Ashley squeezed her way around the groups of students scattered in clumps throughout the corridors, careful not to bump into anyone. Class had just ended for the day, and her arms were full of piles of books that she couldn't quite manage to squish into her backpack. It had been an uneventful afternoon - nothing out of the ordinary. Ashley nimbly hopped around a laughing crowd of third years, keeping a firm grip on her books, as she continued down her trek. It was warm for a spring day, and the usually cold corridors felt a little warmer. Outside, green grass was beginning to poke through the winter dirt and blossoms and small leaves were popping up on many of the trees. The world no longer seemed to hold it's breath, bracing itself against cold winds and flurries of snow.
Ashley forgot to watch where she was stepping for a moment and her shoulder bumped into a boy, who mumbled something along the lines of mtxuhyfs before continuing on. Ashley shrunk back and whispered an almost silent sorry his way, but he was gone. Ashley sighed and hastily yanked her unruly mass of red hair back into a messy ponytail, pressing her back against the cool stone wall to avoid being trampled alive. While she loved Hogwarts, she didn't think she would ever get used to the sheer amount of students - at her old school, there were only about 300 children in the whole building, compared to the thousands here.
She sighed again and left her oasis at the wall. Just as she was jumping around yet another group of students, a piece of paper fluttered down and stopped right in front of her boots. Ashley quickly bent to pick it up. Charms notes. She looked around wildly, trying to locate the owner. Ashley knew she would freak out if she lost a whole page of notes. After a moment, she spotted a girl with curly dark brown hair a few yards away. Her bag was open slightly and a few pieces of paper and parchment were peeking out. Ashley ran up to her, holding out the notes.
"Hi. Um, I think you dropped these? They're Charms notes . . . " she stammered.

As I was walking around the hallway trying to get out of the way of hundreds of students walking up and down the halls in groups of people from all different houses until I bumped into a group of people just standing in the middle of the hallway "oh um I'm sorry" I said to the group of people "ay watch where your going next time" a guy standing in the middle of the group said back to me "uh okay don't be so rude next time" I said as I walked away trying to get out of the hallway as quickly as I could. So I started fast walking trying to get to the end of the hallway trying to get to a less crowded hallway so i could just explore hogwarts as it was only my first year. I then heard someone talking to me so I turned around to see who it was. It was a girl with orange hair as she told me that I had lost one of my papers "oh um thank you for returning it I'm surprised you were able to find me in this hallway crowded with people" I said with a little laugh at the end "um my name is Olivia, Olivia Ludwig what's your name?" I asked her hoping to make a friend as she seemed like a nice person!

Ashley smiled at the girl, Olivia, she had said. Ashley's people skills were definitely not her greatest strength - far from it, in fact - but she was willing to try to make small talk. Plus, this girl seemed nice and open, unlike the muttering boy she had slammed into in the corridors.
"Oh, I'm Ashley. Ashley Coulson Uh, you can call me Ash. Most people do. Because Ashley sounds kinda . . . formal and um . . ." Ashley broke off. She could feel a warm blush creeping up her cheeks. Why did she always have to act so awkward around people she had never met? Most people weren't like this.
Ashley closed her eyes briefly, trying to regain her composure and hoping that Olivia wouldn't notice how odd she was behaving. Which, unfortunately, didn't seem very likely considering the fact that her cheeks were probably as red as her hair, if not redder. Ashley stopped hoping that the girl wouldn't notice and started hoping that she wouldn't take it personally. Because it wasn't personal.
Ashley cleared her throat and tried again. "It's pretty warm out today. It's a nice change. From the . . snow. And wind." She scooted to the side as an older student lumbered past and cringed slightly. She was talking to olivia about weather?! She supposed it was better than rambling about etymology or something, but still. Ashley shifted on her feet and waited for Olivia's response.

The girl said that her name was Ashley but most people call her Ashley. As I kept moving sideways to make sure I didn't bump into anybody while standing in the middle of the hallway talking to Ashley. As Ashley was talking she looked kind of nervous but I couldn't tell that much. After a couple minutes of standing there Ashley started talking about the how the weather was at first I confused on why we were talking about weather but I thought it was most likely to break the awkward silence that had happened. After she finished I said "yeah it is pretty nice out today! I don't really like the cold that much" I said to Ashley. "Um do you want to walk with me so we aren't standing in such a crowded corridor?" I asked Ashley as we were just standing there and kept scooting over to get out of people's ways. As I stood there waiting for Ashely to say something this boy came up behind me and accidently bumped into me almost knocking me over and he apologized and kept moving along.
