How are you doing? I hope you are having a great day!

Just something about me: my name is Samantha, I'm 11 years old, I'm a proud Ravenclaw and I like to bike, read and sing.

How was your spring break? I had lots of fun! I finally eat hagelslag again, which they don't have here. This time I took 2 boxes with me, I wanted to take 5, but my mom didn't want me to. I still think I should have taken 5 boxes! And except for the food, it was lots of fun to be with my family again and just in the muggle-world. Don't get me wrong I love it here at Hogwarts, but it is just really different than the muggle world. Anyway how was your spring break? I already asked that, well, I geus now you really have to answer it, but not twice!

Hello and Good Morning to you, my quill companions!

Let me start off by thanking Samantha for getting our communication started. I am doing well, thank you. My Spring Break was busy but loads of fun! It's amazing how much you realize you miss home when you're back and know it will only be short lived but I can't imagine also not being at Hogwarts. It too has become home, a second sort of home, and I will be sad to leave it come beginning of Summer. At least it will only be temporary!

I spent Spring Break back in London where I've been born and raised. I got to spend time with my Aunt Maggie, see my old school mates from my muggle school, got some new sheet music for the piano, and went to Church.

Oh, I suppose I should get to a proper introduction. I'm Simon. Simon Kincaid. First Year Hufflepuff. I too like to read and sing, Samantha. I also like to play the piano and guitar. I can ice skate and I played squash for my school back in London.

I'd like to make a proposition to you both. Why don't we finish out this first year at Hogwarts by writing to one another and come Summer Break, we officially meet up? Maybe for ice cream in Diagon Alley? Let me know your thoughts.

Until then too, tell me some of your favorite things about Hogwarts.

Hello Quill Pals!

Yes, thank you, Samantha for getting this all going! This is new for me, you know, talking to strangers about my life, but I guess after a few of these we'll no longer be strangers.

I am Chaleur de Hestia. A first year Gryffindor.

I haven't yet wrote to my parents. I don't know how they would respond to all of this, being non-magical themselves. What would I even say? I don't know even know how to describe half of what I'm seeing. Despite all of this, I'm starting to feel like I belong here. Hogwarts is changing me for the better, I know it.

I'm glad your spring break has gone so well Simon! I spent all of mine studying for our end of year exams. You can never be too prepared, you know?

I also accept your proposition. I would love to meet up during summer break. I'd like to put a face to all these words. Ice cream sounds wonderful, and perhaps some butterbeer. I had the opportunity of tasting some myself, and I found it quite enjoyable!

Everything is wonderful here. I find it hard to pick a favorite, but if we are being honest it's the endless food in the dining hall for me. I've never had so many options in my life.

I was so excited to read your letters! It is great to hear that both of you are doing good. It is so exciting that we are almost second years!

Simon, I really get what you mean when you say Hogwarts is like a second home. I love it here, and I also really like the food! What I also like about Hogwarts is that there are so many people, you are never alone and you can always talk to somebody and older students can help you if you don't know something.

I'm a muggle-born to, Chaleur. My parents have lots of trouble sending owls back to me. I always write about my day, friends and classes to my parents. I would say just write something about your day. I'm sure your parents would love to hear from you!

I would love to meet up in the summer break and eat ice cream (or anything else)! I would have to talk to my parents when I have time, because we are going to the Netherlands in Summer Break, I believe we go for 2 or 3 weeks, so there should be enough time.

Are you guys planning on going to the blossom ball? I don't know if I want to go yet. It could be fun, but I don't know with who I want to go, because I have no idea if any of my friends are going and it would be fun to go with them. I could also go alone and maybe make friends at the ball itself, but maybe it is better to study and make homework. As you can read I have no idea if I want to go or not, what are your ideas on the ball?

Sorry for my very chaotic letter, but there are so many thing I can talk about. I don't want to make the letter to long, because that could be really boring to read.

PS: I realize that you guys might not no what hagelslag is. It is a Dutch thing, you put it on bread with butter, the thing that comes closest to it is chocolate sprinkles. It is really sweet and I really love it!

To My Quill Companions,

The Netherlands? That sounds exciting! I've never been outside England before now and not really much outside London. Hogwarts has been the furthest I've ever been from home.

