skill - the first year was also partly to blame. Perhaps something had caught her eye, caused her feet to falter, and the next thing she knew, a force of blue light spiraled into her hip. The force was greater than she expected, having never been in a real duel before. True to its name, the spell forced her to stumble backwards a few steps. Ow.

It was a shame Alexa's spell had missed... but hopefully, this time one of their spells would land. Trembling slightly from the impact, Callista glanced at her partner, as if trying to send a mental message to remember their strategies. Inhale. Focus. Exhale. Cast.

The duel was gaining momentum rapidly. While a moment ago, only one of three spells had found its mark, now all four duellists were casting, and most of them aimed true.

@Alexa Mackenzie's first spell had missed, but that didn't keep her from trying again, switching from flames to the pure power of a Knockback Jinx. Her wand was aimed again at the only boy on the stage, but again, he proved elusive, stepping out of the way. She hadn't missed by much, but that was likely not much comfort.

Where both lions had sent their first spell after the first year Hufflepuff, this round, they split targets. @Raine Sage had felt guilty for failing to hit, and vowed to do better this time, and she did. With a swish of her wand, she conjured a blindfold that just a moment later snugly wrapped around Alexa's head, covering her eyes securely. If she didn't get rid of it soon, it would mark her an easy target for the Gryffindors.

Next to Raine, @Lamik Fillestar had not switched target or tactics. It seemed he was determined to take Callista out of the duel quickly, and sent another powerful Knockback Jinx after the girl, who did not have much of a chance of dodging his aim. This time, it hit her shoulder, which likely hurt no less than the last one: Indeed, she was already looking to be in rather bad shape.

But she would not go without fighting back. @Callista Lovis had previously focused on dodging - wisely so - but now seemed determined to repay Lamik for his powerful Knockback Jinxes. But not in kind. Instead, she had chosen a spell that in previous stages had turned the tide for more than one duel, the infamous Curse of the Bogies. Dee recognised the shade of green that Callista's wand produced instantly, and winced slightly when Lamik did not manage to step aside in time. And yet... she wondered if it would prove as effective. Many people had done special training to prepare for this curse in particular, and these days, it usually didn't manage to knock anyone out cold. Still: Callista hit, and Lamik would have a nasty cold to fight with for the minutes to come. He could probably feel it already, really, the slime clogging up his nose, a slight headache creeping in.

Lamik really had no idea what in the world Raine was apologizing for. She was doing great! Now that Alexa was temporarily blindfolded, things were going to be much easier. He was getting even more confident in their win, up until he was hit by the curse. "Not again..." He muttered as soon as he realized what he had been attacked with. This spell seemed to really like his duels, and he couldn't help but dislike it in return. Still, it didn't seem to have as bad of an effect as the last few times it was used. Maybe it was that training.

Her spell connected!! That boosted her confidence just a bit as she prepared to cast her next spell. She knew that her luck wasn't that good and that she needed to focus on her next move in order to help her teammate win this match. Then she saw him get smacked with that dreadful spell that she was always nailed with and she winced. Hopefully it wouldn't affect him as badly as it affected her the last two times, and hopefully they could finish this match before he felt the urge to pass out. But it looked at if he would be okay. Passing out wasn't in Lamik's immediate future from what Raine could observe.

So suddenly that it was almost violent, Alexa felt something wrap itself around her head, and she suddenly couldn't see! For a moment, she almost panicked at her loss of sight, but then she reached up with one hand and felt around her face, finally coming across the blindfold. Knowing that she had limited time, she put her wand between her teeth and hastily began untying the blindfold from behind her head.

Lamik once again cast at Callista. This time, it was less shocking - probably because she had already experienced the sensation of the powerful blue light - but it was no less painful. In fact, she was feeling quite light headed already. Two Flipendos will do that to you.

This time, however, the first year got to experience the sweet satisfaction of hitting the older Gryffindor. Her professor's words of warning had ran through her head as she lifted the wand to cast, but she shook it off. Callista was aware that many people had specifically trained for the effects of Curse of the Bogies - herself included - but she knew that it would buy them some time.

Her partner's spell had missed again, only to be returned with Raine's blindfold. Callista winced, itching to help the older student, but she knew that Alexa could manage herself. Meanwhile, she needed to focus on their opponents.

The Gryffindors were wasting no time in this duel. While @Alexa Mackenzie was busy ridding herself of the blindfold that was tied around her eyes, both of the lions turned towards the same target: @Callista Lovis.

The Hufflepuff was having a rough go at her first duel, hit by spell after spell, and this time was no different. Perhaps she had focused her attention on @Lamik Fillestar, who had been responsible for the last two Knockback Jinxes that had battered her, and she did manage to avoid a third spell from the boy, but this came at a cost, because this time, he was not the only one aiming at her. @Raine Sage's Knockback Jinx was exceptionally powerful, a perfect cast if Dee had ever seen one, and her aim was true as well. Callista was able to cast one last spell, one last attempt at fighting back against the overpowering Lions across the stage, but it did not come close to hitting Raine. Instead, the third year's spell knocked into Callista, throwing her backwards. She was unconscious before she hit the ground.

Dee raised her wand, hopping onto the stage in a fluid motion. "Stop!" she called, making sure the three duellists paused in their casting so that the medics could take the Callista off the stage to receive medical attention. She didn't feel much pity for the girl - it had been a brutal first duel for her, but people knew what they signed up for here. She'd be alright in a bit.

Lamik was severely sniffling at this point, obviously not at his best, but he didn't seem in any immediate danger of dropping to the ground, so Dee just narrowed her eyes at him and then stepped back to the side. "Continue."

As Alexa whipped off the blindfold, finally, she felt a spell flash past her. Her head spun around to track the spell that had passed right by her… And it hit Callista! Alexa cried out as her partner flew through the air and landed heavily without moving. The moderator immediately called a halt to the duel, so they could remove her partner's unconscious body from the stage. Alexa grimaced as she was carried past… She looks so frail and pale.

As the moderator told them to resume, Alexa whipped around, feeling dread. She could not seem to hit her opponents at all, and now they would both be focused on her. With her wand arm forward, and the other behind her back, she crossed her fingers and prepared to cast another spell.

She was getting emotional. Internally, at least. Raine was flipping ecstatic that she managed to cast two spells successfully and hit her opponents, but she felt incredibly saddened that her spell hit that little girl. This was a game, sure, and they all definitely knew what they were getting themselves into, but Raine never wanted to hurt a kid younger than her. Sadly, she also felt the need to win with her teammate.

So she took a deep breath, swallowed back the tears that appeared in her eyes as she watched the young Hufflepuff be carried out, and focused on the duel in front of her. But while she was focused on the duel, she had to wonder what exactly was the mental point of putting older students up against younger students.

A chuckle left Raine's mouth unwillingly as she thought about how a few second years kicked her ass with that blasted bogies curse though. So she knew that she couldn't sleep on Alexa. The girl would tear Raine apart if she didn't focus.

Unlike the other two duelists, Lamik didn't feel much pity for Calista. Sure, he didn't enjoy hurting others- in any situation outside of dueling (excluding those involving self-defense, of course) the thought would have been out of the question. He was, however, perfectly fine with it in the context of a moderated school duel. Defeated opponents would get treatment as soon as they needed it, after all. Along with that, anyone who signed up for the dueling team, including Calista, would surely know what it was that they were walking into. At least two people would have to get hurt before the game ended. From an ethical standpoint, it didn't matter whether it was him and his partner or his opponents. It was certainly possible that after the duel was done he would feel a certain amount of remorse, but currently, his only thoughts were those related to winning. Winning, and his runny nose.
