|| Wind Jinx @ Ana ||
Alan was caught by the wind for a moment, but it was no struggle for him this time as he knew what to do. He had been in the air for long enough to know exactly what he was doing and he had some practice as a chaser where he had to basically constantly fight a battle against the wind. However now the boy was sure that the all who was left had something to fight for. Serena was out of the game, having lost the struggle to stay on top of her broom and instead had fallen down. Alan would take this opportunity to find a new target and out of both the girls that were left, he had to say that Ana looked like the easier target. Sure physically she looked a lot stronger but Alan really did not want to mess with Xailah; he remembered her from the tag game where she had mercilessly hunted Pericles down after he had taken the victory from her. A grin would play on Alan's face as he thought back to that moment, but he would quickly shake his head and force himself to concentrate on possibly having to avoid an attack. With that in mind Alan would face Ana and cast the wind jinx, knowing that while not as damaging as Flipendo, it would force her to fight for the grip on her broom stick.

Though the emotions were running high, and the friends had all fallen low, the last remaining three were perhaps a bit too good on their brooms. In sports, they called this a stalemate. Three Gryffindors, a third year on the last legs of her stamina, and two fourth years with years of flying experience and built to last. All of them were accomplished spellcasters, and have proven to be quick to dodge and adapt to the game as it progressed, but against each other they were nearly evenly matched. None of them felt a particular need to protect the other, just three potential winners seeking the answer to the question: who was the best? Who would get bragging rights when this brutal game came to its conclusion?

As it stood, the answer was a complete mystery. Those who had awaken on the ground would likely have very little to determine who the best bet was. Each was determined and dangerous, each had a real chance of pulling out a victory. Their stamina and luck wouldn't last them forever though. Eventually one of those spells would hit, or a blast of wind would be too much for them to handle. Who are you placing your bet on?

How long had this game been going? Hours? Days? Months? It felt longer than a Quidditch game, although it was likely half an hour at most. Still, it seemed that the remaining three players were all intent on winning. Obviously, they were competent fliers and spell casters to have made it that far in the game, but it seemed that they were at something of an impasse. Ana couldn't seem to hit Xailah, she wasn't interested in hitting Alan at the moment, and neither of them had successfully landed a spell on her.

Twirling her wand lazily from one finger to another, she considered the best course of action. She had taken more hits than the other two remaining players, making her a prime target. Xailah was far too evasive for Ana's liking and even Ana recognized that doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results wasn't a sign of sanity.

No, she would have to approach this differently. For whatever reason, Alan didn't seem keen on eliminating the prefect. Ana just had to wait out one more person then land a spell successfully. Xailah hadn't shown any qualms about casting spells earlier in the match, although Ana couldn't remember the other Gryffindor going after Alan. Still, if Ana could avoid being hit until one of her opponents was eliminated, she'd be in a much better position than she was currently.

The spell from the other girl would trail by Xailah, as she dipped out of the line of fire. The spells glow left behind a tail of foggy blue, that quickly dissipated into the half-light. A questioning look from a golden glimmer, would be sent to the remaining boy. The darkling girl had half expected another spell to be sent her way- even moved in preparation- but found that there was not a second jinx to evade. Instead of grouping with the fiery lioness, the male had chosen to make her his target. Weren't the two supposed to be allies? Xailah could have sworn that there was some sort of mutual agreement between the two. Though it was possible that she had misunderstood their unwillingness to hit each other at the beginning of the game.

Xailah supposed evasiveness didn't exactly mean alliance. She herself had been evasive towards many during the game. Was she allied with any of those folk? Goodness no. Of course, it was possible that the other girl and Alan had an alliance, but it fell apart once the boy tried to make quick work of the girl. Or had it been the other way around? Who honestly knew anymore? The prefect absently scratched at the fabric around the wrist of her gloves, adjusting them for a more secure fit. As time dwindled away, she began to question the grip she had on her Moontrimmer. Hopefully she had time for a quick charm.

Alan was quite lucky that there was no spells coming his way, at least not yet. But he was sure that would change soon as there really was not much else that the other two students could do. Xailah and Ana were both quite powerful but Ana had already taken a bunch of hits, making Alan wonder whether it would be easier to just eliminate her from the competition first so that he would have one less person to worry about. The plan sounded good enough for now so without much thought Alan would cast a spell that he knew would at least not damage the girl but give her some troubles for a while. Soon enough he would cast "Indomitus" and aim it at the blonde, hoping it would hit the girl this time. She was a scary target and while Alan wasn't scared of her, he sometimes felt like her presence alone could make him second guess an action and he would rather not be robbed of the security he usually felt. "Don't take it personally, Ana!" he would call over through the wind, grinning lightly though he felt a little guilty targeting her for a second time without a break. Though he hoped she would take it as the compliment he meant it to be... in a way? After all he wanted to get her out of the game because he assumed that she would have an easy game outplaying him.

