Alan stood at the sort of duelling arena, waiting, anticipating. He was excited as he stood there, waiting for Group B to arrive to their duels. He knew smost of the duellists he had to spectate and oversee this fine day and Alan was sure each of them would do great and make their respective houses proud. Alan was wearing a hoodie with broad pockets at the front, allowing for a bunch of space. The pockets were bulging out slightly as a spotted tail swished back and forth every now and then. hinting at Tiger lounging within the pockets for the duration of the duel.

As both teams had finally found their spots non each side of the duelling platform, Alan gave a nod and a smile. "Welcome you four, I hope you are excited as well and will make your house proud this day!", he would greet them eagerly with a slight grin forming on his face. "Onto a fair duel, be sure to keep the rules and most importantly; enjoy!" he announced the start of the duel as he stepped back to give space to the duelists. He would watch over them to make sure everything would went on okay and was curious how each of the teams would open up their stage.

This was Elisabeth's first duelling championship. She was not excited, to be honest; she had signed up for the extracurricular activity not for glory, popularity, or even to practice her magical combat skills - and let us not talk about "for fun". Such a gentle and sensitive individual like Elisabeth was actually not cut out to be a duellist; however, she would like to meet more people to have more friends, and this club seemed like a good choice. After all, they had to work together in every duel. Forcing herself to smile at both her teammate Maria Dee and her opponents for the day, Celynne Gray and Mars T'ien, the Hufflepuff bowed like how she ought to before beginning a duel.

Ah, another round, another duel. It was time for more exciting, spell-filled combat between students. For Maria, this new round also meant a new partner. Elisabeth was in her year, although Maria hadn’t interacted much with her yet. Now they were dueling partners, and facing against two Ravenclaws. One of them looked older, and the other about the same age as her.

Dueling had not been kind so far for the young badger, her last two rounds ending in a loss against formidable opponents. However, it was a new dawn, a new day – probably not a new life, but she was indeed feeling good.

Hopefully fate would not make her feel otherwise.
@Elisabeth Erner | @Mars T'ien | @Celynne Gray

Tryna solve a problem like Maria.

Rolling her wrists and folding the sleeves of her robes back neatly, Cel stepped onto the stage, coming to a stop with a spin of her wand, a habit she'd unintentionally picked up from her partner—she wasn't the type to fidget with her wand all the time, but it helped to steady her hands right before a duel.

They'd gotten lucky so far, even after stumbling into their first duel with no plan whatsoever—Mars had clicked, their dueling habits just matched. Beyond that, both had also forced themselves through various methods of training—whether that was spells, accuracy, or practice duels—and also planning, which had won them the second duel. But who knew how each match would turn out until the end?

Speaking of her partner, Cel cast a glance at them as she flicked a braid behind her shoulder—she'd recently begun to braid the just the front of her hair back to keep it from getting in her eyes, she hadn't had a haircut in a while and it was getting harder to blow out of the way. "I trust that I don't have to ask if you're ready," she said dryly.

Another day, another duel. Mars could feel the shivers run their spine, twirling the stick of cherry wood between nimble fingers. It seemed especially light today, as if the wand itself was excited. Maybe it was. Didn't the wand maker say they had a mind of their own?

Stepping up to the piste, Mars bounced lightly on the ball of their feet. They felt good—really good actually. The room was sharper than it had been only a few months ago, the smell of sweat and magic tickling their nose. Glancing over to Cel, they laughed.

"Always am," they replied, winking. They turned to their opponents. Hufflepuffs, hmm? It was weird to see them on the field, but then again, every house had its own honor to defend. Flipping their wand up and sliding their legs apart, Mars flashed them a grin too.

"Try not to lose too badly!"

Alan was happy that the mood was somewhat on point for all the duelists as they got ready and greeted their teamed partners. The fourth year was sure that this was going to be interesting and watched the duelists work their tactics. As he watched both teams openings he was not sure which one he would deem more lucky. As Mars would cast a bubble-producing spell, he wand sputtered out bubbles wildly, that were out of her control as they manifested around her; surrounding her. They would obscure her vision a bit and would make dodging a difficult feat. However it looked like Celynne was redeeming her team mates mistake as she made the sleeve of Elisabeth's robes catch on fire. As the flames climbed higher up the sleeve they would leave a burning sensation, bringing a great deal of pain to the younger Hufflepuff.

A bright colorful light would spring from Elisabeth's wand and her target had seemed to be Celynne; the light of the spell seemed strong and powerful but her aim was off and thus the spell would crash into a unlit torch fastened against a wall in the back, that would start to violently shake in its hold. Maria would also go for a spell, a curse to be specific, that would miss its target and instead affect nothing. All in all, Alan would see that the only effects that were currently present were the painful flames and the self-inflicted wall of bubbles that would float about where Mars stood.

Two jets of light flashed towards her as she muttered an incantation under her breath, but both went wide, crashing into the wall behind her—the clanking sound of metal against metal shook, and she took the time to steal a glance: the torch was now clattering madly in its sconce. She hoped it would not fall over and set fire to the stage—she was doing enough arson as it was, the fire arcing out of her wand gracefully to stream right onto the sleeve of her target, almost elegant within her tight control, a sharp contrast against the conflagration that erupted from the robes set alight.

Her partner wasn't so lucky, unfortunately—Cel managed to spare a look to see how they were doing, just in time to watch the bubbles gather around them and wince. That couldn't be fun, but backfires were bound to happen sometimes. "All right there?" she called, her usual eloquence condensed as she turned back to their opponents, wand at the ready—this was not a time to waste her breath.

Mars felt the incantation leave their lips the second the energy ballooned outward and hit them right back in the face. They winced, ducking as the shower of bubbles spluttered out, covering a sizable radius around them. Of course. They had to backfire at least once, didn't they?

At least it hadn't been too bad of a spell. Curiously, they poked at one of the golden orbs, watching it float slowly away, clinking as it hit another of its brethren. They shifted their eyes up, looking for the other team, and realized there were about twenty golden bubbles distorting the view. Well, that was gonna be annoying.

Still, they smiled when Cel asked. "Peachy," they replied, pushing a few orbs out of the way, "I think it'll actually be a nice handicap." Finally creating a bit of a hole, they flashed a grin at the Hufflepuffs. One of them was on fire, and Cel was unscathed. "They kinda need it anyway."