I'm trying to think of a fun and memorable way to ask my girlfriend to the Blossom Ball. Any ideas? She just became a member of the Gryffindor quidditch team so I was thinking of maybe tying it in with that somehow. Congratulating her and also asking her all at the same time.

Go! Even if you go alone, you could scout me out and say hello. I'd even save a dance! There are loads of nights to work on assignments and to study for exams - have this night. Plus, if you like the food in the Great Hall, I'm sure there will be lots of tasty treats at the dance.

PS: Thanks for elaborating on what hagelslag is, ha. I was afraid to ask... It sounds quite interesting although I'm sure I'd regrettably hate it. I'm not a fan of sweets. I'm not a fan of most food items in general, to be honest.

Can't wait to hear from the both of you again and surely we will find a time to meet up over Summer Break! It'll be nice to get that feeling of Hogwarts back for a bit during our time away.

Well, don't ask me for advice, I don't think I can help with that, I'm sorry, maybe Chaleur knows something. All I can think of is writing a letter and then giving it to her, not the best idea.

You are right, I will go to the ball. It would be fun, we could also see each other instead of writing letters! I don't know what I am going to wear to the ball, my mom wants me to wear a dress, so I think I'll do that. Do you already know what you are going to wear?

YOU ARE NOT A FAN OF SWEETS? Are you crazy? Sweets are amazing! I will force you to at least try hagelslag one time, it is amazing!

To my Quill Companions,

Yea, sweets have never been my thing. Everyone thinks I'm crazy, even my aunt who actually works in one of the top bookstore/bakeries in the area. She's always bringing me home different items that she's made insisting that some day I'll like one of them. No success so far. Maybe we could even do our meetup there instead of for ice cream. Up to you two, ladies.

If you see me at the ball, don't be shy to say hello and again, I'm always up for a dance. I'll be pretty noticeable, I think, as I'm going to be wearing a green suit. I don't suppose that will be too popular but one never can predict trends around this place.

Totally crazy to think that we're almost at Summer vacation. This place has become like a home, you know? It's not just Hogwarts either, it's magic in general. How am I supposed to just leave that all behind for months on end?

Anyway, I just finished my History of Magic essay which means that I've got one more assignment to do until I catch up. I hope you ladies are doing well and please keep in touch. I like having quill companions.

Bookstore/bakeries? Is she working at two places or is the bookstore also a bakery? I would love to do our meetup there. (If Chaleur also wants that of course) Your aunt sounds like a person to my heart, making sure you eat enough sweets. My mom always makes sure I don't eat to much candy, maybe that's also why I like my father more. He lets me eat whatever I want.

I will, if you see me you can also come up to me. I will be wearing a white with blue dress. Yes a dress, I normally don't wear dresses. But my mom wanted it, so I do it for her. If there are more green suited boys, I'll just ask every single one of them if they are you.

I really want it to be summer vacation, because then I get to see my best friends again. My parents are even saying we will go a little bit earlier to the Netherlands so we can surprised them. You should look at it from the positive side, you get to see your family again! But I am going to miss this place, it is indeed magical.

I also like having quill pals, it is a bit funny that I don't really have an idea how you guys are, since we didn't talk in person. But I do really like it, I can just write and get to know other people.

About getting to know each other, what is something that makes you guys special? Maybe you have a secret talent, like maybe you are able to hold your breath really long. I can't hold my breath for really long, I have tried. My sister always wins from me when we are doing a competition of who can hold their breath the longest. Do you guys have any siblings? I have only one older sister, she is 16 now, I think that is really old.

Simon sat down to think about what he would say in response to his quill companions. He was grateful that he had then and after several attempts at trying to find one, he had now found two and it was his hopes that he would hang onto them. Now, he had since met the one because of the Blossom Ball and that went...well, she seemed nice. After all, not everyone would up and agree to being the witness at your twelve year old wedding but Samantha had!

There was a SLIGHT bit of embarrassment to follow that but mostly he could look back and smile on that even if it was recent. He did adore his Haley Rose so it wasn't that far off base. Still, did half the entire school need to bare witness to it and the other half know about it's happening? No, not really. He would probably hear about it for all the years to come.

They had mentioned meeting up for ice cream over the Summer and fit it in before Summer Camp. It was a great idea and Simon wanted to make sure that they met so he wrote them a time and a place.