Ana falls off her broom.
The three started this round with tactical decisions. Now that it was down to the wire, each decision could make or break the deadlock. In this case, Anastasia figured that she was a target enough to start bobbing and weaving. She was an accomplished flier after all, just like her mother, so she looked like a blur in the sky. How was anyone expected to hit that?

Well, Alan was willing to step up to that challenge. Not daunted by his Quidditch team mate's impressive skills on the broom, he cast a spell that used her own strength against her. It barely... BARELY hit the tip of her broom. With Anastasia apparantly more focussed on riding than gripping, the jerking around motion of her mount no longer obeying her instructions would be more than she could account for. Away she went, down to the merciless ground below as a respectable third place.

Perhaps witnessing this tactic, or grown wise from the occasional strong gusts of wind, Xailah prepared herself for the final showdown in perhaps the most clever way possible-- securing her connection to her broom. Now one of her hands was fixed on her broom with magic, and it really could not have been cast more professionally. Only two left, then.

Lots could happen in the span of a few seconds. Xailah had taken one- a second- to secure her hold on her broom. "Inhaeresco." During this time, one of the three remaining Gryffindors competing for the title of 'winner', would be knocked from their broom. Instead of going for the most vulnerable, Alan sought out a moving target- possibly who he thought was a bigger threat in that moment. The leather-bound girl would become the prey of choice. Alans spell shot through the air like a bullet, slicing the accumulating suspense, and nicking the tip of Anastasia's broom. A nick was all that was needed. The reaction was almost instant- the broom began to buck and kick, like some sort of enraged wooden bull. It wanted its rider off.

And off she would be. It was a shame really, to see such a flame doused so quickly. Xailah watched the leather-swaddled cub drop into the night. And then there were two. When you find someone like yourself- someone different- there is always a desire to keep them around. Xailah had been reluctant to hit Alan early in the game- mostly because he had helped her to some extent, and partly because they were cut from a similar genetic cloth. The changelings were approaching the age where it was easier to identify more of their kind. Similarities and differences aside, Alan was still a stranger to Xailah. Mostly. He was unfamiliar enough, to where the lioness had no problem with raising a wand to him.

Alan was quite surprised when he managed to land a hit as he had planned to do. Quite frankly he had expected to take at least two more tries in actually landing a hit but he had managed to catch her broom just barely and it was all that was needed for the broom to work the charm. Alan cringed slightly as he watched her drop down and he remembered that Xailah this very moment would be warded against falling off her broom quite well. Knowing himself he knew it would be a challenge he was not willing to take just yet until he felt like the gripping charm she had taken as aid would loose its effect. Alan would therefore do what he could do best and just try not to get hit while their chances were still so very uneven. He was confident he could do this, the question was when was his moment to strike back?

There certainly was some worry, he knew too little about the other girl that he was not exactly sure whether she was a excellent dodger or just lucky. But the few moments with her had let him know that she probably wasn't easily tricked and a capable witch that he should worry about in this competition. Both of them shared the same fait of being the last two left but only one of them could be victorious.

Flipendo is a good spell, dodging is a good mechanic. I cannot say this round was un[predictable, but at the very least the two of them were not going to go wild just because the finish line was right in front of them. The two older Gryffindors didn't make it this far by flailing around wildly (I think), as this was the kind of school where it wasn't too difficult to get hands-on combat experience, not to mention flying experience. They were using charms that were sure to secure them the victory, I wonder how long it will take for them to hit each other? It might be a while, but I assure you, I shall see the winner of Shuntbumps. The other competitors at this moment were likely all conscious, if not helping each other heal up after their short fall. Most possibly, this was a particularly exciting part of the game, and there would be some hooping and hollaring from below as they danced to the finish.

A trail of light from a Flipendo that missed would descend into the nothingness surrounding the Quidditch Pitch. The light dimmed as it stretched further, reaching for the partitions of night. The light would soon fade altogether, as would Xailahs formerly secure grip on her broom. Alan had slid out of the spells line of fire. Well aren't you a slippery little thing? Maybe Xailah should have tried to get him out early on in the game instead of sparing him. His sudden aid should have been a red flag- a sign to chase him off of his broom right then and there. Damn that boy for being a nice person and a decent human being.

Tired fingers flexed around sanded broom wood. Each digit drummed down the length of wood in search for a new place to hold onto. An observant person could find the action as one of uncertainty- a clever one could understand that the tapping was something of an admittance. The gripping charm had worn off. She likely wouldn't have the time to cast a third one. She didn't need to give her opponent a window of opportunity anyways. Sighing through her nose, she would raise wand to the Gryffindor boy once again. Repetition was beginning to grow irksome. Xailah wondered if the boy could be persuaded to jump from his broom.
